Leonardo DiCaprio will star in a movie set around the Charles Manson murders, Hollywood entertainment publications reported on Friday, but he will not play the role of the American cult leader.

DiCaprio will instead take the part of an ageing, out-of-work actor in the as-yet-untitled movie being produced and directed by Oscar-winner Quentin Tarantino, Variety and Deadline.com said.

Plot details have not been released but Tarantino said in November that it was not a biographical movie but a story set during the summer of 1969 when a string of gruesome killings in Southern California were carried out by Manson&#39;s followers.

Manson, one of the 20th century&#39;s most notorious criminals, died in November at the age of 83. He had been serving a life sentence for ordering the murders of nine people including actress Sharon Tate.

The Sony Pictures movie is to be released on August&nbsp;9, 2019, exactly 50 years after Tate and four friends were stabbed or shot dead.

Deadline and Variety said that Australian actress Margot Robbie has been asked to play Sharon Tate. Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Al Pacino are also rumoured to be interested or are being sought, for the movie.

Sony Pictures, part of Sony Corp, did not return a request for comment on the casting.

The movie will be the first Tarantino film to be released without the Weinstein Company following allegations by more than 70 women of sexual misconduct against its former chief executive Harvey Weinstein.&nbsp;

Weinstein, who has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone, was fired last November and his independent production company is currently up for sale.

Tuesday night dinner became chaotic for disgraced Hollywood film mogul <a href="http://www.wionews.com/videos/weinsteins-a-predator-not-a-sex-addict-says-actress-emma-thompson-5959" target="_blank">Harvey Weinstein</a> when a diner slapped him while the former was spotted eating with a friend.&nbsp;

Some very powerful women in the entertainment industry created Time&rsquo;s Up, but this is not about personal gain &ndash; they are using their status to help the disempowered. Time&rsquo;s Up is all about high profile women using their privilege to highlight and counter sexual discrimination against all women in employment, whatever industry they are in.

The movement is the work of more than 300 female professionals from the fields of television, film and theatre, including producers, actresses, writers and directors. Just a selection of the starry names leading and contributing to the initiative are Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Ashley Judd, America Ferrera, Rashida Jones, Selena Gomez, Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, Eva Longoria and Ellen Page, as well as Donna Langley, the chairwoman of Universal Pictures, and top lawyers Nina L. Shaw and Tina Tchen. As the days have gone on, more notable women have been publicly adding their names to the campaign and contributing to the fund, too, using the Twitter hashtag #TIMESUP.

Hollywood&rsquo;s feminists have previously been accused of representing an elitist group, who are far removed from the struggles of ordinary, less glamorous women. The Time&rsquo;s Up movement is a serious attempt to counter these accusations through showing solidarity with working women of all backgrounds and ethnicities.

Their aim&nbsp;is to raise $15m for a legal defense fund that can benefit low-income victims of sexual misconduct. They also want to campaign for new legislation to protect women from harassment, and work towards gender parity at studios and talent agencies. A request has also been issued for celebrities to raise awareness by wearing black while walking the red carpet at the Golden Globe awards on January 7.

All women

The campaign&rsquo;s cross class solidarity was prompted by a letter of support from the predominantly Latina Alianza Nacional de Campesinas. This national female farm workers organisation wrote to the women of Hollywood who had spoken out against sexual abuse following allegations against Harvey Weinstein and others.

In a moving section of their letter, the farm workers wrote:

We do not work under bright stage lights or on the big screen. We work in the shadows of society in <a href="http://time.com/3599468/food-chains-farm-eva-longoria-eric-schlosser/">isolated fields and packinghouses</a> that are out of sight and out of mind for most people in this country. Your job feeds souls, fills hearts and spreads joy. Our job nourishes the nation with the fruits, vegetables and other crops that we plant, pick and pack.

Even though we work in very different environments, we share a common experience of being preyed upon by individuals who have the power to <a href="http://time.com/4995946/weinstein-workplace-culture/">hire, fire, blacklist</a> and otherwise threaten our economic, physical and emotional security.

While the farm workers might be expected to level accusations of elitism against their wealthy sisters, they stood with them. Despite the enormous gulf in social and economic status, they offered their support &ndash; &ldquo;Please know that you&rsquo;re not alone. We believe and stand with you.&rdquo;

This act of solidarity clearly touched the entertainment professionals who have, through the Time&rsquo;s Up movement, taken the first concrete steps to support poor working women. The Time&rsquo;s Up letter mirrors the language used by Alianza, while intiatives like the legal defence fund are a clear demonstration that this is more than just a PR exercise:

Opinion: At Golden Globes, Hollywood is standing up for all woman workers

In a year of devastating hurricanes, ubiquitous sex assault scandals and a strikingly candid presidential Twitter account, it is little wonder that cinemagoers are turning to escapist fantasy.

With fairy tale romance &quot;The Shape of Water&quot; leading the nominations for the Golden Globes, dark farce &quot;Get Out&quot; topping critics` lists and horror movies making $1 billion at the box office, 2017 may come to be seen as the year of the genre movie.&nbsp;

Jordan Peele`s &quot;Get Out,&quot; which satirizes suburban white guilt over racial inequality in the United States, is emblematic of the rise of genre films in this year`s awards season.

