Russia is working on developing a long-range unmanned strike system, built by Zvezda, media reports have informed on Tuesday.

Alexander Nemov, deputy chief of the research department at the 30th Central Scientific Research Institute outside Moscow said that the large unnamed aircraft would come out next year which will infiltrate far into an enemy's territory.

The system will consist of both guided and unguided munitions, media reports stated. Nemov further said that the work is currently underway and the system will be "capable of carrying out unmanned low-altitude supersonic flights and striking both stationary and mobile targets at operational-strategic depth."

According to Zvezda, the aircraft will not only be capable of performing low-attitude flights but will also fly faster than the speed of sound, thereby providing a massive boost for the Russian military with fundamentally new strategic capabilities, not currently enjoyed by any other military in the world.

The 30th Central Scientific Research Institute's other projects include plans to create a new strike chopper, combining the capabilities of the Kamov Ka-52 and the Mil Mi-28. The new aircraft will have an extra set of wings and will be capable of flying over 400 km per hour

The 19-year-old who committed the horrific shooting at a Florida High School on Wednesday was a "troubled former student who loved guns," the police said.

Nikolas Cruz, 19, was arrested about an hour after a shooting rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel told reporters.

Cruz was carrying a number of ammunition magazines and an AR-15-style rifle, Israel said. “We already began to dissect his websites and the things on social media that he was on and some of the things that came to mind are very, very disturbing," he said.

Reports say that 12 out of the 17 killed have been identified and investigations are on to identify the rest. Five remain in life-threatening condition on Wednesday night. Ten remain in hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

No names have yet been released. Both adults and children were among the dead, Israel confirmed.

Cruz had reportedly been receiving mental health treatment but had not attended the clinic for over a year.

Florida shooting: Suspect was a 'troubled former student who loved guns'

Florida saw one of its deadliest mass shooting on Wednesday when a 19-year-old former student attacked the school, killing 17 children.

Heres a rundown of the last five deadliest attacks in US schools and universities:

1. Umpqua Community College Shooting

On October 1, 2015, a 26-year-old man identified as Christopher Harper-Mercer committed the deadliest mass shooting in Oregon history, killing nine people and injuring seven others at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

He only let one person go just so that he could inform the police about the incident. Mercer had suffered from long-term mental illness and was described as "hate filled" by those who knew him.

Some theories behind the mass shooting were Mercer falling below a C average, putting him at risk for suspension, as well as him not being able to pay the tuition bill due.

He ultimately committed suicide after the attack.

2. Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown

On December 14, 2012, 20-year-old Adam Lanza shot 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Lanza killed his mother, before entering the school where he killed 26 people and injured two others; the majority of his victims were children aging from five to 10 years old.

He committed suicide upon completion of the attack. According to the media and news reports, this was one of the most bizarre shootings because Lanza never offered a motive or reasoning behind the murder of his mother nor the horrendous mass slaying of innocent children.

3. Oikos University Shooting

On April 2, 2012, 43-year-old One L. Goh committed California's deadliest mass killing on at the Korean Christian college Oikos University and killed seven people and wounded at least three more.

He was a former student of the school and opened fire early morning on April 2. Goh had been a nursing student at the college but was not enrolled at the time of the shooting.

Goh apparently targeted a school director he was angry at - but who no longer worked there.

Goh is at Napa State Hospital being treated for paranoid schizophrenia, with his lawyer saying he saw faces in mirrors and experienced delusions regarding "the battle between God and Satan and his role in that battle."

4. Northern Illinois University

On February 14, 2008, Steven Kazmierczak, 27, dressed in black stepped from behind a curtain at the front of a large lecture hall at Northern Illinois University on Thursday and shot 21 people, five of them fatally, then shot and killed himself.

Four died at the scene, including the shooter, and two later died at the hospital. At least 22 people, including a graduate student who was teaching an ocean sciences class, were shot.

