Tottenham Hotspur made light of striker Harry Kane's injury absence as Christian Eriksen scored twice in a 3-0 victory at Swansea City in a one-sided FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

Danish midfielder Eriksen produced a classy performance, giving Spurs the lead with an exquisite 11th-minute opener and finishing off the hosts just past the hour.

Erik Lamela was also on target for Tottenham who will now effectively have a 'home' semi-final at Wembley Stadium, their temporary home this season while their new ground is built.

Tottenham have reached back-to-back FA Cup semis for the first time since 1982, although they have lost all seven of those they have contested since they last won the Cup in 1991.

Swansea, who had lost only once in their previous 14 games under new manager Carlos Carvalhal, were in the last eight for the first time in 54 years but offered precious little.

Top scorer Kane faces several weeks out after injuring his ankle in the Premier League win at Bournemouth last week but Spurs hardly missed the England man as they strolled to victory.

They have now scored seven goals since he hobbled off early on the south coast last week.

"We're in the semi-finals, Wembley is waiting, we deserve it," Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, yet to mark his impressive work at the club with a trophy, said.

"Of course when you score early it makes it easy to control the game."

Missing Ayews

Swansea were without cup-tied striker Andre Ayew and his brother Jordan who was suspended, but began brightly enough with Tammy Abraham having an early chance.

But once they fell behind they appeared to have little appetite for the contest.

Eriksen is lethal when given time and space and he had both in abundance as he advanced before curling a left-foot shot past the dive of Swedish keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

Tottenham's Son Heung-min then had a goal disallowed for offside -- the referee's decision being referred to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system for confirmation.

Eriksen also had a shot tipped onto the bar by Nordfeldt but Spurs did double their lead when Argentine Lamela showed neat footwork before stroking a right-foot shot inside the post.

Tottenham's second-choice keeper Michel Vorm, formerly of Swansea, had little to do although he made one great double save just after the break, stopping Martin Olsson's piledriver before reacting well to save Abraham's headed follow-up.

The visitors' third goal came after a long spell of possession when Eriksen arrived on the edge of the area to thump a shot past Nordfeldt who was deceived by the bounce.

Pochettino's team turned the rest of the match into a training routine as their fans chanted their traditional FA Cup song "Spurs are on their way to Wembley" with a hint of irony.

With Chelsea, who face Leicester City away on Sunday, and Manchester United, at home to Brighton & Hove Albion later on Saturday, still in the competition there is much work ahead if Tottenham are to lift the trophy for a ninth time.

For Swansea the challenge is to stay in the Premier League, having clawed their way out of the relegation zone.

"We achieved the best run in the FA Cup since 1964, this cup we gave importance to it but our main competition is trying to save the team. So now we move to the Premier," Carvalhal said.

FA Cup: Spurs into semis after Eriksen double sinks Swansea

Tottenham Hotspur overcame a worrying injury to talismanic striker Harry Kane to beat mid-table Bournemouth 4-1 with a Son Heung-min double and goals from Dele Alli and Serge Aurier to move up to third in the Premier League.

The loss of England international Kane, Tottenham's top scorer, who went off with an ankle injury on the half-hour, took some of the gloss off a hard-won comeback victory with the visitors slightly flattered by two late goals.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Bournemouth to climb to third place

Harry Kane scored his 23rd Premier League goal of the season as Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday to dent their north London rivals' top-four aspirations.

After a sluggish first half, Kane jumped highest to head home his seventh derby goal in seven games and Spurs would have won by a greater margin but for an inspired performance from goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Spurs climb two places to third and Arsenal now sit six points adrift of Liverpool in fourth - though Juergen Klopp's side has one game in hand.

Arsenal, however, did have late chances to equalise with substitute Alexandre Lacazette - who replaced the ineffective Henrikh Mkhitaryan - twice going close in the closing minutes.