It has been almost a year since its release, and most movies brought out that far ahead of Hollywood`s various prize-giving ceremonies are long forgotten by the time the trophies are being polished.

Yet &quot;Get Out&quot; is up for two Globes on Sunday and entertainment website Eonline.com has been extolling its virtues as a genuine contender.

Guillermo del Toro`s &quot;The Shape of Water,&quot; a hot favorite among the movies vying for the best dramatic film Globe, has seven nominations in total.

The Cold War-era piece tells the story of a young, mute woman (Sally Hawkins) who works at night in a government laboratory and falls in love with a captive merman-like amphibian creature.

Banding together over the course of one horrifying summer, the friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the murderous, bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise.Despite how truly frightening Pennywise is - every time he appears on screen, and it`s just the right amount of time, the audience watching the movie grew visibly uncomfortable.The movie, lives and dies with the Losers; their carefully fleshed out stories, the bullying they endure, and the firm friendship that helps them survive. Unlike most horror films, IT is a drama first and which to be honest is quite refreshing. Triumphant in two ways - Firstly, the movie ended his search for a hit and secondly, the critics and audiences got to know that Shyamalan still has the `firepower` to make good movies.McAvoy plays Kevin, a victim of child abuse who has slipped into a deep state of dissociative identity disorder in which, as a coping mechanism, he has created 23 distinct personalities, some of which are more sinister than the others. And in the opening scene of the film, one of his particularly menacing avatars kidnaps three young girls and locks them up in an underground cellar.McAvoy`s performance here is nothing short of extraordinary. Though we don`t get to see each of the 23 personalities, but Shyamalan wisely chooses to develop only a handful of them.Shyamalan movies are known for its twist-in-the-end type of conclusions and no wonder he has given an incredible twist in this one too.Split may not be of everyone`s taste, but the story, craftsmanship, and excellent performances will haunt you for quite a while. As will some beastly bits.

The movie is a story of Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what`s left of society into chaos.His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who`s been missing for 30 years.This might be the best Harrison Ford movie in recent years; he keeps on getting better and better with each film. Meanwhile, Gosling cements his place as one of the great actors of this generation.Visually stunning and narratively satisfying, Blade Runner 2049&nbsp;deepens and expands its predecessor`s story while standing as an impressive filmmaking achievement in its own right.The flick is bold, challenging cinema, an almost Biblical success; like Terence Malick`s The Tree of Life, Martin Scorsese`s Silence, and Nolan`s Interstellar, it positively demands multiple viewings.

She delivers a film which proves that even in a genre as repetitive as this one, correct answers can still be found despite sticking to the formula, when you get each variable right. The stunt choreography is one of the finest you would have witnessed.While everyone got really angry when Gal Gadot was initially casted as the Princess of Themyscira, she exactly knew how to make them mum and she did exactly that. She delivered a performance which not just had good acting skills but also had a heart. Her acting, the brilliant action sequences and the innocence she shows when she first encounters the world of men, is what makes her performance so special.It is without a doubt, the best superhero movie of 2017.

Last night, DIFF honoured&nbsp;Egypt&#39;s Wahid Hamed, the screenwriter behind the 2006 film adaptation of &quot;The Yaacoubian Building&quot;, with a lifetime achievement award, along with both Khan and Stewart.

Hamed, known as a pioneer of Arab cinema, has a long history of battling censorship. For over a decade, he fought for his political drama &quot;Al-Baree&quot; (The Innocent) to make it to the silver screen which was finally released in 1997.&nbsp;

Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) 2018 opened Wednesday night with the coming together of artists from around the world. British actor Patrick Stewart, famous for his role as Professor X in "X-Men" was seen along with Indian films' actor Irrfan Khan and renowned Egypt's director Wahid Hamed. The 14th edition of the festival will be featuring 140 movies from 51 countries with a focus on regions like the Middle East and North Africa, from Iran to Syria, Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian territories. The movie, as announced, will not be a lone film but will be part of an alternate universe that Boone is building. In a statement, he said,&nbsp;&quot;Fox made Deadpool and Logan and they were sort of so tonally different they felt emboldened to let us go make it different, and make have its own distinct tone and identity. I think of the mainline X-Men movies more as grand operative science-fiction films. This is much more of a performance-driven horror film.&quot;

The movie is set for a release next year on April 11.&nbsp;

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds has joined the cast of a&nbsp;Pokemon movie in the role of Detective Pikachu.

The actor will be lending his voice to the detective who owns mythical animated character Pikachu.

Joining Reynolds in the film will be actors Justice Smith and&nbsp;Kathryn Newton in the live-action film.&nbsp;

Reynolds&#39; shots will be captured by motion caption technology giving it the live-action feel.&nbsp;

The Pokemon film will be directed by&nbsp;Rob Letterman while the script is written by&nbsp;Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch.&nbsp;The story of the film&nbsp;is about a teenager who teams up with Pikachu in order to find his kidnapped father.

For background, &quot;Detective Pikachu&quot;&nbsp;was a video game launched in Japan in 2016. According to the game, the character Pikachu would help a child solve mysteries with new powers of being able to speak in human languages and wearing a reindeer cap just like Sherlock Holmes.

Filming on the project is expected to start soon.
