The DMRC has received 27 megawatts (MW) solar power from Madhya Pradesh`s Rewa Solar Power Project, which will gradually increase it to 99 MW.

The rail corporation has a plan to run all its operations with the help of solar energy by 2021.

"On average, DMRC would be given 345 million units (MU) of power from Rewa every year. We are likely to start receiving 99 MW solar energy from the 750 MW park in Rewa from May 2019," DMRC officials said.

On Wednesday, the Union Minister of State for Power and Coal, Piyush Goyal presided over the signing of Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) between DMRC and Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company (MPPMC) with Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited.

"During Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s leadership and with the cooperation of all chief ministers of various states in the last three years, renewable energy has seen a growth of over 370 per cent.

As compared to 2,600 MW of installed solar power capacity in 2014, today in India, there is a total of 12,200 MW of installed solar power capacity and the country would achieve the 20,000MW solar power capacity target five years ahead of schedule by the end of 2017," the Union Minister noted.

But for Ramavtar Singh there is no escape: like many of the city's poorest, he eats, sleeps, and works outside.

"I work for six to eight hours every day and my children eat and sleep outside most times of the year," the father of five tells AFP at a roadside food stall, gulping down a 50-cent dish of rice and lentils.

Singh earns a living by cycling passengers and cargo around Delhi on his rickshaw, a strenuous activity that means he's inhaling dangerous concentrations of tiny pollutants deep into his lungs.&nbsp;

At best, he can wrap a rag over his mouth on smoggy days, a low-cost approach taken by labourers and rickshaw drivers that does little to prevent the most dangerous particles entering the bloodstream.

Delhi's smog peaks from October to February, routinely exceeding WHO recommendations for PM2.5 -- tiny and harmful airborne particles -- and some days registers levels more than 20 times safe limits.

Experts warn the long term health consequences of living enveloped in pollution are disastrous, often causing chronic sickness and in some cases early death.&nbsp;

Across town, Abhimanyu Mawatwal is settling down for lunch at a food court in Worldmark Aerocity, a grand commercial centre boasting purified air.

A meal here could cost twice Singh's monthly salary, but it is a price Mawatwal is willing to pay because outside the smog is at hazardous levels.

"I love to come here for my meals. It is like getting a quick oxygen shot," the office worker says, surrounded by creeper vines and a faux stream as he breathed lungfuls of filtered air circulating through expensive filters.

"We need to bring greenery to concrete jungles and create places where everybody can come for a breath of fresh air," insists S. K. Sayal, CEO of Bharti Realty which owns Worldmark Aerocity.

Delhi's affluent, who are often better informed about the dangers of pollution, increasingly expect the same safety measures they have in place at home, to be available when they are out.&nbsp;

High-end eateries, bars and cinemas are tapping into that demand -- installing electronic air purifiers and creating dedicated areas of rich vegetation to help filter airborne toxins.

But for Singh, and the one in five Indians living on less than $2 a day, visiting such places is nothing more than a fantasy.

Over 870 cases of swine flu have been recorded in the national capital in the last three weeks, taking the total number of people affected by the H1N1 virus in the city this year to 2,835, according to a report of the Directorate General of Health Services Monday.

As per the report, the death toll due to swine flu in Delhi this year still stands at six.

The city had recorded 1,965 cases till February 18 and on Monday the number of people affected by the H1N1 infection rose to 2,835, it said.

The report had also mentioned the deaths of five more persons from comorbidity.

As per the report of the six persons who have died of swine flu this year, one belonged to Delhi, while the rest were residents of other states.

Amid the mounting cases of the H1N1 infection in the city, the Delhi government had in February issued a health advisory, prescribing the do's and don'ts.

Medical Director of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital Kishore Singh said the hospital is well-equipped to handle swine flu cases with adequate stock of medicines.

However, two Centre-run hospitals here have reported 13 deaths due to swine flu this year.

According to senior officials at the Safdarjung Hospital, three deaths due to swine flu have been recorded this season, while the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital has reported 10 fatalities.&nbsp;

Nine of the 10 people who died at the RML Hospital were from Delhi and another was from outside the city, officials said.

Seasonal Influenza (H1N1) is a self-limiting viral, air-borne disease spread from person-to-person, through large droplets generated through coughing and sneezing, indirect contact by touching a contaminated object or surface (fomite transmission like telephone, cell phones, computers, door handles etc) and close contact (including shaking hands, hugging, kissing), the advisory said.

The symptoms are fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty in breathing.

Other symptoms may include body ache, headache, fatigue, chills, diarrhoea and vomiting and blood-stained sputum.

There are three categories of H1N1 influenza -- A, B and C.

After holding a state-level review meeting on H1N1, the Delhi government recently said all government hospitals in the city are equipped with necessary logistics required for the management of the disease and drug oseltamivir along with personal protective equipment (PPE kits) and N95 masks are also available.

The advisory also asked people to avoid crowded places in the swine flu season and stay more than an arm's length distance away from persons sick with flu.

However, two Centre-run hospitals here have reported 13 deaths due to swine flu this year. After holding a state-level review meeting on H1N1, the Delhi government recently said all government hospitals in the city are equipped with necessary logistics required for the management of the disease and drug oseltamivir along with personal protective equipment (PPE kits) and N95 masks are also available. The advisory also asked people to avoid crowded places in the swine flu season and stay more than an arm's length distance away from persons sick with flu.

