Because even a dead person, is a potential carrier. They die alone, isolated from loved ones. Recent three cases show that coronavirus victims found no dignity even in death.

A coronavirus victim in New Delhi was refused a cremation. Authorities turned away the family members of the 68-year-old deceased. They said there were no guidelines. They were waiting for health ministry instructions.

How do you cremate a Covid-19 victim? Cremation ground officials were confused. The family, distraught. There was no time for grief. The logistics were more challenging.

This happened on March 14, the deceased woman was the second coronavirus casualty in India. Her family had to wait for a few hours before they could perform the last rites.

Nearly 6000 kms away, In Italy, the family of another victim was battling similar distress.47-year-old Teresa Franzese had succumbed to the coronavirus.

But authorities at Naples did not come forward to collect her body. Teresa's brother had to appeal on social media to persuade authorities into helping him cremate his sister.

It was after a 36-hour-long wait that Teresa's body finally found a casket. But several other victims are being denied even the dignity of a coffin or a casket.

Let's take you to Iran, Where both — the death toll and the size of mass graves — are expanding. The mass cemetery of Qom can now be seen from space.

The burials here are not in accordance with the Islamic traditions. In Iran, corpses are traditionally washed with soap and water before burial.

But in Qom, the fear of the spreading coronavirus is preventing medical workers and the kin of the deceased from observing tradition..

The families of victims aren't just dealing with death but also this taboo and fear. Medically speaking, the fear isn't unfounded.

Experts say — the coronavirus continues to live in a patient much after he or she has died. This makes medical handlers and family members performing the last rites vulnerable to the virus.

That said, the victims cannot de denied the dignity of a burial. Nobody seems to have an answer right now.

The spread continues, so does the quest for a cure. Several countries are in the race to develop a coronavirus cure.

Experts say the focus is on developing vaccines. About 35 companies and academic institutions are working on it. In America, the first round of tests has begun. A trial is being run in Washington to test a new vaccine.

On Monday, the participants were given their first shot.No pre and post-roll

"This is the first trial of this vaccine. So our goals are pretty basic. We want to look at the safety and then secondary to that, we want to look at the immune response, specifically, antibodies produced against that particular protein that the vaccine causes to be made," said Dr Lisa Jackson, Kaiser Permanente investigator leading the study.

China too has approved tests for its own coronavirus vaccine. It has been developed at china's academy of military medical sciences. More than 100 people will be administered the shot.

When can we expect these vaccines to arrive in the market?

Not anytime soon.

Experts at the world health organisation say they do not expect an approved vaccine to reach the market until next year.

A cure could take much longer. But — some early ideas look promising. A drug from Japan could be the answer to treating the coronavirus.

It is called "Favipiravir" — its a drug for influenza, that was approved for clinical use in Japan in 2014.

Favipiravir, also known as T-705, Avigan, or favilavir is an antiviral drug being developed by Toyama Chemical of Japan with activity against many RNA viruses.

The Chinese have tested favipiravir on coronavirus patients. They recovered faster. As of today, there are more than two lakh cases of the coronavirus.

Out of these — more than 80 thousand people have recovered.

So far, the patients are being given a combination of existing drugs.

This includes Remdesivir — a drug that was developed for the treatment of Ebola.

In Jaipur — a combination of two anti-HIV drugs was used to treat an Italian couple for the coronavirus. They too have recovered.

But a definitive cure is still work in progress.

A recent "self-check test" to assess whether someone has been infected by the deadly coronavirus went viral on social media.

Medical experts say that it is completely inaccurate.

The test claimed that people could find out whether they have coronavirus simply by holding their breath for more than 10 seconds. If they can hold their breath without coughing, the test claims they don't have the virus.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the validity of authorisation issued to Vakrangee Ltd to set up, own and operate white label automated teller machines (ATMs) in India.

The validity has been extended until March 31, 2021. White label ATMs are operated by non-bank entities.

RBI has assigned a target of minimum 1,000 ATMs to be deployed by Vakrangee for every calendar year starting 2020 for an initial period of three years.

The ATMs deployed will be in the ratio of 1:2:3 and applicable for metro and urban, semi-urban and rural regions respectively.

"ATM is one of the key services offered in our next-gen Vakrangee Kendra business model and it gives confidence to our customers, especially in rural and semi-urban centres," said Managing Director and Group CEO Dinesh Nandwana.

According to a recent report by Grant Thornton, Vakrangee is the fastest growing white label ATM player as well as the third-largest ATM operator in rural India.

Vakrangee currently has over 23,000 outlets (10,000 operational and 13,000 under on-boarding process) which are spread across 30 states and union territories, 500 districts and 6,150 postal codes. More than 70 per cent of them are in tier 5 and 6 towns.

