Hours before Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to sit down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Britain's Queen Elizabeth II will appear on TV to address and celebrate the Commonwealth on March 7.

According to reports, the Queen will share her annual message to mark Commonwealth Day, which is on March 8 this year, in a special programme on BBC One that will replace the usual annual service, which has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Her appearance will come just hours before her grandson Harry and his wife Meghan tell the world about why they left the royal family, in a move that has shocked and angered its remaining members.

Westminster Abbey, where the annual service was to have been held, said Monday the programme will also involve Harry's father Prince Charles, elder brother Prince William, and other senior royals.

Harry and Meghan announced last week the "intimate" interview with the US chat show host, in which they are expected to air their grievances about how they were treated inside the family following their fairy tale wedding in 2018.

Soon after the news of their interview came into light, Buckingham Palace announced the couple had permanently quit royal duties, just over a year after they rocked the monarchy by announcing plans to "step back" from their roles.

The Queen ordered the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as they are formally known, to relinquish their honorary titles and patronages following the confirmation that they would not be returning as working royals.

Harry and Meghan quit their roles as senior members of the royal family in March 2020 and relocated to the United States. They have since embarked on several commercial ventures there including lucrative tie-ups with the streaming platforms Netflix and Spotify.

On Valentine's Day earlier this month, the couple announced that they were expecting their second baby together. They are parents to one-year-old Archie.

Britain`s Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have distanced themselves from an upcoming book on their time in the royal family, saying they were not interviewed for the biography and did not make any contributions to it.

London's High Court on Friday threw out part of a claim brought by Meghan, Britain's Duchess of Sussex, against a tabloid newspaper for breaching her privacy, ruling that it had not acted dishonestly.

Meghan, the wife of Queen Elizabeth's grandson Prince Harry, is suing publisher Associated Newspapers over articles its Mail on Sunday newspaper printed last year which included parts of a letter she had sent to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

At a hearing last week, the paper's lawyer argued that allegations it had acted dishonestly, had stoked the family rift and conducted an agenda against the Duchess of Sussex by publishing offensive, false stories, should not be included.

"I agree that all three categories of the allegation should be struck out of the Particulars of Claim," judge Mark Warby said in his ruling.

Since their star-studded wedding in May 2018, relations between some media and Meghan and Harry, who are now living in the Los Angeles area having stepped down from their royal roles at the end of March, have become increasingly hostile.

Last week, the couple announced they would have "zero engagement" with four of Britain's top tabloids, including the tabloid's sister paper the Daily Mail, accusing them of false and invasive coverage.

The privacy case centres on articles published by the Mail on Sunday in February 2019 about the rift between Meghan and her father.

Markle pulled out days before the wedding after undergoing heart surgery and following news he had staged photos with a paparazzi photographer. Speculation about his attendance dominated the build-up to the ceremony and he has not spoken to Meghan since.

Lawyers for the duchess say the publication of her letter, which she wrote in August 2018, was a misuse of private information and breached her copyright. They are seeking aggravated damages.

As part of the claim, they had accused the Mail and other tabloids of harassing, humiliating and manipulating Thomas Markle, and contributing towards a fallout between him and his daughter.

The Mail justified publishing the letter by saying unnamed friends of Meghan had put her version of events in interviews with the U.S. magazine People and that Markle had the right to put his side.

It also argues that given Meghan's royal status, there was a legitimate public interest in her family relationships.

At last week's hearing, which was held by remotely by videolink and which Meghan and Harry listened into, the lawyer for the newspaper, Antony White, said it was "remarkable" the claim about Markle's treatment had been made without the duchess having contacted him herself to see if he agreed.

"Meghan Markle suffers massive setback in the war against the press," the Daily Mail said on its website on Friday. It said the publisher would be asking Meghan to pay more than 50,000 pounds in legal costs after she declined to settle the issues of last week's hearing out of court.

Meghan's lawyers said they were surprised that the judge thought dishonesty was an irrelevant factor but added that the paper should still be held accountable for publishing "a private, intimate and hand-written letter" from the duchess.

"Today’s ruling makes very clear that the core elements of this case do not change and will continue to move forward," said a spokesman for law firm Schillings.

He added: "The Duchess’ rights were violated; the legal boundaries around privacy were crossed. As part of this process, the extremes to which The Mail on Sunday used distortive, manipulative, and dishonest tactics to target The Duchess of Sussex have been put on full display."

Meghan Markle loses first round in legal fight against British tabloid

Every starry-eyed ingenue arriving in Los Angeles faces the same question: how to catch that big break in Hollywood? For Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, it's far more complicated.

The pair, who formally stepped down as senior members of the British royal family this week, have reportedly already relocated to sunny California.

They are currently rumored to be hunkering down at a compound in Malibu, the exclusive beach community outside Los Angeles long favored by A-listers and movie moguls.

But how the couple will achieve their ambition of forging a new, "financially independent" life remains to be seen.
Meghan's options would appear to be more straightforward.

