Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Imran Khan could well cross paths with each other at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday. As the UN General Assembly session formally opens, at least one occasion could present itself when Modi and Khan would be under the same roof -- an eagerly-awaited optic amid khan's attempt to draw global attention to Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 which Indian government maintains is an internal matter. That said, while Modi and Khan may chance upon each other at various engagements slated for today, it is speculative at best to assume that the two will confront each other at the United Nations. Both Indian prime minister and his Pakistan counterpart would address the UN general assembly on September 27. Earlier Modi and Khan crossed paths during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek for the first time following Pulwama terror attack. The informal exchange came in the backdrop of Modi’s strong pitch for a regional and global drive to eliminate terrorism. “The Prime Minister exchanged usual pleasantries with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan in the Leaders’ Lounge,” said a source then. However, the sources said, the interaction did not amount to a meeting or a “pull-aside” and was just an exchange of pleasantries.

In yet another diplomatic blow to Pakistan, US President Donald Trump on Monday said that he was willing to mediate on Kashmir issue but stressed that he will do it only if both India and Pakistan want him to act as a mediator. Watch this video to know more.

Willing to mediate on Kashmir issue if India, Pak agree: US President Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump refuses to mediate in Kashmir issue without India's consent

Yesterday we saw Donald Trump and Imran Khan meet and today we are looking forward towards the meeting of Indian Prime Minister and the US President. Kashmir of course comes up in discussions and Donald Trump keeps on saying that 'i will mediate only if both sides want it'. Why these repeated U-turns in back and forth on the part of Washington when India has repeatedly clarified that Kashmir is bilateral issue and no third party help is needed?

Two Pakistani parliamentarians and human rights campaigners were released on bail in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after four months in detention, their lawyer said on Saturday.

The two lawmakers, Ali Wazir, and Mohsin Dawar, along with several activists of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), were arrested after a deadly clash between troops and activists at a security post in northern<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/massive-protests-expected-in-pok-251019"> Pakistan</a> in May.

"Both the parliamentarians were released from Haripur jail after midnight," Tariq Afghan, the lawyer for the two leaders told Reuters.

PTM campaigns against alleged extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances of Pashtuns and other ethic minorities.

It emerged last year after the killing of an ethnic Pashtun man by police in the southern city of Karachi, which led to nationwide protests and turned the issue of alleged state violence against Pashtuns into a national debate.

The military has accused the PTM of being funded by foreign intelligence agencies - a veiled reference to arch-foe India and its Afghan allies - to stoke unrest in Pakistan's Pashtun lands after the Pakistani army defeated Islamist militants there.

The PTM denies foreign links.

On May 26, soldiers at a security post fired on a group of protesters led by PTM leaders and serving parliamentarians Mohsin Dawar and Ali Wazir, according to PTM representatives, who said 13 of their supporters were killed.

The army said troops exchanged fire with the protesters when they attacked the checkpoint, and that three of the attackers were killed.

On his release, Dawar posted a tweet describing the incident as a massacre.

"In its aftermath, this State piled up even more violations of human rights, decency in its treatment of Ali and myself," he said in the tweet on Saturday.

A spokesman for Prime Minister <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/pakistan-pm-imran-khan-performed-umrah-with-his-wife-250837">Imran Khan</a>'s government was not available to comment on Dawar's allegations.&nbsp;

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday announced that it would extend a bailout package worth $6&nbsp;billion to help Pakistan restore an inclusive and sustainable growth of its plunging economy.

In a video shared on its official Twitter page, the global money lender said that large deficits in the past, the high cost to buy a rupee, and lack of reforms have undermined the growth of the cash-strapped economy.

In addition, significant government borrowing had further made it difficult to pay down the debt, added the IMF.

The global lending agency said that "to restore strong and sustainable growth, Pakistan has developed a bold 3-year program to first, allow the market to drive a fair value of the rupee helping to restore competitiveness and support exports; second, reducing debt by ensuring that more people pay taxes and the rich pay their fair share; and third, protecting vulnerable groups by increasing spending on healthcare and education."

It said the loan would further accelerate reforms to encourage investment to help companies thrive and create jobs.

"This will help Pakistan's economy reach its full potential," the global money lender wrote on Twitter.

To support its ailing economy, the country had signed a similar $6 billion loan from the IMF earlier this year.

On Monday, an eight-member IMF delegation arrived in Islamabad to review Pakistan's economic progress two months after signing the deal with focus on the country's failure to achieve the set revenue collection target, Arab News reported.

Pakistan's trade deficit shrank by nearly 38 per cent in the first two months of the current fiscal year, driven largely by a decline in imports of non-essential luxury items.

The constant decline in the trade deficit showed that imports have also plummeted despite a meagre growth in exports.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was elected on an anti-corruption plank and a pledge to end austerity measures, had vowed to improve the depleting economic situation of the cash-strapped country.