Vakrangee's planned target is to reach at least 25,000 next-gen kendras by 2020 and further enhance it to reach three lakh outlets by 2024-25.

Incorporated in 1990, Vakrangee is a technology-driven company focused on building India's largest network of last-mile retail outlets to deliver real-time BFSI, ATM, e-commerce and logistics services to the unserved rural, semi-urban and urban markets.

A high-level committee formed under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokhrel pondered over implementing measures to prevent the killer bug from infecting more people in the Himalayan nation.

"All the passengers from European nations, East Asia and Middle East countries, such as Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan and those having transit in them (nations) from wherever their flight originates would be prohibited entry starting from mid-night of 20th March 2020 to 15th April 2020. Prisoners in the central jail here are working overtime to produce facemasks to prevent the deadly COVID-19 striking. In addition to providing protection to fellow inmates and prison staff, the produce will be shared with nine district and sub jails falling under Muzaffarpur Central Prison as well, Deputy Superintendent of the jail Sunil Kumar Maurya said.

From supplications at places of worship to hectic activities at the biggest hospital, this north Bihar district is witnessing invocation of all powers, human and otherwise, to prevent novel coronavirus hitting them.

Although nobody has so far tested positive for the dreaded virus in Bihar, where the state government has imposed a semi-lockdown as a preventive measure, Muzaffarpur which hit the headlines last year for losing close to 200 children to an outbreak of brain fever seems determined not to fall prey to yet another virulent affliction.

On making of facemasks by about 50 prisoners, the Deputy Superintendent of the jail said, “We have had a tradition of producing fabric at the Muzaffarpur Central Jail. An idea was floated why not use the skills acquired for producing masks which are in great demand but in short supply. The local administration seems impressed with the endeavour of the social outcasts to rise to a global challenge.

“It is a welcome step. Despite all precautions, we never know who is going to catch the infection at which place. The efforts by prisoners to protect themselves and the staff manning their premises is laudable. “Full assistance will be provided to Central Jail authorities in supply of the masks to other prisons,” Sub Divisional Magistrate (East) Kundan Kumar said.

A conservative town inhabited by a deeply religious citizenry, Muzaffarpur is also witnessing prayer congregations at temples and mosques in keeping with the tradition here of people of all faiths coming together when faced with a major challenge.

The Garib Nath temple, a renowned shrine devoted to Lord Shiva which attracts devotees from far and wide, is witness to the power of faith trumping the biggest fears as the footfall seems to have increased since the outbreak.

The temples mahant Vinay Pathak says, “faith can move mountains. People come here in search of strength to face a crisis which has caused worldwide scare. We advise the visitors to conduct regular ‘havans’ at their houses just like we have been performing here.

“The smoke emitted by burning of purified offerings cleanses the air and, who knows, could be an antidote as well,” Pathak added.

Chanting of ‘Mahamrityunjay mantra’, which the faith believe to be potent enough to dispel illness and untimely death, is taking place round the clock at the shrine in addition to ‘havans’, the mahant said.

Just a few yards away stands the Chhata Chowk mosque where large number of devotees appear in skull-caps to offer namaz.

“It is a pandemic threatening to engulf the entire world and dua (prayers) are needed as much as dawa (medicines). May God, who is one, listen to the common wish expressed by humanity in myriad ways,” says Imtiaz Ahmed, a devout local resident.

Meanwhile, the health authorities are busy with their own efforts, not leaving prevention and cure to divine intervention.

District Medical Officer Shailesh Kumar Singh says a total of 42 people here who have come from abroad, have been tested but their results have been negative. “Nonetheless, a five-bed special ward has been set up at the Sadar Hospital, manned by medical staff armed with a special kit comprising medicines and other logistics required for primary care of those with suspected symptoms,” he said.

The SKMCH referral hospital, which bore the brunt of last years brain fever epidemic accounting for over 120 deaths is fully geared up to meet the latest challenge.

SKMCH superintendent Sunil Shahi says “we have a 30-ward insulation ward ready. Samples of patients with suspected symptoms are being routinely sent to RMRI, Patna. We appeal to all to remain alert, but avoid panic.”

Queen Elizabeth will move to Windsor Castle, cancel her traditional garden parties and postpone investitures as the threat of coronavirus triggers a wholesale ripping up of the royal diaries for all members of her family, reported The Guardian. Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch, who will be 94 next month, would be leaving Buckingham Palace on Thursday. “Her Majesty will move to Windsor Castle for the Easter period on Thursday 19 March, one week earlier than planned. It is likely the Queen will stay there beyond the Easter period,” it said. The precautionary measures follow the government’s announcement that the spread of coronavirus in London is thought to be some weeks ahead of the rest of UK. The Queen has already cancelled planned engagements. “Three garden parties hosted by the Queen, due to be held at Buckingham Palace in May, will not now take place,” a Buckingham Palace spokesman said. “Guests already invited to these garden parties will be asked to attend in 2021. “Two additional garden parties given for the Not Forgotten Association and the National Trust will also not take place.” A decision is yet to be made on the annual garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. The cancellation of the Queen’s garden parties is thought to be unprecedented. Palace officials could not recall a similar occasion in recent memory.