It is a homecoming of sorts -- she grew up in Los Angeles, her mother still lives here, and she has extensive contacts from her days as an actress.

"I think Meghan will continue to work in the entertainment world one way or another," said celebrity branding expert Jeetendr Sehdev.

"It's their unique selling point -- Meghan, at the end of the day, has come from the entertainment industry. They don't want to be denying that DNA."

While Sehdev thinks it is "unlikely" she will go back into acting, Meghan "might present documentaries, she might do more voiceover work."

Before she left Britain, Meghan had already narrated a wildlife documentary for Disney -- a company that her royal background could make her uniquely suited to.

"The fact that she was a princess -- people do like that idea," said Los Angeles-based producer and journalist Simon Thompson.

"Even though they're no longer part of the royal family, people will still put that brand on her -- she's ideal for alignment with things like Disney."

Other entertainment giants including Netflix have already voiced interest in working with her.

But if she were to act again, Meghan will likely be wary of "stunt casting" and need to be selective in picking more substantive roles, Thompson added.

"I think she'll get some big offers," he said. "It really depends on whether she wants to continue to be seen as a celebrity or as an agent of change."

- 'Complete 180' -

For Harry, the decision to sever family ties and move thousands of miles away is more of a plunge into the unknown.
"I don't see a natural fit for somebody like Harry in Hollywood -- but that's not to say that he won't adapt," said Sehdev, bestselling author of "The Kim Kardashian Principle."

"The royal family brand was programmed to be opaque. It's so controlled, so contrived and so manufactured that we don't really know who these people are."

Speaking engagements, book deals and interviews -- including on Hollywood's famous red carpets -- could be options to redress that, said Sehdev.

"He's going to have to do a complete 180 and actually take a leaf out of the book of Kim Kardashian, those reality show influencers, and say I'm gonna actually open up my life. Let you in and show who I really am."

The pair could also emulate the Obamas by forming a production company, suggested Thompson -- a move that would allow both to highlight causes important to them such as veteran care, mental health and the environment.

- 'Life of celebrities' -

Another decision facing the couple is where to live.

With Meghan's mother based in the city, gated communities and private streets in affluent neighborhoods such as Brentwood or Beverly Hills could appeal.

"I don't think we're going to see them out and around in the heart of Hollywood, living right in the thick of it," said Thompson.

"That would be just a logistical nightmare for them," he added, pointing to the security requirements and the couple's young son Archie.

President Donald Trump has insisted US taxpayers will not pay their security bill -- prompting a rare response from the couple's spokeswoman, who said they had "no plans to ask the US government for security resources."

Calabasas -- a hilly suburban haven for the likes of the Kardashian clan -- could be another option, said Sehdev.
"It's fair to say that they want to live the life of celebrities."

"I don't think we're going to see them out and around in the heart of Hollywood, living right in the thick of it," said Thompson. "That would be just a logistical nightmare for them," he added, pointing to the security requirements and the couple's young son Archie. President Donald Trump has insisted US taxpayers will not pay their security bill -- prompting a rare response from the couple's spokeswoman, who said they had "no plans to ask the US government for security resources." Calabasas -- a hilly suburban haven for the likes of the Kardashian clan -- could be another option, said Sehdev. "It's fair to say that they want to live the life of celebrities."

Madame Tussauds waxwork museum has removed the figures of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan from its British royal family display, in response to the couple's announcement that they will be stepping back from royal duties.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Wednesday that they intend to divide their time between North America and the UK to carve out a "progressive new role" and step back from their senior positions.

Senior members of the royal family were disappointed by the move, a royal source said.

Madame Tussauds, which contains more than 250 wax models of celebrities, said the two figures will go in a separate section, away from that which includes Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Prince William and his wife Kate.

"Alongside the rest of the world, we are reacting to the surprising news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be stepping back as senior Royals," said general manager Steve Davies.

He added in a statement: "As two of our most popular and well-loved figures, they will, of course, remain an important feature at Madame Tussauds London as we watch to see what the next chapter holds for them."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle`s wedding cake has taken six bakers five days to prepare and breaks with tradition, according to its designer Claire Ptak.

Harry, Queen Elizabeth`s grandson, and former US actress Markle will tie the knot on Saturday in Windsor Castle`s 15th-century St George`s Chapel.

Ptak said her design was more of an installation than a typical wedding cake but offered few details.

The couple decided to buck the royal tradition for fruitcake and instead opted for a lemon and elderflower creation with buttercream icing, topped with fresh flowers.

Harry and Meghan chose lemon and elderflower because they wanted to enjoy flavours that are in season, as told by Ptak, who is the baker of the cake.

"When I was first asked to present an idea for the cake I bought a selection of flavours and designs and they made a decision together as a couple," told to an interviewer

"You have a really lovely kind of thing happening when you take a bite, which is to get all of those flavours and sensations that are perfectly balanced."

