'Game of Thrones The Last Watch' trailer: HBO takes fans behind-the-scenes for one last time

The world's most popular TV series, 'Game Of Thrones', may be on its last leg- with just an episode left for the finale of the series, but the final 8th season has been rated the lowest by fans worldwide.

Rating aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes revealed on Sunday that the eight and the final season of 'Game Of Thrones' has merely got a 77% rating and since only an episode is left- it is unlikely that the ratings will pick up. Even if the final season manages a 100% rating for the final two episodes, the overall rating for the season will rest at 85% which would still be the lowest the series has ever witnessed. Read the review of episode 4 here.

'Game Of Thrones' season 8 is the lowest rated season of the popular series

After a rather sad ‘Game of Thrones’ season 8 episode 4 ‘The Last of the Starks’, we can officially say that the hit series is in its final leg with only two more episodes left including the finale. Since the season’s premiere on April 14, 2019, the show has been one of the most-talked-about shows on the internet -- from its plot twists to the deaths we have seen or not (as expected). Read the review of the episode here.

With only two more episodes left, Emilia Claire who plays the fierce character of Daenerys Targaryen recently made a huge revelation about the upcoming 5th episode of 'Game of Thrones'. She said that the episode will be much bigger than expected.

We totally believe Emilia as her character herself said in the last episode that "We have won the Great War, now we will win the Last War", building the base for something big coming our way!

On the most-talked-about episode of the season, episode 3 titled ‘Long Night’, she said that it took a total number of 55 nights to shoot it.
As the episode dealt with heartbreaks and farewells, one of the most important was how Jon Snow left his dire wolf Ghost in Winterfell in the hands of Tormund the Giantsbane. Jon also left behind his best friend Samwell Tarly, his sisters (Sansa and Arya) and all others who looked up to him at his home in Winterfell but what hurt fans the most was the way he left Ghost.

Jon was shown talking to Tormund that when he leaves for North of the Wall, he must take Ghost with him as a dire wolf has no place in the South and so he can’t take the animal with him. Jon didn’t pet him, nor did he go close to him; basically there was lack of any love and compassion between two characters who have been together since season 1 of the show.

As fans have complained and asked for answers as to why Jon did not do what is expected of anyone who has a pet, the series director David Nutter has finally opened up and solved the mystery.

These are some fan reactions to the scene:

HBO's epic series 'Game Of Thrones' is on its last leg. Every week fans wait eagerly for the episodes that will eventually reveal who will claim the iron throne. The show has been lauded for its technical finesse, for its scale and for the number of twists that each of the episodes delivers. With its realistic VFX, HBO has been able to create a perfect world of fantasy set in medieval times.

Perhaps, that's why, fans could not believe the editing guffaw the show made in its latest episode. In the post-war celebration scene where the entire Westeros was drinking and dining together, a Starbucks cup also made it to the north much to everyone's amusement. Read the review of episode 4 here as Dany goes mad with anger after Cersei kills one dragon and Missandei.

After the long, deadly Battle of Winterfell, the fourth episode of 'Game of Thrones' showed Jon Snow, Davos Seaworth, Brienne, Jamie, Tyrion, Sansa, The Hound, Tormund Giantsbane reveling in the glory of their win against the Army of the Dead. In a particular scene, Dany who appears to be upset at the attention that Jon's been receiving can be seen seated and eying her man with displeasure. The scene also has a coffee cup placed right in front of actress Emilia Clarke- clearly Dany's choice of beverage is different from the rest of the people. The queen prefers coffee instead of wine or ale, it seems!

While waiting for another episode of 'Game of Thrones', diehard followers have created a new social media challenge inspired by the 'lethal' move delivered by fan favourite Arya Stark in the third chapter of the epic fantasy series.

Arya, played by Maisie Williams, started trending on Twitter over the weekend after the character pulled off what could be described as one of the most shocking and iconic moments in the history of the HBO series.