Taking its demand for full statehood for Delhi to another level in the run-up to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday started the `mini prachar rath` (mini-campaign vehicles).

The AAP launched full statehood movement program in Delhi`s northeastern, Chandni Chowk and New Delhi Lok Sabha.

Since long, the AAP has been raising the demand for full statehood for the national capital.

In this context, the party has also conducted several press conferences.In a recently held presser, AAP’s Delhi convener Gopal Rai informed about the launch of the ‘mini prachar rath’.Giving details about the event, Rai had said that 20 e-rickshaws will be used for this purpose, which will play recorded audio and video speeches of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on how both the Congress and BJP have “deceived” the people of the national capital on the issue.

Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha candidate Pankaj Gupta said, "Delhi is a half incomplete state, due to which the Delhi Government lacks many powers. Due to this, the Delhi Government could not do enough development work in the national capital because every work requires permission from the central government and for the last four years, the central government has been obstructing all development works of the Delhi government. Getting the full state will solve all these problems."

North-Eastern Lok Sabha candidate Dilip Pandey said, "Delhi`s full statehood is absolutely essential for the complete development of Delhi. New colleges will be created for the students so that all the students of the national capital will get admission in good colleges. New employment will be created for the youth, the responsibility of the police and government officials will be fixed for the protection of women and Delhi will be able to make crime free."

On March 7, Kejriwal wrote a letter to the people of the national capital appealing them to vote for full statehood of Delhi.

"Last time, you voted to elect the Prime Minister of the country. But this time, vote for full statehood of Delhi. Destiny and God give us only one chance. This time let`s make it count. This time vote for Aam Aadmi Party so that Delhi becomes a full state," he said.

An Air India flight from Delhi to Frankfurt Wednesday suffered a mid-air decompression and consequently, it returned to the airport "keeping the safety of 220 passengers in mind", said the national carrier in a statement.

According to airline officials, the flight faced decompression at the height of approximately 20,000 feet around 15 minutes after taking off.

"Air India flight AI121 operating from Delhi to Frankfurt today faced an issue of decompression and keeping the safety of the 220 passengers in mind, the flight had returned to Delhi. No passenger has suffered any injury," said the Air India spokesperson.

"The flight will now operate with a change of aircraft at 0600hrs on 7th March from Delhi. All passengers are safe and are being extended all assistance at Delhi. Air India is committed to maintaining the highest standards of passenger comfort and safety," the spokesperson added.&nbsp;

The standard time of departure of AI121 Delhi-Frankfurt flight is 1.35 pm daily.

The rainfall is due to a western disturbance that lies as a cyclonic circulation over East Afghanistan and as an induced cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan and neighbourhood, the country's apex weather agency said.

The central government and both the Delhi government and Uttar Pradesh government will fund. Also, some money would be drawn by means of loan," he said.

He said that the project would be completed by 2024.The minister also informed that cabinet cleared the proposal to operate electric buses in nine major cities of the state that includes Lucknow, Prayagraj, Agra, Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Varanasi, Shahjahanpur and Mathura.

He informed that the cabinet has also approved a discount of 25 per cent against existing 20 per cent to customers at the Gandhi Ashram on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.&nbsp;

Overall air quality over Delhi is in moderate category but it is predicted to enter into the &nbsp;"poor" category on Sunday owing to increased moisture in the air and normalisation of wind speed which was becoming high during the day time for the past few days, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

However, moisture is not going to last longer and may precipitate bringing back the AQI to "moderate" from Sunday onwards, it said.

According to Skymet Weather, a private weather forecasting agency, "On March 2, another fresh Western Disturbance will approach the northern hills which will once again induce a cyclonic circulation over the northwestern plains. A trough will also extend from circulation up to south Uttar Pradesh. This trough will be responsible for giving scattered rain and thundershowers over Delhi-NCR on March 2 and 3. Thereafter, the weather systems will once again weaken and move eastwards, leading to commencement of dry and cold northwesterly winds," Skymet added.&nbsp;

More than 25 people have been rescued so far, but the authorities believe several others are still trapped inside the hotel.

The injured have been rushed to three hospitals including the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML).

"A magisterial inquiry has been ordered, the district magistrate has been asked to probe the incident. All the hotels in the area will undergo safety checks," said Delhi minister Satyendra Jain.

Delhi Hotel Association Vice President Balan Mani, meanwhile, said, "All norms were followed here; license is issued only after inspection. Mishappening can occur in a house as well, " he added.

A video of the incident showed two people jumping from the fourth floor of the building. According to eyewitnesses, most deaths were caused due to suffocation.

"Dense to very dense fog observed at isolated places of Punjab and East Madhya Pradesh, while moderate fog at a few places over north Rajasthan and at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Visibility in major cities are Punjab Amritsar lowered down to 25 meters; Madhya Pradesh`s Satna to 50 meters," IMD in its daily weather forecast.

Mobile hit teams, anti-aircraft guns and sharpshooters have also been deployed to keep a watch on the eight-km-long parade route from Rajpath to the Red Fort, besides the nearby localities.

Snipers have been stationed atop high-rise buildings while scores of CCTV cameras are keeping a tight vigil on people's movements on the parade route.

Elaborate air defence measures, including deployment of anti-aircraft guns, have also been put in place to secure the airspace.

Nearly 25,000 security personnel drawn from the Delhi Police and central security forces have been deployed in Central Delhi. The police are also using counter-drone technology to thwart any attack or identify any suspicious flying object, a senior police officer said.