The shooter was a graduate student at NIU, he appeared to be a model student, earning a dean’s award in 2006.

He also served as vice president of the Academic Criminal Justice Association, a student group focused on educating the community.

He was treated temporarily for mental illness at the Elk Grove Village Thresholds-Mary Hill House psychiatric center,[33] for being "unruly" at home. Reports said that his behavior seemed to become more erratic in the weeks leading up to the shooting and that it is believed he stopped taking medication beforehand.

5. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

On April 16, 2007, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia came under attack when senior student Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people and injured 17 more in two attacks – one in a co-ed dormitory, the other in the Engineering, Science and Mechanics building.

Cho ultimately committed suicide following the shooting. He is noted as committing the deadliest attack on a school in US history.

Cho was previously diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder; among the tapes he personally mailed to NBC news, Cho expressed his hatred for the wealthy, compared himself to Jesus Christ and explained that he was forced to commit the mass shooting due to voices in his head.

Kabul hotel siege over after close to 12 hours, 3 attackers killed: Government

At least five policemen were killed and 41 others were left injured when a homemade bomb exploded outside a police station on Saturday in the Colombian city of Barranquilla.

The blast comes hours after a high-powered car bomb gutted another police station near the border in neighbouring Ecuador.

The attack was one of the deadliest on security personnel in recent years, in one of Colombia's most important cities.

It comes as the government of President Juan Manuel Santos seeks to bring the armed conflict that has wracked Colombia for 50 years to an end. Much of the violence has been financed by drug trafficking.

As per media reports, head of Barranquilla's police, Mariano Botero, said the attack may have been carried out by associates of a local crime boss known as "Happy," who was arrested recently on charges of drug trafficking, extorting businesses and terrorizing residents with threats of murder in the Caribbean city.

"I do not have the slightest doubt that this is a retaliation" for successful police action against drug traffickers, he told reporters.

Botero also suggested that the attack could be in revenge after a police crackdown on local drug traffickers.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of carrying out the attack, according to attorney general Nestor Martinez.

"We will charge (him) with five aggravated murders ... attempted murder, terrorism and use of explosives," he told a press conference.

A petrol bomb was thrown at the lakeside Yangon compound of Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Thursday while she was away from her home, a government spokesman said.

"It was a petrol bomb," spokesman Zaw Htay confirmed to AFP, without giving further details on a possible motive for a small but rare attack targeting the Myanmar democracy heroine.

The petrol bomb caused minor damage. But the attack on the villa where Suu Kyi was held for long years of house arrest by the former junta is hugely symbolic.

Suu Kyi has increasingly attracted the ire of the international community over her perceived failure to speak up on behalf of Myanmar's Rohingya Muslim community.

Nearly 700,000 Rohingya have fled a brutal military crackdown in northern Rakhine state into refugee camps in Bangladesh since August, bringing with them a testimony of murder, rape and arson.

But inside Myanmar Suu Kyi, who swept elections in 2015, is still widely regarded as a heroine by the majority-Buddhist population, who fondly dub her "The Lady". Many inside Myanmar regard the Rohingya as illegal "Bengali" immigrants.

Suu Kyi was in Naypyidaw at the time of Thursday's incident and is due to address parliament to mark the second anniversary of her NLD government coming to power.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels on Tuesday fired a long-range ballistic missile toward the King Khaled International Airport north of the Saudi capital Riyadh.

The Houthi forces launched a Burkan H-2 ballistic missile in the capital's airport. It's the second ballistic missile attack claimed by Houthi rebels on the Saudi airport in less than three months.

The attack also comes just 10 days following the interception of a Houthi missile fired from Yemen by the Saudi military forces.

The Houthi missile had targeted the civilian areas of the southwestern Saudi province of Najran on January 20.

Continued missile attacks from Houthi rebels in Yemen have forced Saudi Arabia to cut off air, sea and land links from its neighbour. The defence forces have also halted Yemen's financial aids and food and fuel imports as well.

