<p>A report by Bloomberg News citing people familiar with the matter, on Tuesday (July 11) reported that the Indian Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has ordered an inspection into the ed-tech startup Byju’s accounts over alleged governance lapses and compliance failures.</p>

<p>The report by Bloomberg citing sources also said that the ministry had sought a report on the Indian ed-tech startup in six weeks. The decision to escalate the matter to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) will be based on the findings of the inspection, the report added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>CNBC-TV18, on Monday, citing ministry sources reported that the company, as of now, is not facing any investigations by the SFIO. But the matter is being probed by the ministry, the report added. The matter will reportedly be taken up with the SFIO following the ministry probe into Byju’s alleged financial reporting compliance failures and governance lapses.&nbsp;</p>

Since the internet speed's quality depends on both the device specifications and the network, the step is aimed at ensuring that users are well aware of smartphones and other devices like laptops and tablets and are making an informed decision during the purchase of the product.</p>

<p>Currently, the matter is being handled by the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) under the Department of Telecommunications. A stakeholders’ consultation will be carried out by TEC before any final directions are issued by the government on the matter, as per the government officials.<br />

“There are phones ranging between '6,000-200,000' in the country. While mostly people buy phones looking at the camera, battery, built etc, we also want the companies to give an idea about the maximum data speeds that the devices would support. The plan is to make handset data speeds as one of the performance indicators,” stated a government official, adding that they are considering the rules as per international standards like 3GPP.<br />

“We just want a declaration from the handset makers. This would not increase the cost significantly for such companies,” another official stated.</p>

<p>As per current standards, the device makers need to comply and give information on the basis of parameters like battery safety, radiated emissions, Indian language support, mobile emergency support, etc.<br />

“Data communication performance of handsets seems to be an interesting move if mandated by the government as the same will benefit consumers with regard to choice of phones,” stated Faisal Kawoosa, chief analyst at Techarc.</p>

<p>"Twitter under Dorsey and&nbsp;his team were in repeated and continuous violations of India law. As a matter of fact they were in non-compliance with law repeatedly from 2020 to 2022 and it was only June 2022 when they finally complied," said Chandrasekhar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The minister added that the government was attempting to remove misinformation traversing the social media platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"During the protests in January 2021, there was a lot of misinformation and even reports of genocide which were definitely fake. GoI was obligated to remove misinformation from the platform because it had the potential to further inflame the situation based on fake news," he added.</p>

<p>The farmers' protests started after the Modi government brought three controversial farm laws. Thousands of farmers from across the country camped in and around the capital city of Delhi for nearly a year, forcing the government to repeal the laws in November 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dorsey made the claims during an&nbsp;interview to YouTube channel&nbsp;<i>Breaking Points</i>&nbsp;on Monday.</p>

<p>During the interview, Dorsey was asked how did the platform manage when powerful people&nbsp;came to them and demanded certain actions and if he faced any pressure from foreign governments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“India for example, India is one of the countries which had many requests around farmers protests, around particular journalists which were critical of the government, and it manifested in ways such as ‘we will shut Twitter down in India’… ‘we would raid the homes of your employees', which they did; ‘we will shut down your offices if you don't follow suit’. And this is India, a democratic country," said Dorsey.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tthe opposition parties were quick to react to Dorsey's claims with&nbsp;Congress's wings - the Youth Congress and National Students' Union of India releasing&nbsp;statements, criticising the government for playing with such heavy-handedness on the issue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“BJP is the killer of democracy, it is being proved again and again.&nbsp;This is Jack Dorsey, former CEO of #Twitter Here he is saying “During farmer protest Indian govt pressurised us and said we will shut down Twitter, raid the homes of your employees if you don’t follow the suite"," said Neeraj Kundan, national president of the NSUI.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Turkey and Nigeria behaved in similar manner</strong></h2>

<p>Dorsey, who left Twitter last year after billionaire Elon Musk took over the company added that Turley under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan behaved in a similar way to India. Ankara reportedly threatened to shut down Twitter and later got embroiled in a legal battle with the microblogging platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Turkey is very similar (to India), like we had so many requests from Turkey. We fought Turkey in their courts and often won, but they threatened to shut us down constantly,”&nbsp;said Dorsey.</p>

<p>He added that Twitter could not put its employees on the ground in Nigeria, out of fear what the government might do to them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, it was under Dorsey's rule that Twitter briefly lost its 'intermediary' status in India after refusing to comply with the country's new IT rules.&nbsp;The US-based company, at the time, failed to employ a grievance officer, despite being granted repeated extensions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier, after many failed attempts by the wrestlers to register an FIR against Brij Bhushan Singh, Delhi Police lodged two against him, with the first FIR about the sexual harassment allegations by a minor wrestler, for which Bhushan is booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, whereas, the second FIR is related to outraging modesty.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, when these wrestlers first protested against the WFI chief early this year, the Sports Ministry took action, and an overnight committee got formed, chaired by the legendary Mary Kom, to begin the probe into the matter. However, a few months later, when no action was taken against the accused, the wrestlers went back to&nbsp;protesting.</p>

<p>After several other sports personalities raised their voices against the same and backed the wrestlers, Delhi Police finally lodged two FIRs.</p>

<p>As of now, till the probe is finished and a decision is taken, the Sports Ministry has stopped all&nbsp;activities of the wrestling federation.</p>

<p>Speaking at an event in the Indian city of Guwahati, the home minister said, “There were clashes in Manipur after the verdict of a court. I would appeal to both groups, they should maintain peace, and justice will be done with everyone.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shah said that the visit will take place “soon” and that he will stay there for three days to “talk to people of Manipur for establishing peace”. He added, “The Centre will ensure that justice is given to all who suffered in the clashes which broke out in the state, but people must hold a dialogue to ensure peace in the state.”&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Violence-hit Manipur</strong></h2>

<p>Officials on Thursday confirmed the death of a 30-year-old man, Toijam Chandramoni, who was shot during the violence a day prior, while Leichombam Abungnao, aged 22, was injured. Officials believe that the suspected militants opened fire at the group of people, displaced during the recent ethnic clashes in Churachandpur and took shelter in a relief camp at Moirang in the Bishnupur district.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At a press conference, state security advisor Kuldiep Singh said that the violence followed incidents of arson by suspected militants in the Tronglaobi area late Tuesday. “The villagers and those living in the Moirang camp were angry over the burning of their houses,” said the senior police officer, as quoted by news agency PTI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the police, three houses were burnt on Tuesday night and in retaliation, people from the community burnt down four houses. Singh said that while the situation as of now is tense, it is “under control”.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, the house of Manipur minister Konthoujam Govindas in the Bishnupur district was vandalised after a group of people claimed that the authorities are not doing enough to protect the locals from the militants belonging to another community, said a police official. The minister and his family were not present at the house which came under attack.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This comes as the state has witnessed sporadic incidents of violence since the ethnic clashes between the tribal Kuki and the non-tribal Meitei communities first broke out, earlier this month. According to media reports, over 70 people have been killed while more than a thousand have been displaced. Some 2,000 houses have been burned down across the Indian state, reported AFP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With the government announcing the opening of registration for the Annual Amarnath Yatra, the preparations and arrangements for the pilgrimage have started in both the districts of Ganderbal and Anantnag of Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) announced earlier that this year the pilgrimage would be for 62 days instead of 45 days. The Amarnath Yatra would start from July 1. The SASB has introduced Aadhaar authentication-based registration for pilgrims this year. The registration can be done at over 500 bank branches across India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Hassle-free pilgrimage is the top priority of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji. The administration will provide best-in-class healthcare and other essential facilities to all the visiting devotees and service providers,” said Manoj Sinha, Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;<br />

He added, “Telecom services will be made operational prior to the commencement of Pilgrimage. All the stakeholder departments are working in coordination to ensure facilities for lodging, power, water, security and other arrangements for the smooth conduct of Yatra,”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board has also said that there will be a live telecast of morning and evening aarti (prayers) for devotees across the globe. Shri Amarnath Yatra’s App has been made available on the Google Play store to get real-time information about the Yatra, and weather and for availing of several services online.</p>

<p>According to the government, no one below the age of 13 years or above the age of 75 years, and no woman with more than six weeks' pregnancy shall be allowed to take the pilgrimage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>SASB held a meeting which was chaired by the Lt Governor and attended by the members and officials, reviewed various aspects of Amarnath Yatra-2023, including registration, provision of helicopter services, service providers, camps, langars and insurance cover for Yatris.</p>

