<p>Former United States (US) president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Friday (Oct 4) that he believed that Israel should&nbsp;strike Iran's nuclear facilities in response to the Islamic Republic's recent missile barrage.</p>

<p>Speaking at a campaign event in North Carolina, Trump referred to a question posed to President Joe Biden this week about the possibility of Israel targeting Iran's nuclear program.</p>

<p>"They asked him, what do you think about Iran, would you hit Iran? And he goes, 'As long as they don't hit the nuclear stuff.' That's the thing you want to hit, right?" Trump said.</p>

<h2><strong>'The answer is no'</strong></h2>

<p>On Wednesday, Biden was asked&nbsp;whether he would support strikes against Iranian nuclear sites and the US president told reporters: "The answer is no." Two days later, Trump highlighted at his campaign event that nuclear weapons were the biggest risk.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The death toll from powerful storm Helene jumped to at least 93 on Sunday, with one county in North Carolina alone reporting 30 deaths, authorities said, as rescuers battled to reach people in need across the southeastern United States.</p>

<p>The storm response took on a political tinge after President Joe Biden and the two candidates vying to replace him, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, announced plans to soon visit hard-hit areas, some of them in key battleground states in the November election.</p>

<p>High winds and torrential rain pummeled towns and cities across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. Homes were destroyed, roads flooded out and power cut off to millions.</p>

<p>"We're hearing (of) significant infrastructure damage to water systems, communication, roads, critical transportation routes, as well as several homes that have been just destroyed by this," the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Deanne Criswell, said Sunday.</p>

<p>At least 93 people were killed in the extreme weather -- 37 in North Carolina, 25 in South Carolina, 17 in Georgia, 11 in Florida, two in Tennessee and one in Virginia, according to tallies from local authorities compiled by AFP. That total was expected to rise.</p>

<p>"We have another devastating update. We now have 30 confirmed losses due to the storm," Quentin Miller, the sheriff in North Carolina's Buncombe County, which includes the tourist city of Asheville, told a briefing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Flood warnings remained in effect in parts of western North Carolina, amid fears of potential dam failures.</p>

<p>Charges also include conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organisation and eight counts of wire fraud.</p>

<p>According to the indictment unsealed Friday, the three men wanted to influence US presidential elections after obtaining&nbsp;information from the&nbsp;Trump flank.</p>

<p>The Trump campaign on August&nbsp;10 claimed that it had been hacked and blamed Iranian actors for it. Several news media outlets, like Politico, the New York Times and the Washington Post also said they were provided with leaked confidential information from inside the Trump campaign but they refused to publish it.</p>

<p>Last week, US intelligence officials&nbsp;revealed that operatives had tried to reach US President&nbsp;Joe Biden's campaign in late June and early July and mailed unsolicited emails containing excerpts of the hacked information.</p>

There is currently no information indicating those recipients replied,” the officials with the FBI said.</p>

<p>But the Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President&nbsp;Kamala Harris' campaign later said it considered the Iranian action spam or a phishing attempt.</p>

<p>Iran has strongly denied allegations of interference in US elections. Iran's United Nations mission was quoted as saying by CBS News that "the Islamic Republic of Iran does not engage in the internal uproars or electoral controversies of the United States," adding that "Iran neither has any motive nor intent to interfere in the U.S. election; and, it therefore categorically repudiates such accusations."</p>