A day after Idris Elba revealed on Twitter that he had tested positive for coronavirus, the actor interacted with fans live on the social media platform and revealed when he got contracted the disease. Without taking anyone's name, Elba revealed that he felt he had contracted the infection on March 4 at an event in Wembley.

The event had Canadian PM Justin Trudeau's wife Sophie in attendance along with Lewis Hamilton. While Idris never named Sophie in his live chat, the photos from the event show the two posing along with Hamilton.

"It's hard to say when I got the disease or when I contracted COVID-19, it's hard to say when. I will say that I know I've been exposed to it from March 4. That's when the person that came up positive, that was the time I got in contact with that person," the actor said.
"So essentially, I could have been positive from March 4, but it's hard to say when I contracted someone with corona, you can contract it at any time but my known exposure was March 4," the actor further added.

"On Friday, last week, I was told that someone I had been in contact with had tested positive. I am on location about to start filming. The news breaks that this person, who is also in the public eye, has tested positive," Elba recalled.

The actor on Monday revealed he had tested positive in a video post. The video had him talking to the camera while his wife Sabrina sat beside him. The actor's fans raised concerns about the couple's proximity and the two even faced criticism for not adhering to precautionary measures.

Addressing the backlash, Elba said that how the model wanted to be by her husband's side. " 'Sabrina's good too. Sabrina today finally managed to get a test, and we're thankful for that. Generally, Sabrina's fine. Nervous of course. Worried."

"Just for clarification, Sabrina wanted to be by my side. I love her even more for it and I would do the same for her. When something like this is going on in the world, love is all you can get, who am I to turn down my wife's support?

"We presumed if I had it, she would have it too. As much as I want her to be safe, we calculated that risk and decided to be together. Hope you guys can understand that. I love Sabrina for standing by me and being in that video, it was the most important moment for me," the actor concluded.

(Sophie Trudeau, Idris Elba and Lewis Hamilton pictured together at a charity event in Wembley, UK. Image via Facebook) The actor on Monday revealed he had tested positive in a video post. Worried." "Just for clarification, Sabrina wanted to be by my side. Google's coronavirus testing website hits upper ceiling after going live

Amid the global coronavirus scare, more than 9,000 people have moved in from Iran to Pakistan through the Taftan border town.

The town of Taftan, which borders Iran is currently hosting the people in a 'tent city', under the guidance of the Balochistan government.

People who were earlier quarantined in Iran are being put in isolation again to minimise the risk of infection.

However, the area lacks many facilities. In fact, it was only last Thursday that the town set up a COVID-19 testing lab.

Most people were moved to provinces across the country before this facility was set up.

Out of the 197 active coronavirus cases in Pakistan, 153 are from Taftan. Patients were moved back-and-forth under the careful eye of the government.

The three places that are becoming the hubs of coronavirus cases in Pakistan are Sukkur with 119 positive cases, Dera Ghazi Khan with five cases, and Dera Ismail Khan with 15 cases.

It seems like Taftan border is becoming Pakistan's Achilles Heel in terms of the coronavirus outbreak. To put things into perspective, here is the distance between Taftan and the three aforementioned places:

Sukkur to Taftan: 988 kilometres

Dera Ghazi Khan to Tafan: 1,118 kilometres

Dera Ismail Khan to Taftan: 1,180 kilometres

Considering the distance, the cases could have been easily isolated at their earlier locations, which would have kept the count in Pakistan low.

Many pilgrims were allowed to return to their cities from Taftan. However, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sent the pilgrims to isolation facilities in Sukkur and Dera Ismail Khan where everybody was tested further before being allowed to travel.

Currently, Pakistan has 197 cases: 155 in Sindh, 15 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ten in Balochistan, five in Gilgit-Baltistan, two in Islamabad, and one in Punjab.

The Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah at a recent press conference said that people were not adequately quarantined in Taftan and that many pilgrims were kept together. If true, this could explain the sudden surge in the number of cases in Pakistan.

All states in Pakistan have shut down educational institutions until April 5 to clamp down on the virus before more people get infected.

In an interview, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he fears Pakistan won't be able to cope with a major outbreak, saying the country's health facilities would be overwhelmed and would lack resources

Recently, the country has also shut down the western border with Afghanistan and Iran.

COVID-19 emerged in Wuhan, China, late last year and has since infected 182,405 people and killed at least 7, 154 people.
