Four people died and multiple others were injured in a shooting near a mosque in Oman's capital Muscat, police said on Tuesday (Jul&nbsp;16).

"The Royal Oman Police have responded to a shooting incident that occurred in the vicinity of a mosque in the Al-Wadi Al-Kabir area," police said in a statement.

At least four have been killed and several others were wounded at the mosque in eastern Muscat, police informed.

Following the crash, the two&nbsp;quickly exited the stolen vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.

Their escape route took them near the Capitol Police headquarters, where officers engaged in a pursuit and successfully arrested&nbsp;both suspects.

During the investigation, law enforcement discovered a Glock handgun within the stolen vehicle, equipped with a 22-round extended magazine.

Moreover, hidden in a nearby flowerbed, another Glock was found, which had been modified with a "giggle switch" to convert it into a machine gun.

Ricardo Glass and Onosetale Okojie are now facing multiple charges, including carrying a pistol without a license, unauthorised use of a vehicle, and unlawful possession of a machine gun.

The Capitol Police have confiscated more than 30 firearms over the course of the year.

A new analysis of data from&nbsp;the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) has shown that&nbsp;gun-related deaths among children in the United States&nbsp;reached a peak in 2021, claiming 4,752 young lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Out of those fatalities, 64.3 per cent&nbsp;were homicides, 29.9 per cent&nbsp;were suicides and 3.5 per cent&nbsp;resulted from unintentional injury, according to the analysis.&nbsp;

Dr&nbsp;Chethan Sathya, the lead author of the study and&nbsp;a pediatric trauma surgeon at Northwell Health in New York said the most likely reason someone's kid was to die from in the US was&nbsp;the use of a firearm.&nbsp;

“This is undoubtedly one of our chief public health crises in this country. The most likely reason that your child will die in this country is at the hands of a firearm. That’s not acceptable,” said Sathya, whose study was published Monday (August 21) in the journal Pediatrics.&nbsp;

The increase in gun-related deaths in 2021 surprised researchers&nbsp;who said they were expecting to see a decrease, following their sharp increase in 2020 when kids were forced to be confined to homes due to pandemic-induced lockdowns.&nbsp;

“This was surprising to many of us,” said Sathya, adding that the US has&nbsp;potentially entered an “alarming new baseline”, where gun-related death among children may continue to rise.&nbsp;

The report states that Black children continue to be disproportionately affected by gun-related deaths. They accounted for nearly 68 per cent of all gun-related homicides, which was a twofold increase from 2020 numbers.&nbsp;

“Structural inequity, structural racism, social determinants of health, food insecurity are all root drivers of violence.&nbsp;including gun violence," said Sathya when quizzed about the disparity in numbers.&nbsp;

Sathya's research is not the only one that points towards the growing trend of gun-related deaths among children. A Pew Research report&nbsp;released earlier this year stated that the number of children and teens killed by gunfire increased by 50 per cent between 2019 and 2021.&nbsp;

The US has long been associated with gun violence as mass shootings, especially in schools and colleges, have become a routine phenomenon. The data by Dr Sathya and Pew research, now, corroborates the anecdotal evidence.

New York rocked by series of shooting incidents on 4th of July; 2 killed, 11 injured

In yet another shooting in the United States, six people were shot, one fatally. The latest shooting incident took place in Charleston County, South Carolina, just as the Memorial Day weekend drew to a close on Monday night. A CBS News report quoting the sheriff's office reports that no arrests have been made at the moment.

The shooting happened around 9:50 pm local time near a nightclub. As per the Sherrif office spokesperson, Andrew Knapp, deputies found one person slumped inside a vehicle at the scene. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.&nbsp;

Five other people were injured and have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. As per Knapp, their condition is stable and their condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

In Baltimore, Maryland, an argument between two men led to gunfire, which injured five people, around 3:30 pm (local time) on Friday, officials told NBC News.

