It`s the kind of manoeuvring that might make the Game of Thrones` shrewdest operator Tyrion Lannister feel right at home. As streaming giants Amazon, Netflix and Hulu prepare to splash out on their next fantasy blockbusters and dystopian dramas, Central European countries are slugging it out to get a grab a slice of their bumper production budgets.

Experienced crews, lower labour costs and generous production incentives have long attracted international filmmakers to the Czech Republic and Hungary but other countries in the region are now getting into the game.

The Czechs and Hungarians are both considering raising their incentives after Romania approved a production rebate of up to 45 percent in 2018 and Poland introduced a 30 percent cash rebate in February to keep pace with its neighbours.

A new European Union directive due to come in this year is also expected to spur investment as it will require video-on-demand platforms selling to European audiences to ensure at least 30 percent of their catalogues are European works.

"This is a new era," said Agnes Havas, chief executive of the Hungarian Film Fund told Reuters, noting that the Netflix series "The Crown" and Amazon Prime Video`s "Hanna" were shot in Hungary.

"What we see is we started at 30 percent (incentives) and now we are looking at the other countries in Europe and we will evaluate the situation and see whether we should potentially think about raising it again in the future."

BITG media analyst Rich Greenfield estimates Amazon will spend $5 billion to $6 billion in 2019 on content with Netflix laying out about $15 billion - and a significant portion of the Netflix budget will flow overseas.

"We are aware there is a shift in global production and you can`t ignore the big streaming companies," Anna Dziedzic of the Film Commission Poland told Reuters. In 2018 Netflix filmed "1983" in the country, the company`s first original Polish Netflix series.

"They are one of the biggest players now. You have to adjust to the changing environment and you have to have them in mind," Dziedzic told Reuters.
Amazon and Netflix declined to comment on their plans in the region.

GAME OF THRONES EFFECT

A landscape dotted with castles and rolling countryside makes central Europe a versatile setting for increasingly popular historical and fantasy shows looking to cash in on the success of series such as "Game of Thrones".

"The types of shows being shot have dramatically changed," said David Minkowski, head of production at Stillking Films, which co-produced Amazon`s neo-noir fantasy "Carnival Row" and Hulu`s historical series "Das Boot", in the Czech Republic.

"Call it the Game of Thrones effect. A lot of it is fantasy or historical that naturally gravitates to this part of the world," he told Reuters, adding that the company was now working on fantasy drama "The Witcher" for Netflix. "The typical production centres are bursting at the seams."

Dziedzic at the Film Commission Poland said she has also received requests from international companies wanting to use post-Soviet locations and brutalist Communist architecture for science fiction series.

This has helped push international investment in regional production to record highs, leaving studios booked a year in advance and crews forced to turn away work, industry professionals say.

"There is now an ever increased premium on local crew relationships and good access to infrastructure and studios which need to be planned up to 12 months in advance of production," added Stillking`s Managing Director Matthew Stillking.

"It`s a boom time ... likely to last several years as the sector becomes more competitive with a perfect storm of increased consumer viewing demand and more platforms needing content to compete for customers."

`IT WILL ROCKET`

Foreign investment in the Czech film industry leapt nearly 1.2 billion crowns to a record 4.8 billion ($210 million) on 1,072 shooting days for 38 foreign series and films in 2018, according to the Czech Film Commission.

Investment is expected to remain at that level or higher this year, though Czech plans to increase cash rebates on offer for film makers from 20 percent now could be a game changer.

"It will rocket once the incentives are raised," Pavlina Zipkova, head of the Czech Film Commission, told Reuters. "The government has not increased it yet but we strongly believe it will happen later this year."

In Hungary, spending on a total of 333 productions last year amounted to 110 billion forints (385 million), with 84 percent of the investment coming from international productions including Hollywood blockbusters "Terminator: Dark Fate" and "Gemini Man."

This was up from 108 billion in 2017, when "Red Sparrow" and "Colette" were made in Hungary but Havas at Hungary`s Film Fund expects the new EU rules to accelerate the streaming-fuelled production boom.

The rise of streaming services has also shifted the types of productions in the region. Hungary attracts more blockbuster films these days while episodic series tend to gravitate towards the Czech Republic, said Tomas Krejci, founder of Milk and Honey Pictures and Prague Studios.

