In a report titled, "A Global Web of Chinese Propaganda Leads to a US Tech Mogul", the NYT has claimed that the news portal was part of a global network that received funding from American millionaire Neville Roy Singham, who allegedly works closely with the Chinese government media machine. &nbsp;

The report mentioned, "In New Delhi, corporate filings show, Singham's network financed a news site, NewsClick, that sprinkled its coverage with Chinese government talking points. 'China's history continues to inspire the working classes,' one video said."

Dubey alleged that the article is basically exposing the "tukde tukde gang" and "some media" as they have connections to external forces that have links in anti-India activities.&nbsp;

The BJP leader accused Congress of taking money from China, with the aim of opposing the central government. He also alleged that Congress leaders met the Chinese in 2016 to oppose the Modi government.&nbsp;

Dubey said in the parliament, "They want to divide India through Chinese forces and some media. Between 2005 and 2014, whenever there was a crisis, Congress received money from China."&nbsp;

"In 2008, they had invited both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. In 2016, they were talking to the Chinese during the Doklam crisis."

He also took the names of Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh and Randeep Surjewala.&nbsp;

The opposition asked how Dubey's mic was on throughout the processing and reportedly they wrote a letter to the Speaker.&nbsp;

In the letter, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote, "When the Acting Chair was giving the floor to ministers to lay papers on the table, Shri Nishikant Dubey's microphone was switched on."&nbsp;

"He proceeded to level libellous and defamatory charges against the Congress Party and Shri Rahul Gandhi, a member of the House, without having given any notice, let alone taken the permission of the Chair. His allegations were a flagrant violation of Rule 353 of the Rules of Procedure ad Conduct of Business in the Lok Sabha," he added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, BJP leader and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur alleged that China, NewsClick website and the Congress are linked to an "anti-India umbilical cord" as he cited the same report. &nbsp;

Addressing a press conference along with Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar at the BJP headquarters, Thakur said India was telling the world that NewsClick was a dangerous global network of propaganda.&nbsp;

He also said that when Enforcement Directorate raids were conducted against NewsClick two years ago, the Congress and other opposition parties stood by the news portal and questioned the government's action, raising the issue of press freedom.&nbsp;

India: BJP launches scathing attack on Congress, links the Opposition with Chinese funding scandal

Women are not immune to misogyny in public life. In politics, the open targeting just makes it clear the deep patriarchal bias that runs in our society despite laws in pl​ace. The harassment becomes more blatant for those women who do not descend from political families. Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamalnath’s use of the word 'item' is an example in case. He would not dare to use this word for women politicians who either hail from political families or belong to established backgrounds.&nbsp;

These words are reserved for women without patriarchal patronage. &nbsp;The sexual slur works as an expression of power and putting the woman in her place through the prism of class and caste. &nbsp;It is this slur which often leads to sexual violence in rural areas where its used as a tool to enforce socially constructed hierarchies. But this is only one part of sexual violence and misogyny in Indian politics.&nbsp;

Success in public life and attainment of public stature does not mean the end of such slurs. It moves from the domain of harassment and ridicule to character assassination. It involves running down of women for not having a child or not being married or treating her ambition and aggressiveness as a sign of unrestrained sexuality. This continues even today despite women making immense contribution in Indian politics.

It is also not as if India has not seen its fair share of women politicians in both pre-independence and post-Independence India. Sarojini Naidu, Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, Raj Kumari Amrit Kau, Lakshmi Sehgal, Bhikaji Cama and Begum Jahanara Shahnawaz are a few who made the cut in the Indian politics. In post-independent India, Indira Gandhi, Nandini Sathpathy, Mamta Banerjee, Jayalalitha, Mayawati, Sushma Swaraj, Sonia Gandhi, Nirmala Sitaraman, Vijay Raje Scindia, Mehbooba Mufti, Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Maneka Gandhi are some of the examples.&nbsp;

Barring few, most of these politicians came from political families. The women who became powerful were often run down as graceless and unrestrained. Criticism of this kind was heaped on them regardless of whether they came from both established and non-established backgrounds just because they became powerful. These women are Indira Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Jayalalitha, Mayawati, Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Mehbooba Mufti and Sonia Gandhi.

