Ngidi has had injury issues having missed IPL due to a side strain while playing a home series against Sri Lanka.

Ngidi's ideal replacement should be Dale Steyn provided he gets fit in time. Steyn bowled a couple of overs in the nets but there is still no clarity on his availability for the India game.

If Steyn doesn't make it, all-rounder Chris Morris could possibly be an ideal replacement candidate.

There was however some positive news for the Proteas as senior batsman Hashim Amla seems to have recovered from the concussions suffered after being hit in the helmet by Jofra Archer.

"The plan is to have him ready for the India game in Southampton. His initial reports on concussion was inconclusive. The next test showed he could bat. However he felt some symptoms and was rested for the Bangladesh game," Moosajee said.

The top four teams from the new round-robin format qualify for the semi-finals and defeat against India on Wednesday could also potentially affect South Africa's net run rate, which will decide the final standings if teams are tied on points and wins.

"It doesn't get any easier though against India but it's their first game and our third, so maybe that could give us the edge we need," Kallis added.

"They've not played for a week and maybe there will be some first game nerves, whereas we're settled.

"Strange things happen in this sport and if we can get a win then I think we can go on a streak and we are still good enough to be a contender."

Sunil Chhetri-led Indian football team has wished good luck to&nbsp;the Indian cricket team for the World Cup 2019, which is underway in England and Wales.&nbsp;

Virat Kohli-led side will open their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5 at Southampton's Rose Bowl.&nbsp;

Apart from Chhetri, veteran defender Sandesh Jhingan, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, players of Indian women football team also extended their wishes.&nbsp;

The likes of Dalima Chhibber and Aditi Chauhan wished the Indian cricket team, which is attending the practice sessions for their campaign opener.&nbsp;

Blue Tigers shared a video compilation of all players, wishing the Indian cricket team good luck.&nbsp;

"I wish our Indian cricket team very well for the World Cup. I’m sure you guys will do very well and bring the cup home," said Jhingan

"I wish you all the very best. We’re pretty sure you will win it for us. Just play with your heart and bring the cup home," said keeper Gurpreet Singh.

The Indian football team is currently touring Thailand to play the King's Cup and will begin its campaign against Curacao on the opening day, which is June 5.&nbsp;

The addition of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=jofra+archer">Jofra Archer</a> in the side allows England to pick up wickets at any stage of an innings during the World Cup, former captain Kevin Pietersen has said.

Archer's World Cup debut, where he picked up three wickets in England's 104-run victory over South Africa, was among the early tournament highlights after he was fast-tracked into the hosts' one-day international setup.

The Barbados-born quick is now expected to lead the pace attack with Mark Wood when they take on Pakistan in their second match later on Monday.

"The addition of Jofra Archer to that setup gives England the capabilities to take wickets from overs one to 50," Pietersen told Sky Sports.

"Occasionally they might get a couple of wickets with the new ball and then try and back (leg-spinner Adil) Rashid to get wickets. If Rashid doesn't get any wickets in the middle overs then they struggle.

"Archer can knock over the top order of every single team. He can then come in the middle of the innings and get a couple of wickets from short-pitched deliveries and then at the death he is a fantastic bowler."

Archer impressed Pietersen during the Big Bash Twenty20 league in Australia where he picked up 35 wickets in 28 games for Hobart Hurricanes.

The 24-year-old is yet to make his test debut and Pietersen backed him to make England's squad to team up with veteran fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad when they take on Australia in the Ashes series, which begins in August.

"Having faced him, having played with him in Australia in the Big Bash, he is something to be looked after just because of the pace and bounce," Pietersen added. "He has the ability to take wickets all the way throughout the innings.

Pakistan have lost their past ten one-day internationals including a 5-0 whitewash by Australia and 4-0 thumping by England, and their problems were further compounded when they went down to outsiders Afghanistan by three wickets in a warm-up match.&nbsp;

But skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed hopes his side will draw inspiration from when they were in a similar position in 2017.&nbsp;

"We will seek inspiration from our Champions Trophy win because then also we were losing and then lifted ourselves at the right time to win the trophy," Sarfaraz told AFP ahead of the game in Nottingham.&nbsp;

Pakistan had lost 4-1 in Australia before the tournament and arch-rivals India whipped them by 124 runs in the opening game of the Trophy.&nbsp;

But Pakistan then beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and England on their way to the final, where they thumped India by 180 runs.&nbsp;

"The boys are motivated and are eager to put these losses behind them and by playing in England for a month we are well prepared and you will hopefully see us doing well," said Sarfaraz, one of Pakistan's only two survivors from the 2015 World Cup, with left-handed batsman Haris Sohail the other.&nbsp;

Sarfaraz will also hope his spearhead Mohammad Amir -- playing his first World Cup after missing the 2011 and 2015 editions due to a spot-fixing ban -- will dismantle the West Indies top order boasting hard-hitting opener Chris Gayle and the impressive Shai Hope.&nbsp;

"We know Amir is an impact bowler and he knows his responsibilities and I am sure he will lift his bowling and get us early wickets," said Sarfaraz of Amir, who recovered from chickenpox in time to get a World Cup call after being left out of the preliminary squad.