This helped Prague Studio`s turnover jump more than 50 percent in 2018 - and Krejci predicts demand will remain strong as top notch crews shooting historical shows are more than a third cheaper than in rival countries such as Spain.

"The demand for historical shows is getting stronger," Krejci said whose company has produced "Haunted" for Netflix and Amazon`s "Patriot" and the second season of "Lore."

"Here it`s not just the phenomenal historic architecture but also the vast amount of props, costumes and local talent that make it cheaper and easier to make these kinds of shows."
The 'Game of Thrones' effect: Central European film industry on a roll

Perhaps one of the most pertinent question that's running on everyone's mind these days is that who will finally grace the iron throne in the finale of 'Game Of Thrones'. And while it is a closely guarded sequel, listening to a Spotify playlist might just give fans some generous hints.

The series creators David Benioff and DB Weiss created the playlist called `Game of Thrones: The End is Coming` and told For the Record, Spotify`s new site, that the playlist will answer all the questions related to the show`s ending.

"The answer to the ending is one hundred percent hidden in the playlist choices. No one will believe us, but it`s true," they said."We were looking for songs that made us feel the way the show made us feel. There`s variety in there -- Rage is not Johnny Cash. But they both have a deep inherent power," the creators added.

The titles of the songs feature a whole bunch of references to wolves, lions, winter, fire, and war, which makes a lot of sense. There are at least five songs about wolves alone, which comes as a hope that the Starks will prevail in some way. There are also a couple of references to mother, which could refer to Dany as the mother of dragons, or as the mother of Jon Snow`s baby, as many theorise will happen or it could refer to Cersei, who`s allegedly pregnant with Jaime`s baby?

`Crown on the Ground` also sticks out, probably giving a hint that no one will end up on the throne at all. We`re also wondering if `Here`s Your Future` means we might see a few glimpses into the future of the character.

`Her Black Wings` sounds like a dragon reference by title, but the track is more about death or a demon coming and seducing someone. Now that you know which playlist to listen to, dive into it and maybe by the references you know the ending of the series!`Game of Thrones` is set to return with its final season on 14th April on HBO.

With ‘Game of Thrones’ almost round the corner as the final season returns this April, there’s only one thing that all fans of the series want to know -- who will sit on the Iron Throne?

Among the only few who know the actual outcome is obviously the music composer of the show, Ramin Djawadi. Having been making music for the show since the first season, his music has also, like the show, progressing with time.

The German-Iranian composer, speaking in his studio in Santa Monica said, "I just locked myself in a room and just watched it. I watched it by myself and was just floored at what's happening and the storytelling, I thought, was unbelievable. I think it's absolutely amazing and epic."

Now in its eighth season, the show has really hooked the audience for a long time. Ramin describes how it was to make music for the show as he shows the cello that was used to anchor the show. He said, "Because there's a lot of characters coming together now and you have choices, you have thematic choices, you have musical choices and there are definitely cases where I'll write something and then I have to take a step back and go 'Should I actually write something else because this is this scene? Should I do something else?' so it's been hard for me just making a decision because once I've made that decision I have to move on onto something else and that's it. It's final. It's the final season."

On him getting separated from the show and its characters, so as to write the music, he said, "I feel like because I'm so into the characters, I write from my heart because that's how I really feel at that moment and it gets quite emotional for me," he said, adding "Sometimes I do have to take a step away and take a moment and work on something else that's not so emotionally heavy and then come back to it."

Ramin has not even allowed his wife to access the studio as he understands that all of it needs to remain a secret. He is still to make the final score and said, "I'm still tinkering because I think I can't let go because I know once I do let go, then that's it for me," he said. "I just love the show so much, I love all the people involved with it so much and it's hard. I think it will be very hard for me to say goodbye to these themes and to the show and the music and how exactly I feel when I do I just don't know yet. I'm trying to slow down time so the time doesn't come yet.”

Former 'GOT' cast reflect on their time on the series and its popularity

With barely a few days left for the last season of one of the most popular TV series, ‘Game Of Thrones’ to air, fan theories around who will finally sit on the Iron Throne and who will survive till the end are picking up the pace.

In a recent interview, Maisie Williams, who plays the role of Arya Stark, said that there will be a lot of deaths in the final season which means a lot of central characters will die, either fighting the Night King or by political influences.

