<p>Asking the separatists to come forward for talks and save the state from "bloodshed", Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday termed the unilateral ceasefire and the offer of dialogue by the Centre as an opportunity that does not come every day.</p>

<p>"The people of Kashmir and the leadership here have to decide on the opportunity provided by the Centre in terms of unilateral ceasefire, which stopped the bloodshed here, and then the readiness for dialogue, how we benefit from it," Mehbooba said addressing a convention of her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).</p>

<p>Mehbooba said the ceasefire and talks offer an opportunity to the separatists to stop bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir.</p>

<p>"There are other parties who are not in the mainstream, and if they have some other agenda, they have an opportunity now if they want to stop bloodshed in J&K. We always say that there has to be a political solution to J&K and the army or CRPF or police cannot resolve it.&nbsp</p>

<p>"It can only be resolved politically thorough dialogue. And when there is an offer of dialogue from the Centre, I request all stake holders to come forward to save J&K and its economy," she said.&nbsp</p>

<p>While the Centre announced unilateral ceasefire for the holy month of Ramadhan, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh recently said the Centre was ready to talk to separatists in the valley if they are willing for a dialogue.</p>

<p>The chief minister said while she cannot force the separatists, they have to think on giving the youth in Kashmir a way out from the stone and gun culture.</p>

<p>"We cannot force you or give you a dictation, but can only request&nbspeven a day before yesterday a youth got killed after he came under a vehicle during stone-pelting. He was an orphan but why take to stone-pelting. Why not give them a way out from this morass, from stone or gun culture," she said.</p>

<p>Putting the onus on the separatists, Mehbooba said the mainstream parties in the state gave them an opportunity by providing an atmosphere for talks and now it was up to the separatists to take advantage of the opportunity.</p>

<p>"We, mainstream parties, gave you unilateral ceasefire and an atmosphere for talks, now it is up to you - the separatists. I request them that it is an opportunity, that you always say that military solution is no solution and only dialogue is the way forward to achieve a political solution. So, today you have an offer of dialogue".&nbsp</p>

<p>"They (Centre) are saying come and talk to us. I think if J&K has to be taken out of this morass and difficult time, then all be it mainstream parties or separatists have to come forward and use this opportunity. Such an opportunity does not come every day," she said, adding "I request all the leaders (separatists) " you are very tall leaders - but right now use this opportunity of talks to save J&K. Come forward and talk".</p>

<p>She said the eyes of the whole country were on Kashmir and if the people here lose this opportunity, then no one will support or advocate for them tomorrow.</p>

<p>"The Home Minister of this country is saying they want to embrace Kashmiris and are ready for talks. If we lose this opportunity, nobody will support us tomorrow, no one will advocate for us. The eyes of the whole country are on J&K and its leadership to see what they decide and how they try to save the people of Kashmir, especially its youth. If we have to save J&K, this is an opportunity for us," Mehbooba said.&nbsp</p>

<p>Amidst reports of more youth joining militant ranks, the chief minister said the increase in the militancy would only increase the footprints of the security forces in the valley.</p>

<p>"The increase in the number of youth picking up guns will increase the presence of army, CRPF and the police here. The more the situation improves, the more we can tell Army, CRPF or police that your role is over and you reduce your footprints," she said.</p>

<p>Referring to the spate of grenade attacks over the last few days, Mehbooba said gun or grenade attacks achieve nothing.</p>

<p>"Despite the unilateral ceasefire, there are grenade attacks. They do not see that civilians are getting killed, they do not see that army or CRPF jawans have come from far-flung areas for their bread and butter, what will this achieve".</p>

<p>"There have been thousands of grenade attacks till now, thousands have picked up guns and become militants, but what has been achieved? We have achieved Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, Poonch-Rawalkote road and if the situation improves, I promise you that we will re-open more such routes," she said.</p>

<p>The chief minister also batted for talks between India and Pakistan and condemned the ceasefire violations on the border.</p>

<p>"Till both the countries come closer, situation will not improve. J&K bears the maximum impact of the relationship between India and Pakistan. So, our party's agenda is that they should talk to each other," she said.</p>

Ceasefire, dialogue offer opportunity to save J&K from bloodshed: Mehbooba

<p>A special hotline contact was established between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan and India on Tuesday, the Pakistan army said.</p>

<p>Both DGMOs reviewed the prevailing situation along the Line of Control and Working Boundary and mutually agreed to undertake sincere measures to improve the existing situation ensuring peace and avoidance of hardships to the civilians along the borders," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, said in a statement.</p>

<p>They agreed to fully implement the ceasefire understanding of 2003 in letter and spirit and to ensure that the ceasefire agreement will not be violated by both sides from now on, it said.</p>

<p>The officials also agreed that in case of any issue, restraint will be exercised and the matter will be resolved through utilisation of existing mechanisms of hotline contacts and border flag meetings at local commander's level.</p>

