A restaurant and a jewellery shop belonging to Iranian football legend Ali Daei have been sealed, following a judicial order after he backed the ongoing protests.

According to ISNA news agency, Daei's two shops situated in Tehran's fashionable north end have been immediately shut down.

"Following the cooperation with anti-revolutionary groups in cyberspace to disrupt peace and business of the market, a judicial order was issued to seal Noor Jewellery Gallery," reported the agency.

The order by the Iranian judiciary comes roughly a week after Daei said he had been targetted by threats for backing the protests, triggered by the death of 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini at the hands of Iran's morality police.

"I have received numerous threats against myself and my family in recent months and days from some organisations, medias and unknown individuals," said Daei in an Instagram post.

"I was taught humanity, honour, patriotism and freedom...What do you want to achieve with such threats?" he added.

Rumours had been swirling last month that the Iranian authorities arrested Daei and put him on a death sentence. After the news spread like fire, the Iranian Football Federation released a statement and denied that such an incident had took place.

According to AFP, the prosecutors in the case told the court that Ajamian was killed by a group of people who were paying tribute to a protester Hadis Najafi. Najafi was killed in the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini and during the ceremonies making 40 days of her death, the mourners attacked members of the paramilitary forces and Ajamian ended up losing his life.

While the trial started with 11 people on the stands, four more were added by the police under the accusation of “corruption on earth”. Mizan Online website reported that all 15 defendants were charged in relation to the crimes and were handed out various degrees of punishments.

The protests in Iran were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who was found dead after she was detained by the Iranian morality police for flouting the country’s hijab laws. The post-mortem report revealed trauma injuries to both her head and body pointing towards police torture.

Since the start of the protests, Iranian forces believe that 300 people have been killed including more than 30 members of the security forces. Over 5000 people have also been arrested.

Iran Hijab Protest: Morality police abolished, big win for protesters

Did Iran actually abolish the Morality Police? Iran's Hijab law under review after massive protests

#WIONFineprint | Mahsa Amini's death in the custody of Iran's moral police has triggered a chain reaction. Protesters aren't backing down despite a brutal crackdown and death sentences. The hard-line Islamic regime of Iran could now be considering reviewing its hijab law.

WION Fineprint: Iran's hijab law under review

In the mid of September, a 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini lost her life while in the custody of Iran's morality police. Amini's death enraged many Iranians erupting in widespread protests across the nation. Now months after, the middle-eastern nation has decided to abolish its morality police. But in the meanwhile, Iranian rock climber Elnaz Rekabi's family house and her medals now lie in ruins. So is this a targeted demolition because she herself once defied the Hijab rules or there is more to it? Before making sense of the demolition, which is very eye-catching, one should first know what ensued in the run-up to this.

What did Elnaz Rekabi do?

Elnaz Rekabi, an Iranian rock climber had participated in an international competition with her hair uncovered. At the competition in South Korea, 33-year-old Rekabi, "disobeyed" Iran's mandated dress code. However, she later claimed that her headscarf had fallen off "inadvertently". She apologized for the “worries" she caused on her Instagram account. The statement on her Instagram posted to Rekabi’s 240,000 followers said her head covering “inadvertently faced a problem” after she was unexpectedly called to compete ahead of schedule in the finals of the sport’s Asian Championships in South Korea’s capital, Seoul.

During Asian Championship, Rekabi competed with her hair uncovered. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail. It seemed that she was trying to defy Iran’s mandatory hijab rules. For women in Iran, taking off the hijab is illegal and punishable by law.

Why the video is going viral?

A video where sports medals were seen on the ground and the house in shambles began to go viral. The video shows Elnaz Rekabi's brother Davood, a star athlete, sobbing. Though Iran's Tasnim news agency confirmed that the house did get razed it said that the reason for demolishing the house is that the family did not hold a legal permit for it. It also reportedly said that the demolition started before Elnaz Rekabi participated in Asian Championships in the month of October.

How it all started?

