<p>As for the film, Indian filmmaker Anand Gandhi, while talking of Irrfan recently spoke about the possibility of working with him for a film based on a pandemic.</p>

<p>Anand had met with Irrfan Khan around the release of ‘Maqbool’. They drove to Pune once and became friends over the years. They had explored the possibility of him starring in ‘Tumbbad’ and it was before the final script and schedule changes were made. ‘Tumbbad’ was loved by critics.</p>

<p>He revealed that Irrfan Khan could also have starred in the pandemic film ‘Emergence’, something that he had been working on for years. It’s been close to five years that Anand has been developing the script.</p>

<p>‘Emergence’ is about the story of five women scientists fighting the contagion and are superheroes in their own way. It would take the parasite-host relationship further. The script eerily represents the current scenario of the world. Tentatively titled 2020 at the time, he said that it had all the elements of storage crisis for scientific data, rightwing politics, among other things.</p>

<p>His idea is to make the film the most researched one on the pandemic. The filmmaker plans to take the film on the floor by next year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Anand is collaborating with an American studio for the film and it will be a big-budget project.</p>

<p>One lesser-known facet of&nbsp;Irrfan Khan was that he was a passionate cricketer and a true lover of the game. At one point in his life, he wanted to pursue cricket, but couldn't due to financial problems. &nbsp;</p>

<p>It was cricket which gave me a few opportunities where&nbsp;I got to meet and play with Irrfan, albeit they were only net sessions. It was during the practice sessions for the 2011-12 season of the Celebrity Cricket League at the Air India Cricket Grounds. We were part of the "Mumbai Heroes" team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>I remember he had a nice pull shot.</p>

<p>I'm obsessed with statistics. Like Sachin Tendulkar played 200 test matches and scored 15, 921 runs with a career average of 53.8 while Don Bradman played 52 test matches to score 6991 runs with a career average of 99.4!&nbsp;</p>

<p>Irrfan, during his&nbsp;career as an actor, had an unparalleled run in the films. His acting brilliance, his level of achievement, the mastery of the cinematic art, the universal awe it inspired, and the scale of success he garnered can only be compared to that of the great Sir Don Bradman.</p>

<p>Irrfan broke patterns, norms, conventions, rules in the most astonishing manner. Even though right from the times of Shashi Kapoor, Roshan Seth, Saeed Jaffrey, Om puri, and others, we have had actors from India excelling in the international film arena. But, what Khan achieved in the Indian and international film space in these years is unfathomable and stunning at the same time. Be it his role in 'The Warrior' or the critically acclaimed 'Namesake', Irrfan left his mark, and more importantly, managed to keep his head on his shoulders and his feet on the ground.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An alumnus of the prestigious National School of Drama, he had the best training and teachers such as Naseeruddin Shah. But he had told me during a cricket net practice, actors too need to read books and watch plays,&nbsp;hone their skills and nourish the mind with influences of various kinds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Like most of us, his early years of struggle in Bombay were not easy. Even today, every time I feel low, it's always these words by Irrfan that come to my rescue. He had told to me with his characteristic smile, "when your time comes, and if you are ready, magic can happen".</p>

<p>The realisation that Irrfan, that special genius, that irreplaceable gem, will never create another body of work hurts. Knowing I will never see another new film of his is a gigantic tragedy. It rankles and haunts that the magician will never put up another new show again.&nbsp;</p>

<p>But like in all my favourite films, you&nbsp;honour its feelings and accept the truth that life will have to move on.&nbsp;I will move on by watching every single work of his I can get my hands onto. I will watch them again and again.</p>

<p>There will never ever be another you. We will miss you and your presence. You will live on forever in our hearts, in our thoughts, dreams and aspirations. &nbsp;<br />

<p>Senior US diplomat Alice Wells has expressed grief on the untimely demise of Bollywood actors Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan saying the two Bollywood legends stole the hearts of audiences in India and around the world, and that they would be truly missed.</p>

<p>Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor had both been battling with cancer before breathing their last on April 29 and April 30 respectively.</p>

<p>"Very saddened to hear of the passing two Bollywood legends this week, Irrfan Khan @irrfank and Rishi Kapoor @chintskap. Both actors stole the hearts of audiences in America, India, and around the world and will be truly missed," State SCA said in a tweet attributed to US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) Alice Wells.</p>