<p>In the wake of the Ramzaan, the Home Ministry had suspended any operation by state security forces against the militants.&nbsp;However, the forces had the right to respond to an attack in order to safeguard themselves.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir police along with the army have busted a terrorist hideout in Ramban district's Kalimasta forest area. The forces have also recovered huge stock of arms and ammunition.</p>

<p>Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Monday launched a stinging attack on Pakistan for unprovoked mortar shelling and small arms fire along the international border even during the holy month of Ramzan, a day after the Pakistani Rangers called and 'pleaded' to stop firing.</p>

<p>He said that this was the most 'napaak' activity that Pakistan could indulge in during the holy month.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The minister of state in the Prime Minister's Office said that by firing from across the border Pakistan had proved to the world that it had no faith in Ramzan, Islam and Holy Quran.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The unprovoked mortar shelling started in the morning, with Pakistani Rangers firing 80 my and 120 my mortars on civilian areas. In view of the firing, there was panic in the area with people staying indoors.</p>

<p>Significantly, on Sunday, a security forces spokesperson said: “Rangers had called up Jammu BSF formation and beseeched to stop firing.” He added that “for last three days, the precision fire of BSF troopers on Pak firing locations inflicted heavy loss to them”.</p>

Jammu and Kashmir: 1 BSF soldier, 4 civilians killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan

<p>A Border Security Force (BSF) soldier was killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, news agency ANI reports.</p>

<p>20-year-old, Sepoy Mustapure Shubham Suryakant hailed from Maharashtra's Konerwadi village and is survived by his mother.</p>

<p>A ceremonial farewell with full military honours will be held at Nagrota on February 12 morning following which the mortal remains of the brave heart will be moved by aircraft to Patna and thereafter to his hometown by road on February 13.</p>

Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistan Army violates ceasefire in Poonch

<p>The Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Sigh Chouhan has promised to pay an amount of Rs 1 crore to the wife of Rifleman Ramavatar who lost his life in ceasefire violation on Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The chief minister said that the soldier sacrificed his life for the safety of the&nbsp;nation and that his wife is the daughter of the entire state.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The compensation will be given to the soldier&#39;s wife as &quot; samman rashi&quot;. Also, the parents of the deceased soldier will be given Rs 5,000 per month for life, the CM said.</p>

<p>Pakistani troops again violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir today, killing an Army jawan, Jagsir Singh.<br />

A senior police official said the jawan, posted in a forward area in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, was killed when he was hit by a bullet from across the border in the early hours today.<br />

He said Pakistani troops also fired indiscriminately in Digwar sector of nearby Poonch district.<br />

The firing from across the border started around 1 am and continued till 5.30 am, the official said.<br />

Amid the spurt in ceasefire violations by Pakistan, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat yesterday reviewed the operational preparedness of the force here and the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.<br />

The Army Chief also visited forward posts along the LoC and interacted with soldiers in Rajouri sector, where an Army Major and three jawans were killed by Pakistani troops on December 23.<br />

J&K: Soldier killed as Pakistan violates ceasefire in Nowshera

<p>A day after Pakistani forces killed<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/jk-3-soldiers-killed-in-pakistan-ceasefire-violation-in-keri-27540"> four Indian soldiers</a> in across the Line of Control (LoC) Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani soldiers again targeted Indian forward posts and villages in the states&#39;s Poonch district on Sunday afternoon.</p>

<p>Firing between the two sides was going on when the last reports came. Indian troops guarding the LoC retaliated effectively, a police official said.</p>

<p>Pakistani troops started firing from heavy and light weapons from across the border, targeting forward posts and villages in Shahpur sector around 12.55 pm today, a police official said.</p>

<p>However, there is no immediate report of any casualty in the skirmishes, the official said.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a Pakistani soldier was killed on Sunday in retaliatory fire by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir&#39;s Jhangar sector, sources told ANI.</p>

<p>On Saturday, Pakistani forces opened fire on an Indian Army patrol, killing a Major and three soldiers in Rajouri district&#39;s Keri sector.</p>

Thirty-four persons, including 14 Army personnel, 12 civilians and four BSF personnel have been killed in the 881 ceasefire violations by Pakistan across the LoC and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir this year, the highest in the past seven years. Pakistan has violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir 771 times till December 10, and 110 times along the IB till November-end, officials say. this year. <p>The Chief of Army Staff visited the Rawalpindi Corps headquarters where he was briefed on the prevailing situation along the Line of Control (LoC)/the Line of Actual Contact (LAC) and operational preparedness, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), army&#39;s media wing, said in a statement.</p>

<p>&quot;Expressing satisfaction on the response to India&#39;s ceasefire violations, Bajwa said that there cannot be any let up for our preparedness for the response against perpetual threat on our eastern border including LOC/LAC,&quot; the ISPR said.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, China&#39;s Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs Deng Xijun called on Bajwa at the army headquarters in Rawalpindi.</p>

<p>Matters of mutual interest including regional security with particular emphasis on Pak-Afghan border management and counter-terrorism efforts were discussed, the ISPR added.&nbsp;</p>
