India's online gaming industry is blazing through to ‘advanced levels’. The government is planning to ban three types of online games. The move comes amid a rise in cases of online gaming addiction.

What are the three kinds of online games that the Government of India plans to ban?

Police in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh claimed to have uncovered a racket involving religious conversion through an alleged gaming app. The Ministry of Home Affairs and the UP government have now sought a detailed report on the case and the modus operandi used to allegedly lure the youngsters.&nbsp;

The police claimed that the gang allegedly targetted impressionable children through an online game.

The said the game required users to recite verses from the Quran in order to win. They were also shown videos of radical Islamists such as&nbsp;Zakir Naik and Tariq Jameel.

Naik is a fugitive, currently on the run from the Indian government, after fleeing the country in 2016.&nbsp;

"The accused also used to talk with the gamers (children) through a chat application and there they were shown videos of Zakir Naik and Tariq Jameel to persuade them to convert," a police officer in Ghaziabad said.

<h2>Cleric arrested from mosque&nbsp;</h2>

On Sunday, an Islamic cleric at a mosque in the Sanjay Nagar area of Ghaziabad was arrested in connection with the case.

The police acted after a father from Faridabad reported his son had been converted by someone he met online and had been visiting the mosque.&nbsp;

The cleric arrested has been identified as&nbsp;Abdul Rehman and hails from Ballia. Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to nab the second accused, who hails from Thane in the western state of Maharashtra.&nbsp;

"On May 30, a case of religious conversion was registered at Kavi Nagar Police Station, in which two people were named and were identified as Shahnawaz Khan alias Baddo, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra and Nanni alias Abdul Rehman, a Maulvi at a mosque in Sanjay Nagar area.

Rehman has been arrested," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Ghaziabad, Nipun Agarwal.

"They don't have any proof. They, however, removed Rehman from the mosque committee's WhatsApp group on 2 June after the FIR was lodged in the conversion row," the police said.

According to the police, upon questioning the boy, they learnt that he and his friends were in contact with Rehman through a gaming app since 2021.

The boy's mother said she witnessed a change in his son's behaviour and even tried to counsel him but to no avail.&nbsp;

The police is yet to question the youth from Chandigarh who had been brainwashed to convert by the gang. Further investigation is currently underway.&nbsp;

India: Gang allegedly using gaming app for religious conversion; Centre seeks detailed report

The Karnataka High Court&nbsp;on Thursday overturned the imposition of Goods and Services Tax (GST) worth Rs 21,000 crore&nbsp;on Gameskraft Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (GTPL).&nbsp;

The Karnataka High Court's ruling is expected to bring much-need clarity on the tax liabilities&nbsp;of online gaming platforms and establish&nbsp;a precedent that could influence similar cases in the future.

In his&nbsp;judgment, Justice S.R. Krishna Kumar established a distinction between 'games of skill' and 'games of chance', adding that the former was outside the purview of 'betting and gambling', and therefore exempt from GST.&nbsp;

In November 2021, officials from the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence&nbsp;had conducted a search and seizure operation at GTPL's premises. Consequently, GST authorities froze GTPL's bank accounts, alleging that the gaming company had suppressed taxable value by claiming discounts.

The authorities had also argued that the amounts staked by participating players on the GTPL platforms constituted taxable "betting and gambling".&nbsp;

Gameskraft Technologies challenged the order before the Karnataka High Court, which allowed the company to operate its bank accounts for specific purposes.&nbsp;

While the hearing concluded in September 2022 and the judgment was reserved, GST authorities issued an Intimation Notice demanding a staggering Rs 21,000 crore.&nbsp;

They claimed that GTPL had misclassified its supply as services and engaged in the supply of 'actionable claims', which&nbsp;required GST payment under the Central Goods and Services Tax Rules. The company promptly challenged the Intimation Notice in the Karnataka High Court, which stayed its operation.

Interestingly,&nbsp;the All India Gaming Federation and E-Gaming Federation decided to&nbsp;intervene&nbsp;in support of Gameskraft Technologies in the Karnataka High Court, after recognising the significant impact this case could have on the online gaming industry.&nbsp;

'Call of Duty' steers activision sales

Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the US filed a complaint on Thursday (December 8) that was aimed at blocking Microsoft's USD 69 billion bid to buy 'Call of Duty' maker gaming giant Activision. This is the biggest ever deal in the gaming industy. The FTC has filed the complaint over concerns that the deal would thwart competition.

