Carlos Tornero, an archeologist working on the site, said that the evidence shows Gomphotheres roamed in this region thousands of years ago but were hunted down by the inhabitants.&nbsp;

"The hypothesis we're working with is that it's about hunting, hunting events," Tornero told Reuters.&nbsp;

"We think this because the Gomphothere is a very large animal and dangerous and it probably required several people (to hunt)," he added.&nbsp;

This was a significant find in a region where researchers have discovered the remains of a number of various ancient species in the past. &nbsp;

The draft also talked of fighting climate change and protecting Chileans’ right to choose their own identity “in all its dimensions and manifestations, including sexual characteristics, gender identities and expressions.”

For example, it had defined Chile as a “plurinational” state, which means 11 Indigenous groups—accounting for nearly 13 per cent of the population—could have been allowed to govern themselves with their own court systems.

The site was closed down for further investigation and in their statement, Lundin Mining said that none of the workers present were injured or affected by the hole.

“Upon detection, the area was immediately isolated, and the relevant regulatory authorities notified. There has been no impact to personnel, equipment or infrastructure.”

A&nbsp;defrocked&nbsp;priest&nbsp;who once held senior positions in the Catholic Church in Chile was sentenced to&nbsp;15&nbsp;years&nbsp;in prison Saturday for raping and otherwise sexually&nbsp;abusing&nbsp;minors&nbsp;for more than a decade.

The sentence against Oscar Munoz, 60, was handed down by a criminal court in the capital Santiago.

Munoz was a well-known clergyman who held senior positions under the archbishop of Santiago and as recently as 2018 under Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati.

The latter is accused of covering up many cases of sexual abuse of&nbsp;minors&nbsp;within the church in Chile.

Munoz is accused of raping or&nbsp;abusing&nbsp;at least five&nbsp;minors. Two other alleged victims are still being evaluated.
