A woman was allegedly strangled to death and then her body chopped into 40 to 50 pieces by a 25-year-old man, who was her live-in partner and a butcher by profession.&nbsp;

The body parts were found in a forested area in the Khunti district of the Indian state of Jharkhand, said the police on Wednesday (Nov&nbsp;27).

The accused was identified as Naresh Bhengra and was arrested by the police. The incident came to light nearly a fortnight after the killing when human body parts were found with a stray dog near Jordag village in Jariagarh police station on November 24.

The 24-year-old woman was in a live-in relationship with Bhengra for the past couple of years&nbsp;in Tamil Nadu. During this period, the man had gone to Jharkhand once and married another woman without informing his partner.

"The brutal incident occurred on November 8 when they reached Khunti as the accused who had married another woman did not wish to take her home. Instead, he took her to a forest near his house at Jordag village in Jariagarh police station and chopped the body into pieces. The man has been arrested," said Khunti Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar, while speaking to PTI.

According to Inspector Ashok Singh, who has been investigating the case, the man used to work in a butcher shop in Tamil Nadu and was very good at slicing chicken.

"He admitted chopping the body parts of the woman into 40 to 50 pieces before leaving those in the forest for wild animals to feast on. The police recovered several parts on November 24 after a dog in the area was seen with a hand," said Singh, while speaking to PTI.

He added that the woman was pressurising the accused to take her back to Khunti with him. When they reached Ranchi, the two got off a train on November 24 and headed to the village of the man.

"Under a plan, the man took her to Khunti in an autorickshaw near his home and asked her to wait. He returned with sharp weapons and strangled her with her dupatta after raping her. He then cut the body into 40 to 50 pieces and left for his home to live with his wife," said Singh.

Hemant Soren is going to become the first leader in Jharkhand to take the oath as chief minister for the fourth time. His first stint as CM in a Congress-RJD-supported government started when he took oath as chief minister on July 13, 2013, lasting until December 23, 2014.

His next stint started when he took oath as CM on December 29, 2019, following a decisive victory in the 2019 state elections.

His third term began after he came out of jail on July 4, 2024. He resigned after he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31, 2024.

Before Soren, only his father, Shibu Soren, and BJP's Arjun Munda had served as chief minister three times each.

The India bloc secured a decisive victory in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, winning 56 seats—the JMM with 34, the Congress with 16, the RJD with four, and the CPI-ML-L with two.

This marks the first time in Jharkhand's history that a government will be formed with a two-thirds majority.

Several exit polls on Wednesday gave a clear edge to the BJP-led alliances in Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly polls while some put the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition ahead in the western state.

Axis MyIndia was the only one to predict victory for the Congress-JMM alliance in Jharkhand with 53 seats out of 81 as against only 25 for BJP-led NDA and three seats for others.

Exit polls were out soon after the close of polling in Maharashtra and the second phase of voting in Jharkhand, predicting victory of the BJP-led Mahayuti government in Maharashtra and the NDA in Jharkhand.

In the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, 145 is the majority mark, while it is 41 in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly. The BJP-Shiv-Sena-NCP alliance is in power in Maharashtra while JMM-Congress is ruling in Jharkhand.

Counting of votes would take place on November 23 for the single-phase Maharashtra election held on Wednesday and the two-phased voting in Jharkhand on November 13 and 20.

While the Matrize exit poll conducted in a tie-up with several news organisations predicted 150-170 seats for the BJP and allies in Maharashtra with a 48 per cent vote share, it gave the Congress and other allies only 110-130 seats with a vote share of 42 per cent. The poll gave others 8 to 10 seats, with a vote share of 10 per cent.

In Jharkhand, the Matrize Exit poll predicted 42-47 seats for NDA and 25-30 seats for the INDIA bloc and gave 0-4 seats to others.

The exit poll conducted by People's Pulse gave NDA's Mahayuti a whopping 175-195 seats while giving only 85-112 seats to MVA and 7-12 to others in Maharashtra.