As the 'GOT' fever peaked, the next couple of days saw fans create their own renditions of the 'killer' move under the hashtags, such as #NotToday, #AryaChallenge and #TheArya.

In the latest episode, titled 'The Long Night', Arya expertly manoeuvred her Valerian steel dagger to strike an exceptional blow during an intense fight sequence in the Battle of Winterfell, something which majority of ardent fans did not see coming.

People also shared a clip pointing out Arya already lent an insight into her skill set way back in the seventh season when she successfully sparred with Ser Brienne of Tarth.

As multiple fan theories started doing the rounds on social media about what the future now holds for Westeros, the move went viral with people sharing their videos impersonating Arya and trying out her knife trick using household items.

In one of the clips, in slow motion, a man is seen brushing his hair from his left hand. He later drops it and catches the brush in his right hand and goes back to nonchalantly brushing again.

"I had to do it," he wrote in Spanish with Arya Stark and 'Game of Thrones' as hashtags.

Another video shows a woman wearing a hoodie holding a long knife in her left hand who then goes on to simultaneously faux strangle herself and drops the kitchen tool, only to almost hurt her right hand catching it.

"When your mom accidentally orders the off-brand Game of Thrones #AryaChallenge," she wrote alongside the video.

He captioned the clip: "#AryaChallenge That's the move". Here, have a look at how people are interpreting the scene. 'Game Of Thrones' latest episode 'The Long Night' gets the highest final season viewership, creates new records

The latest episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ has been a talking time ever since it aired. From being the most-talked-about episode of the season on Twitter to getting the season’s highest viewership, ‘Long Night’ has broken several past records for the show itself. Read who died and who survived the Battle of Winterfell.

* Spoilers ahead *

The episode has been a talking point for almost the entire week so far as Arya Stark killed the main evil, Night King, in the middle of the season without anyone anticipating as much. Apart from this, there has been a lot of talk around the show’s cinematography as many fans complained on the social media that the whole episode was too dark and most couldn’t see much of it. With the entire battle sequence filmed as such to show the attack in the middle of the night, the creators in trying to keep it real had very little to no light in many scenes.

Finally reacting to these, the cinematographer of the Battle of Winterfell, Fabian Wagner who has also worked for iconic GOT episodes like Battle of the Bastards and Hardhome blamed HBO for compressing the episode which led to poorer visual quality and hence the pixelation and muddy dark colours followed. He said, "[GOT] has always been very dark and a very cinematic show."

Fabian stated that the episode needs to be seen in a dark environment, like watching a movie in a theatre. He also added that before watching the episode, TV settings need to be adjusted.

He also said to avoid watching the show on the phone and explained that the showrunners and director wanted the battle scenes to be "intense, claustrophobic and disorienting," like in real life, but not confusing.

"We tried to give the viewers and fans a cool episode to watch. I know it wasn't too dark because I shot it," Fabian concluded. This is what 'Game of Thrones' cinematographer said while denying Long Night episode was dark

‘Game of Thrones’ season 8 episode 3 was huge in every aspect. It was the biggest battle that we ever saw on TV, was the longest episode on the show and it brought us to a crazy ending as Arya Stark killed Night King towards the end. This is something that no one ever expected as Arya (played by Maisie Williams) was always shown as a skilled assassin but not someone who would kill the ultimate villain.

The 22-year-old was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly after the episode went on air. On the episode she said, “It was so unbelievably exciting,” she said, adding: “But I immediately thought that everybody would hate it; that Arya doesn’t deserve it. The hardest thing is in any series is when you build up a villain that’s so impossible to defeat and then you defeat them.”

She continued: “It has to be intelligently done because otherwise people are like, ‘Well, [the villain] couldn’t have been that bad when some 100-pound girl comes in and stabs him.’ You gotta make it cool. And then I told my boyfriend and he was like, ‘Mmm, should be Jon though really, shouldn’t it?’”

