During the interview, the FM said, "We want to maintain the status quo and the status quo is that Taiwan is not run by the PRC and we don't want to see a day that authoritarian China or communist China is going to have its jurisdiction over Taiwan."

And as we speak, right now, the Chinese are flying sorties and have their warships conducting exercises not far from Taiwan, and also they are engaging in economic pressure against Taiwan."&nbsp;

In the past few months, increased engagement has been seen between India and Taiwan, including, the signing of a mobility pact, a Taiwanese company involved in establishing semiconductors fab plant in Gujarat. Later this year, Taiwan will open an office, its de facto consulate in India's financial city, Mumbai.

Ahead of Taiwan's National Day on October 10, the Chinese mission in Delhi had written to the Indian media and called upon them to not refer to Taiwan as a "nation".

"The United Nations General Assembly adopted at its 26th session Resolution 2758, recognizing the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing the entire people of China. The Chinese embassy said that "there is no such issue of Taiwan joining the UN", while stating that, "United Nations has reiterated many times that it insists on handling the Taiwan issue in accordance with Resolution 2758."&nbsp;

"Since the outbreak of COVID-19, the DPP authorities have made reckless political manoeuvres and hyped up Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization and the World Health Assembly. Their real intention is to solicit foreign support and seek independence under the pretext of the pandemic," the Chinese embassy alleged while reiterating that "Taiwan's participation in international organizations including the WHO must be arranged under the One-China principle."

"Under the precondition of One-China principle, China's Central Government has made proper arrangement for the Taiwan region's participation in global health affairs, which ensures that the region can deal with local or global public health emergencies in a timely and effective manner. The Taiwan region is never excluded from the WHO global anti-epidemic system. Starting from Jan 3, 2020, China began sending regular updates about the novel coronavirus to WHO and China's Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions," it said.

"The DPP authorities have no locus standi to claim taking part in so-called international investigation to “hold China accountable," the Chinese embassy maintained.

Talking about the confrontation at Fiji Chinese diplomats he said that On October 8th people in our Fiji office was celebrating our national day and Chinese people went overboard and one of our colleagues got injured. This act created a wave of national anger in our country. We strongly condemn the violence against our diplomat in Fiji by China’s diplomats.

"National Day is the most important day for Taiwan, but the Chinese were trying to resort to physical violence to stop us from celebrating, and that is totally unacceptable," Foreign Minister said.

On the question of further threats like Fiji attack by the Chinese officials, he said that Chinese diplomat trying to pressure the host countries not to do something with Taiwan, in case of India Chinese diplomats were issuing orders to the Indian press not to report Taiwan National Day. But we don’t see the similar threats in India we have very good relations with the vibrant democracy India.

On the issue of China's preparation for a possible military invasion of Taiwan, he said that not only China is positioning missiles but also they have increased their land and air military activities and this is an alarming situation. China is not hiding its intention, we are also beefing our military capabilities and garner support from several countries.

China seems to be expanding its force of authoritarianism inside and outside China they are trying to prevent Mongolians to learn their traditional language.

On August 26 China passed a law to sideline teaching in the Mongolian language in the region of Inner Mongolia (also referred to as Southern Mongolia).

Joseph Wu said that whenever there is a domestic problem in China, they would try to find a scapegoat to divert attention and Taiwan is an easy scapegoat and we need to be careful we want to be friends with India.

According to the sources, Beijing is replacing its old DF-11s and DF-15s and deploying its most advanced hypersonic missile DF-17 in China's southeast coastal region.

China in recent years has also increased military drills around Taiwan, with almost 40 Chinese warplanes crossing the median line between the mainland and Taiwan on September 18-19 -- one of several sorties the island's President Tsai Ing-wen called a "threat of force.

China seems to be expanding its force of authoritarianism inside and outside China they are trying to prevent Mongolians to learn their traditional language. On August 26 China passed a law to sideline teaching in the Mongolian language in the region of Inner Mongolia (also referred to as Southern Mongolia). Joseph Wu said that whenever there is a domestic problem in China, they would try to find a scapegoat to divert attention and Taiwan is an easy scapegoat and we need to be careful we want to be friends with India. According to the sources, Beijing is replacing its old DF-11s and DF-15s and deploying its most advanced hypersonic missile DF-17 in China's southeast coastal region. China in recent years has also increased military drills around Taiwan, with almost 40 Chinese warplanes crossing the median line between the mainland and Taiwan on September 18-19 -- one of several sorties the island's President Tsai Ing-wen called a "threat of force. Calling SS Rajamouli's epic 'Baahubali' his personal favourite film, Wu said, "Every time I see 'Baahubali' movie on TV, I tell my wife not to turn the channel, because I want to finish watching it again. I don't know how many times I've watched it. It is so fun to watch an Indian movie." 
 