Andre Russell smashed a 13-ball 42 with four sixes and then took three wickets as Pakistan were blown away.&nbsp;

That prompted all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite to say his team can break the 500-barrier.&nbsp;

"If you are asking me if we are capable of it, definitely we are," Brathwaite said. "However, in a real game, you probably won't have the depth in batting at 10 and 11 that we had today. So you need to be a little real about the target."&nbsp;

"My target is to take wickets and be a third-time lucky in England after winning the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Twenty20 and Champions Trophy," said the paceman, recalling Pakistan's triumphs in England in 2009 and 2017.&nbsp;

Amir said Pakistan had positive memories of playing in England, which they hoped to take into the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup.&nbsp;

"Our triumph in the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Twenty20 was excellent and then the Champions Trophy -- the impact of those wins are with us and the amount of support we get in the UK is extraordinary, so naturally we will like to match those.&nbsp;

Amir believes talk of flat tracks and big scores at the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;are exaggerated.

"People have made a mountain out of a molehill that flat tracks will do this and that. I agree that it's a challenge for bowlers but you need to swing the ball and if it's not happening then you have to rely on your variations.&nbsp;

"I don't get bogged down by the hype on flat tracks."

'Brilliant' Southgate

The England cricket squad and backroom staff have spent time with England football manager Gareth Southgate, whose side revitalised interest and affection in the national team on their way to the semi-finals of last year's soccer&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;in Russia.

"We did do a session with Gareth, it was brilliant," recalled Morgan.

"He got up and talked about his journey with the team in and around the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup, but in the build-up, as well, and how they built bigger expectations and came together more as a group.&nbsp;

"I think everybody within the room listening who has been involved with our team over the last four years recognised that -- we started exactly where they did. Recognised what had happened in the past, drawn a line under it, tried to do things differently and move forward and enjoyed the challenge of that."

But the expectations surrounding England's men's football and cricket teams are wide apart, with Morgan saying his side had received a very different reaction when they were beaten by Pakistan in the 2017 semi-finals of the one-day Champions Trophy in Cardiff.

"It's amazing. He (Southgate) did brilliantly. Got to the semi-final and everybody says it's great. We got knocked out of the Champions Trophy semi-final, and we're crap," added Morgan to laughter from the assembled media.

England may have suffered several injury scares in recent weeks, including his own dislocated finger, but Morgan said all of his 15-man squad were available to face the Proteas at the Oval.

"We've no injury concerns and we have a full bill of health for tomorrow," he said.

With a round-robin group stage in prospect, Morgan had no time for talk of making a statement against South Africa.

"A win under any circumstances," he said when asked what success would look like at the Oval on Thursday.

Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed a century in the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ms-dhoni-kl-rahul-hit-tons-as-india-beat-bangladesh-in-world-cup-warm-up-222416">World Cup warm-up match</a> against Bangladesh at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Dhoni reached his century off 73 balls and went on to score 113 before losing his wicket to left-arm spinner Shakib Al Hasan in the final over.

But it was not his century that grabbed the attention of spectators as he is making headlines when he changed the fielder's position of the opposition team.&nbsp;

While batting in the 40th over of the Indian innings, Dhoni stopped Bangladesh leg-spinner Sabbir Rahman on his tracks and asked him to move the square-leg fielder towards his left.&nbsp;

The fun part, Sabbir Rahman moved the fielder as advised by Dhoni without even asking his captain Masrafe Mortaza.

Bangladesh young pacer Mohammad Saifuddin bowled brilliantly to take the wicket of Indian skipper Virat Kohli in the warm-up match on Tuesday.&nbsp;&nbsp;

With the help of an inch-perfect yorker, Saifuddin dismissed Kohli, who was playing at the score 47.&nbsp;

Virat Kohli failed to judge the yorker and lost his wicket when the ball crashed the leg stump after touching his pad.&nbsp;

After taking Virat's wicket, Saifuddin performed an army-salute-like gesture in celebration.&nbsp;

Hopes are pinned on a born-again West Indies to relive their glory days but skipper Jason Holder says the upcoming World Cup is "a case of creating our own legacy".

Windies have a proud history at the World Cup, winning the first two editions of the tournament and making the final of the third. After struggling for nearly two decades, a few stunning wins against England recently lifted their spirits.

"Not personally," Holder told the ICC when asked if he feels pressurised to re-establish their dominance, adding, "It's just a case of us creating our own legacy.

"We obviously know our history what the past players have done. We will take it stage by stage, step by step, not get too far ahead of ourselves." The presence of big players such as Andre Russell and Chris Gayle have helped, acknowledged the 27-year-old skipper.

"Guys like Andre Russell make it easy for me, they tend to give a lot of support. I can't thank them enough for the support they have given me, I know they continue to rally behind me.

"It's important for us to continue to build as a group. It's a relatively young side and we have got one or two experienced heads in the cam it's a good mix."

He has rated hosts England as the favourites in the showpiece.

"England are the number one side in the world for good reason, you now they are playing some very good cricket, lot of hype around them, they have obviously got the home advantage.

