"I think it is the most fragile in Latin America, but it is within Peruvians, within us, to strengthen democracy," Boluarte said while speaking at a press conference, which was also attended by her cabinet ministers.

Boluarte is the sixth president of Peru since March 2018 and the first woman to hold the position.

She was vice president under Castillo before the former president was ousted and charges of rebellion imposed on him.

The fiercest protests have taken place against her in poor southern regions where the population is largely Indigenous and who see Castillo as one of their own.

The protesters have also raised demands for Congress' dissolution and a constituent assembly's formation for rewriting the constitution, which the right-wing opposition rejected.

"In search of peace, I openly call all political leaders of every single party, but also the leaders of social and labour organisations, everyone in general so that we can meet and put the country's agenda on the table," Boluarte said.

In the press conference, Boluarte expressed grief over the death of a 22-year-old who was shot in Apurimac, where the president was born.

The State Department called for calm dialogue and for all parties to exercise restraint and non-violence, spokesperson Vedant Patel said during a press conference. &nbsp;

Since the beginning of the protests, demonstrators have placed three demands —&nbsp;the resignation of Dina Boluarte, snap elections and a new constitution for Peru.

The nationwide toll now stands at 45, the AFP report on Friday said.&nbsp;

Speaking to the news agency on Thursday, Victor Zanabria, head of the Lima Police Force, said "We have 11,800 police officers in the streets to control unrest, we have more than 120 vans and 49 military vehicles, and also the armed forces are participating." However, the protesters remain undeterred and will continue demonstrating till their demands are met.&nbsp;

"We want the usurper Dina Boluarte to step down and call for new elections," one protester Jose De la Rosa told Reuters on Thursday. Another protestor travelling to Lima who did not wish to be identified, said, "We won't forget the pain the police have caused in the town of Juliaca."

Meanwhile, President Boluarte addressed the country on Thursday night and said that protesters who carried out acts of violence will not go unpunished.&nbsp;

Peru has been rocked by protests organised by supporters of ousted president Pedro Castillo who have marched and barricaded streets around the South American country since December, demanding new elections and the removal of current leader Dina Boluarte.

The demonstrations have at times turned violent and at least 42 people have been killed in clashes with security forces, including a police officer burned alive in a vehicle, while hundreds more have been injured.

Authorities suspended operations at the airport as a preventive measure. The airport handles the second-most air traffic in the country. When the airport was closed, Castillo supporters were trying to reach the transportation hub.

In December, it suspended operations for five days.

The countrywide demonstrations have at times turned violent and at least 42 people have been killed in clashes with security forces.

The number of protest roadblocks in Peru meanwhile climbed Saturday to 100, with blockages particularly concentrated around Lima, transport authorities said.

The airport was shut after a flare-up in weeks-long protests that have killed dozens. Peru has been rocked by protests organised by supporters of ousted president Pedro Castillo who have marched and barricaded streets around the South American country since December, demanding new elections and the removal of current leader Dina Boluarte. The demonstrations have at times turned violent and at least 42 people have been killed in clashes with security forces, including a police officer burned alive in a vehicle, while hundreds more have been injured. Authorities suspended operations at the airport as a preventive measure. The airport handles the second-most air traffic in the country. When the airport was closed, Castillo supporters were trying to reach the transportation hub. In December, it suspended operations for five days. The countrywide demonstrations have at times turned violent and at least 42 people have been killed in clashes with security forces. The number of protest roadblocks in Peru meanwhile climbed Saturday to 100, with blockages particularly concentrated around Lima, transport authorities said. In a speech aired on state TV on Friday night, President Boluarte said, "Some voices that have come from the violent and radical factions are asking for my resignation, provoking the population into chaos, disorder and destruction.”&nbsp;

"I will not resign. My commitment is with Peru,” she added.&nbsp;

The president said that the protests have turned violent multiple times which have led to the killing of 42 people amid clashes with security personnel, as one police officer lost his life after he was burned alive along with a vehicle. So far, hundreds of people have been injured.&nbsp;

"I cannot stop reiterating my regret for the deaths of Peruvians in these protests. I apologise for this situation,” she stated.&nbsp;

However, the president said that the constitutional assembly won't be called as protesters have been demanding, as she emphasised the difficulties faced by Chile in drafting and approving the new Constitution.&nbsp;

"That cannot happen overnight," said Boluarte. On Friday, which was the unrest's tenth consecutive day, Rocio Leandro, the Ayacucho region's union leader, was arrested by the police.&nbsp;

He added that Leandro was a former member of Shining Path and was known as "Comrade Cusi."&nbsp;

Some protesters also demanded that Congress should be shuttered.

While speaking to local radio station RPP, the Head of Peru's ombudsman's office Eliana Revollar said that an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old were killed during protesters' clashes with police Andahuaylas, the city located in Apurimac's Andean region "possibly as a result of gunshot wounds."

It stated that the transmitter room was set on fire by protesters which is important for providing navigation services,

On Saturday, the ombudsman's office informed that protesters had held two police officers for hours in Andahuaylas, however, they were later released. On Saturday, the clashes with protesters injured 16 civilians and four policemen, it added.

The first female president of Peru, Boluarte, assigned the post of economy minister to former Deputy Finance Minister Alex Contreras, who is known to have a pro-market stance and is a career civil servant.&nbsp;

Chemical engineer Oscar Vera was given the post of energy and mines minister, which is an important post in copper-producing Peru.

Former state prosecutor Pedro Angulo was named as the prime minister by the president and diplomat Ana Cecilia Gervasi was given the portfolio of foreign minister.

The 60-year-old lawyer, President Boluarte, earlier served as vice president of Castillo. If no new elections are held in the country, the Boluarte will remain in office till 2026.

Castillo's lawyer has denied the charges levied against him and said that the detention of the former president is arbitrary and illegal.&nbsp;

A request has been made for the former president's asylum in Mexico and the government authorities in Mexico and Peru are holding consultations over the request, the foreign minister of Mexico said on Thursday.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, protesters across the country are demanding Congress' closure and holding fresh democratic elections to elect a new leader and not let Boluarte finish Castillo's term. The protesters are also raising demands for a new Constitution to be drafted.&nbsp;