Microsoft, the maker of gaming console Xbox had announced in January 2022 that it was buying Activision for USD 68.7 billion.

Microsoft President Brad Smith said they would fight the FTC. "While we believed in giving peace a chance, we have complete confidence in our case and welcome the opportunity to present our case in court," he said.

FTC said that Microsoft has a record of buying major gaming content and then using it to suppress competition.

"Microsoft has already shown that it can and will withhold content from its gaming rivals," said Holly Vedova, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition. "Today we seek to stop Microsoft from gaining control over a leading independent game studio and using it to harm competition in multiple dynamic and fast-growing gaming markets."

Shares in Microsoft and Activision both fell on news of the FTC complaint. Shares in Activision were down 2.3%, or $1.78 to $74.16, while Microsoft was down from earlier highs but still up 1% for the day to $246.78.

In a major crackdown on unlicensed online gaming businesses, the Philippines government on Tuesday announced that it will shut more than 175 gambling dens and deport about 40,000 Chinese workers.

In a major crackdown on unlicensed online gaming businesses, the Philippines government on Tuesday announced that it will shut more than 175 gambling dens and deport about 40,000 Chinese workers. “The crackdown was triggered by reports of murder, kidnapping and other crimes committed by Chinese nationals against fellow Chinese nationals,” said justice ministry spokesperson Jose Dominic Clavano. The ministry said the measure was aimed at sending a strong message after the crime rate skyrocketed across the country. "This is really our job to society and to make sure that these crimes are not committed. We thought it best to send a signal that this type of behaviour is not tolerable, it's not acceptable to the country." Read more: US may use our military bases in case of a Taiwan conflict, says Philippine ambassador to the US The Philippine offshore gaming operators or POGOs had mushroomed in the country after 2016 when President Rodrigo Duterte started to pursue a closer relationship with China. The gambling industry peaked around 2020 when it raked in approximately $122 million and employed nearly 300,000 Chinese workers. However, the meteoric rise of POGO's also led to an increase in crimes as individuals, mostly Chinese engaged in kidnapping, prostitution and murder, according to the ministry. The regulators informed that only 30 POGO's had licenses to run operations in the country while the rest were either running on expired or revoked licenses. The Chinese embassy in a statement batted for the move and added POGO's were hurting the relationship between the two countries, "Crimes induced by and associated with online gambling not only harm China's interests and China-Philippines relations, but also hurt the interests of the Philippines." Gambling is strictly banned in mainland China and since last year, the Xi Jinping regime has enforced gaming laws as well, restricting the gaming time of kids and teenagers. In what has turned out to be the biggest-ever show cause notice served by it, India's Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has asked a gaming company why it has failed to pay Goods and Services Tax (GST) amounting to USD 2.58 billion. The company on the receiving end is Gamesraft, an online gaming company based in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru, India's IT hub, reported CNN News 18.

It is said to be the biggest amount of show cause notice issued in the history of indirect taxation.&nbsp;

Gameskraft has been accused of promoting betting, an offence in India, through its games like Rummy Culture, Gamezy, Rummy Time, etc.

The company faces accusation of evading tax on betting amounts of USD 8.73 billion, says the report.&nbsp;

DGGI is an apex intelligence organisation functioning under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes &amp; Customs, department of revenue, Union ministry of finance, entrusted with the task of collection, collation and dissemination of intelligence relating to evasion of Goods and Services Tax across India.

DGGI found during the investigation that Gameskraft had not provided invoices for money its customers paid. Sometimes, even backdated invoices were provided.

The DGGI report mentioned by CNN News 18 says that the gaming company was inducing people to resort to betting as there was no provision to return money to the customer once he deposited it in the online wallet.

The report said that Gameskraft Technology Private Limited (GTPL) allowed its customers to engage in betting by letting them place money bets. It allowed betting on the card games that were being played online.

Gameskraft was founded in 2017 by a group of gamers.

