<p>While Patel plays the titular character, the film also stars Hugh Laurie, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw and Benedict Wong.</p>

<p>Earlier in an interview, Patel had said he had accidentally elbowed Swinton in the face while working on the film.</p>

<p>"I accidentally elbowed Tilda in the mouth," people.com had quoted Patel as saying.</p>

<p>"I was so nervous. It was my first scene with her. There`s a whole thing where he is almost about to pass out and he`s trying to find a couch to land on and I was spinning around and flailing and I kind of did like a UFC elbow. And Tilda just stopped and I thought, `I just broke Tilda`s teeth in the first scene`. And she was very gracious about it. All of her teeth are intact," he had added, recalling the incident that occurred during the shoot of&nbsp;the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Maras condenses the terror attack that spread over three days into one night inside the majestic Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai and only narrates what happened inside the hotel. In real life, terrorists had attacked not just the Taj hotel but also two other five star hotels, a restaurant, a railway station and a religious place of the jews.&nbsp;In ‘Hotel Mumbai’ Maras sticks to the Taj hotel, using fictitious characters and dramatizing several of the incidents but drawing inspiration from actual heroes and incidents.</p>

<p>A little over two hours long, the film wastes no time and dives right in as it opens in Mumbai on that fateful day. Terrorists enter Mumbai on a boat, and soon break out in groups of two and set towards different locations of the city. The helpless, confused, anguished victims as well as the misguided attackers. In a very poignant scene in the second half, an attacker is shown humming a Punjabi folk as a montage of various key characters are shown- each dealing with myriad emotions, grappling in fear and pain- connected weirdly through grief.</p>

<p>The film boasts of a superb cast. Patel (who also serves as one of the executive producers of the film) emotes through eyes and is pitch-perfect as the man who rises to the occasion even though he is sacred himself of dying. Kher plays the only real character in the film and as Chef Oberoi, delivers assured performance. So do actors Armie Hammer and Naznin Boniadi who play the anguished couple stuck in a restaurant downstairs worrying about the safety of their child who is locked upstairs with the nanny as terrorists create mayhem inside the hotel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There are a few scenes though which seem unnecessary and predictable- and play to the gallery, but films made on real-life tragedies play on human emotions to a great extent to garner the desired reactions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dev who was born and raised in England by Gujarati Indian parents is very far from speaking Hindi so it was an uphill task for him to get into the skin of the character.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking about his preparation, Dev said, “I spent about a month with my coach Raghuveer Joshi working on the accent and the pitch. Since the character is fictional, there was no reference point. Looks-wise we built him up from ground zero. I had to completely change my appearance, work on my Hindi and Punjabi at the same time and ensure that the words sound correct in terms of tonality. I had done neither of these before but I am glad the film made me push myself to try out an uncharted territory personally.”</p>

<p>He added, “The story is close to me as I was shooting here for one month and the next in my house in London my parents looking at the TV screens and watching Mumbai burning, it was horrible!”</p>