So, here is a theory about how Jaime Lannister will die and who will kill him.

The previous season of ‘Game of Thrones’ has given us enough hints that point at the cause of Jaime's death by the person who loves him the most, his sister and lover Cersei Lannister.

Cersei's character is portrayed as a scornful woman who is always scheming and has remained a strong candidate to sit on the Iron Throne.

Now let's talk about the incidents that hinted at how Jamie will die.

In the first episode of the seventh seven, when Cersei was talking to Jamie while walking atop a map painted on the floor, she said, "You've been quiet since you came home. Are you angry with me?"

"No, not angry," Jamie replied. She then asked him, "Are you afraid of me?"

And Jamie shockingly asked, "Should I be?"

Cersei did not reply and started talking about Daenerys Targaryen, who had crossed the Narrow Sea and landed at the Dragonstone. While she sidestepped the question, we can’t ignore this point.

In season seven when Jaime attacked Highgarden to kill Olenna Tyrell, who had made an alliance with Daenerys, his intention was to kill her and take the gold reserve to pay off the debts of Iron Bank.

The conversation between Jaime and Olenna, however, took a very interesting turn and can be considered as one of the most important scenes of the season.

Olenna, as she sat alone at a table wearing an-all black dress, told Jaime, "You love her [Cersei]." She further added, "You poor fool. She'll be the end of you."

Also in the fifth episode, when Ser Bronn Of The Blackwater pulled Jaime out of the lake, he said "Listen to me, c**t. Till I get what I'm owed, a dragon doesn't get to kill you. You don't get to kill you. Only I get to kill you."

There is a possibility that Cersei might give Bronn whatever is owed, whether a sack of gold or a castle and ask Bronn to kill Jaime.

But so far Bronn's personality has been clean but still, his character cannot be trusted. Remember when Tyrion Lannister asked him to be his champion in the trial by combat, a trial he was facing for killing Cersei's son Joffrey?

After learning that Cersei has appointed Gregor Clegane, aka Mountain, as her champion, Tyrion was desperate to search for someone to be his champion. Both Jaime and Bronn refused to fight. Jamie because he was unable to fight anymore, and Bronn refused to risk his equation with Cersei despite his friendship with Tyrion.

Bronn told him that he is a man of money. He himself once said that "you pay me to kill people who bother you."

Tyrion even told him that "you and my sister deserve each other" as his alliance with Cersei was evident.

With barely a few days left for the last season of one of the most popular TV series, ‘Game Of Thrones’ to air, fan theories around who will finally sit on the Iron Throne and who will survive till the end are picking up the pace.

Are you angry with me?" "No, not angry," Jamie replied. She then asked him, "Are you afraid of me?" And Jamie shockingly asked, "Should I be?" Cersei did not reply and started talking about Daenerys Targaryen, who had crossed the Narrow Sea and landed at the Dragonstone. She'll be the end of you." Also in the fifth episode, when Ser Bronn Of The Blackwater pulled Jaime out of the lake, he said "Listen to me, c**t. Till I get what I'm owed, a dragon doesn't get to kill you. You don't get to kill you. Only I get to kill you." There is a possibility that Cersei might give Bronn whatever is owed, whether a sack of gold or a castle and ask Bronn to kill Jaime. He himself once said that "you pay me to kill people who bother you." Tyrion even told him that "you and my sister deserve each other" as his alliance with Cersei was evident. When Oberyn Martell once asked him an unexpected question that how he became a knight from a sellsword, he replied, "Killed the right people I suppose". Remember when Bronn fixed Jaime and Tyrion's secret meeting? Cersei knew about it. She told Jaime, "Do you think anything of importance happens in this city without me knowing?" There is a possibility that Bronn is actually working for Cersei. Will Bronn kill Jaime? Now finally, the third hint was in the last episode of season seven, when Jaime was making plans with other Lords in the courtyard of King's Landing for expedition north after Cersei agreed to march along Dany and Jon Snow to fight the Night King. Cersei, who was watching from the level one, interrupted and asked the other Lords to leave as she wanted to talk to Jaime alone. She said, "Expedition north? In reply to that, Cersei accused him of plotting with the younger brother Tyrion Lannister and called his expedition north treason. She had already mentioned it once that he should never "betray" her. When Jamie was leaving, Cersei even nodded, in a way, gave instructions to her guard, the Mountain to kill Jaime. Difficult circumstances have changed Jaime's behaviour and his relationship with Cersei has already soured. 'Game of Thrones': Will Cersei end up killing her brother Jaime Lannister in the final season?

