As per a CNN report, a New York Times reporter in her forthcoming book has made this revelation.

The reporter Maggie Haberman, in her book, "Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America," revealed that Trump repeatedly told his aides that he would not let incoming President Joe Biden take over and that he's "just not going to leave".

In the early aftermath of the results, according to Haberman, who has been covering Trump since his win in 2016, the outgoing president appeared to acknowledge that he had lost to Biden. He even consoled one aide by stating, "We did our best."

However, something caused his mood to shift, and he abruptly told staff members he had no plans to leave the White House for Biden to move in.

Trump also reportedly said to Ronna McDaniel, the chair of the Republican National Committee, "Why should I leave if they stole it from me?"

The disclosures from the book come as US House and Justice Department investigators are looking into Trump's refusal to relinquish power after the 2020 election.&nbsp;

"Mr. Reffitt's reluctance to admit early that his behaviour is illegal is concerning. And I want to be very clear ... under no legitimate definition of the term 'patriot' (does) Mr. Reffitt's behaviour on and around January 6 fit the term. It is the antithesis of the word," District Judge Dabney Friedrich said in the official judgement.

"The officers at the Capitol are the patriots, as well as those who fought and even died to protect our democracy, our rule of law ... those in the mob are not. Not only are they not patriots, they're a direct threat to our democracy and will be punished as such," he added according to CNN.

The jury convinced Reffitt on five charges - transporting and carrying a firearm on Capitol grounds, interfering with Capitol Police and obstructing an official proceeding, according to the CNN report.

The accused shot videos inside the US Capitol building while holding a gun and that was used against him as evidence. Prosecutor Jeffrey Nestler argued that Reffitt wanted to cause harm to the elected officials and asked the judge to announce a strict prison sentence in all riot-related cases.

"We do believe he is a domestic terrorist," Nestler said according to the CNN report.

Moss, who is Black, described people making "hateful" and "racist" threats of violence following the baseless accusations, including one message saying: "Be glad it's 2020 and not 1920."

"This turned my life upside down. I no longer give out my business card, I don't transfer calls," Moss testified.

"I don't want anyone knowing my name... I don't go to the grocery store. Haven't been anywhere at all."

Freeman said in her deposition she had lost her good name and sense of security because "number 45 and his ally Rudy Giuliani decided to scapegoat me and my daughter Shaye, to push their own lies about how the presidential election was stolen."

The mother and daughter were among poll workers or election officials in several states who found themselves pressured to thwart the will of millions of voters based on bogus claims of fraud, the panel said.

Rusty Bowers, speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives, testified that he asked Giuliani "on multiple occasions" for evidence of his stolen election claims.

He told committee members Giuliani said "we've got lots of theories, we just don't have the evidence."

Trump issued a statement, read out during the hearing, attempting to discredit Bowers, calling him a "RINO" -- Republican In Name Only -- and claiming that the lawmaker had told Trump the election was rigged and that Trump had in fact won Arizona. 
Bowers said both claims were false.

'Part of the playbook'

Committee chairman Bennie Thompson had started the hearing by asserting that Trump "pressuring public servants into betraying (their) oath was a fundamental part of the playbook."

Liz Cheney, the committee's vice chair, said Trump was aware that his false claims of fraud could lead to violence, but he assumed a "direct and personal role" in the disinformation campaign anyway.

US presidents are not elected directly by citizens, but chosen by "electors" named to a body called the electoral college by the party that wins the presidential vote in each state.

The committee says a key plank of the plot to subvert the 2020 election was getting pro-Trump Republicans in swing states won by Biden to submit official-looking but fake certificates claiming they were the legitimate electors.

The committee says Trump pressed his vice president Mike Pence to accept these "fake electors" when he was overseeing certification of Biden's victory on January 6, 2021.&nbsp;

Pence ultimately refused to recognize the pro-Trump slates and the president's supporters rioted for hours at the Capitol in unprecedented scenes of brutality that led to at least five deaths.

Sexualized threats

At one point after the election, Trump personally called Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel to get involved in his pressure campaign, according to videotaped testimony by McDaniel.

Trump put on his lawyer John Eastman, McDaniel said, "to talk about the importance of the RNC helping the campaign gather these contingent electors."

The exchange is crucial because the committee has promised to provide evidence of a direct link between Trump and the scheme to put forward the false electors.

In-person witnesses included Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger, whom Trump pushed to "find" enough votes to overcome Biden's lead in the battleground state in a phone call that is the subject of a state-level criminal probe.

Raffensperger revealed that 28,000 Republicans voted down-ballot in Georgia in 2020 but skipped the presidential race, which Biden won by just 12,000 votes. 
The official described being inundated with vile messages and said his wife began receiving "sexualized" threats after Trump made them briefly infamous among his supporters.&nbsp;

He also described a break-in at his widowed daughter-in-law's home sparked by the election fraud claims.