Ptak, the cake baker is originally from California and worked at Chez Panisse in Berkeley under chef Alice Waters before moving to London. She started her own business cooking at home and selling cakes on a stall in east London`s Broadway Market.

"It is obviously such an honor to be asked to do this because for me I have been baking since I was a little kid and this is my dream," she said.

A global audience will be watching when Prince Harry weds his U.S. fiancee Meghan Markle on Saturday, but most Britons don`t care much, a YouGov poll said on Monday.

The poll, commissioned by anti-monarchist pressure group Republic, found that 66 percent of Britons are not interested in the event, with 60 percent of Britons planning to have a normal weekend.

Harry and Markle are set to marry at St George`s Chapel in Windsor Castle with more than 5,000 media staff and around 100,000 well-wishers expected to descend on the market town.
The poll by polling firm YouGov showed that 57 percent of respondents believed the royal family should pay not only for the wedding but also for the costs of police.

An opinion poll published last week showed that most Britons are in favor of the monarchy continuing in Britain.

And another poll by polling firm ComRes found 58 percent of respondents thought the royal wedding and the recent birth of Prince Louis to Prince William and his wife Kate were events of which Britain could be proud, although support was more pronounced among older people.

The YouGov survey suggested that the popularity of the royal family is contingent on the personalities of its members. While 60 percent of respondents say they like Queen Elizabeth, her son Charles is far less popular.
Nearly half of respondents would prefer "someone else" to succeed the Queen, while only 37 percent want Charles, who is the father of Harry and his older brother William.

"This YouGov poll shows a very clear picture of a nation disinterested and apathetic about the royal family," Graham Smith, chief executive of Republic, said.

"We`re not a nation of republicans yet - but we`ve stopped being a nation of royalists."

Two decades on from the death of princess Diana, her sons Princes William and Harry are working to keep her legacy alive with unusually emotional tributes after years of official silence.

As the 20th anniversary of her death on August 31 approaches, the brothers have opened up for the first time about their mother, her life, and her impact on them and on the causes she championed.

William was 15 and Harry 12 when Diana died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

How deeply their loss affected them is something they have only recently begun to discuss.

"Twenty years on, Harry and I felt that it was an appropriate time to open up a bit more about our mother," William said.

"We won't speak as openly or publicly about her again."

The pair featured in a 90-minute programme entitled "Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy" broadcast by British channel ITV earlier this year.

"This is the first time that the two of us have ever spoken about her as a mother. Arguably, probably a little bit too raw up until this point. It's still raw," said Harry.

Harry recently revealed that he sought help in the last few years as he struggled to deal with his suppressed grief.

Celebrating Diana's life

In 2007, the princes staged a benefit concert at Wembley Stadium and a memorial service at which Harry gave a tribute.

But this year marks the first time that the brothers have spoken in such emotional depth.

In an interview with Newsweek magazine, Harry opened up about the trauma of having to walk behind his mother's coffin through London for her funeral.

"I don't think any child should be asked to do that, under any circumstances. I don't think it would happen today," he said.

In those tense days 20 years ago, many Britons voiced anger at a perceived lack of empathy from the royal establishment.

Some feel the royals have been happy to see Diana replaced in the limelight.

Patrick Jephson, Diana's former private secretary, said the princess had been airbrushed out.

"There had been a period since her death during which the royal establishment has been uncertain how to treat the memory of Diana," he told AFP.

"For much of the last two decades she has been the name that cannot be spoken in royal circles.

"Therefore it is with a note of slight defiance and determination that her children have said 'no, there's lots of good to remember, let's celebrate her life'."

Kensington statue planned

The brothers have commissioned a statue of Diana which will go in the public grounds of Kensington Palace, their home which was also their mother's base.

A garden has been created at the London palace in her honour.

The princes also attended a private service on July 1 to rededicate their mother's grave at her ancestral home on what would have been her 56th birthday.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the spiritual leader of the world's Anglicans, officiated at the grave, to which the public does not have access.

In their royal duties, William, 35, and Harry, 32, have also taken up the baton for their mother's causes.

Diana's visit to a minefield in Angola helped the movement towards the 1997 landmine ban treaty.

In the 1980s, during bedside visits to AIDS patients, she made a point making physical contact. It was a remarkable gesture at the time that helped break down the stigma attached to the disease.

Harry's push on landmine clearance and HIV testing are directly aimed at continuing his mother's campaigns, as is William's work with homeless shelters and on child bereavement.

Their joint work on mental health -- which saw Harry reveal his need for treatment to cope with the trauma of her death -- also touches a cause Diana championed.

Harry said the princes wondered what Diana would be doing now were she still alive.

"There's not a day that William and I don't wish that she was still around. We wonder what kind of a mother she would be now and what kind of a public role she would have and what a difference she would be making," he said.

Jephson said Diana's greatest legacy was her sons themselves.

He said: "We can see in them many of the attributes that she had -- principally her ability to combine royalty with the common touch."