He said the bypolls will decide whether people want the leadership of "bada-chota bhai" (an apparent reference to Congress veterans Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh) or that of trimurti (triumvirate, a reference to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, BJP leader Narendra Singh Tomar and Scindia).

Bypolls are due on more than two dozen seats in Madhya Pradesh but their schedule is yet to be announced.

The former Union minister, who quit the Congress in March and later joined the BJP, was speaking on the last day of BJP membership drive in his bastion Gwalior.

Referring to development of the region, Scindia said Chouhan sanctioned schemes worth Rs 110 crore for development of Gohad (a constituency in Bhind district), but Kamal Nath, during his tenure as chief minister, always complained about shortage of funds."

"Those who remain with people during their good and bad days or those indulging in corruption and exchange of money, Scindia said.

Praising Chouhan for his leadership skills, he said It is not an easy task to remain chief minister for 13 long years. It is possible only when you actually have made a place for yourself in the hearts of people."

The Congress should have drawn a bigger line than the BJP after coming to power, it drew a big line but that of corruption and unfulfilled promises, Scindia alleged.

The coming bypolls will be a fight for justice and honour and those who did not remain in the midst of people when needed have no right to seek votes from them, he said.

Battle between big-small brother and triumvirate: Jyotiraditya Scindia on bypolls

ASHOK NAGAR (Madhya Pradesh): Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sachin Pilot, and accused them of abandoning the party after it gave them everything.

"I am saddened by these developments. These youngsters were given everything by the Congress party. They don't they have patience," Singh told reporters.

This comes as the Rajasthan Congress is in turmoil over the past few days after Pilot skipped recent Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meetings amid speculations of his exit from the party.

"Jyotiraditya received the same respect as his father Madhavrao Scindia in the Congress party. He (Jyotiraditya) was given key positions and offered several others as well. He shook hands with the enemy after being defeated by them. We did not expect this. The same is being done by Sachin Pilot," Singh said.

Singh said that the Congress made Sachin Pilot a Member of Parliament (MP) at the young age of 27 and inducted him in the Central Cabinet.

Yesterday, Pilot was sacked as Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee chief by the party. The decision to sack him was taken at a CLP meeting where as many as 102 MLAs unanimously demanded that Pilot be removed.

"He was also made Rajasthan PCC president and Deputy Chief Minister. How old is he? Merely 37-38 years old. Have some patience. How many people are there who have climbed the political ladder so quickly?" the Congress leader asked.

"But he has worked against the norms of the Congress party. It is saddening. I wanted to have good relations with Sachin Pilot. Just like I had with Rajesh Pilot and Madhavrao Scindia. These youngsters don't have patience, which is a key trait in politics," he added.

Singh also ridiculed the claims of former Madhya Pradesh MLAs that work requested by them was not done as they were Scindia supporters and said, "These are blatant lies. We have a list of all the work that was done on the request of these former MLAs".

In March this year, Scindia left the Congress to join the BJP. Later, 22 Congress MLAs resigned, which led to the toppling of the Kamal Nath government and paved the way for Shivraj Singh Chouhan to become the Chief Minister again.