<p>The Lt Governor also directed the officials to ensure high levels of cleanliness and to take necessary interventions for sanitation and waste management during the Yatra.&nbsp;<br />

Influencers in India to be fined for not declaring commercial ties with promoted brands, products

<p>India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) and its nodal security agency Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) have <a href="https://www.cert-in.org.in/">issued </a>a warning to Apple watch users, citing the device as a 'high severity' security risk. According to the warning issued, anyone running watchOS 8.7 or older is expected to be affected.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The government agency revealed that Apple Watch carried multiple vulnerabilities which make it an ideal target for hackers. The warning mentions that remote hackers may be able to get hold of the wearer's device and using the vulnerabilities, execute arbitrary codes and bypass security restrictions on the device.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If the hackers do manage to break into the Apple watch remotely, they will be able to access the private information of the user. With more and more users using Apple watches to communicate sensitive data such as their bank details, the hacking could prove catastrophic. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Before the watch users get panicked, Apple has already rolled out a new OS update for the watch. The watchOS 8.7 update has security updates and patches, as advised by CERT-IN.</p>

<p>Thus, all users need to do is update their device by installing the latest software. To do so, the user needs to be connected to a wi-fi network and make sure that the device has at least 50 per cent battery.</p>

<p>On the watch, one needs to open settings and tap on software update in the General section. If the update is available, it will start downloading and the user can follow the instructions from there.&nbsp;</p>

We are doing our best to attract more and more youngsters towards sports. If we talk about last year, thousands of youngsters were brought in to be trained in various sports. Sadia won a medal in Wushu, while Arif represented us at the Winter Olympics. Parents are pushing children to go for sports and our efforts are also to bring in as many as possible. Special sports festivals are being organised in every district of Union territory to look for talent in these smaller areas and train them to become professional athletes. "The government has focused a lot on sports in the last few years, especially in the last 5 years." The reason is that the government has done a lot of funding. We always had talent, but we needed infrastructure, and now finally we have all the facilities. We have indoor as well as indoor stadiums. This is just the start and now we have to work on the second phase, which is talent identification and major games. We have to keep the Olympics in our minds. <p>"When we look at India at 75, we are not just looking at the 75 completed years, but 25 years ahead. What have we done, where have we faltered?" he said while talking about India at 75.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Weighing in on the future of the country, Jaishankar said in the next 25 years, India should be at the next stage of globalisation, adding that the nation&nbsp;should be about capability building.&nbsp;</p>

Jaishankar: Better to engage with world on own terms than try to please it

<p>India will have nine nuclear reactors by 2024 and a new nuclear project, the first in northern India, will come up 150 kms away from Delhi in Haryana's Gorakhpur, the government informed the Rajya Sabha.</p>

<p>Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said, "By 2024 you will have nine nuclear reactors plus 12 new additional ones which were approved during the Covid times with a capacity of 9,000 MW. Five new sites are also being identified," in different parts of the country.</p>

<p>Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour, he said what is remarkable is that unlike in the past when nuclear plants were limited to a few states like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, the department has now moved northwards.</p>

<p>"We are going to have a nuclear project, the first of its kind, in North India just about 150 kms from Delhi in a small township called Gorakhpur in Haryana," said Mr Singh, also Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office.</p>

<p>Asked whether the government is thinking of phasing out nuclear power plants on account of safety, the minister said, "We have not only increased the number but are also trying to make a pan-India generation project."</p>

<p>The minister said that nuclear energy will soon emerge as one of the most important sources of alternative or clean energy for the increasing power demand of the country.</p>

<p>As far as the cost is concerned, though it varies from plant to plant and on the age of the plant, Singh said on an average it comes to about&nbsp;Rs&nbsp;&nbsp;3 per unit and while the Kudankulam plant has about&nbsp;Rs&nbsp; 4 per unit and Tarapur has lesser cost.</p>

<p>But in the times to come, with more plants the cost would reduce, he said.</p>

<p>Mr Singh said it was during the tenure of this government that a bulk approval of 10 indigenous reactors was done in a single cabinet decision, which is a record in itself and has never happened in the history of independent India.</p>

