After a defining visit to the US, Prime Minister Modi is all set to begin his visit to Egypt today. Once again Prime Minister Modi is expected to fit in close to a dozen engagements with a 24-hour window starting with a round table with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and leaders of India and Egypt. Two of the oldest civilizations in the world now hoping to start a new chapter in the relationship.

As he wraps up his state visit to the United States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a stop in Egypt on June 24 and 25. During his visit to Egypt, the two countries will strengthen the ties and boost co-operation in many fields, including security, trade, investment and more. 
 
While the diplomatic talks between the two countries go on, PM Modi will visit&nbsp;the Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah mosque on June 24.&nbsp;It is located in the Egyptian capital Cairo. It is the fourth oldest mosque in Egypt and the second largest after the mosque of ibn Tulun.

The Al-Hakim-Amr Allah mosque was constructed under&nbsp;the Fatimid dynasty. The sixth Fatimid Caliph Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah gave orders to build the mosque in 990 AD.

The centuries-old structure has stood the test of time. But the passage of it has not been kind to the structure. When French armed forces were in Egypt, they used the mosque as a barrack.&nbsp;

The mosque was restored by Dawoodi Bohra community in Cairo with help from Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

<h2>So why exactly is PM Modi visiting this mosque?</h2>

The mosque is an important religious site for Dawoodi Bohra community. India has a large population of Dawoodi Bohra community. Besides, PM Modi has a connect with the community. His home state of Gujarat has Dawoodi Bohra population. PM Modi has often thanked the community for helping him govern the state of Gujarat.

In 2011, when he was chief minister of Gujarat, he invited the community to celebrate the 100th birthday of their religious head Syedna Burhanuddin. When Syedna passed away in 2014, Modi went to Mumbai to pay his respects and meet the successor Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, who is the current head of the community. PM Modi has always shared cordial relationship with Syedna Saifuddin.

PM Modi has often praised business acumen of the community and their social reforms measures. He has also mentioned how the community helped and hosted Mahatma Gandhi during Dandi March, an iconic event in India's freedom struggle.

The Egyptian capital witnessed a remarkable moment towards stability in West Asia this weekend, as foreign ministers from Arab League member states agreed to reinstate Syria’s membership after its suspension more than 10 years ago.

The decision was made in advance of the Arab League Summit in Saudi Arabia on May 19.

Syria’s Arab League membership was revoked after President Bashar al-Assad ordered a crackdown on protesters in March 2011 at the onset of Arab spring that spiraled the country into a civil war.

In what appeared to be remarkable optics to justify the escalation of ongoing war in Ukraine, two drones were exploded in Moscow this week as they hovered over Russian President Vladimir Putin's Kremlin residence. Russia designated the incident as a "planned terrorist attack" and "assassination attempt on the president of Russia".

Russia said the United States masterminded the attack, and that Ukraine carried it out.

Washington and Kyiv quickly denied the responsibility.

Despite a multiplicity of claims, a conclusive assertion by either Russia or the West, behind the cause of explosion over the Kremlin is yet to be made.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suggested that the goal could be a tripling of newly installed solar, wind power by 2030, echoing a target proposed recently by the International Renewable Energy Agency.

Their multilateral stumble in India's Goa at Council of Foreign Ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, quite obviously, elevated to a bilateral engagement in Islamabad this week.

While Islamabad expected Beijing to address its bilateral anxieties against India -- which it did by echoing Pakistan's line of argument on India's Jammu and Kashmir -- it also got schooled on the importance of political stability.&nbsp;

"We sincerely hope the political forces in Pakistan will build consensus, uphold stability and more effectively address domestic and external challenges so it can focus on growing the economy," Qin said, addressing a press briefing alongside his Pakistani counterpart after the closed-door strategic talks.

