<p>&nbsp;</p><h2><strong>Fake report alleges mechanical error</strong></h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The fake report claimed that the captain’s seat suddenly slid backwards during takeoff, which caused the thrust levers to be pulled into idle, reducing the engine power. The First Officer was unable to counter the mechanical force to advance the throttles.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>“According to the AAIB, the captain's seat suddenly slid backward during rotation, a moment when the aircraft was lifting off the runway. This rearward movement was due to the failure of the AFT locking mechanism of the seat track. As the captain's body was thrust rearward, his weight inadvertently pulled the thrust levers into idle, drastically reducing engine power during a critical phase of flight. The First Officer attempted to advance the throttles but was unable to counter the mechanical force and body weight obstructing the levers,” The fake report said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The AAIB has not issued any such report. In addition, no crash involving an Air India flight has occurred as described in the fake report.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2><strong>AAIB investigation</strong></h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The investigation into the Ahmedabad plane crash is still underway. The AAIB was given 30 days to submit its preliminary findings to the International Civil Aviation Organisation. However, the public release of the report is not mandatory. On July 8, the AAIB submitted a preliminary report to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The report filed is based on the initial findings of the probe. The five-page report shares early insights into the sequence of events leading up to the crash, but it does not identify the cause of the accident. The details of the report have not been made public yet.</p>

<p>The plane, en route to London, had taken off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1.38 pm IST.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The plane was boarded by 242 people, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals.</p><p><br>In a post on X.com, Air India confirmed the crash. “The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals,” it said.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>“The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals. We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information,” it added.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the pilot, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, issued a "Mayday" call to Air Traffic Control shortly before the plane lost contact. A mayday call is an internationally recognised distress signal used in radio communication. It indicates an imminent danger.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Minister of Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu, and took stock of the situation. In a post on X, he said that the incident is ‘heartbreaking beyond words.’ He added that he has been in touch with Ministers and authorities who are working to assist those affected.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Air India changed its profile picture on its social media handles to black as a sign of mourning.