<p>This has been one of my all-time favourite quotes. But on Wednesday, after spending nearly 14 hours at work, writing about <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/irrfan-khan-7-january-1967-29-april-2020-life-in-pictures-295519">Irrfan Khan</a> and stories related to him, the heart still refuses to move on or bid this silent acting giant a goodbye.</p>

<p>For journalists, writing or reporting death is not new. And we are adept at writing about death without getting too involved emotionally with the stories. That's after all our jobs and we have the ability to move on to the next breaking story. But it's different in this case.</p>

<p>Why does his loss seem so personal? I know I am not the only one who feels like that. I have had friends, colleagues, and even family calling and messaging me throughout the day expressing shock over the news. For every single person, it seems like they have lost someone of their own. I scroll through numerous posts on social media and all I see is people writing about how Irrfan's death has affected them at a personal level even though most of them have never met him. Perhaps that's the sign of a true star. A man who can make every character relatable. That's what Irrfan was. He was a relatable man despite scaling international heights. One of those rare actors who shared screen space with a Tom Hanks and a Bobby Deol.... You see the range?<br />

<p>From being the endearing Bengali professor in 'The Namesake' to the annoying obnoxious Monty in 'Life In A Metro', Irrfan had played characters that you and I knew in person and the actor left a distinct impression in each of them. He was the common man who gave hope to millions. He was the actor who spoke for us, told our stories to the world. Looking at him one felt if he could, so could we. Above all, he was one of the most humble stars around.</p>

<p>I had the opportunity of interviewing him twice. The first time was in 2012, I was still a rookie and very nervous about covering events. It was the Osian film festival at Delhi's Siri Fort auditorium. I was standing outside one of the smaller audis, waiting for Irrfan to come and start the press interaction.</p>

<p>He came, dressed in a white shirt and green pants. I remember the colour clearly. I froze because to enter the audi he would have to cross me. He looked at me, probably sensing my nervousness, gave that famous smile of his, and said 'come inside?' or some such thing. I was so nervous I mumbled something and scurried inside to join the rest of the waiting media. An awkward moment to recall or talk about but I distinctly remember that warm smile. The smile that reached out to nervous rookie reporters, a smile that made the audience love him in each of his roles and the same smile that will remain etched in our hearts forever.</p>

<p>The second time was over a video chat-a format that was still new at that time. The Internet kept disconnecting on his and my side at regular intervals but the man never lost his patience or say that 'let's cancel it'. He sat through the hiccups and smiled as we apologised constantly.</p>

<p>While editing copies on Wednesday, I realised that no matter how much you write about this genius, it's not enough. How to compress three decades of his illustrious career in few paragraphs? How does one put it in writing the way he connected with his audience, or how he made his roles in the most ordinary, underwhelming films memorable. How to write about this powerhouse of talent?<br />
<br />
Over the years, I have to admit that the fascination of movies has worn off a bit. It doesn't seem as magical as it used to be in my days as a student. I honestly feel that most actors are replaceable. Every actor can do the other actors part. But no one can bring what Irrfan did to his characters. No one will ever be able to. I missed him when he took a break in 2018 for cancer treatment and I will continue missing him as long as I watch films. And that's why maybe, it feels personal. Because who will make us believe in dreams, in the magic of showbiz as subtly as Irrfan did?</p>

<p>This has got to be the biggest loss for our generation. And it will remain personal. For all of us.<br />

'Tumko yaad rakhenge guru hum', Mumbai Police bids goodbye to Irrfan Khan

<p>Bollywood actor <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/irrfan-khan-dies-at-the-age-of-53-295471">Irrfan Khan died aged 53</a>&nbsp;today. Best known for his roles in films like ‘Hindi Medium’, ‘Maqbool’, ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ among many others, the actor was admitted into ICU in Mumbai hospital after he was diagnosed with colon infection.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Irrfan’s health had been weak ever since he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018. He got treatment for his cancer in London and had returned to Mumbai in India recently.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As news of his death came out, Bollywood celebs and his co-stars of previous films took to social media to pay a tribute to the actor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “T 3516 - .. just getting news of the passing of Irfaan Khan .. this is a most disturbing and sad news .. 🙏 An incredible talent .. a gracious colleague .. a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema .. left us too soon .. creating a huge vacuum ..Prayers and duas.”</p>

Irrfan had taken a break from acting in 2018 when he was first diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour. He returned to India in 2019 to work in 'Angrezi Medium' which released earlier this year. Irrfan is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar, and two sons Babil and Ayan.