On December 4, former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed in Sanaa after days of intense fighting between Houthi rebels and his loyalist forces. Before killing Saleh, Houthi rebels had reportedly blown up his residence.

Both Saleh forces and the Houthi rebels are battling to capture the capital city. The loyalists of Saleh last week had proposed for the talks with the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis to end the three-year conflict in Yemen.

The military conflict dates back to 2015, when the fight between the government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Houthi rebels, backed by Saleh army units, broke out.

The Saudi-led coalition of mostly Persian Gulf Arab countries has interfered in the conflict since March 2015 upon Hadi’s request, carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis.

More than 200 people have been arrested and dozens of police hurt during clashes in Tunisia, the interior ministry said Wednesday, as anger over austerity measures spilt over into unrest.

The North African country has been hailed for its relatively smooth democratic transition since a 2011 revolt that sparked the Arab Spring uprisings, but seven years after the revolution, tensions over economic grievances are high.

Tunisia has seen rising anger over hikes in value-added tax and social contributions after a tough new budget was applied at the start of the year.

Interior ministry spokesman Khalifa Chibani told local radio that 49 police officers were wounded during the second night of clashes across the country Tuesday to Wednesday and that 206 "troublemakers" were arrested.

Properties were damaged, he said, including a branch of the Carrefour supermarket chain in a suburb of Tunis that was looted.

After a calm day on Wednesday, residents said demonstrators in the evening took to the streets of Tebourba, a town west of the capital Tunis where a man in his 40s died in unrest Monday night.

On a visit to a nearby town, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed condemned acts of "vandalism" that "serve the interests of corrupt networks to weaken the state", pointing the finger at a leftist party that called for protests.

Fresh clashes broke out Wednesday night in the northern town of Siliana, where youths threw stones and molotov cocktails at security forces. Police responded with tear gas, an AFP correspondent said.

There were similar scenes in Kasserine, a town in Tunisia's neglected central region, with protesters burning tires to block roads and some throwing stones at police.

The army has been deployed around banks, post offices and other government buildings in the country's main cities, the defence ministry said.

There have been no figures given for the number of protesters injured in the clashes.

On Tuesday night, hundreds of young people took to the streets of Tebourba for the funeral of the man who died.

Police have insisted they did not kill him. Health Minister Imed Hammami said that results of an autopsy would be made public on Thursday.

Unrest was also reported in the working-class neighbourhoods of Djebel Lahmer and Zahrouni on the outskirts of Tunis, the central cities of Gafsa and Kasserine, and the northern town of Jedaida.

In the central town of Sidi Bouzid, the cradle of the protests that sparked the 2011 uprisings, youths blocked roads and hurled stones, and the police retaliated with tear gas, an AFP reporter said.

A representative of Tunisia's Jewish community said two Molotov cocktails were thrown at the entrance to two Talmudic schools on the Mediterranean island of Djerba, but their interiors were not damaged.

The recent unrest started with peaceful protests against the austerity measures last week but escalated into clashes with police in the night of Monday to Tuesday.

Activists have called for a massive demonstration on Friday against the austerity measures, which are expected to increase the cost of living.

They have demanded a revision of the legislation behind the VAT and social contribution hikes, as well as better welfare for struggling families.

"There are acts of looting and robbery but also a political message from a section of the population that has nothing to lose and feels ignored" seven years after a revolution demanding work and dignity, said political scientist Selim Kharrat.

He said that many public buildings have been targeted while the government has "taken a pretty strong stance against the protesters".

Tunisia's economy has struggled since the 2011 revolution, which was fuelled by unemployment and graft.

Protests are common in the North African state in the month of January, when Tunisians mark the anniversary of the revolt that unseated dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.

January 2016 saw the biggest wave of public discontent since the uprising as the death of an unemployed protester in Kasserine sparked days of unrest.