Arya used valyrian steel dagger to kill the Night King that was coming to attack Bran Stark. In fact, it all comes to a full circle as this was the same dagger that was sent by Littlefinger to kill Bran when he lying with broken feet after the near-fatal fall from the tower in Winterfell. This dagger then landed in Bran’s hands who hands it to Arya in season 7.

In episode 3, Arya was seen charged after her brief interaction with Melisandre who tells her about the prophecy -- that she will kill brown eyes, green eyes and blue eyes --after which she was seen running from that room to Godswood where Bran was.

Maisie on that scene said, “When we did the whole bit with Melisandre, I realised the whole scene with [the Red Woman] brings it back to everything I’ve been working for over these past six seasons — four if you think about it since [Arya] got to the House of Black and White. It all comes down to this one very moment. It’s also unexpected and that’s what this show does. So then I was like, ‘’F*** you Jon, I get it.’”

Earlier, Maisie had also revealed that she thought her sex scene with Gendry in the previous episode was all but a joke by the creators and would not really make it.

Meanwhile, you can watch the trailer of episode 4 here.

'GoT' star Maisie Williams thought people would hate Arya Stark for killing Night King

We are three episodes down the ‘Game of Thrones’ final season after the makers treated fans with a chaos-filled last episode that had dragons fighting, Night King getting killed at the hands of Arya Stark, some people dying off and more.

Out of those alive after the Battle of Winterfell, people are very curious to know about the characters that have had a no-show in the last two episodes -- including Cersei Lannister, Euron Greyjoy and Yara Greyjoy as their lives centre outside Winterfell. Watch the trailer of episode 4 here.

Yara Greyjoy is one of the strongest female characters shown in the series -- from being a good fighter to having leadership qualities, she has it all.

Yara is played by actress Gemma Whelan who recently shared a breastfeeding picture on Instagram as she can be seen wearing her ‘GoT’ costume. Gemma gave birth to her daughter in October 2017 with husband Gerry Howell while filming for ‘Game of Thrones’ season eight was well underway. She captioned the image: “Enjoy tonight's episode guys...! Yara's got some big news...🤱🦑 👊🏼 #got #hbo #plottwistahoy”

Yara's got some big news...🤱🦑 👊🏼 #got #hbo #plottwistahoy” View this post on Instagram Enjoy tonight's episode guys...! Game Of Thrones: Battle Of Winterfell was the biggest ever but fans complained that they couldn't see anything

Season 8 of 'Game Of Thrones' started with a round of reunions. And while the backgrounds of almost all the characters have been discussed in great details in the first two episodes, not much focus has been given to the army of dead and the Night King. Until now.

Perhaps the highlight of the episode was Arya Stark finally paying heed to her feelings for her longtime friend Gendry and the two making love - with Arya losing her virginity.

Like many fans, Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark in the show had initially not the seen this moment coming. Williams in an interview to Entertainment Weekly admitted that she had initially thought show's creators DB Weiss and David Benioff were playing a prank with her.

"At first, I thought it was a prank," I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And (the showrunners were) like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’"

Since it was Williams' first intimate scene as her character, Benioff and Weiss let her decide how the scene should go.

"David and Dan were like: ‘You can show as much or as little as you want. So I kept myself pretty private," she said. "I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that. And everybody else has already done it on the show, so..."

But Williams admits that filming the scene made her uncomfortable. "In the beginning, everyone was really respectful. No one wants to make you feel uncomfortable which kind of makes you feel more uncomfortable, because no one wants to look at anything that they shouldn’t look at which in turn makes you feel like you look awful. You want people to act more normal."

We all knew that as soon as the ‘Game of Thrones’ returns to the air, fans will be dissecting each and every episode. One scene that stood out in episode 1 of season 8 was young Lord Umber plastered onto the wall by the Night King as Tormund and camp reach him. Horrifyingly, he was killed and then his dismembered body was plastered in a spiral of severed arms left behind by the White Walkers. This is how many tuned in to watch the episode 1.

