India has offered to make a flyover from Darshni Sthal, from where the holy site could be seen from the Indian side, till the 'zero point' where India-Pak corridors meet.

India had proposed Tuesday's meeting to address the outstanding technical issues. Currently, the project is being implemented on the ground with speed.

The first meet took place last month on March 19. During that meeting, which included engineers and surveyors, the survey of the site was done and the alignment of the corridor was also discussed.

Last month, India had postponed the second India-Pakistan official talks on Kartarpur corridor after <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/pakistan-keeps-mum-on-indias-concerns-over-presence-of-khalistani-separatists-on-kartarpur-panel-207936">New Delhi raised concerns over the presence of Khalistanis on Pakistan's committee</a> that will oversee the implementation of the corridor.

The first India-Pak officials' meet took place on March 14. India had then proposed that the corridor should be open to Indian citizens and Indian diaspora with 5,000 people allowed every day.&nbsp;

Islamabad wasn't keen on the Indian proposal saying they can only allow 700 people, that too only Indian citizens, on designated days with a paid permit.

India has already clarified that the talks do not mean the resumption of a dialogue process. The corridor has been a long-standing demand of Indian citizens of Sikh faith. Pakistan agreed to the demand after India announced last year in November that it will build the corridor.

After Hamid Nehal and Uzma Ahmed, reports emerge of another Indian who fell in love and went to Pakistan but is now in captivity. Tina from Chandigarh had arrived in Pakistan last year on October 24 and allegedly converted to Islam to marry a Pakistani national.&nbsp;

India has raised the issue of Tina's captivity with Pakistan government many times but their response is awaited. New Delhi has sent four note verbals to Pakistan but no response has come.

Tina is believed to be in the captivity of her husband Suleman in Gujranwala, Pakistan.&nbsp;

The Indian High Commission spokesperson said, "we await a formal response from the Pakistani ministry of foreign affairs on our request to locate and repatriate this Indian citizen."

Meanwhile, Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Dr Faisal told WION, "We are ascertaining facts in the matter and will formally respond soon to the Indian High Commission."

Tina, who has taken Islamic name Ayesha, will record her statement in front of a magistrate soon.

The case has many parallels with Hamid Nehal and Uzma Ahmed. Hamid was repatriated last year after 6 years in a Pakistani jail. Hamid Nehal Ansari went to Pakistan via Afghanistan after befriending a Pakistani girl whom he fell in love with. He went to Pakistan's Kohat on a fake passport in 2012 and was arrested there by security officials.

Uzma Ahmed, an Indian who was brought back in 2017 had a similar story. She fell in love with a Pakistan's Tahir Ali in Malaysia and went with him to Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district. Later in Buner district of the province, she was asked to marry him. She managed to escape and reached the Indian High Commission and with the help of officials there came back to India.

India on Monday successfully test fired its 1,000-km strike range<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/india-successfully-test-fires-man-portable-anti-tank-guided-missile-203365"> sub-sonic cruise missile 'Nirbhay'</a>&nbsp;off the coast of Odisha.

"All the mission objectives of the test have been achieved and the missile performed very well during the entire flight duration," officials in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said.

This was the sixth development flight trial with an objective to prove the repeatability of boost phase, cruise phase using way-point navigation at very low altitudes, DRDO said in a release.

"The missile took off vertically turning horizontally into the desired direction, booster separated, wings deployed, engine started, cruised all the intended waypoints. The missile demonstrated its sea-skimming capability to cruise at very low altitudes," it said.

The entire flight was fully tracked by a chain of electro-optical tracking systems, radars and ground telemetry systems deployed all along the sea coast.

Nirbhay missile can blast off like a rocket and unlike a missile, it turns into a vehicle akin an aircraft. Flying at tree-top level, it can deceive enemy radars making it difficult to be detected.&nbsp;

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday said that the only way for Pakistan and India to move forward is through dialogue and underlined that major international players have a responsibility towards ensuring strategic stability in the South Asian region.

Addressing a National Conference on Strategic Stability in South Asia here, he said that recent events were a "reminder of the heavy responsibility" that both Pakistan and India have to bear in working towards addressing the "underlying challenges" to strategic stability in the region.

He said the two countries "need to commit to a peaceful environment that is conducive to the socio-economic development and welfare of the people."

Tensions flared up between India and Pakistan after a suicide bomber of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) killed 40 CRPF personnel in Kashmir's Pulwama district on February 14.

Amid mounting outrage, the Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out a counter-terror operation, hitting the biggest JeM training camp in Balakot, deep inside Pakistan on February 26. The next day, Pakistan Air Force retaliated and downed a MiG-21 in an aerial combat and captured an IAF pilot, who was handed over to India on March 1.

