<p>The Hwasong-17 ICBM may theoretically reach the United States' continental territory, and with this most recent launch, North Korea is attempting to highlight the sophistication of its arsenal, experts said.</p>

<p>Cheong Seong-chang, a senior scholar at the Sejong Institute, told AFP that Pyongyang appeared to be attempting to prove that it could reach whatever target the government desired with its ICBM through the use of photographs of the Earth.</p>

<p>He predicted that the next phase by North Korea will attempt to launch the missile "at a normal angle," demonstrating that it can survive reentry into the atmosphere.</p>

<p>The launch on Thursday came as Tokyo and Seoul pushed to repair their long-frozen relations to offset an increasingly aggressive North Korea.</p>

The Indian defence ministry has cleared the procurement of around 120 Pralay ballistic missiles for the Indian armed forces, reports said on Sunday (December 25). The ballistic missiles will be deployed by the Indian armed forces along the borders with China and Pakistan. These are surface-to-surface short-range ballistic missiles (SRBM) developed for battlefield use. Currently, the Pralay ballistic missiles can take out targets from 150 to 500 kms. It is extremely difficult for the enemy to intercept through interceptor missiles. Senior defence sources told ANI, "A high-level meeting of the Defence Ministry cleared the acquisition of around 120 missiles for the armed forces and their deployment along the borders." Reports have mentioned that the Pralay ballistic missiles can change their path after covering a certain range in midair. The missiles are powered by a solid propellant rocket motor and other new technologies. The missile guidance system includes state-of-the-art navigation and integrated avionics. India now permits the use of ballistic missiles in tactical roles, therefore the acquisition of these ballistic missiles is considered a significant development for the nation. Pralay ballistic missiles cleared for Indian armed forces; to be deployed along China border

This is latest in the recent flurry of missile launches North Korea has carried out while defying all sanctions.&nbsp;"Our military spotted two short-range ballistic missiles launched by North Korea into the East Sea from the Sunan area of Pyongyang at around 16:32 (0732 GMT) today," South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said, referring to the body of water also known as the Sea of Japan.</p>

<p>This year has been unprecedented with respect to number of weapon&nbsp;tests by North Korea. Just last month, the country carried out its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile test.</p>

<p>The powerful sister of leader Kim Jong Un also insisted earlier this week that the North had developed advanced technologies to take images from space using a spy satellite. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The tests have attracted condemnation and criticism from the USA and South Korea.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two countries held a joint air drill on Tuesday, and deployed a US B-52H strategic bomber in the Korean peninsula, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The long-range heavy bomber was part of an exercise that included the US and South Korea's most advanced jets -- including the F-22 and the F-35 stealth fighters. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Friday's launch came hours after the White House said that Pyongyang had delivered arms to the Russian private military group Wagner.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Disclosing the delivery on Thursday US time, the White House called Wagner a "rival" for power to the defence and other ministries in the Kremlin.&nbsp;</p>