A recent shooting incident that occurred in South Florida, United States, and left one boy dead and another man wounded was&nbsp;called a “random act” by sheriff’s officials, on Friday (May 5), as they continue to investigate what led to the shooting.&nbsp;

According to Broward County Sheriff’s officials, a gunman fatally shot a 12-year-old boy and wounded a man before turning the gun on himself inside a South Florida convenience store reported the Associated Press.&nbsp;

“Detectives do not believe there is any connection between the gunman and the victims; this does appear to be a random act,” said sheriff’s spokesman Carey Codd at a press conference on Friday. He added, “There does not appear to be a connection between the two victims.” However, further investigation into the incident is underway.&nbsp;

The report citing the county’s sheriff’s deputies, said a 29-year-old later identified as Darren Rosenthal, shot a man sitting in his car outside a 7-Eleven in South Florida’s Dania Beach. The police received an alert about the shooting at around 11:00 pm (local time), on Thursday.&nbsp;

Subsequently, Rosenthal reportedly went inside the suburban Fort Lauderdale store and killed the 12-year-old boy before killing himself. The names of the 12-year-old boy killed and the man injured have not been released. Meanwhile, a store worker Maximo Limas said Rosenthal gave no warning before he started shooting, as per AP.&nbsp; 
 
The man wounded was “chilling in his car, minding his business,” before Rosenthal allegedly shot him in the neck, said Limas, as quoted by the US media reports. He added, “He killed a…boy and he just killed himself”.&nbsp;

“He shot a customer (and) the kid just wanted to buy ice cream. That's all he was doing,” said Limas. According to the officials, the boy died on the scene. Media reports citing Miami-Dade County court records have reported that the perpetrator had several misdemeanour drugs and alcohol-related arrests about eight years ago. &nbsp;

US: ‘Random’ shooting killed 12-year-old boy at Florida store, left man injured, say cops

An Indian man pursuing higher education in the United States has died of gunshot wounds while working at a fuel station. The 24-year-old, as per a PTI report, was pursuing a Master's Degree in the US. He has been identified as Saiesh Veera, a native of the South-Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Veera was fatally shot in the Columbus division of Ohio State on Thursday.

The police in a statement identified the victim. They said: "On April 20, 2023, at 12:50 am, Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Broad St. on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located an adult male victim, identified as SAIESH VEERA, M/O/24, suffering from a gunshot wound."

Reportedly, Columbus Fire personnel found him in critical condition. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1.27 am.

An online fundraising campaign has been launched to fund the transport of his body back to his native place.&nbsp;

Rohit Yalamanchili, who is overseeing the online fundraiser, said that the deceased youth's graduation from his master's course was just 10 days away. Veera was reportedly the first in his family to have travelled to the US for studies.&nbsp;His father had passed away two years prior.

24-year-old masters student from India shot dead in United States' Ohio; police release pics of suspect

In yet another incident of US children falling prey to gun violence, a two-year-old boy in Texas killed himself after he accidentally fired a shot.

He was a resident of Waco city, found a gun in the backpack of one of his relatives. The gun and the child were left unattended.

Upon spotting the gun, the two-year-old boy reached out for the fun and shot himself in the head.

The boy was rushed to the hospital as soon as he was found, but he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, an official police statement read.

As per the local police, the gun belonged to a 21-year-old relative of the minor who fled the scene of crime with the gun, immediately after the incident.

However, he later returned along with the weapon and was immediately detained on charges of evidence tampering.

This incident has added to the tragic and long list of children falling prey to unintentional shootings and the rising gun violence in the US.

"Every year, hundreds of children in the United States gain access to unsecured, loaded guns in closets and nightstand drawers, in backpacks and purses, or just left out," Everytown For Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy organisation said on its website. "With tragic regularity, children find these unsecured guns and unintentionally shoot (themselves) or someone else."

The group also states that more than 1,500 people have been injured in unintentional shootings and at least 765 have been killed between 2015 and 2020. In 2021, at least 111 people have been killed in gun violence.