In December, unemployed protesters and activists marched through the streets of Sidi Bouzid, angry over the lack of jobs and opportunities that continue to plague residents.

In a report released Thursday, conflict analysts International Crisis Group (ICG) warned the country's political class against succumbing to "authoritarian temptation".

While politicians had so far resisted the urge to backtrack on reforms, ICG said: "in the context of an economic slump, the nostalgia for a strong state, like the one that the former regime claimed to defend, is spreading".

Reportedly, different kind of weapons were recovered from the suspects. Yesterday, all the terrorists were neutralized by the security forces after launching an operation.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to reports, a police official said that the attackers' first target was the security guard of the premises, following which they made their way inside towards the students' hostel.

"They could have wreaked havoc but the police and army successfully neutralised the threat," he added. University Road, the major artery of the city, was closed down for traffic after the attack.

The injured were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), located next to the directorate.

Egypt mourned on Saturday as the death toll from a gun and bomb assault at a mosque rose to 305, including children, in the deadliest attack the country has witnessed.

The state prosecution said up to 30 militants in camouflage flying the Islamic State (IS) group's black banner had surrounded the mosque in North Sinai and proceeded to massacre the worshippers during weekly Friday prayers.

Twenty-seven children were among the dead, it said.

IS, which is conducting a deadly insurgency in the Sinai, has not claimed responsibility for the attack, but it is the main suspect as the mosque is associated with followers of the mystical Sufi branch of Sunni Islam whom it has branded heretics.

Egypt mourns 305 victims of Sinai mosque attack

Gunmen who attacked a mosque on Friday in Egypt's North Sinai brandished an Islamic State flag as they opened fire through doorways and windows, killing more than 300 worshippers, including two dozen children, officials said on Saturday.

No group has claimed responsibility, but Egyptian forces are battling a stubborn Islamic State affiliate in the region, one of the surviving branches of the militant group after it suffered defeats by US-backed forces in Iraq and Syria.

The assault on a mosque has stunned Egyptians, prompting President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's government to tighten security at places of worship and key buildings, and call three days of mourning for the bloodiest attack in Egypt's modern history.

State news agency MENA said the death toll had risen to 305, including 27 children, and 128 people were injured.

Egypt`s public prosecutor's office, citing interviews with wounded survivors as part of its investigation, linked Islamic State militants, also known as Daesh, to the attack on the Al Rawdah mosque in Bir al-Abed, west of El-Arish city.

"The worshippers were taken by surprise by these elements," the prosecutor said in a statement. "They numbered between 25 and 30, carrying the Daesh flag and took up positions in front of the mosque door and its 12 windows with automatic rifles."

The gunmen, some wearing masks and military-style uniforms, had arrived in jeeps, surrounded the mosque and opened fire inside, sending panicked worshippers scrambling over each other to escape the carnage.

Witnesses had said gunmen set off a bomb at the end of Friday prayers and then opened fire as people tried to flee, shooting at ambulances and setting fire to cars to block roads. Images on state media showed bloodied victims and bodies covered in blankets inside the mosque.

"When the shooting began everyone was running, and everyone was bumping into one another," Magdy Rezk, a wounded survivor, said from his hospital bed. "But I was able to make out masked men wearing military clothing."

Utmost Force

Striking a mosque would be a shift in tactics for the Sinai militants, who have previously attacked troops and police and more recently tried to spread their insurgency to the mainland by hitting Christian churches and pilgrims.

Local sources said some of the worshippers were Sufis, whom groups such as Islamic State consider targets because they revere saints and shrines, which for Islamists is tantamount to idolatry. Islamic State has targeted Sufi and Shi`ite Muslims in other countries like Iraq.

The jihadists in Egypt's Sinai have also attacked local tribes and their militias for working with the army and police.

Sisi, a former armed forces commander who supporters see as a bulwark against Islamist militants, promised the "utmost force" against those responsible for Friday`s attack. Security has been a key reason for his supporters to back him, and he is expected to run for re-election next year.

