Ahead of a trial scheduled on October 23, the US Virgin Islands wants a judge to make a declaration that JPMorgan participated in Epstein's sex trafficking and also barred law enforcement.

As per news agency Reuters, its filings include extensive details about the bank's alleged conduct, which included payments of more than $25 million to disgraced late financier's associate Ghislaine Maxwell, and also payments made to Epstein's victims.

They further also quoted an email from September 2012 by a senior JPMorgan executive to Mary Erdoes, who is now the bank's asset and wealth management chief, comparing another client's house to Epstein's.

"Reminded me of JE's house, except it was more tasteful, and fewer nymphettes," the executive wrote. "More like the Frick [museum]. Art was fabulous."

"Wow," Erdoes responded.

On the other hand, JP Morgan wants judges to declare that the US Virgin Islands should not be able to seek financial relief, and also its claim that the bank obstructed law enforcement be rejected.

The bank has already decried the US Virgin Islands for having a cozy relationship with the disgraced Hollywood financier, where the top officials, in exchange for gifts, gave him tax breaks and also renounced sex-offender monitoring requirements.

US Virgin Islands levels new accusations against JPMorgan, says bank ignored Epstein's misdeeds

A US judge on Monday (June 26) approved JPMorgan Chase' USD 290 million settlement with women who say Jeffrey Epstein abused then and the bank turned a blind to the financier's sex trafficking. It is a preliminary approval. It was issued by US District Judge Jed Rakoff during a hearing in Manhattan federal court.

"This is a really fine settlement," Rakoff said.

He said that the settlement and a similar USD 75 million agreement with Deutsche Bank he approved earlier this month were "very large settlements" &nbsp;that would compensate Epstein's victims though not make up for abuses they suffered.

Epstein had been a client of JPMorgan client from 199 through 2013. In 2013, the bank terminated his accounts.

Victims of Epstein's sexual abuses, who are led by a former ballet dancer known as Jane Doe 1 said JPMorgan missed signs that Epstein was sexually abusing them. The bank, say the victims, stayed in touch with him even after his official departure.

Last week, victims' lawyers described the proposed all-cash settlement was &nbsp;"fair, adequate, reasonable" considering risks of further litigation and JPMorgan denying involvement in Epstein's sex trafficking.

This month, JPMorgan said in a statement that its association with Epstein "was a mistake and we regret it"

After he pleaded guilty in 2008 in Florida prostitution charge and registered as a sex offender, Epstein remained a JPMorgan client for five years.

<h2>The minimum guarantee issue</h2>

During the hearing on Monday, Judge Rakoff asked Jane Doe 1's lawyer David Boies why there was no minimum distribution for each victim. The judge asked the question noting that in the Deutsche Bank settlement, each victim was guaranteed at least USD 75,000.

Boies said that many victims in Deutsche Bank case were from Russia or Eastern Europe. It was difficult to call them. Boies said that minimum guaranteed amount was an incentive to come forward. He said that this was not the case in JPMorgan case.

Rakoff appointed Simone Lelchuk, a lawyer who specializes in administering settlements, to consider individual claims and determine payouts in the JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank cases.

This is not the only lawsuit JPMorgan is facing. The bank also faces a lawsuit over Epstein by the US Virgin islands. Epstein owned two neighbouring islands. Reuters reported that the the case is scheduled to go on trial on Octiber 23.

Epstein died at age 66 in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. New York City's medical examiner called the death a suicide.

Boies said that many victims in Deutsche Bank case were from Russia or Eastern Europe. It was difficult to call them. Boies said that minimum guaranteed amount was an incentive to come forward. He said that this was not the case in JPMorgan case. JPMorgan Chase to pay 290 million in settlement with Epstein sexual abuse accusers

Jeffrey Epstein's victims have formally asked a US&nbsp;judge to preliminarily approve JPMorgan Chase's&nbsp;(JPM.N)&nbsp;$290 million settlement to resolve claims that the largest U.S. bank turned a blind eye to the disgraced financier's sexual abuses.

Lawyers for the victims said in a Thursday night filing in Manhattan federal court that the proposed all-cash settlement with the largest US&nbsp;bank was "fair, adequate, reasonable," given the risks of further litigation and JPMorgan's denying involvement in Epstein's sex trafficking.

The settlement covers women who were sexually abused or trafficked by Epstein from Jan. 1, 1998, until his death on Aug. 10, 2019, in a Manhattan jail cell. It requires approval by US&nbsp;District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan.

Epstein had been a JPMorgan client from 1998 and 2013 when the bank terminated his accounts.

Victims led by a former ballet dancer known as Jane Doe 1 said the bank missed red flags of Epstein's abuses, and stayed in touch with him long after his official departure.

JPMorgan said in a&nbsp;statement&nbsp;this month any association with Epstein "was a mistake and we regret it".

"We would never have continued to do business with him if we believed he was using our bank in any way to help commit heinous crimes," the bank said.

Lawyers for the victims plan to seek up to 30% of the settlement amount for legal fees, court records show.

The victims' lawyers also represented Epstein victims in a similar $75 million settlement with Deutsche Bank&nbsp;(DBKGn.DE), where Epstein was also a client. Rakoff preliminarily approved that settlement on June 16.

Both banks worked with Epstein for several years after he pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting a minor for prostitution, and was forced to register as a sex offender.

JPMorgan has separately alleged that Jane Doe 1 was sexually abused by Jes Staley, a former private banking chief and Epstein friend who maintained close ties with him, court papers show.

Staley also left JPMorgan in 2013, and was Barclays'&nbsp;(BARC.L)&nbsp;chief executive from 2015 to 2021.
