More than 100 people were killed in a military airstrike by Myanmar's Junta on the 11th of April. This is the deadliest attack on civilians by Myanmar's armed forces. Since the military Junta overthrew the democratically elected government in February 2021. Human rights activists see these systematic attacks as part of a pattern to silence the opposition. Schools, health clinics, even entire villages have been bombed to smithereens to quell the resistance. With strict media censorship, it is difficult to ascertain the scale of violence that is unfolding in the country.

In a statement, Pakistan’s army claimed that attackers from Iran killed four of their border patrol soldiers, on Saturday (April 1), reported Reuters. The incident took place in the Balochistan province’s Kech district where Pakistan shares a long lawless border with Afghanistan and Iran.

“A group of terrorists operating from Iranian side attacked a routine border patrol of Pakistani security forces operating along Pakistan-Iran Border,” said a statement by Pakistan’s army, as per Reuters. It added that the authorities in Islamabad are contacting Tehran in a bid to prevent such incidents in the future. So far, no group or organisation have claimed responsibility for the attack.

This comes as the Rebel Baluch nationalist groups in the area have said that they are fighting for a greater share of regional sources, reported Reuters. Notably, these groups operate on both sides of the border. Pakistan and Iran share more than 900 km of border and there have been incidents concerning security in the past.

Earlier this year, at least 13 people were wounded after a bomb blast derailed a passenger train in the southwestern Pakistani province. According to reports, the explosion derailed eight cars, including the engine of the train which was travelling en route to Peshawar. The province is also home to the deep-water Gwadar port which is being developed as a part of China’s $65 billion “Belt and Road” investment in Pakistan.

White House calls latest barrage of Russian missile on Ukraine 'brutal, unjustified'

Israeli forces raided a refugee camp in the west bank city of Jenin on Tuesday, killing at least six Palestinian gunmen. Those killed included a Hamas gunman, suspected of fatally shooting two Israelis near the village of Huwara. Witnesses said fighting broke out after residents saw Israeli soldiers getting out of a furniture truck near a house on a hill overlooking the centre of the sprawling camp. The fighters immediately opened fire. In the ensuing gun battle, Israeli forces surrounded a house where the suspected gunman had barricaded himself with other fighters. A statement from the Israeli military said the soldiers used shoulder-fired missiles against the building. The Hamas gunman's sons were arrested in a raid at the same time on the city of Nablus. The violence has caused increasing fears of a repeat of the intifadas, or uprisings of the 1980s and early 2000s.