The British tabloids declared Operation Golden Orb — the codename for the event -- a grand success with feverish banner headlines screaming 'collector's edition'.&nbsp;

But a few miles from where Charles was crowned as King, thousands gathered to protest his coronation that costed British exchequer about $126 million amid a burgeoning cost of living crisis.&nbsp;

London Metropolitan Police force arrested six organisers from the anti-monarchy group Republic as they prepared to protest along the procession route for the coronation.&nbsp;

The detentions infuriated the scores of other demonstrators who rallied near The Mall as well as in Trafalgar Square.

These first-of-its-kind mummies were&nbsp;discovered down a 15m (50ft) shaft at a burial site south of Cairo, Saqqara, an active burial ground for more than 3,000 years and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site is present at the ancient Egyptian capital Memphis and has over dozen pyramids, including the Step Pyramid.&nbsp;

Three other tombs were also found at the burial site.

There were various statues and items of pottery found inside the discovered tombs at the ancient necropolis. The largest of the mummies is believed to be of a man called Khnumdjedef. Khnumdjedef was a priest, inspector and supervisor of nobles. Another mummy belonged to a man called Meri. Meri was a senior palace official who was given the title of "secret keeper". The title allowed him to perform special religious rituals.

In the other tomb rests a judge and writer named Fetek. Archaeologist Zahi Hawass, Egypt's former antiquities minister, revealed that all the discoveries are dated around 25th to the 22nd centuries BC. Ali Abu Deshish, one of the archaeologists who was involved in the excavation of the tombs said, "This discovery is so important as it connects the kings with the people living around them." &nbsp;

On Wednesday, experts said they had discovered a complete residential city from the Roman era which dates back to the second and third centuries AD. Archaeologists found residential buildings, towers and what they've called "metal workshops." It contains pots, Roman coins and other tools.

A grand parade, in what is called The Pharaohs' Golden Parade, will convey 22 ancient Egyptian royal mummies -- 18 kings and four queens -- in specially designed capsules across the capital Cairo on Saturday to a new museum home where they can be displayed in greater splendour.

The mummies will be relocated to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation -- in chronological order of their reigns - from the 17th Dynasty ruler, Seqenenre Taa II, to Ramses IX, who reigned in the 12th Century BC.

Authorities are shutting down roads along the Nile for the elaborate ceremony, designed to drum up interest in Egypt’s rich collections of antiquities when tourism has almost entirely stalled because of Covid related restrictions.

Each mummy will be placed in a special capsule filled with nitrogen to ensure protection, and the capsules will be carried on carts designed to cradle them and provide stability, Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass said.

Archaeologists discovered the mummies in two batches at the complex of mortuary temples of Deir Al Bahari in Luxor and at the nearby Valley of the Kings from 1871.

The oldest is that of Seqenenre Tao, the last king of the 17th Dynasty, who reigned in the 16th century BC and is thought to have met a violent death.

The parade will also include the mummies of Ramses II, Seti I, and Ahmose-Nefertari.

Fustat was the site of Egypt’s capital under the Umayyad dynasty after the Arab conquest.

At the heart of the city, workers are putting finishing touches to an avenue of ministries that echo the architecture of pharaonic temples and adjoin a raised Islamic complex, two domed parliament buildings and a sprawling presidential compound.&nbsp;

There will be a monorail passing through a business district where a 385-metre central tower is close to completion. Beyond, the contours of a 10km park stretching to a giant mosque are taking shape.&nbsp;

The city, known simply as the New Administrative Capital, is designed to operate with smart technology on virgin land away from the clutter and chaos of Cairo. It will boast universities, leisure facilities and a diplomatic quarter.&nbsp;

But it has made halting progress, and after Emirati funding fell through shortly after it was announced in 2015, the military and government took on the estimated $25 billion cost of the first phase, injecting off-budget investment.&nbsp;

Some foreign loans and financing have been secured.&nbsp;

The coronavirus pandemic also slowed progress, and the first of three planned phases, covering 168 square kilometres, will not be completed when the government begins to move in.&nbsp;

"The rate of completion of the first phase has passed 60% across all projects," said Khaled el-Husseiny, spokesman for the new capital.&nbsp;

He added that the delayed transfer of civil servants would begin in July, ahead of an official opening planned for the end of 2021.&nbsp;
