The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced that CVC Capitals and RPSG Group have emerged as the winners of the bidding for two new teams set to be introduced in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from the 2022 season.

BCCI confirmed that the RPSG Group clinched the ownership rights of the Lucknow franchise with a winning bid of INR 70.09 billion (Rs 7090 crore), and Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital) won the bod for the Ahmedabad franchise for INR 56.25 billion (Rs 5625 crore).

However, CVC Capital's alleged investments in betting companies outside India have put them in a spot of bother. The BCCI is reportedly looking into the company's investments in betting firms and will wait till the board's legal team has dome a complete check. The formalities are expected to be completed after Diwali.

“The formalities haven’t yet been completed, the BCCI legal team is going through it and we are expecting them to revert us post-Diwali,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the&nbsp;Indian Express.

“The BCCI has full rights on whom they will allot the team, it’s the board’s discretion and we can only decide on a new IPL franchise (CVC) when the legal team reverts to us," he added.

BCCI is discouraged to form associations with companies in the betting business. Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi was one of the first to question BCCI's decision to hand the ownership rights of an IPL team to an organisation that has investments in betting companies.

7 home, 7 away! How many matches will IPL 2022 have after addition of Lucknow, Ahmedabad franchises?

The Indian cricket board will be expecting the two new IPL franchises to go for Rs 7000 crore to Rs 10,000 crore each after the bidding process begins here on Monday.

It is still not clear whether the BCCI will announce the successful bidders on Monday itself after doing the technical evaluation of the bids.

There are 22 companies which have picked up tender document worth Rs 10 lakh but with base price for new teams pegged at INR 2000 crore, there is expected to be only five to six serious bidders in fray.

The BCCI is also allowing a consortium of up to three companies/individuals to bid for a franchise.

However, in case of an individual or company, that particular entity's annual turnover should be minimum INR 3000 crore and in case of consortium, each of the three entities should have an annual turnover of INR 2500 crore.

In this scenario, one of India's richest business tycoon Gautam Adani and his Adani Group are expected to bid for the Ahmedabad franchise. Adani Group, if they finally put up a bid, are the favourites to own a new franchise.

"Gautam Adani and Sanjiv Goenka are the biggest names in the Indian industry. They will be serious bidders. Expect a minimum bid of INR 3500 crore from the potential bidders. Don't forget that IPL broadcast rights is projected around USD 5 billion (Rs 36,000 Crore).

"So the economics will work accordingly as franchises get the TV revenue share equally," a BCCI insider tracking the developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

For the record, Goenka owned the Pune Franchise Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for two years and is also the owner of ISL franchise ATK Mohun Bagan.

There has been buzz that Lancer group, which is owned by Manchester United owner Avram Glazer, has also picked up the bid document.

The other notable companies which are in fray comprise Kotak group, pharmaceutical majors Aurobindo Pharma and Torrent group.

The two cities that are favourites in terms of stadium capacity are Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera with more than 100,000 capacity while the other is Ekana Stadium in Lucknow with 70,000 capacity.

“There is a well-known US-based company which did send BCCI feelers some time back, expressing their serious interest in bidding for IPL media rights. With 10 teams playing IPL from 2022, the matches will go up to 74 and in any case, the valuation of the property increases,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.

He also believes the relationship between Oman Cricket and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has grown with each passing day.

In an interaction with ANI, Khimji opened up about his hopes from the T20 World Cup, the national team`s preparations, relations with BCCI, and whether hosting marquee events in associate nations can give a boost to the sport.

"We are totally elated and overwhelmed, I cannot express what it means for Oman to host such a tournament. First of all, even to be considered was a big high for us. Think about it, we are an associate country. Only four-five associate teams have done T20 World Cup two times in a row and we are one of them. Hosting the World Cup is an all-time high, an associate nation playing and hosting is totally what dreams are made of. We are living a dream as they say," Khimji said.

Oman is placed in Group B of the Qualifying Stages for the upcoming ICC Men`s T20 World Cup alongside Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, and Scotland. The top two sides from the group will qualify for the Super 12 Stages.

We needed to make sure that the team did justice to its place. We got Mumbai (Ranji Trophy heavyweights) to come over here and play four ODIs and three T20Is and we had a super series with them. Your IPL tournaments every year is bigger than any tournament anywhere in the world. I am thankful to the ICC, Sourav Ganguly, and Jay Shah for trusting us," said Khimji.

"BCCI has been super-efficient. BCCI has made sure that we have four people here at our beck and call at all times, moderating us and helping us in every aspect of hosting the tournament. Whether I need Sourav Ganguly or Jay Shah`s help, they have been fantastic. Every one of them has been outstanding. We have had no problems whatsoever," he added.

When asked whether Oman Cricket would like to host IPL in the coming future, Khimji said: "Who would even want to think twice before answering this question. If BCCI were to consider Oman or even think of considering Oman as an IPL host, I would be elated. I would not even blink an eyelid if they ask me whether we would host the IPL. Between BCCI and Oman Cricket, the relationship is of mutual respect and trust. We still do not have a contract in place, that`s how good the relations are."

What happens is that it not only gives a fillip to the local structure but it also helps in making sure that we are getting in tune. Local governments will also start supporting the sport. I think it is important that ICC should encourage full members to play games in associate countries."&nbsp;

The BCCI also feels that the incumbent head coach "needs to demonstrate great organizational and tactical strengths and will be responsible for setting out and then executing short, medium and long term plans for the development of the Indian team.

"Central to these will be the ability to manage the playing and coaching resources at their disposal to the greatest effect across the three forms of the game."

For the other support staff, the qualification demands 10 Tests or 25 ODIS or association or experience of working with IPL/A teams for a period of three years.
