<p>In new research, scientists have investigated the reason behind the deformation of cratons and found that it has happened because of a process called decratonisation. The study has been published in Nature Geoscience.</p>

<h2><strong>What is the cause of decratonisation in Earth's mantle?</strong></h2>

<p>Some experts believe that the possible cause of decratonisation is subduction - a process in which a denser mantle is pushed beneath another - and deep mantle plumes - a process in which one of the segments of the mantle rises to the surface because of buoyancy.</p>

<p>However, they have failed to determine the mechanism which is pushing the deformation and destruction of Earth's cratons.</p>

<p>China University of Geosciences Professor Shaofeng Liu investigated the disintegration of the North China Craton (NCC) and the western Pacific Ocean, which has been taking place for&nbsp;more than 200 million years.</p>

<p>However, the NCC is not the only place facing decratonisation, similar conditions were found in the North American craton, South American craton and the Yangtze craton.</p>

Vietnam: Major fire engulfs Hanoi apartment block, over 50 feared dead

<p>More than 100 firefighters battled towering flames and dense smoke from a fire in a seven-storey building that was spreading to adjacent buildings in central Sydney on Thursday (May 25).</p>

<p>"The building is starting to collapse, while the inferno is beginning to spread to several neighbouring buildings, including residential apartments," Fire and Rescue NSW said in a statement, as reported by AFP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per&nbsp;the&nbsp;emergency services, more than 100 firemen with 20 fire trucks were "working to contain and extinguish the blaze" on Randle Street near the city's Central Station. At least one close vehicle has been destroyed by fire, they said.</p>

<p>A witness claimed to have seen pieces of the flaming structure fall onto the sidewalk. Commuters were also impacted by the fire, which shuttered roads and halted light rail services.</p>

<p>“It was essentially a candlestick,” a resident who lives about 100 metres from the blaze told Guardian Australia.</p>

<p>“It was basically apocalyptic, there was ash falling everywhere, the embers were raining down,” he added.</p>

<p>NSW Fire and Rescue’s deputy commissioner for field operations, Jeremy Fewtrell stated at a press conference on Thursday that there was no evidence of any injuries to members of the public and that no one was in the structure at the time of the fire.</p>

<p>One fireman suffered minor burns to his arm and is being treated by NSW EMS personnel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Fewtrell said he'd seen similar-sized flames before, but what made this one stand out was how rapidly it spread and how many additional buildings were nearby.</p>

<p>“The risk of further fire spread is a real concern [and] our firefighters have worked very hard to stop that,” he said.</p>

<p>“There were some fires in there that spread into the apartment buildings, and firefighters were able to extinguish those, preventing them from penetrating further into the buildings and causing significant damage there,” he added.</p>

<h2><strong>Adjacent buildings at risk</strong></h2>

<p>As the building is situated close to residential buildings and backs into a small alley, the apartments, as well as adjoining offices and companies, were evacuated.</p>

<p>At least&nbsp;35 people have been killed after the roof of a stepwell collapsed at a temple in Madhya Pradesh's Indore on Thursday (March 30).&nbsp;The stepwell roof at the Beleshwar Mahadev temple could not carry&nbsp;the weight of a large crowd.</p>

<p>As per initial reports, more than 30 people fell into the stepwell of the Shri Beleshwar Mahadev Jhulelal Temple&nbsp;resulting in a serious accident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Total of 35 people died, one missing and 14 people have been rescued. Two people returned home safely after getting treatment. The search operation to trace persons reported missing is underway," Indore Collector Ilayaraja T said, as quoted by news agency ANI.</p>

<p>"The 18 hours long rescue operation started at around 12:30 on Thursday, and is still ongoing," he added.</p>

<p>The incident happened on the day of Ram Navami, an auspicious day as per the&nbsp;Hindu calendar&nbsp;when worshippers throng the temple, reported Zee News.</p>

<p>The temple is situated in Sneh Nagar, one of Indore's oldest residential neighbourhoods, and is run by a private trust. The tragedy might have been avoided had the Indore Municipal Corporation responded to local complaints, reported NDTV.</p>

"Total of 35 people died, one missing and 14 people have been rescued. Two people returned home safely after getting treatment. The search operation to trace persons reported missing is underway," Indore Collector Ilayaraja T said, as quoted by news agency ANI. "The 18 hours long rescue operation started at around 12:30 on Thursday, and is still ongoing," he added. The incident happened on the day of Ram Navami, an auspicious day as per the Hindu calendar when worshippers throng the temple, reported Zee News. The temple is situated in Sneh Nagar, one of Indore's oldest residential neighbourhoods, and is run by a private trust. The tragedy might have been avoided had the Indore Municipal Corporation responded to local complaints, reported NDTV.