Scindia was later elected to the Upper House of the Parliament from the BJP.&nbsp;

Leaders across the political spectrum on Thursday condemned Army Chief General Bipin Rawat`s remarks on the leadership. Alluding to the protests across the country over citizenship law, the Army chief had earlier today said that leading masses and crowds to carry out arson and violence in cities and towns is not leadership. "Leaders are not those who lead people in an inappropriate direction," he said. Taking a dig at him for his remarks, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, "Leadership is knowing the limits of one`s office. It is about understanding the idea of civilian supremacy and preserving the integrity of the institution that you head."Congress leader Digvijaya Singh also expressed similar sentiments."I agree with General Saheb but also leaders are not those who allow their followers to indulge in the genocide of communal violence. Do you agree with me General Saheb?" he questioned. Several parts of the country witnessed a spate of protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), many of which turned violent. Incidentally, a lot of these demonstrations have taken place in several colleges and universities across the country.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on March 16 said if party colleague Digvijaya Singh wants to contest upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he should choose the "toughest seat" in the state.

While Nath did not mention any seat, in particular, he said there were "2-3-4 seats" in MP which the Congress had not won in the past "30-35" years.

Singh, a former chief minister and multiple times Lok Sabha MP, is currently a Rajya Sabha member.

"I have requested Digvijaya Singh that if he wants to contest Lok Sabha polls, then he should do so from the toughest seat. There are 2-3-4 seats from where we have not won elections since the last 30-35 years," Nath told reporters here.

Congress functionaries said he may have been referring to Bhopal and Indore Lok Sabha seats, both of which have been held by the BJP since 1989.

Congress sources said Nath is keen that Singh contest from Bhopal. Former President late Shankar Dayal Sharma was the last Congress winner from the seat in the 1984 general elections.

Nath, in reply to a query, however, said it was for Singh to decide from where he wants to contest.

He also added that the Congress would announce Lok Sabha candidates from the state in the next three-four days.

Nath arrived in Chhindwara on a two-day visit to address 11 rallies, with his son Nakul Nath, in all likelihood, is the Congress' Lok Sabha candidate.

Nath, who is a nine-time MP from Chhindwara, is fighting an Assembly bypoll from here scheduled for April 23.

Nath has to get elected to the MP Assembly in order to continue as chief minister.

After the Pulwama attack, Prime Minister Modi was quick in announcing that the Indian Armed Forces have been given full powers to handle the situation and counter cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

After the February 26 airstrike that targeted the terror infrastructure at Balakot, Pakistan Air force F-16 jets entered the Indian territory to target military installations. They were intercepted and chased away by Indian Air Force pilots. The Pakistani offensive resulted in the downing of an F-16 aircraft. India's brave fighter pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan, whose aircraft was also hit, was captured when he ejected and landed inside the Pakistani territory. Under immense diplomatic pressure mounted by India and also the threat of direct action in case Pakistan chose to remain defiant, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced in his Parliament that Abhinandan would be released.

“The Indian Air Defence system was on full alert in the morning of 27 February - a day after the Balakot airstrike. Build up of Pakistan Air Force aircraft on their side of LoC was noticed in time and additional aircraft were scrambled to tackle Pak incursion. When there was an attempt to attack Indian military installations, PAF aircraft were engaged and forced to withdraw by Mirage-2000, Su-30 and MiG-21 Bison aircraft from the Indian side. They left in a hurry as demonstrated by large missed distances of the weapons dropped by them. &nbsp;During combat, use of F-16 by PAF and multiple launches of AMRAAM (American beyond visual range air-to-air missile) were conclusively observed. Prompt and correct tactical action by Su-30 aircraft, in response to AMRAAM launch, defeated the missile. Parts of the missile fell in area East of Rajouri in J&amp;K, injuring a civilian on ground.” With this statement on Tuesday, the Indian Ministry of Defence has blasted the false claim by Pakistan of shooting down an Su-30, which was obviously a cover up for loss of its own aircraft.

In the meanwhile, even as Pakistan imposed a ban on Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafeez Saeed led Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) on Tuesday, there has been no let up and Pakistan has continued to violate the ceasefire along the line of control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and there have been civilian casualties too.

When troops on both sides are in a state of combat readiness and it is time for the nation to remain united to face the enemy, the Congress party and other opposition parties are working overtime and throwing posers about the outcome of the February 26 airstrike. They all are asking the same question in tandem and the people at large are viewing this as an attempt by the opposition to politicise the situation keeping in view the upcoming general election. What is also alarming is that the opposition leaders are even pointing their fingers questioning the “timing of the post-Pulwama offensive (ahead of the Lok Sabha polls).