Wu also said that Aamir Khan's 'Dangal' and late actor Irrfan's 'Hindi Medium ' are also very popular in Taiwan. "There are countless of Indian movies that are being shown here in Taiwan," revealed Wu.

After Taiwan's National Day trended on Indian Twitter a few days back,&nbsp;Joseph Wu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Republic of China (Taiwan) spoke to WION about the growing friendship between the two countries.

Talking about the relationship he said the Taiwan government, since 2016,&nbsp;is looking forward to improving the friendship between the two countries&nbsp;— be it people-to-people relations or trade policies.&nbsp;

In the area of healthcare, agriculture, technical and education exchanges with each other, he has seen "tremendous progress".

He also talked about the increasing Taiwanese investment in India since 2016. "In 2018, we sealed an agreement with India — a bilateral investment — and that is very important for the bilateral economic relations. And we have seen, Taiwan's investment in India has been increasing."

"The total amount of Taiwanese investment in India now stands around USD2.3 billion and our investment in India has employed roughly 65,000 Indian people; these are good quality jobs and we will continue to do that," he continued.

Talking about how can the relationship between the two countries be further improved, he said, "If the Indian government is interested in improving the economic and trade relations with Taiwan even further, an FTA or similar to FTA type of arrangement between Taiwan and India will certainly improve our economic relations", hinting towards the world's economic distancing from China.

He also added that many of the Taiwanese investors are now shifting from China to India.

Specifically talking about the increasing semi-conductors industry in Taiwan, he said India is one of the most preferred locations for Taiwan's manufacturers of semi-conductors, "I think there is a natural philosophy that they will go to the places which are the most friendly to them. So, for Taiwan's high-tech industries, to make an investment in the United States or South East Asia or in India as long as they feel that these (countries) are friends and that they can make their investment in a friendly environment, they will go to (those countries). ANd to me, India is a very friendly place where we have the same philosophy and we have the same values."

He also assured that the Taiwanese government will encourage and provide help to the local manufacturers who would want to invest in India. "The government will try to help them to make sure that they can make a profit in India, by speaking with the Indian government about the investment cases."

He also alluded to the recent crackdown in Hong Kong within the ambit of the newly formulated laws that seek to police dissent, and the case of Mongolia, where students are being prohibited from learning in their own language.

Calling China’s recent display of military might a “scapegoat”, Wu shed light on why he thinks the communist country is engaging all its enemies at once.

“There is a traditional wisdom about authoritarianism. Whenever they have domestic difficulty, they will try to find a scapegoat outside their country to create crisis to divert domestic attention. And Taiwan may be a very convenient scapegoat for the Chinese government”, he said.

Joseph Wu shed light on the need for Taiwan to build more friendships and gather trust in the international community to effectively counter Chinese aggression. “We need to be very careful. We need to build more friendship with other countries, and India is a country we want to be friends with,” Wu said. &nbsp;

Wu also spoke extensively about problems that Jinping is facing from within. “The first is the trade war between the United States and China, and it’s causing the Chinese economy to slow down… And the second is the pandemic…&nbsp;It’s about the origin of COVID-19, and COVID-19 is causing economic slowdown internationally. China relied on trade with other countries, and it’s causing Chinese economic slowdown also.”

He also spoke about the recent flooding that hit China. “In the last couple of months, there was very serious flooding in the central part moving to the northern part in China.”

On the Chinese leadership and the issues within, this is what Wu had to say:&nbsp;“So a general economic slowdown for an authoritarian country is going to deprive top leadership from legitimacy that the government is able to improve the livelihood of the people”

“It doesn’t seem to me that the leadership is able to control everything. There are other factions and other leaders that may be willing to challenge top leadership.”

On China’s claims of defeating the virus, and normalisation of life, he said - “The Chinese economy might be picking back up from the lowest point when the pandemic is [sic] hitting China very hard… The current growth might not be enough to cover what they have already lost”.
