Another member of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cabin crew, has reportedly gone missing while on duty, Pakistan-based DAWN newspaper reported.&nbsp;

The air hostess was identified as Maryam Raza, who landed in Canada's Toronto on PIA flight PK-782 from Islamabad on Monday. However, the reports said that she failed to report for duty on the return flight, PK-784 to Karachi.&nbsp;

She went missing but after a search, a note saying, "Thank you, PIA", was found in a Toronto hotel room. The authorities also found her uniform when they scanned her room.&nbsp;

As per the report, she joined Pakistan's national flag carrier 15 years ago. She was given the duty of flight from Islamabad to Toronto.&nbsp;

Notably, this is not the first case as&nbsp;a similar incident&nbsp;has happened earlier this year. Around a month before, another PIA flight attendant Faiza Mukhtar also disappeared in Canada.&nbsp;

Local reports said that she landed in Canada and was supposed to fly back to Karachi, but she went MIA (missing in action). PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan had said that a day after landing in Canada "did not board the flight and disappeared".&nbsp;

A passenger on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Mumbai secretly clicked objectionable photographs of an air hostess, according to Indian media reports. A video circulating on social media showed the passenger attempting to click objectionable photographs of the air hostess, and also a co-passenger while they were on Spicejet flight No 157 on August 16.

Taking cognizance of the matter, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) said it has issued notices to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi Airport and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

"In a flight from Delhi to Mumbai, a passenger secretly took videos and objectionable photos of the flight attendant and other women. A video about this is going viral on Instagram. This is a very serious matter, taking cognizance they are issuing notices to the police and DGCA." DCW chief Swati Maliwal tweeted and shared copies of the notices issued.

It has been stated that when his mobile phone was checked, objectionable pictures of the women onboard the plane were found in his mobile," the notice read.

The DCW also requested a copy of the FIR filed in the case, information about the apprehended suspects, and a thorough action-taken report in the notice it has sent to the Delhi Police.&nbsp;

The DCP, Delhi Airport and the DGCA have been asked to provide information to the commission latest by August 23.

N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons—who control the entire Tata conglomerate—called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi earlier in the day ahead of the official handover.

However, even before the new and revamped airline takes off, the company seems to have already taken various measures to make the airline competitive again.

Part of this makeover includes making the cabin crew “well-groomed” and presentable to the passengers. And one way to make sure that the staff look good is to check their weight.

According to reports, Air India is planning to check the body mass index (BMI) of its cabin crew, as well as their overall grooming and appearance.

The order dated January 20, 2022, states that “grooming associates” have been assigned to record the BMI of cabin crew when they report for flight

“These observations must be compiled and sent to my office,” Vasudha Chandana, Executive Director —In-flight Services, Air India, said in the order to all cabin crew members.

Each cabin crew shall be observed or assessed once on a quarterly basis, she noted.

But the order drew flak from the worker unions who deemed the missive as “dehumanising”.

The carrier's two unions —Air India Employees' Union (AIEU) and All India Cabin Crew Association (AICCA) —on Monday wrote a letter to Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Vikram Dev Dutt opposing the order on the grounds that it is dehumanising and in violation of rules prescribed by aviation regulator DGCA.

The AICCA has also threatened to seek legal recourse if the said requirement on BMI/weight checks by grooming associates is not withdrawn.

Among the other measures taken by the Tata management includes flight announcements addressing passengers as ‘Guests’, and a recorded message of Ratan Tata to be played in each and every flight.

The Tata group already has announced an ‘enhanced meal service’ in Air India’s four flights, namely AI864 Mumbai-Delhi, AI687 Mumbai-Delhi, AI945 Mumbai-Abu Dhabi and AI639 Mumbai-Bengaluru from January 27 only. This will be expanded in other flights and routes in a phased manner.

In October last year, Tata Group announced the winning bidder for Air India with a bid amount of Rs 18,000 crore. Tatas would pay Rs 2,700 crore cash and takeover Rs 15,300 crore of the airline's debt.

Tata takes over Air India. What does it mean for air hostesses?

With an aim to provide flight-like hospitality to passengers onboard, Indian Railways has implemented a pilot project where it would deploy air hostesses and flight stewards in India's supreme train, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/business-economy/vande-bharat-expresss-delhi-varanasi-ac-chair-car-ticket-to-cost-rs-1850-executive-class-rs-3520-196698">Vande Bharat Express</a>.