Gloating over the situation prevailing in India are those at the helm of affairs in Pakistan. That country’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, in an interview, has talked of differences among the political parties in India with regard to the numbers of terrorists killed in the airstrike. In a video that’s gone viral, Qureshi is heard saying, "The Congress party is questioning the claim that terror camps have been destroyed and a large number of terrorists have been killed."

On the current situation, the nation is also witnessing a war of words on social media between the BJP and opposition leaders. What is particularly capturing headlines are a couple of tweets by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh. After citing a certain news-report and asking “what is the truth behind the bombing of Balakot”, Singh said in another tweet:&nbsp;

The letter was seized during nationwide raids conducted by the Pune police in connection with the case following which these activists were arrested, he said.

The Pune police recently filed its charge sheet against five activists - Surendra Gadling, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, Rona Wilson and Sudhir Dhavale, who were arrested in June.

The letter in question, dated September 25, 2017, is addressed to Surendra (who police claim is Surendra Gadling) by one comrade Prakash, the official said.

A portion of the letter reads, "We must intensify nationwide protests using students. State forces will be soft against students which will gradually put the state at a disadvantage while acting against us. Congress leaders are very much willing to assist in this process and have also agreed to fund further agitations.... In this regard, you can contact our friend at (the phone number of Digvijaya Singh as per police)".

A senior official associated with the probe said the letter had been made part of the charge sheet and is under investigation.

Asked if Digvijaya Singh would be summoned for questioning, senior police officer in Pune Suhas Bavche said several numbers had cropped up in the letters seized during the raids and the ownership of these numbers and their roles in the case are being probed.

"If someone's role is established, whatever is needed to be done as part of the investigation, will be done," Bavche said.

Shivaji Bodakhe, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and order) informed that, as of now, no notice had been issued to any one.

The prosecution had yesterday told court that charges related to "sedition and waging war against the state" had been added against all the accused arrested for Maoist links in connection with the Elgar Parishad.

Government pleader Ujjwala Pawar had told court yesterday that sections 124 (A) (sedition), 121 (waging or attempting to wage war) and 121 (A) (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been added to the charge sheet.

The Elgar Parishad was held on December 31, 2017 in Pune to commemorate 200 years of the 1818 Koregaon Bhima battle in which East India Company forces, comprising a large number of Dalit soldiers, defeated the Peshwa army.

Digvijaya Singh is no longer a Congress general secretary, with party president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday divesting him of the charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh.

Singh, a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, was earlier removed as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Goa, Karnataka and Telangana.&nbsp

The Congress president appointed former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy as the AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, in place of Singh, according to a party statement.

Singh's role as AICC in-charge of Goa came in for criticism when the party failed to stake its claim for government formation and lost out to the BJP, despite emerging as the single-largest party.&nbsp

Seventy-one-year-old Singh was recently appointed the chairman of the Congress's coordination committee for Madhya Pradesh, which goes to polls in a few months.

Besides Chandy, the Congress president appointed party spokesperson Gaurav Gogoi as the party's in-charge of West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, replacing AICC general secretary C P Joshi.

Gogoi is the son of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi.

"The party appreciates the hard work and contribution of Digvijaya Singh, who will be stepping down from his responsibility as AICC general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh," a statement from Congress general secretary (organisation) Ashok Gehlot said.

He also said the party appreciates the hard work and contribution of C P Joshi, who would be stepping down from his responsibility as AICC general secretary in-charge of West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The changes will be enforced with immediate effect, the party said.

Today's changes are part of Rahul Gandhi's efforts to restructure the Congress party by bringing in some new and young faces and infusing fresh energy in the party's ranks ever since he took over command in December last.&nbsp
