Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Friday (September 22), told the United Nations that his country was on the "cusp" of normalising ties with Saudi Arabia.

He further said that Palestinians should not get to "veto" the move.

While addressing the General Assembly in New York, Netanyahu said that the agreements which were made in the year 2020, to forge formal ties with three other Arab states had already "heralded the dawn of a new age of peace."

"But I believe that we are at the cusp of an even more dramatic breakthrough -- a historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia."

"Such a peace will go a long way to ending the Arab-Israeli conflict. It will encourage other Arab states to normalise their relations with Israel," he said.

Netanyahu strongly rebuffed the assertion by Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, during his UN speech on Thursday, that peace could not be established between the Middle East and Israel without a Palestinian state.

Netanyahu said that Palestinians should not be given a veto over new peace treaties with Arab states.

"We must not give the Palestinians a veto over new peace treaties with Arab states," Netanyahu said.

"The Palestinians could greatly benefit from a broader peace. They should be part of that process. But they should not have a veto over the process."

"It was misread as a credible nuclear threat. The prime minister stands by the original text of the speech," the prime minister's office said.

The two leaders held talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York after Biden withheld an invitation to the White House.

Netanyahu further appreciated Biden for his commitment towards preventing Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability.

Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) said the kingdom will obtain a nuclear weapon if its rival Iran does so first, in a wide-ranging interview with Fox News on Wednesday (September 20), wherein he touched upon the normalisation of ties with Israel as well.&nbsp;

"If they (Iran) get&nbsp;one (nuclear weapon), we have to get one," MBS could be heard saying in one of the video&nbsp;clips of the interview.&nbsp;

Speaking about the threats associated, MBS said the kingdom is&nbsp;“concerned” whenever any country acquires a nuclear weapon. However, he suggests that no one would use a nuclear weapon because this would mean starting a “war with the rest of the world”.

"Any country use a nuclear weapon that means they are having a war with the rest of the world. The world cannot see another Hiroshima. If the world sees 100,000 people dead that mean you are in a war with the rest of the world," said MBS.&nbsp;

Ever since former US president Donald Trump reneged on the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the Joe Biden administration refused to get back to it, Tehran has sped up its nuclear advances - threatening the stability of the region.&nbsp;

Notably, it was in 2016 that Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest oil exporter, announced its plan to build 16 nuclear reactors over the next two decades with a budget of $80 billion.&nbsp;

Two years later, the kingdom approved its national atomic energy policy which limits the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.&nbsp;

However, some experts believe that Riyadh is trying to hedge its bets as arch-rival Iran continues to make waves with its nuclear weapons programme.&nbsp;

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud last year made statements, echoing the crown prince's version,&nbsp;saying the kingdom will take steps to shore up its security if Tehran gets an 'operational nuclear weapon'.

"If Iran gets an operational nuclear weapon, all bets are off. We are in a very dangerous space in the region...you can expect that regional states will certainly look towards how they can ensure their own security."

The surprise Israel-UAE deal last week is only the third such accord Israel has struck with an Arab country, after Egypt and Jordan, and raises the prospect of similar accords with other pro-Western Gulf states.

Until now, Saudi Arabia, the Arab world's biggest economy, has maintained a conspicuous silence over the deal, but local officials have hinted that Riyadh is unlikely to immediately follow in the footsteps of its principal regional ally despite US pressure.

At a news conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas, Prince Faisal reiterated criticism of Israel's "unilateral policies" of annexation and building settlements in the West Bank as "illegitimate" and "detrimental" to a two-state solution.

As part of the landmark deal, Israel agreed to suspend the annexation of occupied West Bank territories, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the plan was not off the table in the long run.

Palestinians protested the deal as a betrayal by a major player in the Arab world, which has broadly held that normal ties with Israel are only possible once the dispute with the Palestinians is resolved.

The surprise Israel-UAE deal last week is only the third such accord Israel has struck with an Arab country, after Egypt and Jordan, and raises the prospect of similar accords with other pro-Western Gulf states. Until now, Saudi Arabia, the Arab world's biggest economy, has maintained a conspicuous silence over the deal, but local officials have hinted that Riyadh is unlikely to immediately follow in the footsteps of its principal regional ally despite US pressure. At a news conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas, Prince Faisal reiterated criticism of Israel's "unilateral policies" of annexation and building settlements in the West Bank as "illegitimate" and "detrimental" to a two-state solution. As part of the landmark deal, Israel agreed to suspend the annexation of occupied West Bank territories, although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the plan was not off the table in the long run. Palestinians protested the deal as a betrayal by a major player in the Arab world, which has broadly held that normal ties with Israel are only possible once the dispute with the Palestinians is resolved. The deal was received with mixed reactions in the Arab world as Iran dismissed it as a “huge mistake” by the UAE, calling it a "treacherous act" while President Erdogan said that his government was contemplating withdrawing its ambassador and suspending diplomatic ties with UAE over the peace deal.

Palestinians too denounced the move as Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said UAE's move as an “election favour” for both Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu.

However, Egypt and Jordan welcomed the move even as Oman and Bahrain praised the accord. Saudi Arabia, however, hasn't officially reacted to the move.&nbsp;

"Dubai has the largest free trade zones in the world," PM Netanyahu said, adding,"Now these goods will -- under the peace agreement –- reach the State of Israel and lower the prices of products."