The spiral pattern has led many people talking about it being the Night King’s sigil. In fact, Beric Dandarion tells Tormund in the episode that it’s a warning from the Night King to us (humans).

In an interview with New York Post, the premiere's writer Dave Hill revealed what the terrifying symbol means. He said, "As we saw with Bran and the Three-Eyed Raven, the spiral pattern was sacred to the Children of the Forest, who created the Night King by sacrificing a captured man in a spiral ‘henge of stones’. The Night King then adopted the symbol as a sort of blasphemy, like Satan with the upside-down cross.”

If you remember, the sigil was also seen in the last season in the episode titled 'The Spoils of War', where Jon Snow shows Daenerys Targaryen the carvings on the walls of the caves beneath Dragonstone. The Children of the Forest had inscribed the designs there, which represent the period in which they united with the First Men, despite being at war with them, in order to defeat the White Walkers.

We also saw in season 3 when Jon discovered remains of the Night Watch’s horses laid out in the same pattern.

‘Game of Thrones’ stars did not have it easy as they filmed a strenuous and physically-challenging show that had them stay up at odd hours, shoot in difficult weathers, go without sleep for hours and much more. Now that the hit show is in its final leg as the season 8 is here and will be the last, Sophie Turner aka Sansa Stark explains that she went through a lot of mental pressure as she shot as one of the central characters. You can read about the season 8 episode 1 review here.

In a recent interview, Sophie opened up about the impact of the fame she received as Sansa Stark on her mental health. Sophie was just a normal British teenager when she first appeared on the show in 2011. That’s when the show started. As the show rose to popularity, so did she with her character.

As it gave her newfound stardom, she revealed that all the negative comments she got for her character on social media caused a decline in her mental health. She said, "I would just believe it. I would say, ‘Yeah, I am spotty. I am fat. I am a bad actress.' I would just believe it. I would get [the costume department] to tighten my corset a lot.”

This led to the actress falling in the trap of depression. She started doubting her choices including starring in the show as she chose the show over her studies while her two brothers pursued a university education.

She added, "I just would cry and cry and cry over just getting changed and putting on clothes and be like, 'I can't do this. I can't go outside. I have nothing that I want to do'."

Sophie was quite close to harming herself too as she said, "It's weird. I say I wasn't very depressed when I was younger, but I used to think about suicide a lot when I was younger. I don't know why though."

Game Of Thrones: How fans in New York prepped for the opening episode of season 8

It’s that time of the year when the fierce battle for the iron throne resurfaces. As the final season of ‘Game Of Thrones’ begins in a less than 24 hours from now, fans across the world simply cannot keep calm.

Interestingly, when it comes to ‘Game Of Thrones’, we always talk about the grandeur of the fantasy series, the ensemble cast, and the terrific screenplay. But never really about how the technology that makes the series look larger than life.

Have you ever wondered what goes into recreating the fictional world of Westeros? It takes a whole lot more than we can ever imagine. A lot of high-end technology and new-age innovations go into making the seven kingdoms come alive.

'Grave of Thrones': Spooky graves to honour characters who have died ahead of season 8

With only a few hours left for ‘Game of Thrones’ to come out with its much-anticipated season 8, you will need a little brush up on all that took place at Westeros, Winterfell, Castle Black, Dragonstone, Highgarden and all other important places where the action is centred at.

Night King and his Ice Dragon
Season 7 that came in the year 2017 left the show at a cliffhanger after it was revealed that Daenerys Targaryen has not three but only two dragons now. She lost a dragon to the Night King after a fierce battle with the White Walkers beyond the Wall when she flies with her three dragons to save Jon Snow and party. While she does rescue them all, she ends up losing a dragon. The season finale was in fact, as many fans would believe, was what the makers rushed to reach at, throughout the season. The Night King first throws a dagger at te dragon, which we think dies but of course, he brings him back to life and now becomes an ice dragon instead of one that breathes fire.