Qureshi said that the South Asian security environment is in a "state of flux" and Pakistan expects the outside players to be mindful of their responsibility in terms of arms supplies to the region.

He hoped the key players would recognise the need for objective and even-handed approach which is not tainted by considerations of geo political dominance and defining new regional security paradigms.

The foreign minister called on outside parties to be "mindful" of their responsibility in terms of arms supplies to the region in pursuit of their geo-political strategies.

The foreign minister said Pakistan is opposed to conventional and nuclear arms race in the region.

He said India's "massive acquisition of conventional arms coupled with its offensive doctrine such as cold start and expansion of strategic assets including nuclear submarines are developments with serious security implications for Pakistan."

The foreign minister said Pakistan needs a "willing and constructive partner to tackle the myriad daunting challenges" that the region is facing.

"A peaceful neighbourhood is the sine qua non [an essential condition] to build prosperous societies," he was quoted as saying by Dawn.

He said the country specific exemption by the Nuclear Supplier Group has had negative implications for strategic stability in the region.

Qureshi said the "recent belligerence" displayed against Pakistan and the assumption that the country could be subject to punitive strikes at will is a clear manifestation of threats to stability in the region.

Qureshi said that Pakistan has shown it is prepared to take concrete steps to ease tension and work for friendly relations with India with Kartarpur corridor like initiatives.

"India also need to understand that the only way forward is dialogue," he said.&nbsp;

Pakistan will release 360 Indian in its custody in this month with the first batch of 100 Indians being released on Monday. Most of them are fishermen who are from Gujarat and some from UP.

Next batch of 100 will be released on April 15, followed by 100 on April 22 and 60 on April 29.

The development comes in the backdrop of New Delhi sending a note verbale to Pakistan high commission on Tuesday calling for the release of the 385 Indian fishermen who have completed their sentences.&nbsp;

503 Indian fishermen are believed to be in Pakistan’s custody of which Pakistan has acknowledged the custody of 483 fishermen who are Indian or believed-to-be-Indian in their jails.&nbsp;

Since 2014, the Indian Government has been able to secure the release of 1749 Indian prisoners, including 1725 fishermen along with 57 boats.

In December of 2018, Pakistan released Indian Citizen Hamid Nehal Ansari after six years in jail. Hamid Nehal was arrested by Pakistani authorities in 2012 after he was caught with a fake passport. He had gone to Pakistan via Afghanistan on a fake passport to meet a girl he befriended on Facebook.

It was followed by the release of two Pakistani nationals by India--Imran Warsi and Abdullah Shah. Imran Wari had come to India in 2004 on a valid visa but overstayed after marrying an Indian girl. He was caught after trying to make a fake passport in Bhopal and was released in 2018, after spending 10 years in jail. Shah, an autistic from swat, crossed over to India to meet Shah Rukh Khan in 2017.

In October 2017, India had suggested Pakistan that the two sides could work together for the release and repatriation of elderly, women and mentally unsound prisoners on humanitarian grounds and proposed to revive the mechanism of Joint Judicial Committee.

In the past 6 months, the ministry of external affairs via--3 note verbale, one on 1 January, other in December and November-- had called on Islamabad to organise an early visit of Joint Judicial Committee to Pakistan but it has got no response.

The ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "we have said from the beginning, we haven't ever changed our position that Pak has used F-16."

India has already raised the matter with the US regarding the use of F-16s given by Washington to Islamabad. New Delhi had provided evidence of the use of F-16 by showing the use of the AMRAAM missile that can only be deployed on F-16.

The spokesperson said, "whether and under what circumstances F16 is or is not allowed will have to come from the US."

Adding, "Fact of the matter is that it was used and we understand as per the understanding of the use of F-16 between Us and Pak, it should have not been done and we are why had flagged with the US."

The Pakistani Army in its April 1 release said, "Even if F-16 have been used as at that point in time complete PAF was airborne including F16s, the fact remains that Pakistan Airforce shot down two Indian jets in self-defence. ..India can assume any type of their choice even F-16. Pakistan retains the right to use anything and everything in its legitimate self-defence."

The use of F-16s by Pakistan can have implications since the US had given F-16s to Islamabad for counter-terror operations. The US state dept has said that it is &nbsp;"taking a look" on the use of F-16 by Pakistan on February 27.

In a jibe at Pakistan, India has said that it never changed its position that Islamabad used F-16 during the attack on Indian military installations on February 27.

Trump Administration may allow a small group of countries, including India continue buying Iranian oil after a US deadline on sanctions waivers expires in May, news agency ANI reported quoting analysts.

India, China, Turkey, South Korea and Japan were among the eight countries that were allowed to continue importing Iranian crude in November and condensate without facing penalties, and are now likely to be given new waivers, according to US-based analysts Eurasia Group.