<p>In order to promote the setting up of new projects and to overcome the financial constraints that are faced in such situations, the Prime Minister took an out-of-box decision of allowing the atomic energy department to enter into joint ventures, which was never happening before, and the insurance pool has also been increased, Mr Singh told the upper house.</p>

<p>On the expansion of Kudankulan nuclear plant, the Minister also said that "hopefully in 2021, we plan to start the construction of unit 5 and unit 6 as well."</p>

<p>Within the two terms of the present government, he said the Kudankulam plant will have as many as six units whereas in the earlier UPA government hardly the first unit was in progress.</p>

<p>Mr Singh said in 2017-18 there was a generation of 38,336 mega units of power, while this year ending 2020 despite the Covid pandemic it has been 46,472 mega units. During Covid itself we have increased the power generation by more than 4000 mega units in nuclear plans, he said.</p>

<p>The minister said in spite of the Covid pandemic, because of the extra impetus given by the Prime Minister to the enhancement of atomic energy generation and setting up of new units of the reactor, the Kudankulam plant has been progressively showing new constructions and generation.</p>

<p>On whether the atomic energy sector has suffered cuts in the budget due to Covid, the minister said in 2019, the Prime Minister took a decision to give us a&nbsp;₹&nbsp;10,000 crore per year budget and this year also we had a budget of&nbsp;₹&nbsp;17,796 crore. For next 10 years also, there is a plan to increase the budget by&nbsp;₹&nbsp;10,000 crore per year, he said.</p>

<p>The minister also informed that earlier, most of our nuclear projects were with the support of Russia and France and now more and more of our reactors are becoming indigenous.</p>

<p>"The Budget proposed by DAE (Department of Atomic Energy) for Capital expenditure during 2021-22 was&nbsp;₹&nbsp;17,796.24 crore and approved BE 2021-22 for Capital Expenditure is Rs11,403.20 Crore. There is a shortfall of&nbsp;₹&nbsp;6393.04 crore.</p>

<p>"However, it is brought out that due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the situation had not completely normalised at Project sites till the first half of 2021-22. Therefore, no major adverse impact is anticipated on the progress of various ongoing projects, the minister said in his written reply.</p>

The minister said in spite of the Covid pandemic, because of the extra impetus given by the Prime Minister to the enhancement of atomic energy generation and setting up of new units of the reactor, the Kudankulam plant has been progressively showing new constructions and generation. On whether the atomic energy sector has suffered cuts in the budget due to Covid, the minister said in 2019, the Prime Minister took a decision to give us a ₹ 10,000 crore per year budget and this year also we had a budget of ₹ 17,796 crore. For next 10 years also, there is a plan to increase the budget by ₹ 10,000 crore per year, he said. The minister also informed that earlier, most of our nuclear projects were with the support of Russia and France and now more and more of our reactors are becoming indigenous. "The Budget proposed by DAE (Department of Atomic Energy) for Capital expenditure during 2021-22 was ₹ 17,796.24 crore and approved BE 2021-22 for Capital Expenditure is Rs11,403.20 Crore. There is a shortfall of ₹ 6393.04 crore. "However, it is brought out that due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the situation had not completely normalised at Project sites till the first half of 2021-22. Therefore, no major adverse impact is anticipated on the progress of various ongoing projects, the minister said in his written reply.

<p>Recently, Afghan Sikhs who reached Ludhiana in Punjab thanked the Indian government for their safe evacuation from war-torn Afghanistan. They also opened up about ordeals they faced in Afghanistan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of them, Gurdit Singh used to run a grocery shop in Kabul and is family has been living in Afghanistan for sixty years. They are among the Sikh families that have been brought to India from Afghanistan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to ANI, Singh said, "The situation is very critical after the Taliban occupation of Afghanistan. There is open firing in every street and lane. There is a panic among the people. Be it Hindu, Sikh or Muslim, everyone wants to leave Afghanistan. People are waiting with their children outside the airport to leave Afghanistan."</p>

<p>India is also holding discussions on the position of Afghans who are already here for health checkups and studies, etc before the Taliban seized power in Kabul.&nbsp;</p>