Anyone who is a fan of 'Game of Thrones' would also swear by its hugely popular background music that runs through and through every season. Picking up and dropping at times, in accordance with the changing sequence of events in the series, the music made by composer Ramin Djawadi has it all takes to become hit with the audience.

As the makers gear up for the eighth and final season of the show to return to the air on April 14, the music composer reveals that he has big plans. Hinting at what's in store for us, Ramin said that the music score of the final season is intense and epic.

Without giving out spoilers, he said, the score "definitely gets intense and more epic than ever", according to reports variety.com.

It started out intentionally small but as the story expanded, the dragons arrived, the battles grew, the drama got bigger and bigger, the music had to grow with it. We added bigger orchestras, more choir, more instrumentation all around." When the 'GoT' executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Souvenirs and secrets as 'Game of Thrones' cast walk last red carpet

This is officially the month when ‘Game of Thrones’ returns.

With barely ten days left for the show to make a comeback after a gap of two years, the makers of the hit HBO show have released a new teaser.

At the start of the teaser, it looks like a scene out of Winterfell as the entire landscape is full of ice and snow with bodies lying here and there. A closeup at the bodies and you will be horrified to see all characters of the show that matter, are half-buried in the snow presumably dead.

All the bodies have been arranged on the snow bed as though to make a large figure of the Iron Throne -- the same seat that everybody is fighting for. Not everybody though as the Night King is fighting against all humanity.

'Game of Thrones' star Maisie Williams confirms there is a lot of death this year

Pakistani waiter Rozi Khan had never heard of the 'Game of Thrones' -- or its hugely popular character Tyrion Lannister -- until his striking resemblance to the dwarf anti-hero got heads turning at home. See new poster from the series.

The 25-year-old resembles actor Peter Dinklage, the actor who has played the witty and wily nobleman since the hit series' first season in 2010. The Pakistani regularly gets stopped by strangers desperate for a picture. "I don't mind. A lot of my pictures have been taken, that's why I have become very famous everywhere," he said.

Not only are Khan and Dinklage's faces strikingly similar, but they are also the same height at around 135 cms (4 ft 5in).

Photographs of the pair have unsurprisingly made their way onto social media showing the doppelgangers side-by-side.

"Wherever I go, someone says to me: 'Sir, who is this man with you on Facebook', I say that he is my friend. 'He looks like you'. I tell them he is my brother. It's not a bad thing," said Khan.

The television series has won 47 Emmys -- more than any other fictional show in history -- along with a Golden Globe for Dinklage, 49, for best-supporting actor in 2012.

The much anticipated final series is set to premiere on April 17.

As for Khan, he works at a small Kashmiri restaurant down a narrow line in Rawalpindi, serving customers hearty dishes such as mutton and spinach curries.

Owner Malik Aslam Pervez described him as a hard worker -- and also a drawcard for the eatery.

"When he takes a day off or gets sick, people look for him and ask where did he go? They get upset. They love him. There is always a crowd here but it has boomed because of him," he said.

Born in Mansehra in northern Pakistan, Khan says he would love to meet Dinklage, describing him as a friend and brother.

"I love him very much, he is my friend... he is my height so I like him a lot," said Khan.

For customers, seeing Tyrion Lannister in the flesh is also a thrill.

"When I saw him, I'm happy, I feel that I met with Lannister in real [life]," said Zain Hadri, 20.

'Game of Thrones,' tells the story of noble families vying for control of the Iron Throne, all the while keeping one eye on the 'White Walkers' leading hordes of the undead toward an invasion from the North.

Winter is coming and HBO does not want its ‘Game of Thrones’ fans to chill as there are 16 new brand covers on a US-based magazine that you can’t miss out!

Entertainment Weekly unveiled 16 new brand covers for their upcoming issue, right before the final season premieres. The coming season in April will be its eighth and final one.