The US will probably fail to meet its goal to reduce Iranian oil exports to zero, despite renewed talk from the White House about letting all oil import waivers expire on May 2, a move that will limit oil exports from Iran, the fourth-largest producer in OPEC.

"Given OPEC+ production cuts and conditions in Venezuela, the oil market probably cannot absorb the loss of 1.3 million barrels per day of Iranian crude without a significant effect on domestic gasoline prices- a red line for US President Donald Trump,"&nbsp;&nbsp;said Henry Rome, a political analyst at Eurasia Group's Global Macro practice, in a note.

If waivers are renewed, countries importing the crude oil will most likely be required to reduce purchases.

In that case, Iranian exports are likely to fall between 900,000 bpd and 1.1 million bpd on average through the May-November waiver period.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

India and Moscow have discussed the evolving situation in Afghanistan among other things during their Foreign Office Consultations held in Russia. &nbsp;Indian foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale was in Moscow from 1st to 2nd April and meet both the Russian deputy foreign ministers — Igor Morgulov and Sergey Ryabkov.

Last year, India participated at Moscow talks on Afghanistan unofficially by sending two former envoys-- Former Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Amar Sinha &amp; Former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan TCA Raghavan. Taliban was also present in the meet. New Delhi is in touch with Russia, China, Iran and Central Asian countries regarding the Afghan peace process.

The discussions with the Russians come&nbsp;days after Foreign Secretary met United State's special envoy on Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad in Washington and discussed the Afghan peace process. New Delhi has told Washinton that the existing elected political structure in Afghanistan should continue and not replaced by an interim administration. &nbsp;

In a release, the ministry of external affairs said, "Foreign Secretary’s meetings were in-depth and productive, characteristic of the Special &amp; Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. The meetings resulted in enhanced mutual convergence and coordination of views on all major regional and international issues in the spirit of long-standing and time-tested friendship between India and Russia."

Other than Afghanistan, both sides also discussed India’s participation in the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok in September this year, India's Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) membership and counter-terrorism.&nbsp;

The Russian foreign ministry in its release said," parties noted with satisfaction the ongoing development of Russia-India special privileged strategic partnership, the common approach of two states to the current global and regional challenges, including the creation of security architecture and equal cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and counter-terrorism."

The Afghan Civil Aviation Authority said on Sunday that the country has suffered a loss of $8 million as Pakistan's airspace continues to remain closed to flights to and from India.&nbsp;

Pakistan blocked its airspace to Indian flights on February 27 after the Balakot air strikes.

The head of the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority, Mohammad Qasim Wafaye Zada, said that the continuation of the blockage of Pakistani airspace to flights between Afghanistan and India has resulted in Indian airlines halting all flights to Afghanistan.&nbsp;

Besides, the closing of Pakistani airspace&nbsp;has caused a loss of $8 million to the Afghan civil aviation sector.

Planes now coming or going to Afghanistan from India have to take a longer route by flying over Iran; that results in greater fuel consumption. This has added to the&nbsp;overall cost, and pushed up ticket&nbsp;prices.

The cost of a one-way ticket on Afghanistan's Ariana and Kam Air from Kabul to Delhi before the closure of Pakistan's airspace was $145 and $160. Those tickets now cost $200 and $300.

The cost of a SpiceJet ticket from Kabul to Delhi earlier was $170; it is now $360.

And a Delhi-to-Kabul flight that earlier used to take less than two hours now takes over five hours.

Russia on Friday slammed Washington for leading the arms race even as it justified India's ASAT missile project saying ''India's test is in self-defence''.&nbsp;

''We noted the test of anti-satellite weapons conducted by India on March 27 and we have to state that this action of India has been largely the result of the substantially degraded situation in the field of arms control,'' Russia said in a statement.&nbsp;

Russia has repeatedly warned that the destructive actions of the United States to undermine the entire architecture of international security and strategic stability, including unilateral and unlimited development of the US global anti-missile defence systems, as well as the reluctance to abandon plans for the weaponization of outer space, the statement added.&nbsp;

''We urge Washington to take a responsible stand, come to senses and drop the insane, and most importantly - absolutely unrealizable - the idea of universal military domination. It is still possible to stop the arms race unfolding in various regions of the world,'' the statement further said.&nbsp;

India has asked the United Nations security council to strongly take up lack of implementations of sanctions under its 1257 committee even as some countries acting as "apologist for terrorist" continue to justify their inaction on the issue of terror.&nbsp;

The development comes against the backdrop of lack of implementation of UN sanctions by Pakistan. 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, who is on the UN terror list, continues to roam freely in the country despite being on the sanctions list.

