An Australian woman was sentenced to six years of imprisonment by a court in Japan after they found her guilty of smuggling methamphetamine into the country.

The woman claimed that she was a victim of an online romance scam, however, the court chose to ignore it.

The court found the woman, identified as Donna Nelson from Perth, guilty of smuggling 2 kg of the drug which was hidden beneath her suitcase's false bottom when she landed at Narita airport near Tokyo from Laos in January 2023.

The 58-year-old said that she was not aware of the hidden drugs in the suitcase, which she said had been given to her by a man whom she had met on a social media platform in 2020 and planned&nbsp;to get married.

Nelson said that she was instructed to take the suitcase to Japan and hand it to the man who&nbsp;she thought was her online lover.&nbsp;

The man, who was named as "Kelly" by Nelson, had said to her that he was a Nigerian man running a fashion business.

The man reportedly paid for her flight to Japan but did not show up when she arrived at Narita airport.

As per reports, the pair had shared numerous text messages with each other and spoken multiple times on video chats.

The prosecutors said that the case had links with an online romance scam, but insisted that the woman was aware of what she was carrying inside the suitcase when she departed for Laos.

The woman's daughters, however, claimed that she was innocent. Speaking at the court, one of the daughters of Nelson, Kristal Hilaire, said that her mother was “a good person” in a hearing last month.

“She thought she was coming to Japan for her love story. She didn’t have any other intentions other than that. And that’s what we need everyone to know and hear at the court this week," Hilaire added.

Drugs worth $215 million seized in India's Bhopal, days after $667 million bust in Delhi

The Delhi Police seized over 560 kg of cocaine worth nearly $267 million on Wednesday, making it the biggest drug bust in the national capital. The police arrested four men in connection with the drug bust after a raid in South Delhi's Mehrauli.&nbsp;

The police suspect that this is an international drug syndicate being run by Afghan nationals in New Delhi.

According to the officials, those arrested had planned to sell the cocaine in Delhi and the National Capital Region.&nbsp;

This comes just two days after two other Afghan nationals, Hashimi Mohammad Waris and Abdul Nayib were arrested for allegedly running a syndicate. They were found possessing 400 gm&nbsp;of heroin and 160 gm&nbsp;of cocaine in Delhi's Tilak Nagar area on Sunday.

Waris has been living in India as a refugee since &nbsp;January 2020. However, his family is in Afghanistan. After shifting to India, he worked as a helper at a&nbsp;chemist's shop in Vikaspuri. Later, he entered into the drugs business when his friend contacted him and asked him to collect the consignments from different people in Delhi and NCR.&nbsp;

He used to deliver it further to the receivers. He used to get $100 for each delivery, police said.

The police highlighted that Nayib is also an Afghan national, who also came to India in January 2020 along with his father. He is a registered refugee. His whole family, except his father, lives in Afghanistan. Nayib met Waris at&nbsp;the&nbsp;chemist's shop in Vikaspuri.

Later, Waris lured Nayib into the drug business, promising him a lavish lifestyle, according to the police.&nbsp;

The city’s crime branch has also reportedly detained one person and launched a probe. Out of the several parcels of drugs seized, 11 from the US, two were from Canada, and one of them was from Thailand, according to local media reports.

The parcels were recovered from a Foreign Post office located in the city’s Shahibaug area which has seen similar packages in the past.&nbsp;

This is not the first time that hybrid cannabis has been seized in the city. In October, the Ahmedabad district Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested three people for allegedly getting hybrid cannabis into India and peddling it.&nbsp;

At the time, the police said that they had seized 383 grams of hybrid cannabis and 27.45 of hashish.&nbsp;

In what was said to be India’s biggest drug bust, officials seized around 3,300 kgs of narcotics from an Iranian boat off the Gujarat coast following a joint operation by the Navy, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), back in February.&nbsp;
