Businessmen and workers connected to industrial organisations on Monday held a protest against the government for the industry shutdown imposed for the last 17 days in the city. 
 
The Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority had directed the closure of industries to curb pollution from October 25. 
 
Representatives of the industry allege that they are facing losses to the tune of crores of rupees per day due to the shutdown. They further alleged that it is not just the industries which cause pollution. 
 
The businessmen met the Deputy Commissioner today and submitted their request for resolution of their problems failing which they will protest along with their families on the roads from November 12. 
 
Around 5 lakh workers work in 12,000 odd industries in Panipat. Workers are bearing the brunt due to closure of industries as they have been rendered without any source of income for the last 17 days. 
 
"The industry has only been closed in Panipat and not in Karnal and Sonipat. Karnal is the home city of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Sonipat is close to Delhi. If the government does not consider our demands, we will be forced to protest at a larger scale," Avinash Garg, a blanket trader said. 
 
"All industrial and business establishments are supporting us in this protest. Due to this the markets will remain closed as a symbolic gesture tomorrow," Bhim Rana, chief of the Dyers' Association said.

The Uttarakhand Police on Monday arrested a man for allegedly calling up Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and threatening to blow up the Har Ki Pauri Ghat in Haridwar.

During the call, which was received by protocol officer Anand Singh Rawat, the man threatened to detonate a bomb at Har Ki Pauri.

Ashok Kumar, Director General (Law and Order), told ANI that the man was arrested from the same place that he had threatened to blow up.

President Donald Trump on Friday said that the US has a "very good" relationship with India and "lots of things" are happening between the two countries 
On the possible visit to India, the US president Trump said that he will go to the country at "some point". He also made a reference to the Houston event in Texas in September. 
 
"We are dealing with India on lots of different things. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a very great friend of mine. you saw me at Houston. We have a lots of things are happening with India," Trump told reporters outside the White House when asked about the progress in his trade deal with India. 
 
In September while sharing a stage with Trump in Houston, Modi had invited the US President and his family to visit India, saying it will give a new height to the shared dreams of the two countries.

Former Australia batsman Dean Jones told Reuters this week that Pant needs to improve his off-side game if he wants to graduate from being a one-trick pony.

"There is a lot of talk happening about Rishabh Pant every day, every minute," Rohit, who is leading the hosts in place of rested regular captain Virat Kohli, told reporters ahead of Sunday's deciding final Twenty20 international against Bangladesh at Nagpur.

"I just feel that he needs to be allowed to do what he wants to do on the field. I would request everyone to just keep their eyes away from Rishabh Pant for a while."

Pant was perceived as Mahendra Singh Dhoni's natural successor in limited-overs cricket for India when the former captain eventually hangs up his gloves and till recently was the preferred choice behind the stumps in all three formats.

He played 11 tests in the absence of the injured Saha and used his chances well, hitting a century in an Oval test against England last year while smashing an unbeaten 159 versus Australia in Sydney in January.

His six-hitting ability makes him a limited-overs asset, but India head coach Ravi Shastri and batting coach Vikram Rathour said in recent interviews that the left-hander's shot selection has occasionally let the team down.

Pant played within himself and seemed to curb his natural instincts in his 26-ball knock of 27 during India's loss to Bangladesh in the first T20 in Delhi while he did not get a chance to bat during the series-levelling win at Rajkot.

He, however, handed a reprieve to Bangladesh opener Liton Das, who was stumped off Yuzvendra Chahal but replays confirmed Pant did not collect the ball behind the stumps, with part of his gloves jutting ahead of the line.

Pant nearly repeated the mistake when effecting a similar dismissal to send back Soumya Sarkar for 30 off Chahal.

"He is a young guy ... trying to make his mark in international cricket. Every move he makes on the field, people start talking about him. It is not fair," Rohit said.

"Focus on him a lot more when he is doing good things also, not just the bad things. He is a fearless cricketer and we want him to have that freedom. And if you guys keep your eyes little bit off him, it will allow him to perform even better."

The return of the marquee event to India has sowed another dream for the Indian team who believe this will be their best chance to finish on the podium after India last won the coveted trophy in 1975. 
 
"The loss against the Netherlands was a huge disappointment for us but now that India is set to host the World Cup again, we see this as yet another opportunity to complete the unfinished business," Singh said in an official statement. 
 
"We are really excited to learn that India has won the bid again to host the FIH Men's World Cup in 2023. We could not succeed in 2018 though we had a realistic chance of making the semifinal of the World Cup in 2018," he added. 
 
He further stressed on the strong pool of players India boasts of at the moment and their exposure at the international level in the coming years will ensure they have a strong and formidable team for the 2023 World Cup. 
 
"We have ample time to prepare for the next edition of the World Cup. Our first priority at the moment is to do well in the FIH Pro League and use the platform to prepare well for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where we seek a medal," Singh said. 
 
"A good show in Japan will only lay a solid foundation in the build-up to the World Cup in 2023. We have a strong pool of talented youngsters in the senior and junior set-up and the next two-three years they need to step-up their game and use all the opportunities that come their way," he added. 
 
The Odisha Men's World Cup in 2018 held at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium was a mega success with the world taking notice of the precession in executing the event and the grandeur in which it was hosted. While the 2018 marquee event was a spectacular show, Manpreet hopes the 2023 World will be a bigger affair. 
 
"In terms of performance, our focus will be on the major tournaments that we will be playing from now till 2022 - 2023. This also includes the Asia Cup which we would like to win again and qualify for the World Cup even though we get an automatic qualification as hosts. The World Cup in 2018 was the best that the hockey fraternity had ever seen and Odisha Government ensured the hospitality and infrastructure was top-notch so the next World Cup in India will surely have high expectations in terms of how it's hosted," Singh said. 
 
The Indian team is currently on a break and will regroup for a conditioning camp starting from November 18 in Bhubaneswar.

PM Modi to inaugurate integrated check post of Kartarpur Corridor tomorrow

Ranong Port of Thailand and port trusts of Chennai, Visakhapatnam and Kolkata have inked three Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) to cut down sea travel time by half between the two countries.

The MoUs were signed at the first-ever two-day Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Conclave of Ports, being held at Vishakhapatnam on November 7-8, that aims to provide a platform to strengthen maritime interaction and port-led connectivity initiatives among member countries.

These MOUs will contribute to BIMSTEC`s objective of strengthening connectivity and is a part of India`s Act East Policy, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

"These MOUs will enhance economic partnership by cutting down the sea travel time between India and Thailand from 10 -15 days to 07 days," it read.

India attaches great importance to BIMSTEC which links five countries from South Asia - Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka and two from South-East Asia - Myanmar and Thailand.

The BIMSTEC region brings together 1.67 billion people, equivalent to around 22 per cent of the world population and a combined GDP of USD 3.71 trillion.

Four BIMSTEC summits have been held so far, the last one at Kathmandu in 2018.

The previous summits were held in Bangkok (Thailand) in 2004, New Delhi (India) in 2008, Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar) in 2014.

The MoUs were signed at the first-ever two-day Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Conclave of Ports, being held at Vishakhapatnam on November 7-8, that aims to provide a platform to strengthen maritime interaction and port-led connectivity initiatives among member countries. These MOUs will contribute to BIMSTEC`s objective of strengthening connectivity and is a part of India`s Act East Policy, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement. "These MOUs will enhance economic partnership by cutting down the sea travel time between India and Thailand from 10 -15 days to 07 days," it read.