India's permanent representative Syed Akbaruddin to UN speaking at the UNSC during adoption of a resolution on Preventing and Combating the Financing of Terrorism said, "Many Council resolutions, including the various sanctions measures under the 1267 and 1988 sanctions regimes, where asset freeze is a core part of states obligations call for regular reporting under these measures. A cursory look at the publicly available information on the website would reveal that the implementation reports on these sanctions measures have not been updated for years and in some cases more than a decade."

"Non-compliance of crucial sanctions measures in case of UN proscribed terrorists and entities renders all of us, Member States, at a high risk of facing challenges from these terrorist organizations who are well funded and armed despite international measures," Akbaruddin added.

A report submitted by the UNSC 1267 sanctions monitoring team had on Jan 15, 2019, recommended that committee members write to member states in this regard. &nbsp;

Meanwhile, without taking the name of Pakistan, Indian Envoy to UN said certain countries will justify inaction on the issues of terror.&nbsp;

He said, " the unfortunate reality is that States who are apologists for terrorists will continue to provide alibis to justify their actions and inaction too".

Pakistan on Wednesday called India to give more evidence regarding Jaish-e-Mohammed's involvement in the Pulwama terror attack and said the locations provided by New Delhi in the Pulwama dossier have no terror camps.

India has asked the United Nations security council to strongly take up lack of implementations of sanctions under its 1257 committee even as some countries acting as "apologist for terrorist" continue to justify their inaction on the issue of terror.

India has asked the United Nations security council to strongly take up lack of implementations of sanctions under its 1257 committee even as some countries acting as "apologist for terrorist" continue to justify their inaction on the issue of terror. A cursory look at the publicly available information on the website would reveal that the implementation reports on these sanctions measures have not been updated for years and in some cases more than a decade." "Non-compliance of crucial sanctions measures in case of UN proscribed terrorists and entities renders all of us, Member States, at a high risk of facing challenges from these terrorist organizations who are well funded and armed despite international measures," Akbaruddin added. Trade ministry has proposed that the government delays by a month the imposition of retaliatory tariffs on some US&nbsp;goods that were due to go into effect from April 1, a trade ministry spokeswoman told Reuters on Friday.

Trade friction between India and the United States has escalated after US&nbsp;President Donald Trump announced plans earlier this month to end preferential trade treatment for India that allows duty-free entry for up to $5.6 billion worth of its exports to the United States.

Indian officials believe India could lose its preferential treatment in early May. The government has asked the US&nbsp;administration to review its decision, two government officials with close knowledge of the matter said.

In June last year, India said it would increase import duties varying from 20 per cent to 120 per cent on a slew of US&nbsp;farm, steel and iron products, angered by Washington's refusal to exempt it from new steel and aluminium tariffs.

But since then, New Delhi has repeatedly delayed the implementation of the higher duties.

The trade ministry spokeswoman said the government planned to send a delegation to Washington to address bilateral trade issues, and that the ministry was seeking to hold off imposing retaliatory tariffs until May.

"The Ministry of Commerce has requested the Department of Revenue to extend the deadline for the&nbsp;imposition of tariffs on US&nbsp;goods by another 30 days," the spokeswoman said.

The revenue department falls within the finance ministry, and the two ministries need to consult over any decision to delay the tariffs.

India is the world's largest beneficiary of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which dates from the 1970s.

Ending its participation would be the strongest punitive action the United States has taken against India since Trump took office.

The timing of the US&nbsp;decision to revoke the trade privileges is awkward for India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is heading into a general election from April 11 to May 19, with results due out on May 23.

India and the United States have developed close political and security ties. But bilateral trade, which stood at $126 billion in 2017, is widely seen to be performing at nearly a quarter of its potential.

Trump has criticised India for its high tariffs, and the dispute has widened over investment policies such as new rules on the e-commerce sector that led to the US&nbsp;pulling the plug on India's vital trade concessions.

India, however, does not want to escalate the trade fight, two sources with knowledge of the matter said.

"India is obviously upset. But what can we do? Can we stop trade? You are importing oil, gas, defence equipment and aircraft&nbsp;and nuclear energy. The stakes are much larger," one of the officials said.

The USTR did not answer questions emailed to them about any ongoing trade discussions.

If the United States eliminates duty-free access for about 2,000 Indian product lines, it will mostly hurt small and medium businesses, such as engineering goods. The number of items qualifying for preferential treatment could be reduced, or the whole programme could be withdrawn.

A leading Indian trade body official said both the US&nbsp;customers and domestic suppliers could be hit in some categories of engineering products where clients typically enter into long-term contracts.

However, China could benefit on exports of products made from iron and steel and low-end engineering goods, said Suranjan Gupta, executive director, EEPC India, a government-affiliated engineering exports trade body.

"Some of the low-value exports of engineering goods are likely to face competitive pressure from other suppliers, with China being one of the major ones," Gupta said.