EPL: Kane on target as Spurs take derby spoils

Harry Kane is happy at Tottenham Hotspur but only the England striker himself can answer questions regarding his long-term commitment to the Premier League club, manager Mauricio Pochettino said.

Kane has excelled at his boyhood club in recent seasons and scored his 100th Premier League goal in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Sunday, but the forward has made it clear that winning trophies was his priority.

The 24-year-old signed a deal to remain at Tottenham until 2022 but former England international team-mate Wayne Rooney told Sky Sports on Monday that Kane could contemplate his future if fifth-placed Tottenham do not start winning trophies.

Asked about Kane's long-term future, Pochettino said: "That is a question for him, not me. Of course, he wants to score goals and win titles but I cannot say anything more about this."

Kane has attracted interest from major European clubs in recent seasons, with Real Madrid's former president Ramon Calderon stating in October that he expected the Spanish club to try to sign the forward.

"He is so happy here and he loves Tottenham but this is a personal question, regarding what he thinks and how he feels. I cannot answer for him," Pochettino added.

Meanwhile, Pochettino said that the increasing scrutiny of refereeing decisions, including through the use of the video assistant referee (VAR), was not helping the game.

Tottenham were awarded two penalties including one in the 95th minute of their draw at Liverpool, while midfielder Dele Alli was booked for simulation.

Liverpool boss Juergen Klopp fumed at the penalty decisions while Pochettino was much more positive about referee Jon Moss and his assistants.

"Now we are so focused on minimal details. I am worried. It's a sport that we love, a passionate sport that people love to watch around the world," the Argentine added.

"We will be pushing that sport into a very rigid structure with VAR, with being focused too much on the small actions like this," he added.

Football: Only Kane can answer questions on Spurs future, says Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino's hailed Harry Kane's bravery after he shrugged off missing a penalty to net his 100th Premier League goal from a second spot-kick to salvage Tottenham Hotspur a point from a thrilling 2-2 draw at Liverpool.

Kane had seen his first penalty saved by Loris Karius five minutes from time with the score at 1-1.

Mohamed Salah then looked to have snatched all three points from Liverpool in style with a stunning solo run and finish in stoppage time to pull level with Kane on 21 Premier League goals for the season.

However, Kane edged back ahead of the Egyptian when he sent Karius the wrong way after Liverpool's £75 million club record signing Virgil van Dijk was adjudged to have clipped Erik Lamela inside the area two minutes later.

"He is one of the best strikers. He can miss a penalty or a chance, but the personality to score 100 Premier League goals is because you have big, big balls," said Pochettino.

The England international is the second quickest ever player to reach a Premier League century with only Alan Shearer bettering his return of 100 goals in 141 games.

"It's great to be in that 100 club now, and it's great to get something from the game after that rollercoaster of emotions," said Kane.

Despite the late drama, Spurs still trail third-placed Liverpool by two points down in fifth in the race for a place in the top four.

Failure to make the Champions League next season will further fuel speculation as to whether Spurs can retain even a man dubbed "one of our own" by the Tottenham faithful.

- 'One of the world's best' -

"Kane is one of the best players in the world, 100 per cent, if not the best pure striker in the world at the moment," even Klopp admitted to the Daily Mail before kick-off.

However, for all the talent available to Pochettino, Spurs' challenge remains undermined by their record on the road against their closest challengers.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have still won just one of 19 away trips to the rest of the Premier League's top six at Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Argentine, though, insisted progress is being made after dominating possession at Anfield after falling behind to Salah's third-minute opener.

"It was a fantastic performance," said Pochettino.

"Against a team that is so difficult when they are up on the score the control and performance were amazing.

"The feeling in the dressing room from the team is that we dropped two points."

Spurs had got off to the worst possible start when Salah latched onto a wayward backpass from Eric Dier to coolly slot past Hugo Lloris.

The visitors controlled the game after the break but needed a spectacular strike from an unlikely source to get back level when substitute Victor Wanyama smashed into the top corner with his first touch.