Gameskraft e-mailed a statement to WION on September 26 explaining their stand on the matter. Here's what the company said,

"Games of skill are a constitutionally protected activity per the Supreme Court and various High Courts across the country. Rummy is one such game declared to be a skill game like horse racing, bridge and fantasy games. Therefore the notice is a departure from the well established law of the land. As a responsible start-up with Unicorn status in the online skill gaming sector, we have discharged our GST and Income Tax liabilities as per standard industry practice, which is now over a decade old. We are confident that we will be able to respond to this notice to the full satisfaction of the authorities since they have sought to apply 28% tax applicable to games of chance and lottery, instead of the 18% applicable to online platforms of games of skill"

India's tax intel wing slaps $2.58bn notice on gaming company that runs online rummy

Indian online gaming company WinZO has filed a lawsuit against Google, alleging that the internet giant's decision to permit real-money fantasy sports and rummy games on its platform is discriminatory. A copy of the lawsuit was obtained by Reuters.&nbsp;

The WinZO app includes real-money games in those categories as well as a number of others that Google continues to reject, such as carrom, riddles, and racing games. As a result, it will not be able to take advantage of the recently enacted Google policy.

For years, the Google division of Alphabet Inc. prohibited games involving real money in India, but this month it announced that as part of a year-long pilot test, games like fantasy sports and rummy may enter its Play Store marketplace in the nation.&nbsp;

In a policy update, Google stated that these two groups included games in which competitors exploited their knowledge of sporting events and athletes, planned ahead, or memorised the order of playing cards. Other game forms and how they are handled were not mentioned.

WinZO claimed in its complaint brought before the Delhi High Court that it had contacted Google on September 10 to protest the revised policy because it was "unfair."&nbsp;

In its lawsuit, WinZO said that because it had received no response, it was forced to seek legal assistance and that Google's decision "amounts to unfair trade practice."&nbsp;

"All games of skill enjoy constitutional protection," it continued.

The complaint was filed on Monday, according to a person with firsthand knowledge, and it will be heard in the coming weeks.&nbsp;

Regarding the case, Google refuses to comment. The business has previously stated that it was "taking a measured approach that will help us aggregate learnings" through its pilot programme.&nbsp;

WinZO is valued at more than $350 million and is supported by Griffin Gaming Partners, a venture capital business based in the United States.

An Indian government panel has requested the establishment of a regulatory body to categorise online games as being based on skill or chance, introduce rules to block prohibited formats, and take a stricter stance on gambling websites. This legal challenge comes at the same time as those requests.&nbsp;

Foreign investors have supported the gaming businesses Dream11 and Mobile Premier League (MPL), which are both incredibly popular for playing fantasy cricket. These investors include Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital.&nbsp;

WinZO claims to have 85 million users in India, and that each of them uses the platform for an hour a day on average. According to the lawsuit, WinZO made around $13 million in annual income in 2020–21.

Indian 'fantasy' gaming platform sues Google to stop new gaming policy, calls it discriminatory

It was last year this month that the Xi Jinping government in China started a crackdown on the gaming industry by describing video games as ‘spiritual opium’. A year on and China's biggest technology giant, Tencent Holdings is mulling venturing overseas.

It was last year this month that the Xi Jinping government in China started a crackdown on the gaming industry by describing video games as ‘spiritual opium’. A year on and China's biggest technology giant, Tencent Holdings is mulling venturing overseas. Reportedly, during the Tencent Game Developers Conference that started on Sunday this week, the Shenzhen-based company highlighted the opportunities that lay outside mainland China, both for its in-house IPs and products developed by other Chinese developers. Xia Lin, vice-president of Tencent Games stated that the Chinese games had a vast growth potential in markets like Southeast Asia, West Asia as well as Latin America. Lin further added that the 'sheer' number of users and game downloads from the aforementioned regions had dwarfed the demand of the Chinese market. Tencent's overseas revenue has grown by four per cent to $1.56 billion in the first quarter of the year. Meanwhile, the revenue on the domestic front fell by one per cent. Moreover, owing to the gaming restrictions, the Chinese regulators are yet to secure a single licence to develop and publish new games. Earlier this month, 69 video game licenses were distributed but not a single one went Tencent's way. Xi Jinping's crusade to neuter the tech sector As reported extensively by WION, last year, Xi Jinping, on his crusade to teach the tech sector a lesson, went after nearly every big company. While Alibaba's Jack Ma mysteriously disappeared from the public eye for several weeks and the company's IPO tanked, Tencent and its fortunes were tied in a cul-de-sac as the CCP came riding with its restrictive laws. Read More: Three hours a week: China's new rules for children playing video games Reportedly, under the restrictions, anyone under 18 years old can only play video games three hours a week, or one hour per day at 8 PM on Fridays through Sundays, that is, the weeknights. The restrictions came into force in September 2021 and since then, they have remained in effect. According to the Game Publishing Committee of the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association, the total number of gamers in China fell for the first time since 2015 to 665.69 million from 665.57 million. Meanwhile, the industry’s revenue dropped 1.8 per cent to $21.9 billion in the first six months of the year, compared to the same period last year. The numbers may not look astronomical but the fact that China's once booming gaming industry is showing signs of a slowdown has given Tencent, the world's largest video gaming business by revenue, a reason enough to pivot overseas. Gamers rejoice! Because a study has concluded that gaming does not have effect on people's well-being. The study has been carried out by Oxford University. Actual gameplay was tracked rather than just a survey of experience of gamers. Data shared by seven game publishers was used in the study. Gameplay habits of 40,000 gamers were tracked with their consent.