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has been given the responsibility to supervise the trail project. The service has already been started in Vande Bharat Express.

In a big step aimed at enhancing passengers' convenience, the IRCTC has brought 34 trained air hostesses and flight steward on Vande Bharat Express for the duration of six months for a trail service. If turned out to be successful, such a service is likely to be implemented in other trains as well.

Speaking to ANI, IRCTC spokesperson Siddhartha Singh said, "The IRCTC is working hard to provide supreme services to passengers".

Singh explained that usually, a licensee caterer pays Rs 8,000-10,000 per month to the person who serves food on board to passengers.&nbsp;

However, to provide the best service, the IRCTC is paying Rs 25,000 per month to these air hostesses and flight stewards for better services.

In February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had flagged off the train's maiden run from New Delhi to Varanasi.

The train is designed and developed by a Chennai-based Railways Production unit, Integral Coach Factory in just 18 months which also includes the in-house design and manufacture, computer modelling and working etc.

Adding up the green footprints, this fully 'Make in India' train has regenerative braking system in the coaches which can save up to 30 per cent of electrical energy.

Flight-like hospitality by air hostesses in Vande Bharat Express

A 53-year-old female flight attendant fell off a stationary Air India plane while closing its door at the Mumbai airport Monday, suffering serious injuries, airline and hospital authorities said.

The wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft was preparing to depart for New Delhi when Harsha Lobo fell on the tarmac from a height of 20 feet, apparently through a gap between the rear door and the step ladder, a senior Air India official said.

The incident occurred at around 6 am, the official said. 
Lobo suffered multiple fractures in her legs and was rushed to the Nanavati Hospital where she is being treated, the airline said.

Owing to the incident, the flight AI-864, scheduled to take off at 7 am, got delayed by about one-and-a-half hours.

"In an unfortunate incident, one of our cabin crew (member), Harsha Lobo, fell down on the tarmac from the Boeing-777 aircraft door while closing it," the airline said in a statement.

The statement said Air India is inquiring into the incident.

"Though full investigation will establish the reasons for the incident, prima facie it seems there was a gap between the aircraft gate and the step ladder, through which she slipped off 20 feet down on the tarmac," an official of the airline said.

The airline's safety department has called all the people related to the incident on Tuesday as part of its probe, the official added.

The Nanavati Hospital said a cabin crew member of the Air India flight was brought to the hospital at 7 am after she suffered "serious injuries".

"The patient is suffering from right leg compound fracture, fracture in both heels and soft tissue injury in chest, abdomen and lower spine. She also suffered a sprain in the neck (cervical spine)," it said in a statement.

Air India generally operates flights on its domestic routes with smaller planes such as A320s but deploys bigger planes to key destinations such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, among others to meet the increased passenger demand during festival periods such as Dussehra, Diwali and Holi.

Besides B777, it will also operate its 423-seater, double-decker Boeing 747 aircraft to Mumbai and Kolkata from New Delhi, starting Tuesday as part of this strategy.&nbsp;

The incident occurred at around 6 am, the official said. Lobo suffered multiple fractures in her legs and was rushed to the Nanavati Hospital where she is being treated, the airline said. Owing to the incident, the flight AI-864, scheduled to take off at 7 am, got delayed by about one-and-a-half hours. "In an unfortunate incident, one of our cabin crew (member), Harsha Lobo, fell down on the tarmac from the Boeing-777 aircraft door while closing it," the airline said in a statement. The statement said Air India is inquiring into the incident. "Though full investigation will establish the reasons for the incident, prima facie it seems there was a gap between the aircraft gate and the step ladder, through which she slipped off 20 feet down on the tarmac," an official of the airline said. The airline's safety department has called all the people related to the incident on Tuesday as part of its probe, the official added. The Nanavati Hospital said a cabin crew member of the Air India flight was brought to the hospital at 7 am after she suffered "serious injuries". "The patient is suffering from right leg compound fracture, fracture in both heels and soft tissue injury in chest, abdomen and lower spine. She also suffered a sprain in the neck (cervical spine)," it said in a statement.