A frantic final 10 minutes ensued as Kane atoned for his poor first penalty and stayed a step ahead of Salah in their personal rivalry for the golden boot.

EPL: Pochettino hails 'ballsy' Kane for 100th Premier League goal

Tottenham Hotspur could afford to start Harry Kane on the bench and watch his replacement Fernando Llorente spearhead their hard-earned 2-0 Premier League win at bottom club Swansea City on Tuesday.

Former Swansea man Llorente, enjoying a rare start as Kane recovered from a heavy cold, headed Spurs in front after 12 minutes, although he was clearly offside when meeting Christian Eriksen's free kick.

In incessant driving rain at the Liberty Stadium, Spurs looked largely in control until after the break when Jordan Ayew went close and Jan Vertonghen inadvertently deflected a Swansea attack against his own post.

Yet Kane, brought on for the final 20 minutes, calmed nerves as he superbly set up an 89th-minute goal for Dele Alli that sealed the victory which lifted Spurs to fifth in the table, above their local rivals Arsenal.

A dramatic late win at Watford had given Swansea's new manager Carlos Carvalhal the ideal launch pad for a revival but the Portuguese's first home match in charge illustrated the magnitude of the task facing him.

"You need luck to score and win, yes, but after 90 minutes I think it's clear we were better and deserved the points," Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino told the BBC.

"The first half was so difficult to play football. The weather was horrible, but we dominated and tried to play football."

Even the absence of Kane, not risked from the start with Spurs due to play 48 hours later against West Ham United, did not stop the early one-way traffic in the pouring rain which left surface water on the pitch.

It did, however, mean the Spurs' marksman, who was brought on midway through the second half, missed out on the chance of a third successive league hat-trick, a feat not achieved in English football for 72 years.

Instead, it was Spanish international Llorente who ghosted ahead of his marker and latched on to Eriksen's superb whipped free kick from the left flank to head home past Lukasz Fabianski.

The decision to award the goal clearly exasperated Carvalhal, who was right in thinking Llorente was offside but there could be no argument about the quality of the assist from Eriksen.

It meant the Dane has now been involved in either scoring or setting up 11 goals in eight league matches against Swansea.

Yet after dominating the first half against the side with the worst defensive record in the league, Spurs made heavy weather of the win, a resurgent Swansea coming closest when Mike van der Hoorn's header deflected off Vertonghen's back and struck the woodwork.

Spurs, though, reasserted their superiority when Kane came on, the goalscorer par excellence turning provider as his marvellous through ball on the counter-attack found Alli, who bundled the ball home at the second attempt.

EPL: Llorente punishes old club as Spurs win at Swansea

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City both issued timely reminders to Chelsea that the Premier League title race might not be over with impressive victories on Sunday.

After top-six rivals Arsenal and Manchester United dropped points on Saturday, second-placed Tottenham took full advantage as Harry Kane struck twice in a 3-2 home win against Everton.

That left Tottenham seven points behind Chelsea who face West Ham United on Monday, while City are a further point behind Tottenham with a game in hand after goals by Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane eased them to a 2-0 win at Sunderland who stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

City are three points above fourth-placed Liverpool while Arsenal have slipped out of the top-four after their 3-1 loss at Anfield on Saturday. United are sixth, three points worse off than Liverpool, after drawing with Bournemouth on Saturday.

Tottenham, as they did for most of last season when they pursued title winners Leicester City into the closing weeks, look like they are ready to go the distance again.

Kane opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a 25-metre rocket shot and doubled his side's advantage early in the second half -- his 19th league goal of the season and 14th strike in 12 games in all competitions.

Romelu Lukaku, vying for the Premier League's Golden Boot with Kane, struck his 18th of the season with 10 minutes left before Dele Alli struck for Spurs in stoppage time and Enner Valencia replied immediately for the visitors.

Tottenham have now won nine consecutive home Premier League games for the first time while Everton's nine-match unbeaten run in the league came to an end.

"It was a fantastic performance even if we are a little disappointed to concede the goals," Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said. "We dominated the game and played with a lot of confidence.

"It's important because now comes the most important period in the season."

City, who have the chance to move second when they play at home to Stoke City on Wednesday, were in third gear at times against Sunderland but had far too much class.

It took them until three minutes before the break to edge ahead. A sweeping move saw David Silva release Raheem Sterling whose cross was dinked home by Aguero.

Silva was involved in City's second -- a perfectly-weighted pass allowing Sane to smash a shot past Jordan Pickford.

City have kept five successive away clean sheets in all competitions and have 10 away league wins, although Guardiola was still not totally satisfied.

"It was a good victory," he said. "But we were passing the ball between ourselves in the last 25 minutes.

Both won on Sunday, are now respectively 7 & 8 points behind the league leaders

"It's important because now comes the most important period in the season." City, who have the chance to move second when they play at home to Stoke City on Wednesday, were in third gear at times against Sunderland but had far too much class. "I don't like to defend a result and be near our box. It is okay if you're 3-0 or 4-0 up but not 2-0." (Reuters)

Tottenham, Man City keep up chase of Chelsea

Harry Kane made a goal-scoring return from injury to earn Tottenham Hotspur a 1-1 draw in an absorbing north London derby and foil Arsenal's attempts to move top of the Premier League at the Emirates on Sunday.

Requiring a first league win over Tottenham in five attempts to climb above pre-match leaders Chelsea, Arsenal were given a helping hand in the midday kickoff by Kevin Wimmer's own goal just before halftime.

But Kane, out since mid-September with an ankle injury, levelled six minutes after the break from the penalty spot. Kane wasted two other glorious chances while both sides hit the woodwork in an intense derby.

Theo Walcott thundered a shot against the crossbar in the first half while Tottenham, who finished stronger, nearly won it late on when Christian Eriksen's curling free kick into the area evaded everyone and bounced off the post.

Instead of heading into the international break top, Arsenal dropped to fourth with 24 points from 11 games, one behind Chelsea and two behind Liverpool, who surged past everyone with a 6-1 thrashing of Watford later.

Tottenham are unbeaten in the Premier League but have drawn their last four games and stay fifth with 21 points.

"I'm very pleased with the performance," Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, whose side improved greatly from the midweek Champions League loss to Bayer Leverkusen, said. "They created some chances and we created chances, maybe the draw was a fair result. The second half we started very well and it was a very open game. It's been a tough month so to be 11 matches unbeaten is very positive for us."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said his side had been "flat" in the second half, but thought Tottenham's penalty was harsh. "From where I sit it didn't look dangerous to score or a deliberate foul," he said. "(Victor) Wanyama was lucky to stay on the pitch, after three or four fouls, an elbow on Walcott."

The visitors, who were without midfielder Dele Alli after he injured a knee in training, made the better start. Kane headed Eriksen's cross wide from in front of goal as Arsenal initially seemed wrong-footed by Tottenham's formation which featured three centre backs in Wimmer, Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen with full backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose attacking at every opportunity.

Arsenal began to assert themselves though and Alex Iwobi should have scored after a lightning counter-attack but shot tamely straight at Hugo Lloris.

Walcott let fly from 25 yards, but saw his shot cannon off the bar back to Ozil who sliced the rebound over.

Wimmer, playing his first league match of the season, then had a nightmare moment, glancing Ozil's teasing 42nd minute free kick into his own goal under pressure from Laurent Koscielny.

Kane gave Tottenham's attack a threat and he made no mistake from the spot after referee Mark Clattenburg ruled that Koscielny had ended Mousa Dembele's driving run illegally.

He has now scored five goals in four north London derbies, and it should have been six when he failed to make proper contact with Danny Rose's low cross.

Eriksen forced a great save by Cech and while Arsenal pressed for a winner, Spurs finished strongly with substitute Vincent Jansen wasting a late chance to grab victory.