Egypt's military carried out air strikes and raids overnight to target hideouts and vehicles involved in the attack, the army said, without giving details on the number of militants.

"What is happening is an attempt to stop us from our efforts in the fight against terrorism," Sisi said on Friday.

The Sinai attack came as Sisi's government looks to draw more foreign investment and finish an IMF reform programme to help revive an economy that struggled through instability after the 2011 uprising ousted long-standing leader Hosni Mubarak.

North Sinai, a mostly desert area stretching from the Suez Canal eastwards to the Gaza Strip and Israel, has long been a security headache for Egypt and is a strategic region for Cairo because of its sensitive borders.

Local militant group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, once allied to al Qaeda, split from it and declared allegiance to Islamic State in 2014. But attacks in the Sinai worsened after 2013 when Sisi led the overthrow of President Mohamed Mursi of the Muslim Brotherhood after mass protests against his rule.

Government forces killed 45 insurgents and wounded 35 and none of the police checkpoints was captured in the overnight attacks, officials said. “Our forces resisted until they received reinforcements and air support,” said Zia Durrani, spokesman for Kandahar’s police chief. “The Taliban were defeated.” The Taliban told reporters by WhatsApp that they killed 43 police and members of a militia and destroyed 13 armoured vehicles. The insurgents often exaggerate battlefield casualties. The Taliban, fighting to restore Islamic rule after their 2001 ouster by U.S.-led troops, also attacked Bala Boluk, in the western province of Farah, on Tuesday, killing eight soldiers and wounding three, according to the provincial government. The government’s control or influence over the country has fallen to just under 60 percent, down six percentage points from last year, according to the United States’ Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.

Four people were killed and over 20 wounded when grenades were thrown into a concert in the capital of the chronically unstable Central African Republic, while revenge attacks later left another three people dead, the UN peacekeeping force and a local official said Sunday.

In the first serious incident of violence in Bangui this year, the assault late Saturday saw two unidentified attackers hurl grenades at a cafe called "On the Crossroads of Peace" during a performance, said Herve Verhoosel, spokesman for the UN peacekeeping force MINUSCA.

CAR's minister for public security, Henri Wanzet, told state radio that four people had died in the attack and around 20 were injured. An official probe has been opened, Wanzet said.

The cafe is located near the PK5 majority Muslim district of Bangui, once a Muslim rebel bastion, and now home to several armed groups.

Even though relative peace has been restored in Central Africa following the civil war that erupted in 2013, inter-communal tensions remain.

Among those injured in Saturday's attack were several musicians from the group that was performing, Verhoosel said.

A doctor at the hospital where the injured were rushed for treatment said 21 people had been admitted.

Seven others were taken to another health centre, a local official with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) medical charity said.

A local public figure said three people were killed later in the night in revenge attacks - two of whom had their throats cut and one who was beaten to death.

"They were two motorcycle-taxi drivers and a young man who was walking in the neighbourhood," the man, who asked not to be identified, he said. "They are innocents".

He appealed for calm in the neighbourhood where sporadic gunfire could be heard and armed members of "self-defence" groups patrolled. An armoured car carrying MINUSCA troops was stationed at the entrance to PK5.

An AFP correspondent saw three bodies taken to the morgue from a local mosque.

A witness who did not give his name said the attackers at the cafe had launched four grenades.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, the concert's singer Ozaguin - dubbed the king of Central African rumba - confirmed six of his fellow musicians had been injured.

He said he was surprised that he was not himself injured by grenade fragments.

"Ozaguin came to perform here to ensure that all Central Africans - Muslims and Christians - can find some social cohesion," the cafe's owner, Issiakou Guymba, told AFP.

"An unidentified group came on a motorcycle-taxi, they threw one or some grenades in the middle of the crowd," he said.

"It makes us lose hope when people come to cause panic like that among the population."