Andy Przybylski, one of the researchers, said that the large scale of the study provided a strong evidence that gaming did not have any effect on wellbeing of gamers.

“With 40,000 observations across six weeks, we really gave increases and decreases in video game play a fair chance to predict emotional states in life satisfaction, and we didn’t find evidence for that – we found evidence that that’s not true in a practically significant way,” said Przybylski who was quoted by The Guardian.

Players were asked whether they were playing for healthy reasons, such as socialising with friends and having fun or negative ones such as feeling of compulsion to satisfy goals in the game. It was found that even those who wanted to play due to negative reasons tended to report an overall satisfaction.

There was a note of caution in the study though. Though it was found that gaming didn't affect wellbeing, the observation did not hold true if a gamer increased his or her gaming time by 10 hours of the day.&nbsp;

Gaming doesn't have effect on wellbeing, says Oxford University study

It is just the beginning for the video gaming market in Africa. The number of gamers has increased in recent years and the market's untapped potential is immense with many expecting it to explode as the continent produces more content.

Experts expect videogame market to boom in Africa as gaming content grows

Josh Wardle, a software engineer in Brooklyn, knew his partner loved word games, so he created a guessing game for just the two of them. As a play on his last name, he named it Wordle.

But after the couple played for months, and after it rapidly became an obsession in his family’s WhatsApp group once he introduced it to relatives, Wardle thought he might be on to something and released it to the rest of the world in October.

On Nov. 1, 90 people played.

On Sunday, just over two months later, more than 300,000 people played.

It’s been a meteoric rise for the once-a-day game, which invites players to guess a five-letter word in a similar manner as the guess-the-color game Mastermind. After guessing a five-letter word, the game tells you whether any of your letters are in the secret word and whether they are in the correct place. You have six tries to get it right.

Few such popular corners of the internet are as low-frills as the website, which Wardle built himself as a side project. There are no ads or flashing banners; no windows pop up or ask for money. There is merely the game on a black background.

“I think people kind of appreciate that there’s this thing online that’s just fun,” Wardle said in an interview on Monday. “It’s not trying to do anything shady with your data or your eyeballs. It’s just a game that’s fun.”

This is not Wardle’s first brush with suddenly capturing widespread attention. Formerly a software engineer for Reddit, he created two collaborative social experiments on the site, called The Button and Place, that each were phenomena in their moment.

But Wordle was built without a team of engineers. It was just him and his partner, Palak Shah, killing time during a pandemic.

Wardle said he first created a similar prototype in 2013, but his friends were unimpressed and he scrapped the idea. In 2020, he and Shah “got really into” the New York Times Spelling Bee and the daily crossword, “so I wanted to come up with a game that she would enjoy,” he said.

The breakthrough, he said, was limiting players to one game per day. That enforced a sense of scarcity, which he said was partially inspired by the Spelling Bee, which leaves people wanting more, he said.

Word games have proved immensely popular for The Times and other companies in recent years, and many such as the Spelling Bee have developed devoted fan followings.