In Jharkhand, People's Pulse predicted 44-53 seats for NDA and 25-37 seats for INDIA Bloc while giving 5-9 seats to others.

Axis MyIndia has predicted a 45 per cent vote share for the INDIA bloc and 37 per cent for the NDA.

Another exit poll by P-MARQ in Maharashtra gave the NDA a total of 137-157 seats and INDIA Bloc's MVA 126-146 seats while giving 2-8 seats to others.

On the other hand, the poll conducted by Electoral Edge predicted MVA to win 150 seats while giving 121 seats to BJP-led Mahayuti and 20 seats to others in Maharashtra.

Exit polls by Poll Diary predicted the NDA to win in 122-186 seats and the MVA 69-121 while forecasting 12-29 seats for others in Maharashtra. Chanakya Strategies, another pollster, predicted 152-160 seats for Mahayuti and 130-138 seats for MVA while giving 6-8 seats for others in Maharashtra.

Lokshahi Rudra has predicted a close fight between Mahayuti and MVA in Maharashtra and gave them 128-142 seats and 125-140 respectively. It gave others 18-23 seats.

The exit poll by Lokpoll gave Mahayuti 115-128 seats, with 37-40 per cent vote share, and predicted victory for MVA in 151-162 seats, giving them 43-46 per cent vote share. It gave others 5-14 seats with a vote share of 16-19 per cent.

Some exit polls have also predicted the BJP's victory in 5-7 seats out of bypolls held in nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh.

A survey conducted by Delhi University's Centre for Global Studies (CGS) has predicted electoral victories for the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra and the NDA in Jharkhand.

"No eligible voter should be prevented from voting. Any kind of biased attitude during voting will not be tolerated. On receiving a complaint, there will be an immediate investigation. If anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken," the ECI said in a statement.

This comes after Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav accused police officers of unlawfully checking voter cards and Aadhaar IDs, further urging the poll body to take action based on complaints on its official social media accounts about some communities being prevented from voting.

The union minister also reiterated that the BJP will deport all Bangladeshi infiltrators from the state after the formation of the government.

"We can't go into the details of the seat-sharing right now. Our alliance partner is not here right now. When they are here, we will finalise the number of seats and other details," he added.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The seat-sharing talks are underway with other alliance partners, including&nbsp;Rashtriya Janata Dal&nbsp;(RJD) and Left parties, for the remaining 11 segments.&nbsp;

The JMM however, is expected to increase its share because it believes that Hemant Soren is a key face in Jharkhand and the grand alliance will get votes on his name, the party said.

Jharkhand minister and Congress leader Banna Gupta said that the INDIA alliance is doing its work smoothly and people will vote to continue the ruling coalition government in the state.

"Our in charge, (state) president, CLP leader together sat down with INDIA Alliance team. Everything has become very systematic. There is no 'if or but' anywhere. INDIA Alliance is doing its work smoothly. We say this very confidently that the people of Jharkhand will give a chance once again to the INDIA Alliance government led by Hemant Soren," Gupta&nbsp;said.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) expressed discontent over the seat sharing with its INDIA bloc allies Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for the Jharkhand assembly elections.&nbsp;

“We have come before you for a special reason. You can see that our entire leadership is here at the request of our leader of opposition Tejashwi ji. We had a meeting this morning and it was decided in that meeting that the strength of votes and the mass base is in favor of RJD,” party MP Manoj Jha said as per&nbsp;news agency ANI.&nbsp;

Former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren on Wednesday (August 21) fuelled speculation that he might float a new political party in the run-up to the state's assembly elections.

Shah further claimed that thousands of illegal immigrants are entering the state and marrying local tribal women, which would end up reducing the tribal population in the state.

“If anywhere in the country the population of tribals is reducing, it is only in Jharkhand. If the people of Jharkhand vote the Bharatiya Janata Party to power, a white paper will be brought in to secure their land, population, and reservation. The manner in which illegal immigrants are entering the state is directly affecting the employment of the youth,” the home minister said.

He added that outsiders were usurping local jobs.