"Moments require you to stand up and take the shots, and do your job, which is what we did," he told the hearing.

"Their interviews at the Capitol were authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed," CBS said.&nbsp;

However, they were advised to leave the building in the early hours, but they stayed back to shoot more sequences in the halls when they got detained.&nbsp; 
"After leaving the members' offices on their last interview of the day, the production team stayed to film stand-ups and other final comedy elements in the halls when they were detained by Capitol Police." 
 
The statement reads via Variety, “The building was closed to visitors, and these individuals were determined to be a part of a group that had been directed by the USCP to leave the building earlier in the day. They were charged with Unlawful Entry. This is an active criminal investigation, and may result in additional criminal charges after consultation with the U.S. Attorney.” 
 
As per the reports, all of them were released later that night.

However, the business mogul himself has declared that he will not be returning to Twitter. Talking to Fox News, he said that he will join his own startup Truth Social over the next seven days.

"I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth."

The Republican leader however did say a few words of praise for Elon Musk.

"I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth," he said.

However, as per an AFP report, Trump has only posted once since the platform's launch in February.

Following its launch, the app was downloaded by over one million people, but interest appears to have dwindled due to technical issues and excessive wait times to access accounts.

Still, Trump claims that “what we're finding is that the response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter. Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can”.

Meanwhile,&nbsp;Elon Musk said that free speech is the "bedrock of a functioning democracy".

He further added that Twitter is the "digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated".&nbsp;

A brag about rioting to an Uber driver has led to arrest of a Capitol rioter by FBI in the US. Capitol Hill riots on January 6, 2021 were perpetrated by supporters of US President Donald Trump. Jerry Braun, one of the rioters, took an Uber to go home after the violence on the day. He had an eye-injury caused due to the scuffles during the rioting.

The driver noticed the injury and asked about it and the general mayhem on Capitol Hill.

“Well it started around, right when I got there. I tore down the barricades,” Braun bragged.

The conversation was recorded on the camera the taxi driver had installed inside the vehicle. The driver asked Braun why he tore down the barricades.

“Well, because, so we could get to the Capitol,” Braun replied.

“Well, how’d that work out for ya?” asked the driver

“Well, it looks like, uh, Biden’s gonna be our president,” said Braun. The conversation from the recording was reported by The Guardian.

The recording and tip-off from the Uber driver sent the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on a 15-month investigation.

Braun got off the vehicle at Holiday Inn in Arlington, Virginia. Authorities found that he had checked in on January 5 and checked out after two days. Authorities got his phone number and address from the inn. Braun was from South El Monte, California.

Just getting Braun's whereabouts may not have been fully enough to build a watertight case against him. Guardian reported that to ascertain whether he really was Jerry Braun, FBI compared his images from the Uber taxi to those with California state authorities. It was a match.

Investigators then started to sift through the footage of the Capitol Hill riots. They found Braun scuffling with people, even raising a wooden plank againsy a security official. He also appeared to assault a person who was wearing a helmet with letters 'Press' on it.

Braun was arrested earlier this month on April 12.

Guy Reffitt, 49, an oil industry worker from Texas, is accused of bringing a gun to Washington, battling police officers, impeding an official proceeding and other offenses.

Moreover, his children are expected to testify against him at the trial.

Prosecutor Jeffrey Nestler, in his opening statement, described Reffitt as a "leader" of the "worst assault on the Capitol since the War of 1812," when British troops set fire to the seat of Congress.

"A mob needs leaders," Nestler said, and Reffitt was "the tip of this mob's spear."

William Welch, Reffitt's defense attorney, claimed that his client did not bring handgun to Capitol. He also said that Refitt never actually entered the building or assaulted anyone.

More than 750 people have been arrested around the United States for their roles in the failed bid by supporters of the former president to prevent Congress from certifying Democrat Joe Biden's victory in the November 2020 presidential election.

Nearly 220 people have pleaded guilty to various charges but Reffitt is the first person facing criminal charges to go on trial for their role in the violent storming of the Capitol.

Reffitt, who has pleaded not guilty, came to the demonstration with other members of a right-wing anti-government group called the Three Percenters, according to the affidavit supporting his arrest.

Photographs released by law enforcement showed Reffitt on the steps of the Capitol wearing a black motorcycle helmet and bulletproof vest.

In one picture, Reffitt is seen washing out his eyes with water after being repelled with pepper spray by police defending the Capitol. 
According to the affidavit, Reffitt's teenaged son and daughter told the FBI that their father, on his return to Texas, had threatened them if they cooperated with law enforcement.

"If you turn me in, you're a traitor and you know what happens to traitors... traitors get shot," Reffitt was quoted as saying.

Reffitt was arrested on January 19, 2021 and FBI agents recovered an AR-15 rifle and Smith &amp; Wesson pistol from his home in Wylie, a suburb of Dallas.

Reffitt, who has been jailed in Washington since his arrest, could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
