Omar Abdullah visits Budhal

The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah yesterday visited Budhal village to meet the families of the 17 individuals who tragically lost their lives in what the government has been calling mysterious deaths. Abdullah expressed profound grief and assured the bereaved families of full support and assistance from his government.
Omar Abdullah stressed that the government’s priority is to ensure the prevention of such incidents in future and an immediate end to the spate of unfortunate deaths. He assured the public that a detailed investigation was underway to determine the cause of the tragedy.
“The civil administration and health department are actively addressing the matter, while the police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. Additionally, a central team has been deputed and is working diligently to uncover the reasons behind this unfortunate loss of life,” Omar Abdullah said.
The Jammu and Kashmir government consulted with many experts to understand what led to the deaths. Following extensive microbiological studies, they noted that no viral, bacterial or microbial infection had caused the deaths. These were found to be localised and possibly have some epidemiological linkage.
Certain neurotoxins were found in the samples of the deceased persons which will be further investigated.
It is pertinent to mention here that from December 7, 2024, about 17 of 38 affected persons have died in Budhal.
The tests were conducted on different samples in some of the most reputed labs in the country. These include the National Institute of Virology Pune, the National Centre for Disease Control New Delhi, the National Institute of Toxicology and Research Lucknow, Defence Research Development Establishment Gwalior, the Microbiology Department of PGIMER Chandigarh and the ICMR-Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory, GMC Jammu.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the anniversary of the 2016 surgical strike on terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Saturday (Sep 28). Recalling the event, he said that when the BJP government responded to the attacks with heavy fire, those on the other side "came to their senses." "Remember that time when bullets were fired from that side and the Congress used to wave white flags. When the BJP government responded to the bullets with shells, the people on that side came to their senses," PM Modi said. The leaders of terrorism know that if they do anything foolish, Modi will find them even in the depths of the underworld)..." the Indian PM said while addressing a public meeting in Jammu. On the night of September 28, 2016, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This was in retaliation for the deadly attack by terrorists based in Pakistan on an Indian army base in Uri, Kashmir, on September 18, which resulted in the deaths of 19 soldiers. They used to say that 'One Rank One Pension', OROP will put pressure on the treasury but Modi has never looked at the treasury before the welfare of army families and hence, after forming the government in 2014, we implemented OROP." Five Houses belonging to the Kashmiri Pandit Community in South Kashmir's Anantnag district were completely gutted in a fire incident. The fire broke during the night hours in the Mattan area of Anantnag, destroying the old houses of the Kashmiri Pandit community. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case and started investigating the cause of the fire.

The members of the Kashmiri Pandit community living outside Kashmir allege that the fire was caused to threaten the Kashmiri Pandit Community and dissuade them from coming back to the Valley.

The National Conference Party leaders said that they stand united with Kashmiri Pandit brethren in Mattan, Anantnag, following the tragic fire that destroyed several houses. They also said that one of the affected houses holds deep sentimental value as it was the maternal home of our Additional Spokesperson, Umesh Talashi. They further added that this loss of property is deeply emotional and significant, and they call on the authorities to conduct a swift and thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.

''The recent fire incident of Kashmiri Migrant Properties in Mattan area of Kashmir, raises an eyebrow. The Deputy commissioner of the district is the custodian of the minority properties and is not taking the proper steps to preserve the minority properties and four houses have been gutted of Kashmiri Pandit Migrants. We request the government to take steps for the protection of these sites. No one was living there so there was no possibility of short circuit or gas cylinder blast, etc. It is a clear case of sabotage, and we need to take preventive measures. The administration should gear up so that the exiled community does not see such acts again and these owners should be compensated. And we hope all properties should be protected,'' said Ravindra Pandita, President, Kashmir Shardapeeth Asthapan.

Multiple Kashmiri Pandit community members warned the government that terrorism is still not finished in the Kashmir Valley, but added that these incidents will also not intimidate them. They said that they would continue to live in their homeland alongside the Muslim brothers.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have started an investigation into the case. The FSL teams have taken the samples, and an FIR has been registered under section 326. The police have also taken CCTV footage of the area for investigation.

''A fire incident at a Kashmiri Pandit's house in Mattan Area of Anantnag, which belongs to Shri Anand Ji Razdan, was reported. The moment we received the report, the SHO Mattan along with the Police Party reached the spot and the fire brigade was brought in. In around one and half hours, the fire was doused. The adjacent houses were also damaged due to the fire. Police brought the FSL teams and also took the CCTV footage of the area. A case has been registered under section 326. Kulgam encounter: Two Indian soldier killed, six terrorists eliminated, says police

After Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term, The Pakistan establishment seems to have changed the policy yet again. There has been a rise in terror activities as well as infiltration bids on the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces have found that terror outfits are now choosing the age-old traditional infiltration routes to enter the Union Territory.

Indian Army, Border Security Forces and Jammu Kashmir Police have a new challenge at hand. At a time when the snow has started melting on the higher reaches of the Line of Control and International Border, the number of Infiltration bids has increased as well.

But what has changed this time is that terror groups are using the old traditional infiltration routes. The Pir Panjal hills in south Kashmir and Shamsawari hills in north Kashmir, close to the Line of Control have once again been used by the terrorists to infiltrate as they are covered with dense forests and have dozens of natural caves.

"This is an obvious reality, there is no doubt that there (in Pakistan) there are camps, there are factories of terrorism, there are such organisations operating there and their business is running on bloodshed here if they are not able to do so then their money stops. It is a challenge and we have seen it before and the answer to your question is whether they have started new routes which were closed earlier and have been opened again, the answer is "yes", are they trying to activate it, the answer is "yes", the reason is we all know." said R R Swain, DGP, Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Jammu and Kashmir Police's DGP RR Swain recently said that 70-80 foreign terrorists are active in Jammu and Kashmir and the focus of terrorism has shifted from local to foreign terrorists.

The increasing number of foreign terrorists is a challenge for the security forces as they are trained in Pakistan terror camps before being sent to Jammu and Kashmir.

In recent times, forces have also noticed that these terrorists are carrying out attacks in the Jammu region but most of these foreign terrorists are said to be hiding in the same belt.

''It is a fact now that the Kashmiri youth are not joining the terror ranks. The figure has come down to its lowest in decades. According to the data, the last lowest figure of our youth's involvement in terrorism was in 2013, but this time it is even less than that." said R R Swain.

Meanwhile, security forces continue to increase the deployment of troops for a strong counter-infiltration grid.

India strongly denounced the "unwarranted references" to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir made in a joint statement by China and Pakistan stating that both J&K and Ladakh "will remain integral and inalienable parts" of the country.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a statement firmly made it clear that no country possessed the authority to comment on the status of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have noted unwarranted references to the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir in the joint statement between China and Pakistan of 07 June 2024. We categorically reject such references. Our position on the issue is consistent and well-known to the concerned parties. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh have been, are and will always remain integral and inalienable parts of India. No other country has the locus standi to comment on the same," MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in response to media queries on references to Jammu and Kashmir in the China-Pakistan Joint Statement.

MEA's remarks came following a meeting between Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping in China where both the leaders also discussed the so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which passes through India's sovereign territory in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

"The same joint statement also mentions activities and projects under the so-called China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), some of which are in India's sovereign territory under forcible and illegal occupation by Pakistan. We resolutely oppose and reject any moves by other countries to reinforce or legitimise Pakistan's illegal occupation of these territories, impinging on India's sovereignty and territorial integrity," Jaiswal's statement adds.

The joint statement was issued after Sharif concluded his four-day visit to China where Pakistan briefed the Chinese side on the latest developments of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Both sides underscore the importance of maintaining peace and stability in South Asia, the need for resolution of all outstanding disputes, and their opposition to any unilateral action," the joint statement read.
