The 94-page document, titled “The essence of childhood has been destroyed,” asserts that these actions constitute genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.

Fresh tensions are emerging around Iran's nuclear program after Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf described the recent peace agreement as "America's defeat." At the same time, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed plans to visit Iranian enrichment facilities, putting nuclear inspections back in the spotlight. As diplomatic efforts continue, disagreements over oversight, compliance and regional security are once again testing relations between Tehran and the West.

US President Donald Trump, at the G7 summit, said that Israel would not exist without the US. He said that he had a strong relationship with Netanyahu but warned him to show more restraint. On the same day, addressing Israeli Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said, "Without Israel, without the Jewish foundation, there would not be America.” He continued that they owed their very existence to what happened in that land. These are contrarian viewpoints held by top US officials in the same administration, so which one is true?
Would the US not exist without Israel, or would Israel not exist without the US?

The US empire and the Israeli occupation are in a co-constitutive or symbiotic relationship. Israel is a settler colonial state established with the fall of the British Empire and the rise of the US Empire. They are structurally codependent parts of a single global imperial system. Israel acts as a US proxy in the most vital, volatile and resource-rich region, which was historically called the Levant. It is the military foothold that maintains US hegemony globally. Without one, the other eventually collapses.By internal logic, a settler colonial state has to have continuous territorial expansion and the subjugation of the indigenous population, which creates a permanent state of warfare, which can be seen since the establishment of Israel as a political entity in 1948. Settler colonialism is imperialism’s forward edge, the tip of its spear. The US and Israel both strategically need each other, even if sometimes rhetorically or even tactically they are opposed; without Israel, the US empire would lose its foothold and most important forward proxy in West Asia. Without the US and its endless stream of military and financial aid, Israel would not exist or could not justify its occupation. Also Read: Can Ukraine isolate Crimea? Attacks on vital supply routes raise pressure on Moscow But there is an inherent contradiction within imperialism. The hegemon needs to stabilise its empire and manage its dominance, whereas the settler colony needs war to fulfil its territorial ambitions and combat its growing fear of dependency. This is why the global resistance unites against both the US and Israel because it knows that localised resistance is toothless; it seeks globalisation of the resistance, which seeks to fight the global capitalist and imperialist apparatus. This is the reason why both the US and Israel jointly target Iran, because it has managed to globalise the resistance and emerged as a blueprint of how to resist against an imperial-settler coalition. In the eschatological view, the US ambassador was implying the Christian Zionist narrative that the US as a nation or the majority of Western nations owes their spiritual and physical survival to Biblical Israel. They imply the Abrahamic covenant, that those who bless Israel will be blessed, while those who oppose Israel will be cursed. While the traditional Christian narrative does not exactly follow the same stream, they consider that the Christian Church succeeded or fulfilled the promises made to biblical Israel through Jesus Christ. But traditional Jewish people do not consider Jesus Christ as sacred or a prophet. Hence, there exists a perpetual conflict of interest within the elites of the US empire.

The US-Iran war and the remarks by Donald Trump and US Ambassador Mike Huckabee on Israel's significance to America have drawn attention to the deep political, military and religious ties between the two countries.

The first round of Iran-US talks in Switzerland has ended with signs of progress, according to U.S. Vice President JD Vance. He said discussions covered nuclear inspections, regional security and efforts to maintain stability in key flashpoints across the Middle East. Vance suggested nuclear inspectors could visit Iran as early as this week, while technical teams remain engaged in follow-up negotiations. Although major differences remain, both sides appear willing to keep diplomatic channels open and continue talks in the coming days and weeks.

Fresh Iran-US negotiations in Switzerland have reignited debate over whether the proposed agreement serves American interests or hands Tehran a strategic victory. While both sides have reported progress after the first round of talks, critics of President Donald Trump argue that the deal could ease pressure on Iran without securing enough concessions in return.

Iran's central military command announced on Saturday that it had once again closed the vital Strait of Hormuz over Israel's attacks on southern Lebanon, describing them as a breach of Tehran's agreement with the US. "It is hereby announced that the Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessel traffic; It is noted that this first step is a response to the enemy's breach of promise, and if the aggression continues, further steps will be planned and taken to force the enemy to comply with its obligations," said the Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters in a statement carried by state TV.

The recent US-Iran agreement is causing concern and angst in Israel, which knows that Iran is evidently the most serious threat to it. Israel’s leaders and security experts fear that the final deal carved on the basis of this agreement may strengthen Iran while failing to address the threats that Tehran poses and hence regard it as a setback to their national security interests.Israel also fears that the agreement grants Iran significant diplomatic and economic gains without fully eliminating the threats it poses. The agreement leaves the difficult issues for later discussions while several elements remain vague. Many Israelis see the deal negotiated by the US with Iran as a betrayal, surrender and humiliation. Also Read: ‘Iran had agreed not to develop nuclear weapons under 2015 deal,’ says Obama, adds US ‘worse off’ after war
Lifting of sanctions, oil trade, and release of frozen funds
Israeli policymakers fear that sanctions relief specified in the agreement will improve Iran’s economic condition and provide additional resources that it would use to strengthen its arsenal and further arm its proxy networks. No mention of Iran’s ballistic missiles Another major concern relates to Iran’s ballistic missile programme which doesn’t find a mention in the MoU at all. Since the emerging framework focuses primarily on nuclear issues, it is paying less attention to Iran’s growing missile and drone capabilities. The neglect becomes noteworthy as Iran’s missiles and drones caused most damage to US military assets in allied Gulf nations. Also Read: ‘India not merely preparing for future, it is actively shaping it,’ PM Modi tells diaspora in Paris Israelis consider these missiles a direct threat because they can potentially reach Israeli territory and carry conventional or non-conventional warheads. Israeli officials argue that a deal that ignores missile development addresses only part of the problem and leaves a significant security challenge unresolved. Threat of Iran’s proxy armed groups Another major issue is of Iran’s proxy groups in the region and this remains unaddressed in the MoU. Iran’s proxy armed groups like the Hezbollah in Lebanon, Houthis in Yemen and Hamas in Palestine have been and will remain a threat to Israel and that too in its geographic vicinity. Israel views Iran’s proxy armed groups and political allies across the Middle East as hostile. Also Read: Spanish MEP Irene Montero slams EU for inaction, takes ‘Happy Birthday, Mr Genocide’ jab at Trump The Lebanon dimension is perhaps the most politically sensitive aspect of the MoU, which reportedly calls for an end to hostilities “on all fronts, including Lebanon.” Israel worries that the ceasefire could restrict its military freedom of action against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah remains one of the most immediate threats to Israeli security and the constraints imposed in MoU could prevent pre-emptive or retaliatory operations. Did Nov midterms make Trump ‘desperate’ for deal? One strong argument in circulation is that President Donald Trump’s eagerness for a deal with Iran was due to the domestic political realities in the US, particularly the November 2026 midterm elections. Iran’s deliberate closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted global energy supplies, pushed up oil prices, and raised concerns about inflation in the US ahead of the crucial midterm elections. Rising fuel and consumer prices threatened to undermine Trump’s promise of keeping costs under control and protecting the economy. A prolonged conflict would have made economic issues even more prominent for voters and hurt Republican candidates in the midterms. The MoU gave a politically attractive exit from an unpopular war, and the Trump administration can present the deal as its success that reopened critical shipping routes and prevented a wider regional conflict. Also Read: Former PM’s son, an ex-Rajya Sabha MP, duped of Rs 7.80 crore in cyber fraud Besides, there is a perception that the US may be prioritising diplomatic engagement with Tehran over Israeli preferences. Israel’s anxiety primarily arises from a belief that the MoU offers Iran significant diplomatic and economic advantages while leaving key security questions unresolved. In conclusion, Israel’s concerns about the US–Iran deal stem from a combination of security, strategic, and political factors. Israeli leaders worry that the agreement may leave Iran with nuclear potential, ignore missile threats, and enable it to strengthen its proxy networks. Whether those fears prove justified will depend on what course the negotiations take in the 60-day timeline that has already started. The broad framework must be translated into a detailed and enforceable agreement.

The memorandum of understanding focuses primarily on the nuclear issue and pays less attention to Iran’s growing missile and drone capabilities. The neglect becomes noteworthy as Iran’s missiles and drones caused most damage to US military assets in allied Gulf nations.

Israeli settlers could be added to the UN's 'list of shame'
The dispute centres on a series of UN reports examining the impact of the conflict in Gaza and the wider Israeli-Palestinian crisis on children. This week, Frazier presented a report warning that Israeli settler groups could face inclusion in the so-called list of shame annexes for alleged violations, if violations against Palestinian children continue at current levels. The report cited a sharp rise in incidents involving children in the occupied Palestinian territories.According to the UN's annual Children and Armed Conflict report, 38,558 grave violations against children were documented worldwide in 2025, affecting more than 24,000 children. The organisation described it as the highest number recorded since monitoring began in 1996.
Could Israeli settler groups be blacklisted?
The report attributed 9,465 grave violations to Israeli forces and 326 to Israeli settlers. It also listed Hamas among groups responsible for abuses. At the time, Guterres said he was "deeply alarmed" by what he called a "staggering" increase in violations affecting Palestinian children and warned that settler groups could be formally blacklisted if similar patterns continue next year.Israel has strongly rejected the findings. After the release of a separate UN report last month, Israeli officials accused the organisation of institutional bias and announced plans to cut ties with Guterres' office for the remainder of his term.

Tempers flared at the United Nations after Israeli envoy Danny Danon interrupted a meeting to attack UN officials over reports on Palestinian children in conflict zones. The exchange escalated into a shouting match as officials defended findings they said were based on verified evidence.
