"I know we're out of the tournament, and it's hard for the players, but at the end, this is an international game, a World Cup game so we won't take anything lightly.

"We will go out there and play for the country and play for the pride of our country, which we already did, but unfortunately, the results we can't control. Yeah, but we go out there and play like it's a World Cup game,” he continued.

In a shock move, star Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has announced his &nbsp;retirement from international cricket, effective immediately. Overlooked in the World Cup 2023 squad despite impressive shows in franchise-based T20 leagues around the globe, Imad was a guest host at one of the local TV shows during the marquee event. The lanky cricketer made his decision public via a post on social media on Friday.

"In recent days, I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career, and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket," Imad wrote on X.

"I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years - it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan.

"Each of my 121 appearances across the ODI and T20I formats was a dream come true. It's an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forwards, with new coaches and leadership incoming. I wish all involved every success, and I look forward to watching the team excel,” he added.

Imad hogged the limelight after winning the Youth World Cup in 2006 and even captained Pakistan in the same event two years later in 2008. He, however, had to wait for seven years for his first appearance in the green jersey, as his debut came in 2015, filling in for then recently suspended Saeed Ajmal in the team.

Imad made his T20I debut in 2015 when cricket resumed in the country for the first time since the 2009 Lahore attack. A year later, the Swansea-born cricketer represented Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in India.&nbsp;

Having played 121 matches for Pakistan across two formats (55 ODIs and 66 T20Is), Imad picked 44 wickets and scored 986 runs in the One-Dayers; whereas, in the shortest format, 65 wickets and hit 486 runs. Interestingly, his best bowling figures in both formats read five for 14.&nbsp;

“Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends, who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage,” he concluded.&nbsp;

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday (August 17) announced the schedule of the Men's T20 World Cup 2021 as the high-octane event will get underway from 17 October. The final clash will be in Dubai on November 14 and a reserve day is also kept aside on November 15.

Pakistan batsman Imad Wasim has said that his team will be among the favourites to win the ICC T20 World Cup as they have a big home advantage playing in UAE.&nbsp;

“UAE’s conditions will suit as it is like a home ground for us, having played there for a long period of time. This is why we are also considered as one of the favourites for the tournament. We have skillful players who can take us deep in the championship so we will try to give our 100 per cent on the field,” Wasim was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

“We have two or three good series before that [T20 World Cup] and focused on winning that so that we head into the World Cup with rhythm and confidence,” he added.

Wasim went on to reveal that he was 'disappointing'.&nbsp;

“Losing the central contract was disappointing but ups and downs, with or without reason, are part and parcel of life. It was a difficult period for me and my family but the only way out of it is to perform well on the field and that is what I’m focused on doing,” he said.

“I want to play ODI cricket and I told everyone about it too. I have only played two or three ODIs since the 2019 World Cup and I don’t know why I was dropped from the side. But that’s the decision of the selectors, coaches and captain and I have to accept it. Although, I will continue playing domestic cricket [List A] and perform to the best of my ability,” he signed off.