Jon Snow and Daenerys
After Daenerys saves Jon and the party that included The Hound, Jorah Mormont, Tormund and several others, they end up making love in the series. While on their way to Westeros, Dany and Jon are seen walking into the same room of the ship by Tyrion Lannister who serves Dany’s Hand. Meanwhile, for those who don’t remember, the party had gone to fight the White Walkers when they get caught and secluded without any help.

Arya and Sansa Stark
The two sisters finally reunite in the series after having been separated for a larger part of the show when they get take different paths, post their father’s death. They share a disturbing vibe throughout the season, only in the end to know about each other a little more as Sansa concluded in the last episode that after all, a pack survives.

Littlefinger’s death
After surviving in all the seasons so far, Littlefinger meets his fate as Arya and Sana come together to unearth all he did wrong towards their family. In the last episode of the season, it is revealed to both that he conspired to get their father, Ned dead, sell Sansa to Ramsay Bolton, be a Lannister ally all this time and get the Starks divided.

Greyjoys
Siblings Yara and Theon don’t have it great through the season as the former gets captured by uncle Euron as he becomes the King after killing his elder brother and their father. Theon is at Winterfell where he reaches after saving Sansa and escorting her back to her home.

Bran Stark
He is turned out to be the most fascinating character on the show after the makers gave him a meatier role in the show. In the start of the show, the makers didn’t show much of Bran after he was thrown out of the window at Winterfell by Jaime Lannister. But now, he is the Third Eye Raven who can see whatever happened in the past and helps us connect the dots to Jon’s lineage. Jon is after all Lyanna Stark’s son whom Ned Stark saves as she asks him to while lying on a bed. She tells him that his name is Aegon Targareyn. He also meets the Night King, sees the large army and more.

Apart from these, other things that happened in the season were the death of Ollena at Highgarden after she confesses to killing Joffrey Baratheon to Jaime. Arya Stark kills the entire House of Frey as she dons the face of Lord Frey at a planned function. Ellaria Sand also gets captured with Yara Greyjoy but she is locked with her daughter after Cersei poisons her with the same thing Ellaria used to kill Cersei’s daughter Myrcella.

Game Of Thrones: Where will you see your favourite stars after the series finale

‘Game of Thrones’ will return for the last and eighth season on April 14 as fans around the world wait with bated breath to watch the dragons, dead army, the Night King and our loved characters from the series once again. Meanwhile, the cast got together in New York for the 'last carpet, the last premiere'. See pics here.

The series has topped every record and award for being one of the most entertaining shows ever produced for TV. It premiered in 2011 for the first time when it revolutionised how TV was seen and what was seen.

According to several reports, more than one billion viewers in 170 different countries are expected to watch each episode in the final season. This follows the crazy records created by the season seven finale ‘The Dragon and The Wolf’ which saw the White Walkers destroy the Wall at Eastwatch. The episode was watched by 16.5 million people in the US. This was a figure arrived after combining both live and streaming figures.

The sixth season finale that saw Jon Snow being declared the king of the north got about 8.9 million live views.

As reported in Daily Mail, Rolling Stone magazine's chief critic Alan Sepinwall believes that the HBO programmes increasing success is down to its uniqueness. He said, “It does things you never expect TV to be able to do in terms of dragons flying and burning up entire armies and zombies storming down a mountain. When Game Of Thrones debuted, back in 2011, TV was a totally different place. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon hadn't begun to create their own programming, and the audience for great shows wasn't splintered across niche genres and formats.”

While this is all true, the show is also the most pirated too with people still not opting to pay to watch it. Being one of the most torrented shows in recent years, it could mean that the figures are much higher because the ones reached at, do not include torrents.

For all those waiting for the show to return, the Winter is here as one of the episodes will have The Battle Of Winterfell, a showdown between the White Walkers and humans. It is reported to last for 90 minutes and to reunite main characters including Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister as well as faces not seen since the first episode.
