<p>Reports quoting Madhu Kiran Reddy, one of the survivors, said, "We were all taking shelter under a big rock and two people died in the night right in front of us due to the cold. Two others were dead by morning, while five more died the next day."</p>

<p>The nine trekkers succumbed to hypothermia, a condition where the body loses heat faster than it can produce it and causes dangerously low body temperature&nbsp;below 35°C.</p>

<p>Among the deceased were several notable individuals with diverse interests and contributions to society. The 71-year-old Asha Sudhakar had reportedly participated in numerous high-altitude expeditions and was honoured with the Dasara Award and Kalasha Award for her mountaineering feats. Her husband, S. <p>The avalanche was reportedly about 70m across and carried them about 20m down south, and partially buried them.</p>

<p>After digging themselves out of it, both contacted the police. They attempted rescue twice,&nbsp;but blizzard conditions made it impossible for the cops to reach them via helicopter.</p>

<p>As the conditions were not conducive, both headed back to their camp the night before. But instead of erecting the wet tent, they dug out a snow cave under a huge rock and hunkered down.</p>

<p>Wakatipu Alpine Cliff Rescue team co-ordinator Russ Tilsley said they had plenty of food with about 15 muesli bars, which helped them to brave the chill.</p>

<p>“It was incredibly fortunate the men had been on the edge of the avalanche when it was triggered,” Tilsley was quoted as saying by The Guardian.</p>

<p>“They were lucky they were there and not 50 or 100 metres into the flow, because they probably would have been dead,” he added.</p>

<p>It was also claimed that the company threatened retaliation against employees who complained.</p>

<p>During a virtual hearing on Tuesday, California District Court judge Dale Fischer amended the agreement between Activision Blizzard and the EEOC.</p>

<p>“Our goal is to make Activision Blizzard a model for the industry, and we will continue to focus on eliminating harassment and discrimination from our workplace," said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick in a&nbsp;statement.</p>

<p>"The court's approval of this settlement is an important step in ensuring that our employees have mechanisms for recourse if they experienced any form of harassment or retaliation."</p>

<p>Activision Blizzard was first sued by the DFEH in July last year&nbsp;accusing&nbsp;the video game publisher of having a "frat boy workplace culture", The Washington Post reported.</p>

<p>In September, Activision Blizzard&nbsp;agreed to create an $18 million fund for harassment and discrimination victims, following another lawsuit from the EEOC.</p>

<p>The EEOC, a federal agency, and the DFEH, a state agency, share jurisdiction over workplace sexual harassment cases and both agencies reportedly received anonymous tips in 2018 to investigate Activision Blizzard.</p>
