The activist decided to observe the day on August 26 because&nbsp;her family had adopted their first dog from a local animal shelter on that date. Ms Colleen was just ten years old when her family brought Sheltie home.&nbsp;

According to&nbsp;Paige, International Dog Day is observed to “support all breeds and varieties of dogs”. People are also discouraged to purchase dogs from unethical backyard breeders and puppy mills. Instead, they are asked to adopt furry friends from rescue homes.

Eight ancient vessels that were damaged in the 2020 Beirut explosion will be displayed at the British Museum, taking visitors through the laborious restoration process.

The Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic-era vessels were restored and will be displayed as a part of its "Shattered Glass of Beirut" exhibition before being sent back to Lebanon later this year. The 74 items in the case at the American University of Beirut included the vessels.

The incident happened when the building was struck by the shockwave of the port bomb that took place on August 4, 2020, three kilometres away, and broke the glass items inside.

Duygu Camurcuoglu, a senior conservator said that it was difficult to classify each piece of glass into whether it came from an ancient vessel or a display case, which belonged to a team of experts.

Visitors to the exhibition will follow the glass vessels’ journey from the explosion to their display in the renowned London Museum.&nbsp; The display will have lighting to highlight any glass flaws like cracks and gaps.

The jars are said to be significant in relaying the tale of the invention of ground-breaking glassblowing technology in Lebanon in the first century BC, which allowed for the mass manufacture of glass artifacts and made it possible for the public.

The conservators take great delight in their restoration and the collaborative effort that went into it, Camurcuoglu said.

She further continued, "We all individually felt that, I think, we contributed to something by working on these objects by sharing this pain, these emotions." She continued, "So it's not only about the conservation... but also the working together and achieving something together," AFP reported.

Since Airbus commonly dominates the skies in India, Boeing winning a narrowbody order will be a massive triumph for the manufacturer. In the world's fastest-growing aviation market before the pandemic, airlines such as IndiGo, operated by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd is the world's largest customers for Airbus best-selling narrowbodies, ordering more than 700, along with others including Vistara, Go Airlines India Ltd. and AirAsia India Ltd. who fly planes from the same European manufacturer.&nbsp;

Three hundred planes will&nbsp;take several years or even decades to produce and deliver. Airbus builds close to 50 aircraft in a month and plans to increase production to 65 per month by 2023 and then to 75 in a month by 2025.

Although Air India and Boeing representatives have declined to comment on the matter, a representative from Airbus told Bloomberg that their company is always in contact with existing and potential customers, but their discussions remain confidential.

Bloomberg quoted Satyendra Pandey, managing partner of aviation advisory firm AT-TV claiming, "This order presumably involves new methods of financing to play out in the right manner, including factoring in macroeconomic trends, notably the fluctuating rupee and rising inflation."

"Some airlines have placed voluminous orders only to find that they are unable to line up financing at favorable terms. While it is not an outcome that one envisions and certainly not with a group such as the Tatas, nevertheless, it has to be planned for," added Pandey.

Bloomberg News previously reported that Air India's owner Tata Group is in close talks with Airbus for an order of the A350 long-range jets that have the capacity of flying as far as the US West Coast from New Delhi.

Although Air India still holds gainful landing spots in the country, the airline faces huge competition from international players providing nonstop services to India and even airlines that fly via hubs in the Middle Eastern countries.&nbsp;

Tata-owned Air India set to make one of the largest aircraft deals in history

Indian history is full of brave men. But in&nbsp;the patriarchal land full of states&nbsp;fighting each other, there are stellar names of women who held their own when going got tough. They guarded their kingdoms, spear-headed reforms and defeated enemies on the battlefield.

Perhaps Ahilyabai Holkar is a personality who shines the brightest in this list of women who were ahead of their times. And her birth anniversary (May 31) is a fitting occasion to remember the brave Maratha queen.

Ahilyabai was born on May 31, 1725 in Chaundi (Ahmednagar) in Maharashtra. 18th century was the time when the Maratha military power had rapidly filled the vacuum formed after death of Aurangzeb, often referred to&nbsp;as the last great Mughal Emperor. The Marathas had long crossed their traditional heartland and had north India within their firm grip. In such a situation, though Peshwa, ruling from Pune, was the leader of the empire, powerful Maratha families like Sindhia (Shinde) and Holkar had carved their own realms within the Maratha empire in Gwalior and Indore respectively. Malhar Rao Holkar was a prominent lord in Malwa region.

Ahilyabai's father Mankoji Shinde home-schooled her and taught her to read and write. This was a time when educating women was frowned upon in India.&nbsp;

Ahilya was not born in a royal family, but a chance encounter saw her being daughter-in-law of the Holkars.

While on his way to Pune, Malhar Rao Holkar saw young Ahilya feeding the poor near a temple. So impressed was he with her that he asked her hand for a marriage to his son Khanderao Holkar. As it was customary during the medieval period. Both of them were married at a young age in 1733.

Her husband was killed in a battle at Kumbher in 1754. Malhar Rao Holkar, Ahilyabai's father-in-law, stood firmly by her side and forbade her from performing the sati ritual after her husband's death.

Ahilyabai was ahead of her time and under the tutelage of Malhar Rao, mastered the arts of politics and administration and statecraft.

Her important contribution remains renovation of Kashi Vishwanath temple in present-day Varanasi. She improved conditions in Malwa and&nbsp;helped restore Hindu places of worship in north India. Ahilyabai ascended to the throne on December 11, 1767.

In addition to being a politician, Ahilyabai was a warrior. A skilled archer, she was a horse rider.

After the death of Malhar Rao Holkar, the great patriarch and powerful lord, powers around Malwa started encircling Holkar domain thinking it was ripe for taking.

But Ahilyabai Holkar's able leadership saw the Holkar army defeat all adversaries.

Ahilyabai's prowess as a ruler and spirituality has impressed British historians and poets alike.

“Ahilyabai Holkar, the 'philosopher-queen' of Malwa, had evidently been an acute observer of the wider political scene.” says British historian John Keyas.

“In latter days from Brahma came, To rule our land, a noble Dame, Kind was her heart, and bright her fame, And Ahlya was her honoured name,” wrote Scottish poetess Joanna Bailie in 1849.

Remembering Ahilyabai Holkar, the queen of Marathas in Indore

There is no age to study. An Italian woman, who is at the age of 90, seems to be the living proof of the saying. &nbsp;

The woman, Annunziata Murgia, could not complete formal education due to the second world war. Now, she has made a considerable move and gone back to the classroom to finish her school diploma. &nbsp;

Murgia is studying the lessons for the licenza media at a centre close to her home in Dolianova, Sardinia. She is the oldest person ever in the class. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The woman has taken up middle school diploma, which is generally done by children at 14 years of age. &nbsp;&nbsp;

“I like studying, I’ve always liked it. But when the war broke out, everything changed for me. I had to go and work, as my family struggled and I had to play my part. Once upon a time, only those who had money could study,” Murgia told Il Messaggero. &nbsp;

Iga Swiatek moved up to the top of the WTA rankings on Monday, becoming the first tennis player from Poland to be ranked number one in the sport.

20-year-old Swiatek takes over from Ashleigh Barty, following the Australian's shock retirement when last month the three-time grand slam winner announced she would be leaving the sport at 25-years-old, having spent more than two years as world #1.

After beating Naomi Osaka to win the Miami Open title on Saturday, Swiatek moved onto a 17-match winning streak having already won Indian Wells a week earlier, and the Qatar Open in Doha in February.
