<p>He suggested that Trudeau might have made hasty allegations without substantial proof and urged him to clarify why his government was providing shelter to a "terrorist with a criminal record." Rubin went on to say that most probably Justin Trudeau won't be there for long in premiership, and the US can get rebuild its relationship with Canada after he's gone.</p>

<p>"Prime Minister Trudeau I think has made a huge mistake. He has made allegations in a manner which he hasn't been able to back. Either he was shooting from the hip and he doesn't have the evidence to support the accusations he made against the government. There is something there, in which case he needs to explain why this government was sheltering a terrorist," the former Pentagon official said.</p>

<p>“We need to have the evidence that drew that allowed the prime minister to come to the conclusions he made,” he said.</p>

<p>“I would have to have more evidence to make a judgment on that. I do find it interesting that he knew about vast foreign interference by Beijing for many years, at the same time as Beijing had kept two Canadian citizens hostage. And he said nothing. And he did nothing. Just very interesting that that was the approach he took in that case,” Poilievre&nbsp;added.</p>

<h2><strong>Khalistani terrorists are sheltered by Canada: India's foreign ministry</strong></h2>

<p>India's foreign ministry said that the country is&nbsp;a democratic polity with a strong commitment to the rule of law.</p>

<p>"Such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A number of individuals designated as terrorists by India's National Investigative Agency continue to call for India's break-up in Canada. Since 2020, self-proclaimed "referendums" that call for the break-up of the Indian state of Punjab from the Union of India have been occurring despite India&nbsp;asserting strong diplomatic offences.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The inaction of the Canadian Government on this matter has been a long-standing and continuing concern," India's foreign ministry said.</p>

<p>Harjit Sajjan, a minister in Justin Trudeau's government, has expressed implicit support for the denounced cause of a Sikh homeland in the form of separate Khalistan. His parents are reportedly associated with&nbsp;the World Sikh Organisation, a Sikh advocacy group which supports the Khalistani movement.</p>

<p>"That Canadian political figures have openly expressed sympathy for such elements remains a matter of deep concern," India's foreign ministry said.</p>

<p>"The space given in Canada to a range of illegal activities, including murders, human trafficking and organised crime is not new. We reject any attempts to connect the Government of India to such developments. We urge the Government of Canada to take prompt and effective legal action against all anti-India elements operating from their soil."</p>

<p>In the past, while reacting to the visuals of a parade that showed former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination by her Sikh bodyguards, India's foreign minister Dr S&nbsp;Jaishankar had pointed to the purported compulsions of "vote bank politics" in Canada.</p>

<p>Referring to the incident in Canada's Brampton where a float showing the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi was paraded, Jaishankar said: "Frankly, we are at a loss to understand other than the requirements of vote bank politics why anybody would do this.&nbsp;I think there is a larger underlying issue about the space which is given to separatists, extremists, to people who advocate violence. I think it is not good for relationships, not good for Canada."</p>

<p>Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s NSA Jody Thomas on Friday said, "When I talk about foreign interference and economic security, I’m now talking about a number of state actors and non-state proxies."</p>

<p>"This includes Russia, Iran, India. That said, the actor that comes up most on these issues, and it’s no surprise to anybody, is China," she added.</p>

<p>While addressing a press conference to mark&nbsp;nine years of Prime Minister&nbsp;Narendra Modi's arrival in New Delhi's corridors of power, Jaishankar specifically addressed&nbsp;the Modi&nbsp;government's foreign policy.</p>

<p>Jaishankar said there has been strategic clarity and the second image of India is that of an economic collaborator.<br />
"The world, especially the Global South, perceives India as a development partner - as a credible, effective development partner with delivery on the ground," he said.</p>