The cover unlike what you have seen before is a close-up of all major characters. It is more like a follow up of the character posters that HBO tweeted out earlier last week, of them sitting on the iron throne. It has Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, siblings Tyrion, Cersei and Jaime Lannister, sisters Sansa and Arya Stark, and several others. Certain characters such as Melsandre and Grey Worm, Lord Varys and Ser Jorah Mormont, Theon and Euron Greyjoy and The Hound and The Mountain have been paired up. The characters are in King’s Landing apparently.

Director David Nutter on the final season told EW: “The fans will not be let down. There are a lot of firsts in these episodes. There’s the funniest sequence I’ve ever shot on this show, the most emotional and compelling scene I’ve ever shot, and there’s one scene where there’s so many [major characters] together it feels like you’re watching a superhero movie.” See the first stills of the season.

It has also been revealed that the final season will have six episodes, reportedly of 90 minutes each. Co-creator and co-director of the series finale, DB Weiss explained, “When something has been sitting with you for so long, you have such a specific sense of the way each moment should play and feel.”

About the finale, he said in the report: “We’ve spent 11 years doing this. We also know no matter what we do, even if it’s the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions. There is no version where everybody says, ‘I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this’ — that’s an impossible reality that doesn’t exist. I’m hoping for the Breaking Bad [finale] argument where it’s like, ‘Is that an A or an A+?’”

'Game of Thrones' new posters reveal that everyone including the Night King will sit on the Iron Throne

We can officially say that ‘Game of Thrones’ is back as HBO released a new set of images for its upcoming season, that is the final.

As season 8 starts streaming from April 14 of this year, makers of the hit series surely know how to keep the fans interested, if there was ever a chance of not being! The pictures released show the prominent characters who are up in the race for the iron throne.

In one picture, Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke (Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen) are seen united as they look at each other with fondness (or is it love?). In another, they look at something, maybe planning their next move? Then there’s a single picture of them both.

Naomi Watts surely knows how to keep secrets closely guarded as she did not tell her fans anything about her role in ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel. At the Sundance Film Festival, Naomi did, however, say that she is very excited about everything.

At the film festival for her film ‘Luce’, she distanced herself from addressing anything on ‘Game of Thrones’. When asked to comment, she asked with a laugh, "Do you really think I'm going to tell you that? Are you trying to catch me off guard?’

She went on to say: "It's a fantastic world, isn't it? I think there are so many brilliant elements to that series that make it very exciting, very appealing. I don't want to dig myself into a big hole here... All I want to say is it's very exciting I'll say that again and again and again - and nothing else."

She was also asked if she knew anything about the ending to ‘Game of Thrones’ flagship, to which she said, "Stop, please! I can't. I just can't." Then, her Luce co-star, Octavia Spencer, chimed in from off-camera, joking that she wanted to get some spoilers: "I'm going to talk to her about this off screen!"

As far as Naomi’s character in the prequel is concerned, she will play a charismatic socialite who is hiding a dark secret. HBO hasn’t revealed anything apart from that.

The prequel hails from Jane Goldman who co-created the project with ‘Game of Thrones’ master author George RR Martin. The duo wrote the story together and will both serve as executive producers. Goldman will serve as showrunner, and other executive producers are Daniel Zelman, James Farrell, Jim Danger Gray, Vince Gerardis with Chris Symes as co-executive producer.

'Game of Thrones' first season 8 teaser has three Starks: Arya, Sansa and Jon Snow

As the world was pretty busy with the first Hollywood awards of the year, Golden Globes 2019; there’s something that HBO pulled up in the meanwhile. The show makers revealed what can be called the first footage of season 8 of their hit show ‘Game of Thrones’.

Barely a few months left for the final season to roll out (it’s happening in April this year), makers revealed footage featuring three important characters -- Sansa Stark, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. The self-proclaimed queen of the seven seas, the ‘Mother of Dragons’ is shown being greeted by Sansa as they set foot in the northernmost kingdom, Winterfell.

Sansa is seen greeting her and says: “Winterfell is yours, your grace”, but not too convincingly. It looks like she disapproves of the thought but does it as Jon was earlier declared to be King of the North. While Daenerys gives her an approving look, Jon doesn’t look too sure about what will follow.

Then shown are characters Brienne of Tarth and Ser Jorah Mormont.

Another bit from the trailer also shows the Night King riding zombie dragon, Viserion. Check out the clips here:
