<p>The FIR was filed on the basis of a complaint by Station House Officer (SHO) Upender Singh.</p>

<p>It said that police personnel entered the university and urged agitators to get out of the campus but the agitators continued pelting stones.</p>

<p>"The agitators were then run out of the campus by the use of minimum force on the directions of senior officers. Several police officials sustained serious injuries due to the stone pelting and scuffle. The officials were admitted to hospitals for treatment," the FIR added.</p>

<p>Police said that the protestors also set two police booths in the area on fire and vandalized around 70-80 motorcycles.</p>

<p>A case was registered under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including assembly of unlawful mob, rioting, obstructing public servant in discharge of duty, assault and attempt to commit culpable homicide, etc.</p>

<p>Delhi's Patiala House Court on Wednesday adjourned till February 19 the JNU sedition case"<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/delhi-high-court-disposes-of-plea-on-delay-in-sanctions-in-jnu-sedition-case-266161">JNU sedition case</a> after Delhi Police informed it that the file regarding grant of sanction is pending before Delhi government's home department.</p>

<p>The CMM had earlier too adjourned the matter after Public Prosecutor informed him about the pendency of sanction.</p>

<p>Delhi Police women's patrol unit is riding colour-coded pink scooters with pink helmets to spread awareness on women safety.</p>

<p>Kejriwal was atop an open jeep when a man wearing a red t-shirt jumped onto the vehicle and slapped the chief minister before being pulled off the jeep.</p>

<p>The 33-year-old man, identified as Suresh, who is a scrap dealer in the area, has been a supporter of the Aam Aadmi Party and used to work as an organiser of the party's rallies and meetings, they said.</p>

<p>"An enquiry by a DCP-level officer has been ordered to enquire as to how this person was allowed to be in the reception or proximate group," Anil Mittal, Additional PRO (Delhi Police) said.</p>

<p>According to his version, over a period of time, Suresh got disenchanted due to the behaviour of the AAP leaders. His anger intensified due to "distrust of the party in the armed forces", the official said, adding further interrogation is on in the matter.</p>

<p>No FIR has been registered in the matter as police did not receive any complaint.</p>

<p>"Today, he was wearing a cap (which he later took off) and scarf of the AAP and was in the reception group of the CM. No one objected to him being there as he had been an organiser for the party. He was standing near the front right tyre of the Gypsy. He took off the scarf, climbed the bonnet and attempted to assault the CM," Delhi Police said in its statement.</p>

<p>The AAP, however, alleged that the Delhi Police had planted that the man belonged to the party.</p>

<p>The AAP roadshow was organised from 4 pm to 10 pm in Moti Nagar. It was scheduled to start from Karampura and was to terminate at RK Ashram Marg, it said.</p>

<p>Proper police arrangement from both Security Unit and local police were put in place for the event in consultation with the organizers of the event, it added.</p>

<p>The chief minister arrived at around 5.43 pm at the starting point. He got out of the official vehicle and boarded the open gypsy prepared for the roadshow. As he was meeting and greeting his party workers who had gathered around the gypsy, suddenly a person got on to the bonnet of the vehicle and attempted to assault the chief minister, the statement said.</p>

<p>He was immediately overpowered and saved from the agitated supporters and taken to hospital for medical treatment. The roadshow then started and continued as per the schedule, it said.</p>

<p>During security arrangements at such events, which are put in place in consultation with the organizers, necessary tie-up is made with the organizers so that they ensure that only the persons identified by them are in the reception party or the proximate group or near the vehicle used for the roadshow, police said.</p>

<p>AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the Delhi Police had planted the man.</p>

<p>"Delhi Police planting that man belonged to AAP, this is really shameful given the fact that the attacker's wife has herself said he was a Modi Bhakt and did not like anyone talking against Modi.</p>

<p>"This is the same Delhi Police which had planted earlier that no 'mirchi attack' happened on the chief minister. It was later when the Delhi government provided CCTV footage to Delhi Police that left its political masters red-faced," Bharadwaj said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rohit Shekhar, the son of late veteran politician N D Tiwari, was smothered to death on the intervening night of April 15 and 16, an autopsy report said.</p>

<p>"On the night of the incident, the couple had a fight over a relative. Rohit had been drinking all the way from Uttarakhand to Delhi and was not in a condition to resist.</p>

<p>During the fight, she pounced on him and smothered him," Rajeev Ranjan, Additional Commissioner (Crime), said.</p>

