Udaipur Violence News:&nbsp;Violent clashes and stone pelting broke out in the north Indian city of Udaipur on Monday (Nov 26) after BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh Mewar was coronated as the 77th Maharana of Mewar on Monday (Nov 25).&nbsp;

The clashes started after the BJP MLA and his supporters were denied entry inside the palace in the state of Rajasthan because of a stand-off with his cousin Dr Lakshay Raj Singh Mewar, who along with the Maharana's uncle Shreeji Arvind Singh Mewar manage the trust which now runs the palace.

Singh was anointed the titular head after his father Mahendra Singh Mewar died earlier this month.

The row started after 10 pm as the supporters of the MLA started throwing stones and also made attempts to get inside the gates of the palace.

As tensions escalated, others started retaliating inside the palace and stone pelting broke out from the two sides. In the violent brawl, three people suffered injuries as the police made attempts to control the mob.

Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal and District Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal reportedly spoke to Vishvaraj Singh and tried to pacify his supporters.

The roots of the dispute lie in the long-standing feud between newly-anointed Vishvaraj Singh’s father Mahendra Singh Mewar and his estranged brother Arvind Singh Mewar, who are descendants of famous Rajput king Maharana Pratap.&nbsp;

Karen National Union (KNU), one of the most prominent ethnic armed groups in Myanmar that advocates for the rights and autonomy of the Karen people, told AFP news agency that the displaced junta troops were spotted near the terminus of one of the Friendship bridges on the Myanmar side.

Despite the tense situation, reports from AFP suggested a semblance of calm along the Moei River.&nbsp;

Inside the prison on Monday, a Reuters reporter saw cell doors broken open or removed entirely, and piles of trash from an ongoing clean-up.

The police urged inmates to return to prison in a statement on Monday, and offered the public rewards for details on the whereabouts of escapees or the attackers.

Tentative&nbsp;Calm

Life returned to Freetown on Monday afternoon as shops and businesses opened after the government reduced an all-day curfew to a nightly one running from 2100-0600 GMT.

<h2>What do we know about the clashes?</h2>

The violence was preceded by reported week-long tensions between the two groups over a dispute that centres on a building in Kirkuk that was once the headquarters for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Iraqi army has used as a base since 2017.&nbsp;

The building has also historically been disputed between the federal government in Baghdad and authorities in the autonomous Kurdistan region of the north.&nbsp;

Recently, the central government planned to return the building to the KDP in a show of goodwill but Arab and Turkmen opponents set up a camp outside the gate last week in protest.&nbsp;

According to the police, the violence sparked when a group of Kurdish protesters approached the camp on Saturday. This was after the local media reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had ordered the site to be handed over to the KDP.&nbsp;

Sudani has since called for a commission of inquiry into the incident. The Kirkuk police, as per Reuters said that people were injured after stones were thrown and metal bars used to attack.&nbsp;

On Sunday morning, General Jabbar Naeema al-Taee, Kirkuk’s top security official, told AFP that the building at the centre of the dispute was “under the control of the army” of Iraq and that the sit-in was over.

<h2>Death toll rises&nbsp;</h2>

At least four Kurds were killed and 15 others were injured due to the clashes, said Amer Shuani, the local police spokesman, on Sunday. Health officials said at least three out of the four victims were shot dead. Police and hospital sources had said earlier that one Kurdish protester was killed.&nbsp;

Police and security officials in the city said they are investigating the circumstances of the deaths, including who opened fire.

<h2>Curfew lifted&nbsp;</h2>

After the clashes, the Iraqi PM ordered a city-wide curfew to prevent an escalation of the violence and called on “political parties, social organizations, and community leaders to play their part in preventing strife and preserving security, stability, and order”.&nbsp;

On Sunday, General Kawa Gharib, the police chief in Kirkuk, told AFP that the curfew has since been lifted and that the “situation is now stable throughout the city.”

This comes a day after the clashes between Kurdish residents on one side and Turkmen and Arabs on the other were reported. What do we know about the clashes? The violence was preceded by reported week-long tensions between the two groups over a dispute that centres on a building in Kirkuk that was once the headquarters for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Iraqi army has used as a base since 2017. The building has also historically been disputed between the federal government in Baghdad and authorities in the autonomous Kurdistan region of the north. Recently, the central government planned to return the building to the KDP in a show of goodwill but Arab and Turkmen opponents set up a camp outside the gate last week in protest. According to the police, the violence sparked when a group of Kurdish protesters approached the camp on Saturday. This was after the local media reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had ordered the site to be handed over to the KDP. Sudani has since called for a commission of inquiry into the incident. The Kirkuk police, as per Reuters said that people were injured after stones were thrown and metal bars used to attack. On Sunday morning, General Jabbar Naeema al-Taee, Kirkuk’s top security official, told AFP that the building at the centre of the dispute was “under the control of the army” of Iraq and that the sit-in was over. Death toll rises At least four Kurds were killed and 15 others were injured due to the clashes, said Amer Shuani, the local police spokesman, on Sunday. Health officials said at least three out of the four victims were shot dead. Police and hospital sources had said earlier that one Kurdish protester was killed. Police and security officials in the city said they are investigating the circumstances of the deaths, including who opened fire. Curfew lifted After the clashes, the Iraqi PM ordered a city-wide curfew to prevent an escalation of the violence and called on “political parties, social organizations, and community leaders to play their part in preventing strife and preserving security, stability, and order”. Five Burkinabe police officers have died in an attack in the centre-east of Burkina Faso, with at least 40 of the attackers "neutralised" when the authorities launched a counter-attack, the army said Sunday.

The attack occurred on Saturday afternoon when members of a police mobile intervention force were targeted near Diougo-Yourga, in Koulpelogo province near the Togo border, the army said.

That attack "cost the lives of five police officers. Four others were evacuated and treated for injuries", the military added in a statement.

"In response, at least forty terrorists were neutralised and equipment seized," it said.

Koulpelogo was the scene of another deadly attack on August 7, when around twenty people were killed in Nohao near the town of Bittou, according to security and local sources.

In mid-July, Burkina Faso's transitional president Captain Ibrahim Traore, who seized power in a September 2022 coup, deplored the "increasingly recurrent attacks against civilians", saying the jihadists were displaying "cowardice".

The apparent motive for the country's two coups in recent years was anger at failures to stem a jihadist insurgency since it spilled over from neighbouring Mali in 2015.

More than 16,000 civilians, troops and police have died in jihadist attacks, according to an NGO count, including more than 5,000 since the start of this year.

Two people were killed in Lebanon on the 9th of August in clashes between the Shi'ite armed group, Hezbollah and the residents of a Christian town. The deadly violence broke out after residents surrounded an overturned truck, on a major highway linking Beirut to the Bekaa valley and Syria, which they claimed was carrying weapons and ammunition for the Hezbollah. Both sides blamed each other for opening fire first and in the ensuing exchange of fire, both sides lost a member. One day prior to the incident, Tel Aviv had threatened to "return Lebanon to the stone age" in any war against Hezbollah, following weeks of friction with the group along the countries' border. Clashes broke out between Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas's secular Fatah movement and the Islamist groups Jund Al-Sham and Shabab Al-Muslim over the weekend. More than a dozen people have been killed and dozens wounded and thousands have been forced to flee the violence.