In fact, the opposite has happened. In reality, prices of gas and oil products and electricity in Pakistan have risen considerably, burning a hole in common man's pocket.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said there is no chance of talks with India and Pakistan on Kashmir until the 'curfew' is lifted.

"There is no chance of talks with India on Kashmir until the curfew is lifted," Khan said at a ceremony at Pakistan's Torkham border crossing with Afghanistan.

However, India has maintained that there is no curfew in Jammu and Kashmir, which became a Union Territory after the abrogation of Article 370.

Even most of the countries have backed India, stating that New Delhi's decision to make changes in Jammu and Kashmir is part of its internal affairs.

Meanwhile, country's External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said that India's position on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has always been clear that it is a part of India. India's external affairs minister added that the country expects it will have "jurisdiction" over it one day.

"Our position on PoK has always been and will always be very clear. PoK is part of India and we expect one day that we will have the physical jurisdiction over it," Jaishankar said at a press conference on 100 days of Modi government's second term.

Pakistan's sham crackdown on terrorism was exposed yet again after a photo surfaced on social media showing ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) top political leaders sharing a stage with US-designated terrorist Maulana Fazlur Rehman Khalil.

The photo, which was shared by, journalist Asif Shahzad, is from All Parties Kashmir Solidarity Conference which was held in Islamabad on September 16.

The conference was attended by President of Pakistan occupied Kashmir Masood Khan and Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan among other prominent leaders. However, the presence of Khalil, a PTI leader and founder of the terrorist organisation Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), in the event meant to garner support for Kashmir was questionable.

India has long blamed Pakistan for fuelling terror and supporting terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir to create unrest in the region.&nbsp;

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/pakistan-pm-imran-khan-aims-to-restart-afghan-peace-talks-250406">Imran Khan</a>'s party, which rose to power with a promise to not provide safe haven to terrorists, has been often blamed for supporting terrorist groups. Khan has been infamous as Taliban Khan for his staunch support to the terrorist group.

Khalil's organization HuM is said to have been in direct contact with Osama Bin Laden and his family when he was in Abbottabad and has been on the US State department's foreign terrorist organization list since 1997.

Khalil has been a strong supporter of Imran Khan and advocated for the latter's candidature as the Prime Minister of the country last year.

In March, Khan's government received a lot of backlash for including Khahil into the party.

The photo has emerged weeks before the crucial Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting where Pakistan's compliance with the action plan will be assessed and it fears blacklisting.

Pakistan has been under the FATF radar for its complicity towards terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) among others. In addition, terrorists like Hafiz Saeed are regularly seen ranting anti-India rhetoric and collecting so-called donations.

The FATF recently gave a stern message to Pakistan to expedite its action plan for curbing terror financing by October or face the prospect of getting blacklisted, which could aggravate problems for its stagnant economy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing Indian-Americans at Howdy Modi event in Houston, Texas on September 22.&nbsp;

In a major diplomatic development, President Donald Trump will also attend the event which will celebrate&nbsp;the contributions of Indian-Americans.&nbsp;The diaspora summit is being organised by the Texas India Forum.&nbsp;

It is a big diplomatic boost for India and shows the proximity between the two leaders. Trump's participation also symbolises that the ties between India and the US remain intact and strategic partnership continues to grow despite the countries facing some tensions like the trade conflict.

Trump and Modi are expected to discuss ways to deepen the energy and trade ties between the world's oldest and largest democracies

It will also be a good opportunity for Trump to interact with a strong crowd of over 50,000 Indian-Americans who are an influential voter base in the US.

Elections are due in the US in 2020 and Texas is estimated to have more than 2.5 lakh Indian-Americans.&nbsp;

It also means clear support to India on the Kashmir issue. Earlier at G7 Summit in August, Trump had clarified that the US considers Kashmir a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan.

This will certainly give jitters to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan who had claimed a victory after Trump on July 22 had announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to meditate.&nbsp;

Pakistan stands isolated on the global front. Ignoring Khan's appeal, Islamic countries have also maintained that Kashmir is India's integral issue. Left with no choice, Imran Khan and his ministers have been threatening India with a Nuclear War.

The event will give&nbsp;a clear message to Pakistan ahead of annual UN General Assembly session on September 27 when Modi and Imran are scheduled to address global leaders on Kasmir issue.

Trump's participation also symbolises that the ties between India and the US remain intact and strategic partnership continues to grow despite the countries facing some tensions like the trade conflict. Trump and Modi are expected to discuss ways to deepen the energy and trade ties between the world's oldest and largest democracies It will also be a good opportunity for Trump to interact with a strong crowd of over 50,000 Indian-Americans who are an influential voter base in the US. Elections are due in the US in 2020 and Texas is estimated to have more than 2.5 lakh Indian-Americans. It also means clear support to India on the Kashmir issue. Earlier at G7 Summit in August, Trump had clarified that the US considers Kashmir a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan. This will certainly give jitters to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan who had claimed a victory after Trump on July 22 had announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to meditate. Pakistan stands isolated on the global front. Ignoring Khan's appeal, Islamic countries have also maintained that Kashmir is India's integral issue. Left with no choice, Imran Khan and his ministers have been threatening India with a Nuclear War. The event will give a clear message to Pakistan ahead of annual UN General Assembly session on September 27 when Modi and Imran are scheduled to address global leaders on Kasmir issue. Pakistani national and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has expressed concern about the people of Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370 and said she has urged the United Nations to work towards peace&nbsp;and&nbsp;help Kashmiri children go back to school.

Malala is an activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate who was shot at by a gunman on her way back home from school in the Swat district in 2012.

She was targetted for speaking out about the plight of girls in her region who were banned from going to school by the Taliban.

Her concern for Kashmiris appears hypocritical as she has been tight-lipped about atrocities against minorities in her own country, Pakistan's harsh blasphemy laws and forced conversions&nbsp;of Hindu girls.

She also never spoke against the human rights violations of Baloch people. People of Balochistan have raised the issue of their "annihilation" by the Pakistani forces at the forum of UNHRC also, but Malala did not extend any support to them.

Malala has been very selective in condemning human rights abuses. Fearing the backlash, she does not speak against barbarities people have been facing in her own country.

In her recent tweets on Kashmir issue, she reiterated Pakistan state narrative. Indian nationals firmly pointed out her hypocrisy, saying she is running Pakistan's agenda on Kashmir.

Pakistan has been responding hysterically since the time Indian government scrapped Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Imran Khan and other ministers tried to portray a manipulated picture with false narratives, however, got no traction from global leaders. Even the Taliban has strongly criticised Pakistan for linking the Kashmir issue with the situation in Afghanistan.&nbsp;

Instead of fighting a social media war with India and making embarrassing statements, Malala, Pakistani leaders and need to accept the reality on Kashmir and solve their own issues.

Diplomatic tension between Bangladesh and Pakistan intensified on Monday as Dhaka halted issuing&nbsp;visa to its nationals, sources reported to WION.

Pakistani nationals are not being issued a visa for the past seven days now, sources said. Visa section of Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad is also closed since last Monday.

The diplomatic rift between Bangladesh and Pakistan is on the rise since last year when Bangladesh denied a visa to the Pakistan High Commissioner. &nbsp;

It also didn't give agreement to the new nominated Pakistani High Commissioner, Saqlain Syedah, for over a year now, sources in Pakistan's foreign ministry said.

Till now, Dhaka officials have neither accepted nor rejected the new high commissioner's nomination. The post has been vacant since March 2018.

In October, Pakistan's foreign ministry had made a suggestion to Prime Minister Imran Khan, that since diplomacy is on a reciprocity basis, and Pakistani mission in Dhaka is being run by a consular level officer, it was recommended to downgrade the Bangladeshi mission in Islamabad as well, sources said.

However, PM Imran Khan did not pay any heed to the recommendation, sources added.

Diplomatic negotiations between the two countries are at a standstill since a few years now over Dhaka alleging Pakistani High Commission of financing terrorist activities in the country.

Foreign secretary-level talks haven’t taken place between two in the past four years now.

Earlier this month it was reported, amid a diplomatic rift, Pakistan also didn't give visa extension to Bangladesh High Commission's press consular.

Mohammad Iqbal Hussain’s visa duration for a stay in Pakistan expired in March this year. He had applied for the extension for him and his daughter for a year in January.

Pakistan's ministry of foreign affairs had also written to Bangladeshi High Commission assuring them that the process has been initiated and that they have written to concerned institutions over the matter.

Despite four months being passed, Pakistan interior ministry yet to give a visa extension to Iqbal Hussain.

Pakistan could lose in a conventional war with India which could then be consequential in view that the two neighbouring countries are nuclear-armed, country's Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Saturday.

In an exclusive interview to Al Jazeera, Khan said, "I am clear that when two nuclear-armed countries fight a conventional war, there is every possibility of it ending in a nuclear war.

If I say Pakistan, God forbid, and in a conventional war, and we are losing, and if a country is stuck between two choices, either you surrender or fight to the death for your freedom.

"I know Pakistan will fight to the death for freedom (and) when a nuclear-armed country fights to the death, there are consequences," he added.

He said that it was in consideration of these consequences that Pakistan approached the United Nations and other international forum&nbsp;on the Kashmir issue.

"So that's why we have approached the United Nations, we are approaching every international forum, that they must act right now because this is a potential disaster that would go way beyond the Indian subcontinent," said Khan.

Khan ruled out the possibility of dialogue with India in the aftermath of the country's decision to abrogate Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Islamabad has downgraded its diplomatic ties and suspended bilateral trade with India as a way to remonstrate.

India has maintained that the move on Kashmir is its "internal matter",&nbsp;a stance that has been supported by many countries&nbsp;and asked Pakistan to review these decisions so that normal channels for diplomatic communications are preserved.