<p>During inquiry, it was found that Rohit, along with his mother and other relatives, went to Kathgodam in Uttarakhand to cast his vote on April 11 and returned by late evening on April 15, Ranjan said.</p>

<p>It was also learnt that he was drinking all the way along with the woman relative with whom he was returning in his car, the officer said.</p>

<p>After returning to Delhi late on April 15, they had dinner with Ujjwala, Rohit's mother, and other family members at around 11 pm. They both sat with Ujjwala and chatted with her.</p>

<p>Later, his mother and other relatives returned to their Tilak Lane bungalow and his servants also went to their room. His half brother, Siddharth, had also retired to his room, the officer said.</p>

<p>Next day, at around 2.30 pm, Rohit's mother came to his house asked about him where Apoorva said that he was sleeping. His mother did not disturb him as she knew that he had insomnia and he used to sleep late in the evening, Ranjan said.</p>

<p>Later at around 4 pm, one of his servants noticed that he was not responding and was bleeding through his nose, police said.</p>

<p>Rohit's mother was at Max Hospital in Saket for treatment when she received a call from home that he was unwell. She then took an ambulance that brought Rohit to the hospital.</p>

<p>He was declared brought dead and his body was sent for the postmortem to the AIIMS.</p>

<p>The autopsy was done by a board of five doctors on April 17 and the report revealed that Rohit was died due to asphyxiation as he was smothered and strangulated.</p>

<p>He died two hours after the last meal he had around 11 pm. He died around 1 am. The first floor of the house did not have CCTV cameras, police said.</p>

<p>Police were informed about the incident at around 6.55 pm on April 16.</p>

<p>After Rohit's autopsy report came out, a murder case was registered and the case was transferred. Thereafter, the case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered and the matter was shifted to the Crime Branch.</p>

<p>Rohit and Apoorva got married on May 11, 2018, after having courted each other for a year. They had met through a marriage portal, police said.</p>

<p>Immediately after their marriage, the couple seemed to have had a fallout and Apoorva had left for her parental home in Indore, police said.</p>

<p>Later from May 29, the distance between the two had steadily increased. Apoorva spent more time away from her husband's house in Defence Colony. They had an unhappy marriage. The matter had almost reached to the point of divorce and they had planned to part in June 2019, Ranjan said.</p>

<p>Only three people -&nbsp;Apoorva and two domestic helps - had access to Rohit's room and they all were interrogated. Police narrowed down on Apoorva after a series of interrogation sessions.</p>

<p>Eventually, after sustained interrogation, Apoorva broke down and admitted that he killed her husband. She had smothered and strangulated him on his bed on a fateful night, the police said, adding she stayed in the room for some time after the incident.</p>

<p>She later retired to her room where she could not sleep the entire night, said another officer.</p>

<p>Rohit and Apoorva had a turbulent marriage since day one and sources said that they both used to sleep in different rooms.</p>

<p>On April 15, Apoorva went to his room at around 12.45 am and they had a fight on that night after she got to know that Rohit was drinking with his sister-in-law.</p>

<p>After the heated argument, Apoorva allegedly strangulated and smothered him. When he tried to shout, she covered his mouth with her hand.</p>

<p>"She has confessed. As of now, from the fact and circumstances, it seems the killing was not pre-planned. The background was there that they had a turbulent marriage and Rohit Shekhar and his family were thinking of separation. All her hopes with the marriage were belied," Ranjan said.</p>

<p>According to the will of the family, Apoorva would not get anything from the property, police said, adding investigation in the case is in progress.</p>

<p>Ranjan did not share details of the evidence they have against Apoorva and only said they are in the thick of the investigation.&nbsp;</p>

Police arrest Rohit Shekhar Tiwari's wife for his murder, cites marital discord as motive

<p>Rohit, who is the son of Former UP CM Narayan Dutt Tiwari, was found dead on April 16 under mysterious circumstances.</p>

<p>Earlier on Sunday, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police took Apoorva, (wife of late Rohit Shekhar Tiwari), maid and the servant to an undisclosed location for interrogation in connection to the Rohit Shekhar's murder case.</p>

<p>The Crime Branch of Delhi Police questioned Apoorva on April 20 in connection to the case.</p>

<p>The questioning took place at Rohit's residence in Defence Colony in South Delhi.</p>

<p>"There was tension between Rohit and his wife since the first day of marriage. It was a love marriage; Currently, Delhi crime branch is questioning the wife of Rohit Shekhar Tiwari," Rohit's mother Ujjwala Tiwari had told reporters then.</p>