But since Wordle was built originally for just Wardle and Shah, the initial design ignored a lot of the growth-hacking features that are virtually expected of games in the current era. While other games send notifications to your phone hoping you’ll come back throughout the day, Wordle doesn’t want an intense relationship.

“It’s something that encourages you to spend three minutes a day,” Wardle said. “And that’s it. Like, it doesn’t want any more of your time than that.”

Wordle lacked the ability to share results until mid-December. Wardle noticed players sharing their results by typing out a grid of green, yellow and black emojis, so he built an automated way for players to brag about their successes in a spoiler-free way.

If he were optimizing the game to gain as many players as possible, he would have included a link at the end of the tweet that the tool generates, he said. But after looking into it, he said it would have looked “trashy” and not as visually compelling, and he liked the grid’s mysterious air, which he felt piqued people’s interest.

While Shah was the lucky recipient of the first game, she has played a key role in getting it ready for the public, Wardle said. An initial list of all of the five-letter words in the English language — about 12,000 — contained a lot of obscure words that would have been near impossible to guess.

So he created another game for Shah: This time, she would sort through those 12,000 or so words, designating whether or not she knew them. That narrowed down the list of Wordle words to about 2,500, which should last for a few years. (Already, a few words have riled up the fans: Some were upset by REBUS and TAPIR, saying they were not familiar enough.)

Shah says she wakes up every day with a new routine: She warms up with the Spelling Bee, which gets her mind right for Wordle. She also loves the New York Times Crossword and cryptic crosswords.

Though Wordle is now shared with the world, she said she appreciated that Wardle originally created it for her.

“It’s really sweet,” she said. “This is definitely how Josh shows his love.”

India's online gaming industry is worth more than $1 billion. By 2022, there will be more than 500 million online gamers in the country. Is it time to regulate this cash-rich sector? Palki Sharma tells you what happened when the parliament debated online gaming.

Gravitas: Will India regulate online gaming?

Epic Games, the US tech giant has said that it will shut down its hugely popular battle royale survival game Fortnite in China. This has come months after Chinese authorities imposed strict curbs as part of their crackdown on the technology sector. China is world's biggest gaming market.

The regulatory crackdown embarked on by Chinese state has affected several industries in China. The crackdown has been undertaken to tighten control over the economy. Tech firms have taken brunt of the pain.

In September, officials said they wanted to curb addiction in the gaming-mad nation by announcing drastic cuts to the amount of time children spend playing online and ordering players to use ID cards when registering.

The moves dealt a severe blow to companies' ability to make profits in the country and sent the share prices of gaming firms tumbling.

Now, Epic has pulled the plug, saying it will shut down the massively popular game on November 15.&nbsp;

"Fortnite China's Beta test has reached an end, and the servers will be closed soon," it said in a statement.&nbsp;
"On November 15 at 11am, we will turn off game servers, and players will no longer be able to log in."

Hong Kong-listed shares of Tencent, which has a large stake in Epic, were down Tuesday. &nbsp;

The move brings an end to a long-running test of Epic's version of Fortnite specifically created for the Chinese market, where content is policed for excessive violence.

The action-packed shooter and world-building game is one of the most popular in the world, boasting more than 350 million users -- more than the population of the United States.

Epic is the second US-based company to pull a popular product from China in recent weeks, after Microsoft announced in October that it will close its career-oriented social network LinkedIn.

In September, hundreds of Chinese video game makers including Tencent vowed to better police their products for "politically harmful" content and enforce curbs on underage players, as they looked to fall into line with government demands.

The 213 gaming firms promised in a joint statement to ban content that was "politically harmful, historically nihilistic, dirty and pornographic, bloody and terrifying".

In what could mean higher compliance costs for the country’s online entertainment giants, China has now imposed regulations on gaming and live-streaming. &nbsp;

This move was announced in a newly published 10-year national guidelines on children’s development. It could increase pressure on companies, such as Tencent Holdings and ByteDance.

In 10-year plan, China imposes regulations on gaming, live-streaming for kids

In a bid to make sure the future generation does not become video game addicts; China has ordered all online gaming companies to restrict gaming hours for kids.

&nbsp;As per new regulations issued by the National Press and Publication Administration, all gaming lovers under the age of 18 will only be allowed to play for one hour now. The government has decided to reduce the gaming hours for Friday, weekends and holidays.

