Buried inside the 45-page New Delhi Declaration is a wager: that climate resilience sells better to a fractious bloc of eleven nations when it's framed as economics rather than environmentalism. That reading came up again and again as analysts picked through the document this week. Speaking about global trade, Xi said, “We should support the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core and reject all forms of protectionism.” China to take over BRICS presidency next year Speaking at Bharat Mandapam, Xi also said that China will take over the BRICS presidency next year. The Chinese president began his two-day visit to New Delhi on Saturday (Sep 12), marking his first trip to India in seven years. He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. This year, India assumed the chairmanship of BRICS, an intergovernmental organisation and geopolitical bloc made up of major emerging market economies. India is one of the founding members of the grouping, which was formalised in 2006, along with Russia, China and Brazil. The group was initially called BRIC, but was later renamed to BRICS after South Africa joined the bloc in 2010. The group now has 11 full member countries and 10 official partner nations.

Xi Jinping said the Middle East war does not serve global interests, urging BRICS nations to oppose sovereignty violations and work towards peace as US-Iran tensions continue.
