One of the most-widely used dictionaries, Merriam-Webster is set to change the definition of “racism” after a young black woman suggested the word should reflect the oppressive realities faced by many people of colour.

A graduate from Drake University in Iowa, Kennedy Mitchum contacted the dictionary makers to improve its definition of racism.

"I basically told them that they need to include that there's a systematic oppression upon a group of people," she told a local news outlet. "It's not just, 'Oh, I don't like someone.'"

Peter Sokolowski, the editorial head of Merriam-Webster told news agency AFP that Mitchum’s request will be entertained and the meaning updated.

According to the Sokolowski, the dictionary has three available definitions of racism, and that it does touch on oppression. But with the new definition coming up, they intend to “make that even more clear in next release".

Racism is defined as "a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles," and "a political or social system founded on racism” in the current edition.

Not just the word, but corollary worlds about racism will be updated to acknowledge oppression. He said, words "related to racism or have racial connotations" will be updated based on the new definition.

Additionally, he also apologised on behalf of the company for not addressing the issue sooner. "We apologize for the harm and offense we have caused in failing to address this issue sooner”.

One of Hollywood's cult classic 'Gone With The Wind' which released in 1939, has been pulled down by HBO Max from its liberary temporarily amid racial protest. 
 
The film, which is based on Margaret Mitchell's 1936 book by the same name, has long been a point of discussion for its depiction of Black people and its positive view of slavery. 
 
A few days earlier, the film again came under scrutiny when '12 Years A Slave' screenwriter John Ridley wrote an op-ed appeared for Los Angeles Times. 
 
In the article titled 'Hey, HBO, 'Gone With the Wind' romanticizes the horrors of slavery. Take it off your platform for now', the Oscar winner argued that the film had its "own unique problem". 
 
"It doesn't just 'fall short' with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color," Ridley wrote. 
 
"It is a film that, as part of the narrative of the 'Lost Cause', romanticizes the Confederacy in a way that continues to give legitimacy to the notion that the secessionist movement was something more, or better, or more noble than what it was 'a bloody insurrection to maintain the 'right' to own, sell and buy human beings," he added. 
 
Meanwhile, HBO Max, a recently launched streaming service from WarnerMedia, said the film will eventually return but will feature a "discussion of its historical context and a denouncement" of its racist depictions. 
 
"'Gone With The Wind' is a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society. These racist depictions were wrong then and are wrong today, and we felt that to keep this title up without an explanation and a denouncement of those depictions would be irresponsible.

After his tweets, many brand partners like Reebok pulled out of their arrangements. Glasmman issued an apology on Sunday and asserted that the company “will not stand for racism”.

There are plenty of apps claiming to be able to listen into police audio that have been popular during the recent wave of protests in the United States.

But these apps wouldn't allow you to interfere with a police device - or to "black out police equipment" as the president suggested.

Buffalo police say their dispatch channels are not encrypted, and there are even websites that broadcast police calls.

If someone&nbsp; is attempting to jam police radio signals, that person wouldn't need to be physically close to an officer.

However, most modern radio systems used by emergency services have defences against such jamming, says Professor Alan Woodward, a cyber security expert at Surrey University.

"In any event, even if you were attempting to scan police radios in order to jam them using a mobile phone, which is what the man appeared to be holding, this is not the equipment you would use. You would need much more sophisticated scanning equipment.

"In terms of interfering with police communications frequencies, mobile phones simply don't have components that work at those frequencies," he adds.

Twitter,&nbsp;which has censored previous tweets by the president, said this tweet did not violate its rules.

Derek Chauvin, the 44-year-old police officer who knelt on Floyd was charged with second and third-degree murder, with his previous bail set at $1 million. However, on Tuesday, the bail was raised by $250,000 to $1.25 million.

The officer from Minneapolis appeared in front of the court via video call and was seen in an orange jumpsuit with handcuffs.

Calling for the Department of General Services to remove the towering statue of Lee, Governor Northam acknowledged the move could stir anger among admirers of the commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia.

"Yes, that statue has been there for a long time. But it was wrong then and it is wrong now, so we're taking it down," Northam said last week.&nbsp;

At the time of the American Civil War, Virginia had been a slave-owning state, and Richmond had been the capital of the rebel Confederate states.

"Yes, that statue has been there for a long time. But it was wrong then and it is wrong now, so we're taking it down," Northam said last week. At the time of the American Civil War, Virginia had been a slave-owning state, and Richmond had been the capital of the rebel Confederate states. The officer from Minneapolis appeared in front of the court via video call and was seen in an orange jumpsuit with handcuffs.

In the video that went viral after Floyd’s death, the officer was seen kneeling on the man for almost nine minutes, even when he was repeatedly telling the officer about his inability to breathe. It was only when the ambulance arrived that the officer retracted his knee from the neck. An hour later, Floyd was dead.

Matthew Frank, the Minnesota Assistant Attorney General has advised against giving bail to Chauvin, and fears that the former officer might flee at the slightest opportunity, given the uproar caused by his actions.

The earliest amount for bail was set at $750,000, after which it was raised to $1 million with conditions. The current bail order has no conditions.

Depp put up a long post along with the video where he talked about the origin of the song in November 1963, just weeks before John F Kennedy was assassinated.

Johnny Depp sings Bob Dylan's 'The Times They Are A-Changin’ as a tribute to Geroge Floyd

Fans of the popular South Korean boy band BTS matched its $1 million donation to Black Lives Matter (BLM) in support of U.S. protests against police brutality, an organisation that runs fundraisers for the fans said on Monday. 
 
The K-pop group`s music label, Big Hit Entertainment, on Sunday told Reuters that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/bts-and-big-hit-entertainment-donate-1-million-to-black-lives-matter-protest-303976">BTS had donated $1 million</a> to BLM in early June. 
 
The seven-member BTS wrote on its Twitter account on Thursday that they are against racism and violence with the hashtag BlackLivesMatter. 
 
"We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together." 
 
The hashtag went viral among the group`s fans and started another wave of donations with the hashtag MatchAMillion. 
The movement encouraged BTS` fan base, known as ARMY, an acronym for Adorable Representative MC for Youth, to match the group`s $1 million donation. 
 
On Monday, One In An ARMY (OIAA), a group that runs donation campaigns in the name of the BTS fan base, in a statement said the live donation total surpassed $817,000 within 24 hours after BTS` donation was reported.
