The Israeli defence ministry said on Thursday it had signed an agreement to acquire 25 next-generation F-15 fighter jets from Boeing Co. It said the $5.2 billion agreement was part of a broader package of U.S. aid approved by the U.S. administration and Congress earlier this year and included an option for 25 additional aircraft. Delivery of the new F-15IA aircraft will begin in 2031, with 4-6 aircraft to be supplied annually, it said. The aircraft will be equipped with weapons systems integrated with existing Israeli weapons as well as having increased range and payloads. "These advantages will enable the Israeli Air Force to maintain its strategic superiority in addressing current and future challenges in the Middle East," the ministry said in a statement. "This F-15 squadron, alongside the third F-35 squadron procured earlier this year, represents a historic enhancement of our air power and strategic reach - capabilities that proved crucial during the current war," the director general of the defence ministry, Eyal Zamir, said in the statement. Also read: Military judge restores controversial plea deals for 9/11 terrorists Zamir said that the government has secured procurement agreements worth nearly $40 billion since the onset of the war in Gaza that began Oct. 7, 2023. "While focusing on immediate needs for advanced weaponry and ammunition at unprecedented levels, we're simultaneously investing in long-term strategic capabilities," he said. For Boeing, the F-15 agreement is the second major deal this year. In August, flag carrier El Al Israel Airlines, signed a deal with Boeing for the purchase of up to 31 737 MAX aircraft worth as much as $2.5 billion, beating out rival Airbus. Ido Nehushtan, president of Boeing Israel, said the company's relationship dates back to Israel's establishment and "will continue working with the U.S. and Israeli governments to deliver the advanced F-15IA aircraft through standard military procurement channels." Israel inks $5.2 billion deal with Boeing for next-gen F-15 jets

Israel's military said its air force struck the intelligence headquarters of Hezbollah's Syrian branch in a strike on Damascus on Monday, an attack a war monitor said killed two people.

It was a rare acknowledgement by Israeli authorities of an attack against Syria.

The military has intensified its strikes on targets in Syria since launching its war against Hezbollah in neighbouring Lebanon more than a month ago.

Warplanes "conducted an aerial operation and struck Hezbollah terror targets belonging to Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters in Syria", the military said in a statement.

The Syria branch "includes an independent intelligence gathering, coordination, and assessment network", the military said, adding that the attack aimed to degrade Hezbollah's intelligence capabilities.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said Israeli strikes killed two Hezbollah members near the Sayyeda Zeinab area south of Damascus, home to a Shiite sanctuary guarded by pro-Iran groups.

The strikes hit a house "used by members of Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard" at a farm, the Observatory said.

Syria's foreign ministry condemned the attack, saying it targeted "civilian areas" south of Damascus and caused significant material damage.

It did not refer to casualties.

Syrian state media said the strike occurred at approximately 5:18 pm (14:15 GMT) and came "from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights".

Mehdi Mahfouz, a 34-year-old resident of the area, said he "heard three successive explosions, one of which was very strong".

"Then I saw a large black cloud of smoke rising," Mahfouz added.

The blasts were heard in the neighbouring Jaramana suburb of Damascus, an AFP photographer said, as ambulances headed to the area.

Since the Syrian civil war began in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes there, mainly targeting army positions and Iran-backed fighters including from Hezbollah.

West Asia crisis: Israel says it struck Hezbollah intel HQ in Syria

Israeli Navy Commandos consisting of more than 25 soldiers claimed to carry out a landing operation on the Batroun coast in northern Lebanon and captured Imad Amhaz, a senior member of Hezbollah's naval force on November 2. The Israeli commandos arrived and departed in speedboats.

A special unit landed on Al-Batroun beach in northern Lebanon on Saturday, entered a nearby cabin, and abducted the alleged senior Hezbollah figure from its naval unit, said multiple news reports citing Arab media.

Along with the operation to capture Amhaz, the Shayetet 13 was also deployed in southern Lebanon to carry out a raid on an underground Hezbollah compound filled with weapons.

Amhaz's arrest came the same day Israeli military claimed it killed a top Hezbollah commander Abu Ali Rida.

Deputy chief of Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force killed in Israeli airstrikes: IDF

Israeli soldiers captured around 100 suspected Hamas militants during a raid in Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza, the military said on Monday.

Gaza health officials and Hamas have denied any militant presence at the hospital, which Israeli forces stormed on Friday and left on Saturday.

"The soldiers apprehended approximately 100 terrorists from the compound, including terrorists who attempted to escape during the evacuation of civilians. Inside the hospital, they found weapons, terror funds, and intelligence documents," the military said.

Gaza's health ministry said the troops had detained dozens of male medical staffers and damaged the hospital, which had already been struggling to operate with heavy Israeli raids in the area.

"A few of the fully identified terrorists disguised themselves as medical staff so we didn't have any alternative but to check the medical staff as well," a military official told journalists in an online briefing.

Footage circulated by Gaza's health ministry on Saturday - which Reuters could not immediately verify - showed damage to several buildings after the Israeli forces withdrew.

The military official said that troops had caused limited damage to the hospital when entering it and that soldiers also had to destroy what he described as "dual use" equipment, like oxygen tanks, which if detonated could have harmed anyone at the complex.