Mired in poverty but rich in diamonds and other minerals, CAR has been battered by a conflict between rival militias that began after then-president Francois Bozize was overthrown in 2013.

Under a UN mandate, the former colonial power France intervened to push out the Muslim Seleka rebels who had taken over, and the UN launched a peacekeeping mission in 2014.

But the country remains chronically prone to violence, with armed groups controlling most of the country.

Fighting between armed groups around the town of Batangafo in northern CAR left at least two dead and 10 wounded at the end of last month.

Former president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai has accused the United States of colluding with ISIS in his country.

"In my view under the full presence, surveillance, military, political, intelligence, Daesh (Arabic name of the IS) has emerged," Karzai said in an interview to Al Jazeera.

Karzai said that the US allowed Daeshto flourish inside Afghanistan.

"The Trump administration made IS as an excuse to drop a massive bomb in Afghanistan on April 2017", he said.

"And the next day, Daesh takes the next district in Afghanistan. That proves to us that there is a hand in it and that hand can be no one else but them in Afghanistan," the former Afghan leader added.

The US military had dropped a GBU-43, most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the Achin district of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province in April.

The explosive, also known as the 'mother of all bombs'm(MOAB), was designed to minimise the risk to Afghan and US forces conducting clearing operations in the area, the report said.

Meanwhile, in the interview, Karzai also said that he welcomed a recent call by the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to investigate war crimes in Afghanistan, including those committed during his tenure in office.

A speech by Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga responding to President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory in last week's presidential poll was delayed when his supporters attacked two local journalists inside party headquarters on Tuesday.

Journalists walked out in mess after veteran political journalist Francis Gachuri and 25-year-old television journalist Jane Gatwiri were assaulted while waiting for Odinga to speak.

'We heard in Swahili, 'Citizen (TV) must leave,' she said. 'When I was trying to record, I got a very hot slap on my face – my right cheek. Someone said I should move, pushed me, my camera was about to be broken.'

Some of Odinga's supporters have accused Citizen of bias towards Kenyatta after the channel ran a tally of last week's vote.

Odinga, who has lost his fourth election, was expected to give his first reaction to Kenyatta's Monday night victory, but delayed a speech planned for Tuesday morning by several hours.

Odinga boycotted the poll, saying it would not be fair. Kenyatta's won by a margin of 98 percent, provoking anger in some pro-Odinga strongholds, whose residents burnt tyre barricades and threw rocks at police.

His spokesman later issued an apology for the attack on the journalists, which happened in the Wiper Party headquarters, a party in his coalition.

'The Coalition registers unreserved apology to reporters who fell victim to this unfortunate incident," the statement said. "The youth acted on their own and we condemn their actions in strongest terms possible.'

There were no reports of protests elsewhere as supporters waited for Odinga's speech.

'We are just waiting for Baba to speak,' said Desmond Litava, an Odinga supporter in Kawangware, a restive slum in the capital, Nairobi, using a term of respect for the leader.

Odinga could call for his supporters to take to the streets, unleashing chaos in cities such as Nairobi and Kisumu to the detriment of the already struggling economy.

After a disputed election in 2007, around 1,200 people were killed when political protests sparked ethnic clashes, leading to a prolonged slump in the region's richest and most important economy.

On the other hand, Odinga could limit his appeal to the courts, as he did in 2013, and yield to diplomatic pressure to engage in post-election 'national dialogue' with Kenyatta.

But in his acceptance speech, Kenyatta ruled out the possibility of dialogue with Odinga if the opposition lodged any legal cases contesting his victory.

That August 8, vote was annulled by the Supreme Court on the basis of procedural irregularities in the vote-tallying. Odinga said the re-run was also flawed because of a failure to replace key officials of the election commission.

Fourteen people have died in political violence nationwide since Thursday's vote, according to diplomatic sources. A provisional government tally said nine people had been killed.
