"As we have said for weeks, we're not going to wait around forever for fair contracts at the Big Three," said Fain, in a press briefing.

"We invite and encourage anyone who supports our cause to join us on the picket line, from friends and family all the way up to the president of the United States," stated Fain, as he extended an invitation which will further entangle the White House into a more politically treacherous issue.

The UAW is seeking a 40 per cent pay increase for its workers. Among other demands are a four-day working week, the return of automatic pay increased parallel to inflation and limits on how long a worker can be considered ‘temporary’ staff.

The companies have responded by giving record proposals, with Ford offering a 20 per cent hike, GM 18 per cent and Stellantis 17.5 per cent.

But UAW says the companies should be more generous in offering proposals.

In an emailed statement, Ford, as per CNBC,&nbsp;said: "Delivering our Ford+ plan for growth and value creation includes increasing quality, lowering costs, investing in our priorities, and adjusting staffing to match the capabilities we need."&nbsp;

"People affected by the changes will be offered severance pay, benefits," added the company as reported by Reuters.

"This is related to the Ford+ growth plan we introduced in 2021," it added.