Medical staffers refused to evacuate the hospital or leave their patients unattended. Hundreds of displaced Palestinians had also been sheltering there.

"They evacuated all those who were sheltering here...They separated men from women and made two queues, it was very humiliating for our men since they took them without clothes and nothing to cover with," said Mayssoun Alian, a hospital nurse.

The military official said that suspected Hamas men arrested were stripped to check them for weapons. "After checking them we supplied them with clothes," he said.

Gaza medics said at least two children had died inside the intensive care unit after Israeli fire hit the generators and oxygen station in the facility on Friday.

The military said civilians at the hospital were kept safe, despite heavy fighting near the complex. Fuel, medical equipment and blood units had been provided to the hospital and electricity and oxygen supply had been ensured, it said.

IDF captures 100 Hamas militants from north Gaza hospital, military says

Gaza's civil defence agency said Tuesday that an overnight Israeli air strike killed 93 people in a residential building in the northern district of Beit Lahia.

"The number of martyrs in the massacre of the Abu Nasr family home in Beit Lahia has risen to 93 martyrs, and about 40 are still missing under the rubble," agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP in an updated toll.

The Israeli military said it was "looking into the reports".

"The explosion happened at night and I first thought it was shelling, but when I went out after sunrise I saw people pulling bodies, limbs and the wounded from under the rubble," said Rabie al-Shandagly, 30, who had taken refuge in a nearby school in Beit Lahia.

"Most of the victims are women and children, and people are trying to save the injured, but there are no hospitals or proper medical care," he told AFP.

On Tuesday, Palestinians searched through the rubble of the building and removed the dead, while others mourned over the bodies of relatives.

In one AFP image, a charred body with long hair hung out of a window of the building in Beit Lahia.

The bodies of 15 people killed in the strike were brought to Kamal Adwan Hospital, its director Hussam Abu Safia told AFP.

He said 35 wounded people, most of them children, were being treated at the hospital.

"We are still receiving a number of martyrs and wounded," Safia said, adding that the hospital was struggling to treat patients due to a lack of staff and medicines.

"There is nothing left in the Kamal Adwan Hospital except first aid materials after the army arrested our medical team and workers when they invaded the hospital during the military operation in Jabalia," Safia said.

Last week, the Gaza health ministry said Israeli troops had stormed the hospital, while the Israeli military said it was operating around it.

"The enemy has committed another horrific massacre against our people, and northern Gaza is being subjected to a campaign of ethnic cleansing and systematic displacement," Hamas said in a statement condemning the Beit Lahia attack.

His elimination is a clear message to the families of the fallen and abducted – we are doing everything and will continue to do it. Residents of Gaza, the end of the man who killed you in a disaster has arrived, go out with the kidnapped, free them and surrender,” Gallant said in a video message on X. Who was Yahya Sinwar? Yahya Sinwar, aged 62, orchestrated the October 7 attack on Israel and took on the role of Hamas leader in August, following the death of Ismail Haniyeh, his predecessor, in an explosion in Iran. Sinwar was born in 1962 in Khan Younis, a refugee camp in Gaza. He was one of the early members of Hamas, which was founded in 1987. He later took charge of the group’s security division, which focused on eliminating individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel. In the early 1980s, Sinwar was frequently arrested by Israeli authorities for his involvement in protests against Israel, particularly during his time at the Islamic University in Gaza. Upon completing his studies, he established a network of fighters trained for armed resistance against Israel. This group eventually became the Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas. During his 23 years in Israeli prison, Sinwar learned Hebrew and developed a deep understanding of Israel's political landscape. In 2011, he was released as part of a prisoner swap that saw Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit being freed by Hamas. After returning to Gaza, Sinwar quickly rose within the ranks of the Palestinian militant group. He was elected to the group’s political bureau in 2012 and tasked with coordinating with the Qassam Brigades. In 2015, the United States designated him as a “specially designated global terrorist.” (With inputs from agencies) Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing developments on the Israel-Palestine conflict after the Hamas attacks. UNIFIL, though it has 'interim' in its name, is one of the oldest and most longstanding peacekeeping deployments of the UN in the world.

Israel's attacks on UN peacekeepers could be 'war crime'. What's United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly condemned the United Nations following its criticism of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The UN expressed concerns over the IDF’s recent military actions, accusing them of potential human rights violations. In response, Netanyahu denounced the UN for what he termed biased and unfair treatment of Israel, emphasizing the country's right to defend itself against terrorism and threats to its security. The exchange highlights the growing tensions between Israel and international bodies regarding the ongoing conflict.

West Asia crisis: IDF kills two Hezbollah commanders, targets weapons cache in Lebanon strikes

West Asia crisis: Hezbollah’s HQ commander Suhail Hussein killed in Beirut strikes, claims IDF

A fresh rocket barrage was launched toward the northern Israeli city of Haifa just moments ago, with sirens sounding across the city and nearby towns. This attack follows a day of intense bombardment, during which approximately 85 rockets were fired at Haifa in what has been the largest barrage on the city since the conflict began. The renewed assault comes shortly after Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, delivered a televised address, asserting that despite the “painful blows” inflicted by Israel in recent weeks, the Iran-backed group’s military capabilities remain intact. This marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, with tensions continuing to rise across the region.