<p>Banned cricketer S Sreesanth, who was earlier arrested in connection with the 2013 spot-fixing scandal, Wednesday claimed in the Supreme Court that he had made the confession about his involvement in the alleged crime as Delhi Police had threatened that his family members would be implicated and tortured.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taking into account his submissions made through his lawyer, the apex court questioned him why he had not immediately brought it to the notice of the BCCI that he was being approached for alleged spot-fixing during the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2013.</p>

<p>The apex court observed that the conduct of Sreesanth, facing a life ban, in the entire episode was "not good".</p>

<p>Sreesanth, who was discharged by a trial court in 2015 in a criminal case related to alleged spot-fixing, told a bench of justices Ashok Bhushan and K M Joseph that life ban imposed on him by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was harsh and there was no evidence to substantiate the claim that he indulged in any illegality.</p>

<p>"The police had threatened me that my family members would be tortured and implicated unless I confess," senior advocate Salman Khurshid, appearing for Sreesanth, told the court.</p>

<p>The 35-year-old cricketer has challenged in the apex court the decision of a division bench of the Kerala High Court which restored the ban imposed on him.</p>

<p>Khurshid said it was not established that any spot-fixing was done in the match played between IPL teams Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab at Mohali in May 2013 and there was no evidence that the cricketer received any payment for doing this. "Why didn''t you (Sreesanth) bring it immediately to the notice of the board (BCCI)," the bench asked Khurshid after he referred to recorded telephonic conversations between alleged bookies.</p>

<p>The senior counsel said Sreesanth had failed to inform the board about him being approached for spot-fixing but even if he did not do this, the maximum ban that could be imposed upon him was five years.<br />
"All this indicates that conduct of S Sreesanth was not good. There is no doubt about this," the bench said.</p>

<p>Khurshid argued that as per allegations, Sreesanth was supposed to concede 14 runs in an over but he gave away 13 runs in that over which he bowled to "two of the best batsmen" -- Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh. "At the worst, it could be said that I (Sreesanth) had the knowledge that somebody was trying to do fixing and I should have brought it to the notice of the authorities. If that is the case, the total ban could be up to five years," he said.</p>

<p>He said the world over, bans have been imposed on cricketers for indulging in such activities and except former South African captain Hansie Cronje, who later died in 2002 in a plane crash, life ban was not imposed on anyone.</p>

<p>Khurshid referred to the case of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who was accused for his alleged involvement in a match fixing scandal of 2000, and said that life ban was imposed on him but it was reversed later.</p>

<p>On November 8, 2012, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had termed the life ban imposed by the BCCI on Azharuddin as illegal and said it is unsustainable in law.</p>

<p>"My (Sreesanth) desire is to get back my honour," Khurshid told the bench, adding, "Ultimately, I am wasting my professional career. At least, let me play outside India. Every year, I am getting offers to play.</p>

<p>"I have been given life ban for an offence which is not at all established," he said, adding that there was no evidence of payment of Rs 10 lakh to Sreesanth for the alleged fixing.</p>

<p>Khurshid said recorded telephonic conversations did not show that the match was fixed and evidence produced by Delhi Police was not accepted by the trial court. Senior advocate Parag Tripathi, appearing for Committee of Administrators (CoA) of BCCI, raised the issue of veracity of translation of the telephonic conversations referred to by Sreesanth''s counsel and said he needs to file a reply on this.</p>

<p>Tripathi said he would also respond to the additional documents filed by the petitioner. The bench asked Tripathi to file his response and posted the matter for further hearing on February 20.</p>

<p>The apex court said that Sreesanth''s counsel may also file the certified copy of complete transcripts of telephonic conversations that have been brought on record.</p>

<p>Sreesanth had earlier told the top court that he has offers to play English county matches and life ban imposed on him by the BCCI is "too harsh".</p>

<p>The apex court had last year asked the Delhi High Court to decide expeditiously the appeal filed by the Delhi Police challenging a trial court order discharging several accused, including Sreesanth.</p>

<p>Delhi Police had arrested Sreesanth, along with cricketers Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, and others on charges of spot fixing.</p>

<p>As many as 36 accused in the spot-fixing case, including Sreesanth, Chavan and Chandila, were discharged by a trial court here in July 2015. The BCCI had, however, refused to alter its disciplinary decision of life ban on Sreesanth even after the trial court''s verdict.</p>

<p>A single-judge bench of the Kerala High Court had lifted the life ban imposed on Sreesanth by the BCCI and had set aside all proceedings against him initiated by the board.</p>

'Will fight case in court,' says CPI's D Raja after his daughter is charged in JNU sedition case