Now, the online gaming companies will not be allowed to provide their services to minors in any form other than 8 pm to 9 pm on the mentioned days. The companies will also have to ensure that the children use their real name for verification.

This new regulation has been implemented as the experts found out that many children had been using adult IDs to bypass the limited hours rules which allowed children to play only for 1.5 hours in a day and three hours on holidays.

The administration claims these rules have been implemented to "effectively protect the physical and mental health of minors" and has directed the online gaming companies to "always prioritise the social good and actively respond to societal concerns."

'Prioritise social good': China says kids can only play video games for 1 hour

Global streaming giant Netflix is most likely to get into video games by next year, a media report by an American website suggests. Netflix has also confirmed on Wednesday that it has hired a former Oculus, Electronic Arts and Zynga executive—Mike Verdu—as its Vice President for games development department. However, the biggest subscription-based video service refused to comment beyond their latest recruit. &nbsp;

In the past, Netflix has hinted at advancing its interest in gaming. If that is true, they will be getting into yet another ever-booming market in the entertainment vertical other than movies, documentaries and web series.&nbsp;

They have experimented with games before through their interactive, adventure-based programming like ‘Bandersnatch’ among other licensing and merchandising collaborations. In April this year, Netflix’s chief operation and product officer, Greg Peters, also spoke about the company’s interest in gaming. &nbsp;

&nbsp;“We're trying to figure out what are all these different ways... we can deepen that fandom, and certainly games are a really interesting component of that… There's no doubt that games are going to be an important form of entertainment and an important modality to deepen that fan experience,” Peters had said in a statement at the time.&nbsp;

Netflix has repeatedly pointed out that it faces stiff competition that go beyond traditional TV subscriptions and film companies. It has also spoken about gaming sites and user-based video-generating service YouTube as its toughest competitors. &nbsp;

Twitch, the world’s largest game streaming portal on Wednesday said that it was enabling multiple new labels to videos. Now, users will be able to add a transgender label to their videos among many. The gaming company hopes this move would aid inclusion among its gamers.

Daily, 30 million gamers log on to Amazon-owned Twitch, which allows people to broadcast themselves playing video games.

Among the 350 new tags are "transgender", "bisexual", "Black" and "disabled”, Reuters reported. These tags are essentially labels which gamers can add to their clips.

"This has been one of the most popular requests we've heard, and the simple truth is that we should have done this sooner," Twitch said in a blog post last week. The news was made official to users on Wednesday.

Recently, tech firms are facing increased scrutiny to make their products more inclusive to represent the transgender community. Instagram and LinkedIn recently allowed users to add their pronouns to their profiles.

Data from Twitch Tracker says that 70 per cent of its users are aged between 13-34. Collectively, they watch 68-73 million hours of gameplay everyday.

But there’s still a long way to go. In the United States alone, 18 anti-LGBTQIA+ state bills were signed in 2021 which would bar trans youth from playing sports or seeking medical help.

Video gamers can significantly improve their esport skills by training for just 10 minutes a day, a new study revealed.&nbsp;

The study also found that novice gamers benefited most when they wore a custom headset delivering transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) for 20 minutes before training sessions.&nbsp;

"Our study found that novice gamers who received tDCS over their motor cortex before training improved their performance on the specific task over five days, significantly more than novices who trained following no such stimulus," said researcher Mark Campbell, director of Lero's Esports Science Research Lab (ESRL).&nbsp;

For the study, published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior, the participants wore a custom headset designed to deliver transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS).&nbsp;

However, some received no stimulation, others just a 'sham' treatment, while the remainder received a 20-minute exposure.&nbsp;

"One of the original and most prominent esports over the past 20 years has been the first-person shooter (FPS) game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)," the researcher said.&nbsp;

"We asked participants to shoot and eliminate enemy targets as quickly and accurately as possible during their training sessions in the study," they added.&nbsp;

According to the researchers, when they examined the effect of tDCS on training compared to non-stimulated groups, they observed a significant effect of tDCS on training for left and right targets, but not centre targets.&nbsp;

The researchers said that in light of the team's findings, tDCS may be especially beneficial during the initial stages of task learning.&nbsp;

"Stroke patients, for example, could benefit from tDCS at the start of their rehabilitation process when re-learning complex movements that were once automatic," Campbell said.&nbsp;
