Pakistan wished for the talks to resume "to smooth the path for durable, long-lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan", Qureshi was quoted as saying in a statement.

"War is not a solution to any problem. Talks are the only and positive solution to establish peace in Afghanistan," he added.

The delegation landed in Islamabad on Wednesday, hours after the United States Special Envoy for Afghan Peace Zalmay Khalilzad reached Islamabad.

On September 22, Khalilzad had called upon Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was in America then and had discussed the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and the apparent dissolution of the Afghan peace process

Pakistan's Business Community Presses The Panic Button, Seek Army Chief Gen. Bajwa's Help Pakistan's economy has been going through a serious crisis for some time. Now, in a desperate attempt, the country's business community have sought the help for Army Chief Gen. Bajwa. The sequence of events indicate the weakening of Imran Khan's grip on power. @Palkisu summarises

Gravitas: Pakistan's Economy In Crisis: Businessmen Ask Gen Bajwa For Help

Pakistan's Army Runs The Country's Economy The long arm of the Pakistan army is not just restricted to its politics, it extends to economy as well. From petrol pumps, to industrial pumps, to even schools, the army controls most sectors of the country's economy. This report explores.

Mahatma Gandhi had a "unique ability" to become a bridge between some of the greatest contradictions in human society and he continues to give courage to millions globally, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary.

The most trusted institution, the most powerful institution in pakistan is its army. In fact, political succession does not happen through democratic processes along in Pakistan.

Since 1947, Pakistan has spent the bulk of its existence under army rule.

Despite that dodgy tradition, when the business community goes to Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa for ideas instead of the elected prime minister, it gives rise to some serious questions.

Is Pakistan a country with an army? Or is Pakistan an army with a country?

On WION Edit, we will specifically explore these questions in the context of the economy. When Imran Khan came to power, he came on two tall promises.

1, Rooting out corruption
2, Ushering in an era of economic growth

It is safe to say that the Pakistan Prime Minister has failed on both counts in a spectacular fashion. But still, can General Bajwa revive the economy?

Here, we have to understand the political dynamics in Pakistan.

Pakistan's army runs the country's economy. The Fauji Foundation is the second-largest conglomerate in Pakistan. It controls everything from the food sector to energy. And guess who runs it - the army

Decades of army rule have eroded democratic institutions in Islamabad. Besides General Bajwa always held more power than Imran khan.

Imran Khan calls himself the ambassador of Kashmir. In truth, he is just a spokesperson of the Pakistani army.

So would things change now, given that General Bajwa looks set to take economic decisions?

The straight-forward answer is 'no', not a chance.

Pakistan's economic troubles run deep and are structural. Right now, Pakistan is running on external money and debt is soaring.

And Imran Khan has no clue, no say, and general Bajwa will continue to protect the army's interests. Already, he has linked the economy with national security.

Unless Pakistan gets a semblance of democracy, the welfare measures will not reach the common man. With a more prominent role for General Bajwa, Pakistan's sham-democracy is unlikely to deliver growth.

Unless public investment and private investment picks up, unless wealth creation is prioritised, Pakistan's economic problems will continue.

And when you are an army with a country, the country will be forced to serve the needs of the army and not vice versa.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is likely to visit the historic city of Mahabalipuram in Chennai for his second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week.

India is yet to formally announce the dates of the meeting.

Meanwhile, according to reports, China will host Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on October 8, which comes ahead of the summit between Modi and Jinping.

This will be Khan's third visit to China after assuming office.

From early this year, India and China were in touch for the second informal summit between Modi and Xi.

In August, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also visited China to prepare the ground for the second informal summit between the two leaders.

Modi and Xi had met last year in Wuhan, China, for an informal summit in order to deepen bilateral cooperation.

That meeting came following the 73-day standoff in Bhutan's Doklam plateau in 2017, which strained bilateral ties between the two countries.

At Wuhan, Modi had expressed hope that such informal summits would become a tradition between the two countries.

Turkey To Build Four Corvettes For Pakistan As President Erdogan Prioritises Ties With Pakistan. In 2017, when Turkey's President Erdogan visited India, India and Turkey defined their ties as a 'stable and friendly' partnership. Two years later, Turkey is singing a different tune. First Erdogan took the pro-Pakistan position on Kashmir issue, now Turkey is building a warship for Pakistan. Palki explains.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday appreciated the way India effectively unveiled its vision for lasting peace and development for humanity at the United Nations General Secretary (UNGA) and hit out at Pakistan for its mindset of 'violence, terrorism and warmongering for short-sighted vested interests'.

Addressing a gathering after presenting the 20th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence: 2019 to Plant Scientist Dr Manju Sharma, Naidu said that the recent session of UNGA presented a clear choice between peaceful coexistence and pursuit of conflicts bordering on perversion.

"Humanity had to choose the model of statesmanship showcased by India to march on the path of peaceful development, rather than the brinkmanship-model that has no concern for the larger good of humanity," the vice president said in an apparent attack on Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on his speech at UNGA.

Complimenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking a firm and dignified stand against Pakistan's "highly condemnable acts", Naidu said that PM Modi championed the cause of peace and prosperity for the larger good.

"It brought out in focus two diametrically opposite visions, statesmanship soaring high in the statement of PM Modi and its opposite of brinkmanship stooping too low," the Vice President said.

Asserting that terrorism was the enemy of mankind and that those who aid and abet terror and violence must be isolated, he said that India continued to firmly adhere to its values of peace, in spite of grave provocation from the neighbour who unabashedly aids and abets terrorism.

Pointing out that India, since time immemorial has always embraced the values of peace, tolerance, brotherhood and harmony, the Vice President said that India has handled the recent escalation of tensions with remarkable restraint, grace, and poise.

Paying his tributes to Lal Bahadur Shashtri, Naidu said that tall leaders like him firmly believed that peace was the first step to prosperity.

He said that their belief, which has deep roots in Indian philosophy, helped them handle and defuse extraordinarily volatile situations with ease and poise.

Referring to Shastri's address to the nation during the Indo-Pak war in 1965, the Vice President said that he proposed peaceful coexistence to bring an end to conflicts.

Asserting that a subcontinent at peace would benefit all and that constant strife, hostility, conflict and terror drag us all down, Naidu said that Shastri Ji's words serve as a guiding light in our efforts to bring peace and prosperity to the sub-continent.

The Vice President asked the youngsters to learn about the exemplary life of Lal Bahadur Shastri and draw inspiration from it to serve the nation with zeal and passion.

"Prime Minister Khan’s threat of unleashing nuclear devastation qualifies as brinksmanship, not statesmanship... his justification of terrorism was brazen and incendiary," Maitra said, asking the Pak PM to address the following questions:

Khan's UNGA speech

Pakistan at UNGA seemed to have taken a cue from India as Pak PM brushed on the issue of climate change and urged countries with maximum greenhouse emission to take a call on the situation. Khan's speech quickly took a turn when he began speaking on Islamophobia and ended up warning of nuclear war at the global forum.

A last-ditch effort was made to internalise the Kashmir issue as Khan talked about minority and human rights while turning a blind eye to the state of minorities in his country and ignoring the plight of Uighurs in China.

Pak PM's speech in numbers

While PM Modi didn't even mention Pakistan in his UNGA address, Khan's speech came studded with terms like India (mentioned 16 times in his speech), Modi (12), RSS (10), Hindu (5), Balakot.