Iran is witnessing widespread protests when Mahsa Amini passed away while being held by the authorities. Mahsa Amini was detained for improperly wearing her hijab. Her relatives said that she was assaulted while being held by the police. Mahsa Amini, 22, was arrested for allegedly breaking the dress code of the nation to being "re-educated" in a facility in Tehran. Her family disputes the claims of the authorities that she was not beaten or otherwise abused. Many of the protesting women have been seen cutting their hair or burning their hijabs on camera. One of the prominent catchphrases used by both men and women during protests is "woman, life, freedom." In Iran, women are expected to cover their arms and legs with loose clothes and their hair with a headscarf, or hijab. The clothing code must be followed by female athletes who are competing while representing Iran.

Iran's atomic energy agency said on Saturday (December 3) the nation has started the construction of a new nuclear plant in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

In a televised remark, Mohammad Eslami, who is the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, announced that the construction has been started.

The announcement regarding the construction of a 300-megawatt Karun power plant in the Darkhovin district of Khuzestan came when the United Nations nuclear chief said that Iran ties are needed to get back on track.

Eslami added that the construction of the plant will take around seven years. He further mentioned that project is expected to cost between $1.5 billion and $2 billion.

He said that the power plant was "first set to be constructed by a French company." However, the company refused and backed out of its "commitments" after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran starts construction of new nuclear power plant in the southwestern province of Khuzestan

Iran’s parliament and the judiciary are in the midst of reviewing the law which mandates women to cover their heads and if it requires any changes, said the attorney general, on Friday. This comes amid months of deadly protests in the country which began back in September.

Meanwhile, the judiciary's Mizan news agency quoted the interior ministry's state security council as saying taht at least 200 people lost their lives in the “riots” which is significantly lower than figures presented by the United Nations and rights groups. This also contradicts a senior Revolutionary Guards commander, Amirali Hajizadeh, who had earlier said that more than 300 people, including security forces, have been killed.

Similarly, an UN-appointed expert on Iran, had said on Tuesday that more than 300 people were killed during the protests, including 40 children. Furthermore, rights group HRANA said that as of Friday, at least 470 protesters have been killed including over 60 minors, while over 18,000 people are believed to be detained by the police.

Meanwhile, attorney general, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, said, “Both the parliament and the judiciary are working (on the issue),” referring to the law which requires women to cover their heads, reported the ISNA news agency.

He added that on Wednesday, the review team met with the parliament’s cultural commission, which will show some results “in a week or two”. However, he did not say what, if any changes will be made to the law.

Hijab was made obligatory for all women in Iran four years after the 1979 revolution which overthrew the United States-backed monarchy in the country. The protests sparked following the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian-Kurdish woman after her arrest by the country’s morality police for her alleged breach of the dress code.

However, the authorities in Iran have blamed the US, Israel, Britain, and Saudi Arabia for the recent demonstrations in the country which the government has labelled as “riots”.

President Ebrahim Raisi, on Saturday, hailed Tehran for having “the most progressive constitution in the world”, quoting an unidentified African lawyer whom he had met some years ago, reported Reuters.

In his speech to the members of the parliament, Raisi said that Iran's constitution guarantees the existence of the Islamic system as well as “fundamental rights and legitimate freedoms.” Notably, Raisi earlier this year had asked, “all state institutions to enforce the headscarf law”.

She was previously imprisoned in Iran and hails from a family line with a history of criticising the country's Islamic rulers. She was detained on Wednesday after coming to the prosecutor's office in response to a summons, according to a tweet from her brother Mahmoud Moradkhani. Then, on Saturday, her brother uploaded a video to YouTube, and the link was shared on Twitter where she condemned the "clear and obvious oppression" Iranians have been subjected to, and criticised the international community's inaction. Tell your governments to stop supporting this murderous and child-killing regime," she said. "This regime is not loyal to any of its religious principles and does not know any law or rule except force and maintaining its power in any way possible." It is unclear when the video had been recorded. She criticised the "laughable" sanctions put in place against the regime due to its crackdown and claimed Iranians had been "left alone" in their struggle for freedom. The sister of Khamenei who had a falling-out with her family in the 1980s and went to Iraq during the height of the conflict with Iran's neighbour is the mother of Moradkhani. She moved in with her husband, Ali Tehrani, a controversial preacher born Ali Moradkhani Arangeh. She gained recognition for her work opposing the death sentence and was most recently detained in January of this year. (With inputs from agencies) WATCH WION LIVE HERE:
