<h2>What do the two resolutions say?</h2>

The resolution proposed by Canada, the first one to be voted on, said that it “unequivocally rejects and condemns the terrorist attacks by Hamas” in Israel, including the taking of more than 200 hostages.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Jordanian resolution, which was backed by 40 member states, called for an “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce”. It also demanded compliance with international humanitarian law amid the ongoing war as well as provisions to supply aid to Gaza.&nbsp;

The Jordan-authored resolution also called for the “immediate and unconditional release” of all civilians held captive. However, the resolution did not mention Hamas’ attacks on southern Israel.&nbsp;

While these resolutions are not binding or represent the official position of the UNGA until adopted they hold political weight. This comes as the pressure on Israel has been ramped up in recent days after it said that it would launch a “ground operation” in Gaza.

<h2>What happened?</h2>

The Canada-led resolution failed after managing to garner enough votes with 88 nations in favour, 55 against, and 23 nations abstaining. On the other hand, the Jordanian resolution was adopted by the UNGA with 120 votes in favour, 14 against and 45 abstentions.

General Assembly&nbsp;stressed on the “importance of preventing further destabilization and escalation of violence in the region”, urging “all parties to exercise maximum restraint and upon all those with influence on them to work toward this objective.”

This comes amid fears that the war between Israel and Hamas could expand to the rest of the region. It has also called on Israel to cancel its order to civilians in northern Gaza – as many as 1.1 million people – to move to the south of the Palestinian territory.&nbsp;

The General Assembly “firmly rejects any attempts at the forced transfer of the Palestinian civilian population,” the resolution said. It also called for the “immediate and unconditional release of all civilians who are being illegally held captive,” but did not mention Hamas anywhere in the text.&nbsp;

<h2>Israel slams ‘ridiculous’ resolution</h2>

Gilad Erdan, Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, reiterated the country’s right to defend itself and slammed the resolution which does not mention Hamas’ attacks which was one of the worst ones that Israel has witnessed in its 75-year-old history.

“This ridiculous resolution has the audacity to call for a truce, the goal for this resolution’s truce is that Israel should cease to defend itself, so Hamas can light us on fire,” said Erdan. “Why are you defending murderers? Why are you defending terrorists…? What is going on here?”&nbsp;

He also said that Israel is “closely monitoring” the humanitarian situation in Gaza, “and we know that there is no humanitarian crisis in accordance with humanitarian law trusting the reports coming out of is exactly like trusting reports from ISIS,” referring to the Islamic State militant group.&nbsp;

<h2>Hamas, Palestinian Authority welcome decision</h2>

Hamas and the Palestinian Authority welcomed the adoption of the Jordanian resolution. “We demand its immediate application to allow the entry of fuel and humanitarian aid for civilians,” said the Palestinian militant group in a statement.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority Israel’s campaign against the Palestinian people “reaches a new peak of brutality,” there was “a solid international position rejecting Israel's unhinged aggression”.

UN adopts resolution calling for ‘humanitarian truce’ between Israel and Hamas. Here's what happened

India needs a robust border defence system to ward&nbsp;off terror threats and foil the dangerous designs of its enemies. For instance, in 2008, terrorists from Pakistan armed with assault weapons and grenades infiltrated Mumbai by sea and managed to kill 166 people.

India is now acting with urgency on this matter. According to media reports, Indian forces are looking to have the drone defence system up and running by as early as May.

According to reports, it might take India almost 18 months to cover the entire stretch of borders. The system will cost India $500 million annually.

<h2>How does this system work?</h2>

Solar-powered drones known as High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites (HAPS) will be deployed to support the drone infrastructure, capable of extended flight durations without requiring frequent landings.&nbsp;

These 24/7 high-altitude, long-endurance drones will also serve as backup for the conventional radar network along the country's borders, transmitting images directly to local command centres.&nbsp;

The protests in the West Bank were said to have started just hours after the raid. At least three Palestinians were also killed in “violent clashes” in the city of Jenin during an incursion by “a large contingent” of Israeli forces, reported Wafa.

Around a dozen people were injured during the skirmishes, claimed a Palestinian news agency report. Protests also erupted in Hebron in the West Bank, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

The continued Israeli raids as well as alleged attacks by the settlers in the West Bank have sparked protests and unrest for months now, but the situation has worsened since Hamas launched its surprise attack on southern Israel from Gaza on October 7.&nbsp;

According to the Israeli military, their personnel came under attack during arrest operations in the city of Jenin and fired back, killing two men.&nbsp;

Subsequently, the Islamic Jihad group confirmed one of them belonged to it and Hamas, in a separate statement, confirmed that one of their fighters was killed in Jenin.&nbsp;

The death toll due to the violence in the West Bank since the beginning of the war now stands at 110, reported Wafa.&nbsp;

Israeli security forces stopped young Palestinians from entering Al-Aqsa mosque, a contested site which has been at the centre of many deadly clashes and fights between Israelis and Palestinians over the years.&nbsp;

According to a Reuters journalist, a large number of Israeli police kept guard around Al-Aqsa as Palestinians gathered for Friday prayers and at one point they fired tear gas.&nbsp;

This was the third week in a row that Palestinians were restricted from praying at the mosque following the Hamas assault on southern Israel.&nbsp;

Palestinians were reportedly made to say prayers outside the Old City, gathering by roadsides while Israeli security forces watched. However, eventually, about 5,000 elderly worshippers were allowed into Al-Aqsa mosque.&nbsp;

According to the Jerusalem Islamic Endowments Department, which is in charge of the mosque, said that normally about 50,000 would take part.&nbsp;

As the Israel-Hamas war enters its 21st day, the internet is appalled as videos of a new TikTok trend are going viral. In these videos, people, allegedly Israeli citizens, can be seen mocking Palestinians.

This comes as the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry&nbsp;released a list of names of almost 7,000 Gazans it said had been killed in Israeli strikes.

<h2>A mockery of tragedy</h2>

In these videos, people can be seen mocking different aspects of Palestinian suffering. Due to the sensitive nature of the videos, we have not attached them here, but they can easily be accessed on all social media platforms.&nbsp;

An alarming aspect of these videos is the small children&nbsp;who can be seen taking part in the taunting.

Donning keffiyeh — a traditional headdress worn in many Middle Eastern nations, including Gaza, these people can be seen wearing makeup to appear injured and sprinkling talcum powder to make it seem like they're covered in dust or debris. In some videos, people carry dolls swaddled in cloth — a mockery of reports of the mothers who have lost their babies to the Israeli strikes.

One such video poking fun at Palestinian mothers by an Israeli influencer identified by The Express Tribune as Eve Cohen sparked controversy earlier this week. Cohen in the video allegedly claimed that mothers are faking the deaths of their children.

In others, they flaunt water, or light candles in the dark — jeering at Palestinians who have gone without water and power for days.&nbsp;

<h2>A wave of outrage</h2>

The videos by Cohen and others have predictably sparked widespread outrage. Netizens are calling out people in the videos for their apparent lack of sensitivity towards the Palestinian plight.&nbsp;

On X, one user questioned, "Is Palestinian genocide the new source of Israeli comedy or something?"

Another said that the videos were an "example of the anti-Palestinian racist conspiracy theory of 'pallywood,' where some Zionists argue that Palestinians manipulate media through 'faking suffering' - unsurprisingly, it's also very similar to anti-Semitic tropes too. Very telling about Israel supporters."

TikTok rejects Malaysian allegations claiming it restricts pro-Palestinian content on platform

Israel on Friday (Oct 27) accused the Palestinian militant group Hamas of abusing hospitals in the Gaza Strip for military purposes as the conflict in and around the Palestinian territory intensifies.

The Israeli military said that Hamas was using the hospital as a shield for its tunnels and operational centres.

"Hamas has turned hospitals into command and control centres and hideouts for Hamas terrorists and commanders," Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israel's chief military spokesman, told a news conference.

Hagari said Hamas was using the hospital system to hide its command posts and entry points into the comprehensive tunnel network under Gaza.

He specifically identified Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest in Gaza, as one from which Hamas militants were operating.

"Hamas has turned hospitals into command and control centres and hideouts for Hamas terrorists and commanders. Additionally, I can confirm that according to the intelligence we have in our hands, there is fuel in hospitals in Gaza," Hagari said.

"Hamas terrorists operate inside and under Shifa Hospital and other hospitals in Gaza," he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also took to his official X account and shared an illustration-based video showing how the militant group used Shifa Hospital as a shelter for its military operations from both above and below the ground.

The Palestinian militant group fired back on the accusations by Israel and said that the claims were unfounded.

"There's no basis in truth in what the spokesman of the enemy army stated," said Izzat al-Rishq, a senior member of the Hamas political bureau. He accused Israel of making the allegations to "pave the way for a new massacre to be committed against our people".

Earlier, the Commissioner General for the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, rejected that any aid was being redirected.

"We have solid monitoring mechanisms... UNRWA does not and will not divert any humanitarian aid into the wrong hands," Lazzarini said.