"I guess got to give them respect being the number side in the world ... All teams are practically equally matched, they are well-balanced sides, sides that can defeat anyone on any particular day.

"We have just got to take it game by game, give everyone the respect they deserve and we will have to execute our plans," Holder said.

"It's a dream," opener Evin Lewis was quoted as saying by the International Cricket Council's website when asked about the prospect of West Indies lifting the title.

David Warner, Steve Smith booed by crowd in warm-up match against England

KL Rahul knows exactly what it would mean to win this year's&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;in England, having seen for himself what a 2011 triumph on home soil meant to his fellow Indians.

Eight years ago, Rahul was a teenager watching television in a Bangalore bar as Gautam Gambhir's 97 and then-captain MS Dhoni's 91 not out saw India beat Sri Lanka in the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;final in Mumbai. &nbsp;

"When the game was over it was absolute chaos. The roads were blocked, everybody left their homes and was on the road celebrating," Rahul said Friday as he recalled the aftermath of India's second&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;triumph.

"It was an unbelievable experience to see so many people forgetting about their worries. Whatever they had going on in their lives, they were just so, so happy India had won the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup.

"It was even bigger because we won it at home in India -- it brought billions of people together and brought so much joy."

Rahul was already a first-class cricketer but said watching the match made him want to focus more.

"I knew what a&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;could do to the country, how big it is and how valuable it is to be part of a&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;dream," he said.

"To be here after eight years representing my country means the&nbsp;world&nbsp;to me. I'm looking forward to hopefully inspiring billions of people again and to win the&nbsp;WorldCup&nbsp;would be the icing on the cake."

Now the 27-year-old Rahul finds himself in the same side as Dhoni and fellow 2011 winner Virat Kohli, the star batsman who has succeeded the wicket-keeper as India captain.

And he said the current side had the talent to equal the achievement of Kapil Dev's celebrated team in 1983 by winning a&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;in England.

"To be part of this team is incredible,” Rahul said. "It's not just MS and Virat, there are so many other talented individuals -- Rohit (Sharma) and Shikhar (Dhawan) and Jasprit (Bumrah), who is the most feared bowler in&nbsp;world&nbsp;cricket right now.

Kohli added: "And the way he has come through in the IPL over the last couple of years, I have seen him and he's played all around the world and done well so there's a good reason why he's been fast-tracked into playing for England in a tournament like the World Cup.

Spin is expected to play a far bigger role in England, particularly with warm weather forecast for the early summer, so Maxwell can see himself playing a bigger role behind specialist spinners Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa.

At England's compact cricket grounds, that will mean avoiding getting "hit for six most of the time," Maxwell said at training in Southampton.

"For me I suppose, a lot of the time that I bowl, I just try to limit the boundary balls," he added.

"As long as I'm doing that, if they hit some good shots off my bowling I'm not too fazed.

"If I'm limiting the boundary balls and giving myself the best chance to squeeze a few dot balls, bowl a couple of tight overs, it might create a bit of pressure at the other end."

Maxwell bowled plenty of overs in the United Arab Emirates against Pakistan and away to India in recent months as Aaron Finch's side claimed confidence-building series victories.

He gave up the chance of a rich Indian Premier League deal to warm up for the World Cup with England county side Lancashire.

In six one-day matches with Lancashire, he managed a top score of only 35 with the bat but took wickets in every game bar one.

"To have that continue into my time at Lancashire, where I got plenty of time at the bowling crease, you get that rhythm, you get that feel of the ball coming out consistently," he said.

"There have been two or three guys who have played special innings. If you think of Mosaddek, for example, he is a guy now who is going to keep everybody on their toes. That`s the depth of the squad and he might not play, and if he doesn`t, then what a great position we have. "The lack of potency of our frontline bowlers in the recent ODI series meant that a change was needed. In addition, we now know that we will encounter batting wickets throughout the World Cup campaign," Chief Selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq said.

"The combination of these elements, meant that we believed right now, utilising the World Cup experience and knowledge of Wahab was the correct choice," he said.&nbsp;

"Wahab has been training and playing club cricket, and the player of his calibre will not face much problem in adapting and adjusting to the gruelling demands of the World Cup," Inzamam said.

On the exclusion of Abid Ali, Inzamam said: "It was not an easy decision to leave him out particularly after he got only one opportunity on the tour. But, he was our third choice opener. After both struck early form, we preferred Asif Ali as he brings firepower to the team that can strengthen our chances in the tournament," the Chief Selector said.

"There's a reason why we want the guys to play freely - because we don't want them to have a fear of failure, which is what the World Cup is for some of them. Our success in England over the next couple of months depends on how well we release that aspect of our play - we need that for the team to be at our best. Each player needs to find out his own strengths," he added.&nbsp;

The 34-year-old also said that the team would go with the best possible playing XI in every match, hinting that Hashim Amla's form in the warm-up matches will play a key role in his selection in the playing XI in the first match against England.&nbsp;

"In terms of team selection, that's a call we will make when we get to that first game. We have two warm-up games. Generally, we want to pick on form. If we believe Hash Amla is the guy with the best form for the first game, then he will be picked.
